For wizzies that have moved out and wageslaving, is the independence meme worth it? I'm currently wageslaving, but tired of living with my parents even though they're quite nice and understanding. I want to be able to do what I want in my own space, cook the food I want, not have to share bathrooms, etc. I can pull it off financially, but I'm not sure if I'll regret it and end up saddled with a bunch of responsibilities.

I work as a security guard and I make around $1,000 a month working Saturdays and Sundays.
I'm currently renting a room for $420, which lets me save around $500 a month. I don't pay for food or soda because I go dumpster diving at a family owned vending company that tosses away candy, food and soda.

I've been working part time for 1 and a half years and starting january I'll be upgraded to full time. The money will be better but I don't know how I'll be able to do it, working 8 hours a day seems unbearable. I worked about 20 to 25 hours a week until now and it felt like the most I could do. But at least I still have a job and don't have to go crawling back to my narcissistic parents and being their maid and emotional punching bag again. That would be the worse torture.

I hate my fucking job. It's a call center/tech support job. Hate the client, hate my coworkers and hate the job. There are too many things to remember, you can't study or practice at home, I've messed up so much that now my coworkers are not even answering my questions. Today I didn't even go. I am losing it. I've got a doctor's appointment tomorrow, my body is craving the meds. I need to get them, I've tried to self-medicate with Tylenol and some over the counter pills to no effect.
Back to work again tonight. Boxing Day night is always the worst night to work, because I'm alone and doing the work of two or three people.

My former coworkers are mad at me for not giving a flying fuck about them after my contract expired, although it was very clear that i didn't enjoyed their company that much, you would rarely see me on breaks with them and so on. This doesn't really hold any water. Tools and equipment that you need to be present to operate are considered property, not fundamental components of the Self. You can sell organs and the value of your labour can be transferred from you, so these things are not inalienable from the Self.

Worked 11.5 hours on new years eve from 16h to 03h30 and got paid no extra from boss and he laid me off for asking for my surplus hour pay. And he also refused to let me get the tips I got (waiter job)and threw me out… I really want to kill him or hurt him in someway. But I will probably do nothing. What kills me about working is that we only get 30 days of vacations a year. Thats basically 2 weeks of not working each semester. My job is alright but the company is overstaffed and they aren't getting enough contracts. Last year I did nothing at work about 50% of the time. I'm just browsing the web or playing games on my shitty old phone most of the time. The workplace feels like such a fucking joke at this point. I'm waking up early in the morning and going to work 8 hours a day just to do fuck all. I'm thinking of just moving into a van and work seasonally instead.

Some old distant relative of mine is paying me to paint a couple rooms for her. I can't believe how bad my legs ache from using them all day. I've been a comfy neet in bed for a long time now, going back to being one of the ambulatory people is tiring. It's actually not that bad though because I know there is a set endpoint. I knew I had to wage slave and at the same time I knew it would destroy my soul. I looked at a few temp agencies before this call came but I just couldn't make myself apply. I was basically just shutting down with no plan except to go into debt.

Is anyone else here paranoid about getting fired? I got an office position by pure luck (there wasn't even an interview) and if I get fired I'll have to work in retail or something. My mental capacities barely allow for average performance. And if I don't do better than others I'm the first one to go out because of my social retardation and speech disabilities and other aspects that norms pay attention to like looks, height, etc. It's also hard to tell how I'm doing since I'm relatively new, so I'm working my ass off all the time in hopes that it's enough.

I'm so conflicted. On one hand the work was tolerable because I was saving a lot of money and working towards buying myself as much non work time as I could. With this change the growth of my savings grinds to a near halt, but in return I get significantly less work.
If I did shit with my time off this would be more of a blessing but I just consume media the same way I do when working, in fact I'm more efficient cramming in media in the mornings and nights of work days than I am on my days off.
Overall it's between immediate relief and future relief. It's not like I was making an absolute killing working myself to the bone anyway so I guess the immediate relief is better. I don't have a choice in the matter at all so it's pointless to even think about.
My fear with all of this is that I'll be pushed to wards job searching again. That was my only relief when I first got the job, followed by having money of course.

Had to talk to my cousin yesterday and he told me how he went to work, worked 12 hours then took extra work home and stayed until 4 am doing it (to wake up 3 hours later and go back to work) he was really proud of this. I told him that working from home was to escape commute time not to work more like a retard and he got defensive over it.

Answered the door to a TV license man earlier. It was raining heavily and very cold, and he was almost immediately apologetic when he asked if he could come inside and check I didn't have a television because I don't have a license for one. Dear wizzies, my parents have recently given me an ultimatum about me finding a job, either I wageslave or get kicked out of the house. I have never worked a day in my life, nor did I do any activities aside from video games and sitting in my room and staring at the wall. I do have a bachelor's degree in science in a filed that is somewhat in demand, but that's all I have to show for the past 28 years of my existence. Every little thing takes so much fucking effort it is unbearable. I finally have 2 days off from wageslaving in a row and I just can't bring myself to even attempt to enjoy it. I just fucking sit here doing nothing but breathing eating and shitting. This post alone has taken me 40 odd minutes to work up the energy to write.
For the last few months I feel like 90% of my free time has just been watching shitty 1-3 minute YouTube videos. I don't enjoy them, they just take so little effort to gorge myself on that it's all I fucking do. I can't even bring myself to watch anything "worth while" like a TV series or movie or something.

Working in industry is hell. I never cared about products or customers, so having to put on a facade every day is exhausting. I'm sure many wizards will agree that the corporate hierarchy is oppressive and arbitrary, the constant demands of customers give you no peace of mind, and the profit-driven mentality is the death of the soul.
I wish there was a comfy scholar job where you could work in an archive or library all day, doing research, writing papers, with nothing to interrupt your concentration, and not have to interact with people. It seems like the life of a perpetual student is ideal for a wizard, but it seems that such jobs have been automated over the last century in the pursuit of efficiency. Academia has been turned into a sweatshop with brutal competition and "publish or perish" culture, so I don't think that's a solution.
If something like this ideal job still existed, I wouldn't even mind getting paid subsistence wages, enough to afford a studio apartment and basic necessities. The tranquility alone would be worth it.

My mom realized that she's put up with an insultingly mediocre job with a long commute for 18 years only to see inflation outpace her meager raises and her medical to be slashed to the point where she can't even use it. Instead of using her social network to get a better job first she's pressuring me to work more hours while my sister doesn't even pay bills because she's buried in debt. I'm 36 and I'm just a shelf-stocker at local supermarket in a bum fuck nowhere town. I have no ambitions or goals for anything more, I have no other transferable skills or qualifications (basically unhireable). It's mind numbing shit, with bitter middle age divorcees who mostly hate men and treat me with utter contempt or utter indifference.

I've decided that I am not paying taxes anymore. I am working for no one but myself. No employers, only freelance. And if they try to make me I would rather go to jail. I would rather be killed.
Having nothing to do at work is so shitty. I mean in certain settings it's probably alright, if say you're a security guard and just watch a surveillance camera all day, and you can just bring a laptop with you and watch movies and stuff (and you would even be expected to do something like that in such a job). But when I have nothing to do, I just sit on my shitty old phone and browse through newspapers for 8 hours. I'm in a cold workshop with concrete walls and floor. It's an open space, there's almost nowhere for me to hide. I show up there every day and barely get any tasks to do at all, it's so utterly pathetic. The company doesen't get enough contracts, and the workplace is overstaffed. And no one of my co-workers seem to mind just showing up there every morning to do fuck-all for 8 hours. And they look weirdly at me for sitting in a corner on the phone and not being entushiastic about having nothing to do. The crazy thing is, I don't see how this is sustainable at all. The company is paying a full wage to all of these people that do nothing all day. The workplace was busier when I started 1.5 years ago, so I suppose they are living off previous earnings. But right now I just hope this company goes bankrupt, because this is incredibly annoying and pathetic. I cannot fathom how a workplace can be this pathetic. I wonder if this is even normal, since I haven't worked anywhere else.

I'm getting a new job offer because a position opened up in the same facility I work in and the project I am working on is likely to be defunded.

There are plenty of creative hobbies that can be pursued with little to no disposable income. Especially nowadays since technology is dirt cheap in general. I'd say that one's personal interests are the most limiting factor here.

My manager at work invited everyone in my department out to eat because we worked late whenever the whole plant went to some Christmas party or whatever. Naturally I had no desire to go and they kept asking me and I kept saying "No thank you, I appreciate the invite though". And eventually they all went to this free meal or whatever. But now I feel like my whole department thinks I'm weird or don't want to talk to me now. I think somebody even started some kind of rumor that I'm gay because I'm 37 and unmarried/no gf. I had my department lead say he was going to "have me model clothes for a gay club downtown". I don't know if he was joking around or what it's about (he's black, maybe it's their humor). I just feel like a black sheep at work and was able to coast by just keeping to myself but now it's like I'm under everyone's microscope.

Yeah, not relatable for me, only thing I enjoy is drugs, and if you don't have a decent situation going you have to turn to crime, so I'm preemptively killing myself not to end up in jail, I can't imagine comkng home exhausted at 6 pm barely able to stay awake having to find a shitty movie that you don't even enjoy to watch just to fall asleep in the middle of it, just to do it all over again the next day, rather be dead.

I kind of feel like back when I was NEET I ultimately had higher self esteem because with avoiding society came the ability to make up my own sense of worth or avoid it completely. But when you're forced to work you see yourself reflected more through other people and you realize how much of a loser or weirdo you are and there's no escape from it and you have to face it daily. The only thing that bothered about being a NEET was the constant feeling of dread of what I was going to do about the future, but other than that it was great.
