Don't expect any pro neet or hiki thing from media remember they are commercial products so even if the creators disagree they are forced to comply with mainstream consumer, distributors and else you need to look at what villains say many times they leave their true feelings about the world or society there

 No.215716

There used to be a manga about a NEET whose dad marries a teenage succubus, the dad dies and the succubus helps the NEET become functional again. They even go as far as having sex. The guy becomes a cook in a ramen shop in the end. I was pretty butthurt about how they handled it.
These guys think they're doing good by writing such stories about NEETs but they don't even really care about the actual problems. I don't ask for solutions, at east they could show some respect and portray realistically.

He was 22. I'm 29 now. I watched originally when I was 18. I didn't think I would end up like him for a longer period. Well deep down I did but I got deluded into the "just try brah" stuff.

>>215751

It's realistic in that sense but the succubus looking out for him the entire time try to reach him is unrealistic especially since he has her resources at his disposal as she isn't destitute like he is. It would have been more realistic for it to end in suicide but yeah it's a consumer product.

It was realistic also that his old classmate was involved in a pyramid scheme as pyramid schemes often entrap people without other prospects.

Another anime that has sort of pissed me over time is Ano Hana. Since the guy just needed a ghost succubus to appear out of nowhere, it was just another a way to promote magical thinking.

Yamazaki Is a fucking traitor I hate him so much,he was only into 2D because he was unable to get a 3D girlfriend in both the anime and the book (never read the manga) he was so mad at 3D that his only option was to turn to 2D,not searching for true love,he was just forced to.

Of course he would abandon that mindset the second he got a 3D girlfriend then wife,Yamazaki Is probably the prototype of In-cel way before the term became mainstream-ish.

Yuuichi was the real deal as far as the life of an extreme shut-in is concerned. Satou was basically just a NEET roleplaying as a hikikomori and really only embodied that sort of thing in brief moments or scenes. Whether it's Yuuichi or Satou however, I appreciated that it's at least a matter of survival that drives them to change their ways, as opposed to the manga where, in the case of Yuuichi, he literally becomes an outgoing teacher/professor, or something like that, almost overnight. It's such an absurd flip that it comes off as both insulting & downright hilarious. I never read the book, so I don't know what happens to him there, assuming he's even present in that version. Either way it's not survival, or the threat of starvation, which forces them to change their ways, but that they want to suddenly throw themselves into the world and become nice little productive members of society. In the end, they just needed to pull up their bootstraps, which is why the manga is pretty shit when it comes to the ending. Its portrayal of Misaki is much better though, I think. She's a lot crazier & more manipulative than she in the anime, which makes her at the very least more realistic & more resemblant of actual succubi, which can be a good thing or a bad thing depending on how you look at it.

Anyway, it's always bothered me how people misclassify Satou as a hiki, when he's really just a NEET. At the same time, Yuuichi is a bit of a living cliche when it comes to hikis. I kinda feel like that's the real difference between them. From a scale of 1-10, Satou would be about a 1 or 2 when it comes to how isolated he actually is. Meanwhile, Yuuichi would essentially be a 10, maybe a 9. Personally, I'd consider myself a 7 or 8. I leave my room to use the bathroom/get food and I sometimes speak with my mother about this & that, but, beyond that, I'm the same as Yuuichi.

As for the topic of this thread, I'm far more bothered by the fact that I'm now a couple years older than Travis from TD. I believe in the film he's supposed to be 26 and the fact that I'm now his senior by a number of years still feels quite surreal to me.

 No.215789

>>215788
TD? OP here. Yeah yuuichi was a lot or of a hikki.

In the real world neither of them would stand a chance, to be honest. First delivery fuck up would mean getting fired. Though I hear since construction is harder to automate there's demand in Japan which is why it's shown as being the go-to for NEETs to daylabor at construction sites.

Taxi Driver. I remember watching it for the first time when I was like 19 and now here I am almost 30. Like yourself, it's just an odd & somewhat depressing thing to think about. I sometimes wonder where it is Travis would've ended up after the conclusion of the film. Did he just keep driving his taxi into old age? Did he snap & kill a bunch of people again, perhaps becoming a Charles Bronson (ala Death Wish) like vigilante figure? Did he end up in a mental hospital, sucking down pills before eventually ending up nearly catatonic? Did he simply roll home one night and finally decide to kill himself? Or maybe, and this is the craziest & most unlikely thought of them all, did he actually turn his world around & become a well functioning, sociable human being who enjoys & cherishes life? Well, I guess a story being a story, one will never know, but it's fun/interesting to think about nonetheless.

On that note, it'd be interesting to think of where Satou or Yuuichi ended up. It'd be really cool for somebody to do a sequel to NHK where we re-visit both of those characters, and the rest of the cast, upwards of a decade or so later to see how life turned out for everyone. Satou could have been fired from his job and after failing to get another one managed to get on social assistance and has been back to living as a NEET/hiki ever since. He could also have a bunch of new fumbling misadventures for him to stumble through (like bitcoin or social media, or what have you), but it's real value would be in seeing how things really didn't get better for him and that he's more or less the same as he ever was, but much more far gone. Misaki could be married to someone else, Yamazaki might be a stern family man, Hitomi could have returned to her drug addictions & accidentally overdosed/died. There's a lot of narrative possibilities which would be very interesting to see played out. A good ending would be Satou either finally killing himself, or resigning himself to his isolation forever.

 No.215865

>>215803

Yeah, homelessness/suicide seems like perhaps the most likely thing that happened to him. I guess I just imagine him having probably snapped again, except killing a bunch of random bystanders this time and not the "acceptable murder" of the dregs of society, which would either lead to him being in a mental hospital, being executed, or suicide. Then again, there's the theory that, Travis dies at the end of the film and that what we see in the last minutes of the film is just a fantasy driven by his dying moments. The lead writer of the film has claimed this isn't the case, though.

>>215818

I thought so too. It came as quite a surprise to me as well when I found out Travis as a character is only supposed to be 26. I think DeNiro himself was in his early thirties, wasn't he? I think that's what makes it a little weird too.

Anyway, yeah. Travis has always seemed like this distant figure to me, age-wise. Yet here I am now a couple years older than him and a thousand times more useless & incapable than even him. I too don't have a license and I just live with my parents and never leave my room. Outside of Travis driving his taxi, I guess we at least have that in common, since he basically just spent all his time alone in his apartment. Anyway, I guess it's just the feeling of being left behind & the bearing burdens of living on/getting older. Almost as if the credits never rolled for me as a part of me expected/hoped they would and I'm just doomed to get older & more useless/miserable.

>>215838

Yes, exactly. Travis, despite his faults, was still relatively tough & knew how to survive & get by in the world. I wouldn't last a fucking day out there. I'd simply stumble around in a fugue, wandering in a stupor like a lost lamb with brain damage. I wouldn't know the first thing to do. I'm completely out of step with society & the world. It's dog eat dog, sink or swim, do or die. I'm a soft & sheltered wizard. Throwing me into the world would be like tossing a doll made of tissue paper into the pouring rain. I'd simply be flattened out, torn apart and be left nothing more than a battered blob of nothing.

>>215843
>>215839

In the manga it's because, Misaki visits Yuuichi to try & help him and (like with Satou) to start a contract with him, but he spurns her and tells her to just die & leave him alone. Hearing this, she obliges his request & slices her wrist outside his door in an attempt to kill herself. Afterwards, the shame Yuuichi feels propels him to immediately drop being a hikikomori literally overnight and, not only that, become a fucking full fledged teacher/professor in the spans of basically a week. He's read so many 'books' you see, so he's therefore very smart and that's why being some successful go-getter was such a snap for him. He also develops feelings for Misaki and wants to start a long-term relationship with her, which ends with her stripping naked in front of him and then chastising him for being too shallow mentally/emotionally to ever understand her. In the end, Yuuichi actually ends up marrying & being in a relationship with his sister (Megumi, the pyramid scheme lady), since it's revealed she's always been in love with him.

Random aside, but I'm really curious all of the sudden. Are incestuous relationships even legal? Like, can a brother & sister literally get married & start a family if they want to?

As for the rest, Misaki returns to Satou, but even that falls through. I found it interesting that Misaki & Satou, near the conclusion of the manga, end up being in a real relationship together and it's even implied they had sex. Satou even proposes to Misaki, but, since she's afraid of their lives becoming horrible together, she runs away & leaves Satou for good. At the very end, Satou has a fantasy sequence where he imagines his apartment is being demolished & that Misaki has been living in the attic for a year, ever since she rebuffed his marriage proposal. He plans to die with the destruction of the building & with Misaki, but flees just before the apartment is demolished & Misaki chases after him, which follows with them exchanging some final words and then parting ways for good. This whole sequence seemed to be implied as a dream/fantasy in Satou's head, though. It then skips forward to a clean cut Satou living with his parents and that he's now taking online classes, or something like that, and that he plans to be a writer/artist. One last shot of Misaki is shown as some news correspondent lady(?), which seemed like a particularly random thing for to end up doing, frankly.

>>215842

Not him, but mine doesn't. She & I have talked about it before, but having to take a driving test with a stranger is beyond me. I'm also certain I'd have intense anxiety while driving, so, even if I were to get a license, I'd be too scared to ever drive. I also have nowhere to go, so a license would be mostly pointless for me. My mother still believes in me, but I think that's more coping on her part than anything. She doesn't like to admit to the fact that I'm truly & utterly fucked in life. She simply believes that everything will somehow magically work out for me someday, despite the fact that I dropped out of high school, don't have my GED, don't have a license, and that I've been an isolated hermit for well over a decade now.

That episode where he tries to give everyone an extra piece of fried fish or whatever and everyone ends up thinking he stole food from some other guy. I cried a little bit at that moment. The idea of a guy trying his very best to make the world a better place but repeatedly getting misunderstood and stomped at every corner in life makes it for a really loveable and charming character. Just thinking about it makes me want to read the whole thing again.

Are you referring to NHK, or that Mr. Robot show? If it's the latter, then I don't know why you used those words to describe it. That stupid looking jackass from Mr. Robot isn't even a NEET and to even describe him as a hiki is insulting & offensive, both to the word itself & actual hikis. Hikikomori shouldn't be a synonym for the word NEET. It's still really sad/frustrating to see that it's been corrupted, co-opted & reduced down by so many people to that level. Imagine if the term 'wizard' was suddenly synonymous with the term 'in-cel' across the entire internet and people kept misusing it all the time to mean the same as, or be synonymous with the former. That's why it's sad. Also, Misaki & Satou never have sex in the anime, but it's implied that they did in the manga.

This game was such a comfort from that. I wasn't fluent at English yet, I couldn't understand some game mechanics like laws. I remember having turned Montblanc into a melee fighter instead of keeping him like a mage. I turned him into a dual-wielder just like I turned Marje because I thought they were pals and they deserved the same fighting style.

I gave Marje the strongest or second strongest sword, can't remember. Could never get the judge sword so I think it was the second. I remember giving Montblanc Colichemarde which was the third most powerful sword.

the interesting thing about NHK is things never really got better for Satou. He never really over came his problems in a meaningful way and other characters for the most part barely improved either. Its a double edged sword because on one hand it represents that maybe he moved forward a little bit and doing construction (I think it was at night to boot but Its been awhile so correct me if I am wrong.) While on the other hand we all know that his moving forward is just being stuck at dead end baito work and likely he will just relapse to one degree or another. Its kind of open ended and if you are a normal person you will see it as a positive ending with hope. Yet if you actually suffer from mental illness yourself you will see it as bleak but relatable.

Its a pretty realistic ending as far as things go. Only other way to have an ending that felt real would of been if he killed himself or something along those lines.

Its funny though because I was in a similar situation before this anime ever came out and I went and did what he did and got some dead end job to try and move forward. It didn't work out for me and blew up in my face and actually made my problems worse.

All in all good anime all the way around I would recommend it to just about anyone that isn't a hyper social teen or young adult. Anyone else should be able to handle it.

Having some dead end job for Satou and the Hikki neet is not solving much of life's problems. At best its a small step forward that could end in disaster or he could end up in that kind of dead end work for nothing lifestyle and tread water forever just barely surviving. The succubus was his sole victory so at least he wasn't completely alone. The Hikki neet MMO guy was likely even more boned in the end though.

I always felt Yamazaki was a poser who was mostly just chasing his dreams which is not a bad thing but other wise his life was likely set from the beginning. The caveat was he had to give up on his dreams for the farm life and had to settle for it. He ended up happy in theory but he was kind of shallow and prone to brag so its hard to say how truly happy he was as far as the farm was concerned but I am sure he was happy with the succubus at least.

I suppose that is one thing about NHK it feeds the fantasy that getting a GF will magically fix someones life. In my experience its the opposite succubi lead men to ruin more often than not but I guess its nice to imagine Satou got a break for once.
