depressed people are shit. they are doing it to themselves without realizing. they keep making fun of "just stop doing it" mentality like it was bad advice. with this they perpetually reinforce their own powerlessness by reaffirming, that they have no control over how they feel.

it is exact lack of self control that needs to be present for depression to exist.

of course they dont want to hear this because they have started using their depression as the board of chess that they use to relate to the other people around them.

giving up the idea of not being in charge of themselves has become a building block that too much of a depressed person's psyche has been built on. giving that up would require them to rethink more then they feel able to handle.

The concept of "you" being in charge of "yourself" makes literally no sense whatsoever.

There is an endless stream of people who post what you're posting. The common theme is that they are posting to convince themselves more than help anyone. Focusing on the depressed "other" who causes their own suffering, as an entire self-sufficient cause of suffering, strengthens the ability to maintain thoughts around self-control. It is one way of closing off a threat to maintaining the current mental state.

Everyone should spend a few years playing the psychological games and swapping between ideologies/philosophies/cultures/language to see if it changes their experience. It doesn't work for some. Human language and conversation selects for those who it works though, so, in the end it doesn't matter.

It's okay to feel depressed, you literally can't force yourself to stop being depressed period. I just don't like anyone whining about it 24/7, I used to do that all the time and it's the main reason why I ended up here in this hell. No one ever cares and doesn't wanna hear about it, no one can help you and everyone already has problems on their own, that's why journals exist aswell for a reason.

You are wrong but there is truth to your statement.

There is no such thing as depression as a mental illness. What we think of depression is just our natural response to bad external stimuli. Like being forced to be a part of civilization. When normalcattle say that depressed people don’t have self control or discipline, what they are really saying is that they can’t take the beatings that the system gives them, that they don’t want to follow orders and that they don’t want to conform. They are getting mad at them for not wanting to be slaves like them. It’s essentially crabs in a bucket mentality.

The principal flaw in your argument is when you say
>giving up the idea of not being in charge of themselves has become a building block that too much of a depressed person's psyche has been built on
This is self defeating. Because when a person with depressive symptoms wants to get better and acknowledges they are “depressed”, they give up control over their own subjective reality and allow the therapist to define it for them, thereby giving up self control in an attempt to get it back

It doesn't involve a sense of self control, it involves a sense of powerlessness. Being alone requires us to define and rationalize our own existence. Normal people have a support structure and build up each other. In a primitive place the person that is "sick" is made better by the shamen. The shamen reaffirms his own belief in his powers, says the sick is cured. the sick person is reaffirmed in his belief that he is cured. The audience it reaffirmed in their belief and acceptance, and because of the audience and their acceptance, the patient is further reaffirmed in his belief.

Cool story brah. Unfortunately, it does nothing to mend the glaring contradiction in your opinion. Control, power, call it whatever you like. It doesn’t stop your feelings from being self defeating

OP you are Half right and half wrong.
You are correct for pointing out a lot of people just make "depression" their entire identity and use it to relate to others whilst not possibly being "truly depressed".

You err by assuming you know what depression is in a clinical context where it does rob the potential for joy from people and sometimes what helps these people cope is talking to others about how shit everything is.
Depression can limit your functioning.
Depression is more than just being down because some bullshit happened it can even be without cause itself and there is NOTHING you can do about it because that implies it is a response to a lack of something you want or need.

Agree if you mean existence itself being incompatible for someone.

If your depression is caused by something you are a lucky bastard and just need to try go get whatever that is. Even working towards it will make you feel better.
