Most wizards can get gainful employment if they want to, what kind of employment it is, depends on their IQ and qualitications.
It's not impossible to become a software engineer if you are at least 110+ IQ. The certificates are cheap and the programming languages can be self-taught given 3-5 years of dedication.
I freelance as a programmer and I have zero education towards C, Python, SQL databases etc., everything I learned was from Stackoverflow, Reddit or phpBB forums as a teenager. I can easily get $1k for a gig that takes me a day or two to finish.
But I don't get those gigs all the time so it's uncertain employment.
