I still have really good memories of this game but all the small servers that I played on are dead. Anyone else here in the same boat? Also gib sever address if you can.

I often play minecraft. It's very relaxing, therapeutic almost. Just gathering blocks while I think about something new to build is extremely calming for me.
The map I'm playing in used to be a server's map; six people me included played there. I moved about 2000 blocks away from the original base and started over, but i still take a trip there from time to time, just to feel the feels.
I'd gladly play on small wiz server.

I always pondered about starting a chill wiz minecraft server. The only requirement I have is that I want it to be a beta version it's running, however I can't seem to find ANY beta server jars out there. I've stumbled across a few beta servers before, so I know they're out there. Can any wiz help? Or am I doomed to used post-1.8 jars?

this could be interesting: dont add any rules to the server that are enforced by administration, but let players form their own rules and enforce them through strength

 No.40744

>>40737
This is a nice idea, but is not practical. What good is your strength after you log out? What are you going to do about someone who walks in and detonates a couple of stacks of TNT in your base while everyone else is asleep? Without rules as a deterrence and rollback infrastructure as a remedy, there is no defense against this. You might say that retaliation can act as both deterrence and remedy, but you don't necessarily know who did it and it doesn't return the hours of work that you lost. There is no forensic evidence to analyze, and even if you do identify the culprit, he may not have a base for you to destroy. If he does, he may not care if it is destroyed; griefers tend to not be builders.

There are several sites out there that can tell you the ban history of users. I think the better solution would to actually have rules, though. Then you could use forensics/rollback plugins to identify, ban, and revert the damage caused by the griefers. Just having rules in the first place acts as some layer of deterrence. Or are you actually okay with peoples' houses being blown up, items stolen, and spawn being covered in lava? You were happy to see the wizard commune, but are you okay with someone raiding and destroying it when no one is online to stop them? I don't understand why you do not have any rules on the server.

 No.40891

such drama, wow

 No.40892

>>40889
>dont propagate the cycles of revenge
You're missing the point and clearly do not understand the implications of the initial event. Whether or not I took revenge was completely irrelevant because the security of the commune and all of its geographically-connected associates had already been irreparably destroyed. I decided to take revenge because no one would have realized this until they had put even more hours into the server.

Let's say for a moment that I had done nothing, and all the wizards in the commune banded together and helped me rebuild. What exactly is stopping the griefer from destroying everything again? Even if you know who the griefer is and have banished him from the commune, there is nothing you can do to stop him from coming back to the same coordinates when everyone is offline. He also won't be banned because the server has no rules. The only solution is to move somewhere where no one else can find me, which precludes the good-natured wizards from rendering aid because I do not know who to trust. The same applies to the commune as a whole: there is a griefer in your midst, and he knows your location. There is nothing you can do except move and hope that he doesn't follow. And then you have to hope that none of your current members are unidentified griefers and that initiates of the commune are trustworthy.

The fact that the server has no rules and no countermeasures against griefing means that even the slightest contamination damages all connected components beyond repair.

 No.40893

So you advocate nuking neighborhoods where a crime is left unsolved. It doesn't matter how many paragraphs of mental gymnastics you write, you are an even worse individual than the guy who did that to you. Don't try to justify yourself, it just adds insult to injury.

 No.40898

>>40897
Are you ignoring everything I write on purpose? I am advocating for the addition of rules and anti-grief/rollback plugins. Your metaphor establishes a false premise in which the griefing is merely unsolved. In this "neighborhood", it doesn't matter whether crime is solved or not: the crime is unstoppable. The only two solutions are to leave or introduce some means of enforcement.

>try to justify

I make no attempts to morally justify my retaliation. My primary reason for doing it was to make a point, which you can take however you like. However, it is a fact that my actions were "justified" within the context of the server rules, which is the fundamental problem that I am trying to explain. I would have been content playing the game peacefully, but as I said before: once a single bad actor knows your location, it's over.

 No.40899

>>40898
Again, if he's a "bad actor" for fucking up with your stuff, then what that makes you, the guy who messed with everyone's stuff? If I ever make a minecraft server, you're certainly not in the list of people I'd let in.

>I make no attempts to morally justify my retaliation.

That's what you're doing, and it wasn't a "retaliation". It was a outburst of anger target at random people. The guy who did that to you is probably laughing for managing to get you to have this reaction.

 No.40901

I don't think I want to entertain you anymore. You are clinging to the idea that you're a good guy who were justified in what you did, I just wanted to make it clear that you're wrong because I get upset when bad people don't even admit that they did bad stuff. The bottom line is, if you're arguing that you were innocent and he wronged you and you acted in revenge, then you're admitting that fucking with people's stuff is wrong, therefore fucking up with even more innocent peoples stuff makes you an even worse person than whoever did that to you. There's really nothing else I can say, this is crystal clear no matter how much you cling to your false belief of self-righteousness. This is about morals, which in your case are skewed by hypocrisy and self-serving bias.

 No.40907

>>40906
>if you're arguing that you were innocent and he wronged you and you acted in revenge
You seriously need to work on your reading comprehension. I am arguing that it is impossible to stop a griefer on a server that has no rules and no anti-griefing countermeasures once he knows your location. A griefer knows the location of both the commune and my base, therefore it is impossible to defend either location. That is the core of my argument, which you seem to be ignoring.

I could have simply waited for him to grief the commune himself, but then the discussion would be focused around the trivial matter of blame rather than the real issues at hand: the lack of countermeasures against griefing and the fact that griefing is allowed on the server in the first place. Unfortunately, no one seems capable of understanding this and the server owner doesn't care about griefing, so my attempt was unsuccessful.

>I see that you still fail to understand that the commune was ruined as soon as one of the commune members turned out to be a griefer; at that point, it was unsalvageable.

You could've approached this issue at hand through a plethora of ways.

1. Inform the members of the commune.

You could inform the members of the commune that a griefer was at large. Even if the griefer was informed, the rest of the commune would have been as well, and they would have the chance to create an end chest and put their stuff in that, put the rest in shulker boxes and have a chance at moving. I myself have lost everything, and am now left with iron tools when I formerly had enchanted elytra wings, a wholly enchanted diamond armour, enchanted diamond tools and shulker boxes filled to the brim with resources. I lost a lot because of your presumptions - weeks of work under a period of my life where I am extremely busy, unstable and depressed.

2. Done nothing.

You could've done nothing, moved away and then let the commune destroy itself from the inside. Why did you have the urge to send your scorn and roil the commune with your explosives when it wouldn't really do anything to help bring back the stuff you lost? All you did was cause more pain, and you know that just as well as I do.

3. Left the server.

Simple enough: you could've just left the server. You're not happy with people griefing your base despite it being an anarchy server, and as such, you could've just left the server. I acknowledge that you might think that's hypocritical as I am still playing despite you ruining everything we've built up, but the difference is that we were griefed by someone we thought was nice, by someone we had our trust in. I seriously thought that you were a nice person. Even while you griefed my base without my knowledge, you spoke to me like a fellow friendly wizard. It's a backstab, it's a betrayal, and it pierces my heart with unimaginable pain - to think that even wizards cannot be trusted in this time of strife.

So to summarize - what you did was objectively wrong. You've ruined tons of work for the actions of one, and as such, you are the only one that the blame of our base's destruction lies upon.

Apologies for my poorly structured ramblings. I'm emotional as I am writing this, considering the time and effort I've laid into it especially during a busy period of my life. I'm sad, just like many of us fellow wizards, and you just made me even sadder.

Fuck you. I hate you with every fiber of my being. If I only knew where you lived so that I could impose my revenge unto you, then I would.

>elytra wings, diamond armor, diamond tools, shulker boxes
None of these were in any of the chests that I destroyed, and I checked all of them. Either you're lying and you never had them/still have them in your Ender chest, or they were gone before I got there. As a whole, the entire commune had approximately equal to, if not less than the amount of resources and tools formerly in my base.

>Inform the commune

I certainly could have informed the commune, but that wouldn't have solved anything. The server owner didn't care about spawn being griefed, but he had shown some interest in the commune. It was possible that its destruction would convince him to add anti-grief mechanisms. I wasn't technically part of the commune, so I assumed that the owner wouldn't care if my base was destroyed. It turns out that he cared about neither of them.

>Done nothing/left the server

If I had done nothing, then I would not have been able to effectively use the commune's destruction as an attempt to convince the server owner (and more generally to show the folly of an anarchy server). It didn't work, of course, but I hold that it was more effective than using my own base for that instead. The outcome was also the same: the destruction of the commune; if the commune had not already been lost, then I would not have destroyed it. In the server's current state, communal life is impossible, and you can only play as a hermit far enough away that no one will ever find you.

I also trusted the members of the commune, so don't pretend you're the only one that was betrayed.

Nice work, anon. I have a few suggestions for improvement, though. First, vary your block choice so that it doesn't look as plain. But I have a few questions if you don't mind. Do people still play on it? When did you start the server? And, if I were to build, can I start anywhere where there's open land, or are there places I'm not to go to?

Glad your enjoying the server. Off the top of my head I really can't think of any specific areas that are off limits. So long as what you build doesnt directly conflict with anything other wizzies have created I don't see any reason why you couldnt build where you please. Just try and keep what you build from being a spawn point for enemies which only involves placing torches properly.

True, there isn't a good way to build a very shallow angle of decline. You could probably try decrements at various spacings to see how it looks, though. Another thought: you could fake the decrement by placing snow like this on the top. That would be a lot of clicking, though; a single block that's slightly lower than a standard block is seven layers of snow.

>materials

I was thinking something like the left 2-3 in pic related. I don't think polished granite looks very good here, though. You can use upside-down stair and half-slabs to improve the curve as well. You can experiment around with using gray colors such as andesite, stone bricks, stone, and cobble. It might be worth trying some colors of terracotta as well.

Sorry for the lack of news. The server admin sent a support ticket to the host but we do not have our hopes up as its a bit of a sketchy company. The current theory is that the lag was caused by either a policy change from said sketchy company or a intentional slowdown that occurs after X number of months.

Anywho the server admin decided that if they do not respond in a week or two he will find a new company to host the server. Hopefully ht lag is ACTUALLY being caused by the host, we tried everything possible involving plugins and even chunk removal so were 95% sure that it's the host slowing the server down but ya never know.

So the host responded and said "everything is fine on our end" which means were gonna be forced to migrate since we have been unsuccessful after many many hours of attempting to fix the lag. This kinda sucks as we had a boat load of uptime left even after how long it's been.

We might do a little bit more testing but at this point it's just a matter of gathering funds and finding another unregistered host located in a neutral enough space to not totally screw anyone over with lag. Sorry about the hiccup but thats life for ya.

Minecraft is normally capped at 1g ram and since the server save is so dense you may run into issues loading the map at first. There are methods online for uncapping it. Also this save is about 2months out of date from the exact point the server went down because….reasons….

Pic related is the only hard location I could locate wings in since everyone kept stuff like that either on their person or inside of enderchests. Please keep in mind adding the nether or wither is not 100% required but if you choose to not go through the additional trouble I would recommend not entering either of them.

Other than that please enjoy checkin out the server! It was up for well over a year but not all of that time were people active in playing it. You can find structures wizzies made pretty randomly no matter where you go. Having the original nether would help quite a bit as we did have a hub connecting many of our bases.

I am purchasing a server right now. It'll follow the Wizchan rules. As aforementioned, it'll require the purchased version of Minecraft. Reply with your name to get whitelisted, IP will be provided momentarily.

Aaaand the server is up! It's currently running on vanilla Minecraft 1.14.2 with no plugins whatsoever. To join, you have to have Minecraft purchased which means no cracked accounts allowed. You also have to reply to this post with your Minecraft username to be whitelisted, as to avoid invaders. Rules on this server are all of Wizchan's rules, plus that griefing and killing players without their consent is bannable.

IP: 188.165.37.5

Hope to see you there!

I forgot to say that I won't allow hacked clients either on the server, so there's that.

>>45551

I guess you'll like this one, then. As long as there's at least one other person playing on this, I won't shut down this server.

>>45560

Thanks. I'll perhaps set up a way for people to donate in the future if more are willing. I bought one of the more expensive options due to the stability that I wanted.

>>45578

I seriously cannot be arsed to set up plugins and shit on a Minecraft server. Perhaps this'll be a thing in the future. Who knows.

I've done some changes on the server, including adding a claim plugin that'll allow you to claim your stuff (the amount of blocks you can claim increases with the amount of time played) as well as a plugin that'll allow you to set your home, send teleportation requests to players and teleport to spawn! I've tried setting up a plugin that'll allow for the people with a cracked client to join but the first plugin didn't work at all and the second crashed the server. Once I find a plugin that'll work then I'll open the gates to those with cracked clients as well.

Again, if you want to join, just respond to either this post or to the post that I am replying to with your username. We've a total of three players playing on the server and we've a cozy wizardly atmosphere going on. Rules are as follows:

- Wizchan rules.
- No griefing, hacking or killing (the latter without consent)

Server now has a login plugin that'll force you to create a password for your account in the server, as to allow wizards with a cracked client to join as well. I'm keeping the server only for people who have bought Minecraft until tomorrow so that they have a chance to login and set their passwords, just in case name theft happens.

tl;dr - cracked clients will be allowed soon!, like the old server

Turning the server into a cracked server led to all the cached data on our characters to reset. Inventory, whitelist data, everything. I couldn't whitelist people either, so I reverted it back to the "you have to buy Minecraft" mode.

You can login now and everything will be fine.

Server is now officially open for those with a cracked (not bought) client! Come one, come all! Whitelist doesn't work so I just removed it - not much of an issue anyway since as a NEET, I'm online most of the day anyway and can ban any unwizardly people right away.

I know, but turning the server into offline mode cuts off communication with Mojang and thus creates new UUIDs for the players, resetting their inventories, homes and whatnot. I've fixed it, and the server's up and running unwhitelisted and cracked as mentioned above for all of Wizchan to enjoy.

They? I did, the admin, and I didn't only ban you because of your griefing.

I also banned you because of your normie behaviour and your blatant X-raying, evident when you literally mined in zig-zag after veins and got a full set of diamond tools and armour in 5 mins.

Fuck off, normscum.

Too bad. It's also easy to enforce because we've plugins to help us, like claim plugins.

If you need instructions on how to use it then either google "Minecraft GriefPrevention Plugin" or ask me for an instruction book and I'll spawn one for you.

Would anyone be interested in a Towny minecraft server? Being essentialy player-led. I'd envision it as a semi-anarchy server, with people still being able to protect their stuff and prevent things like the wizcommune inccident on the lizard server.
