Hello everybody, in this thread I would like you to talk about games you kept an eye on but eventually got canned. Not just (potential) masterpieces, just titles that stirred your interest for one reason or another. Here's mine:
1) Timesplitters 4 ( https://www.unseen64.net/2009/03/24/time-splitters-4-x360ps3-cancelled/ ): I really enjoyed the trilogy and feel quite nostalgic about its satire. Nowadays it's harder to take things lightly
2) The Dark Knight ( https://www.unseen64.net/2009/03/31/batman-dark-knight-x360ps3-cancelled/ ): Do you remember the 2008 Batmania? I remember it fondly! I was eagerly waiting to play the game after watching the movie (and eating the pizza: http://channel13metal.blogspot.com/2012/01/dominos-gotham-city-pizza.html )
3) Chrono resurrection ( https://chrono.fandom.com/wiki/Chrono_Resurrection ): This one, a fan project, was supposed to recreate Chrono Trigger in 3D. Square Enix sent a "cease and desist". They could have picked it up à la Valve with Counter Strike, if you ask me.

You know about TimeSplitters Rewind, right?

I honestly didn't, thanks a lot

I remember being excited for EQ next a few years ago.

fug, I remember that one, shame it turned into some minecraft clone and died

A lot of stuff to be said IMH:
How SOE was too scared of zoomers not to gratify them with that minecraft shit.
How Sony (I presume), decided to part ways with SOE soon after.
How it could have definitely revamped the EQ brand but, like most good things, turned to shit.

I can't think of anything so I'll just go with this.

It would be interesting to find out how much of Silent Hills got into Death Stranding.
On a different note, I always wondered how much Guillermo Del Toro was actually involved in the project other than definitely being a buzz name.

This one for sure.

It came, it went.

Legacy of Kain: Dead Sun
Instead we got some retarded multiplayer shooter that died after like a year
This one kinda but I don't know how Kojima SH would've turned out.

This one, I would play it in high school. Holy guacamole, I'm old.

Years and years ago I remember Snoop Dog was coming out with a 3rd person shooter that was somewhat similar in gameplay to True Crime:Streets of LA game (if you remember that).
Really sressing my memory but I think it was going to be called something like Fear and Respect but I am not sure.

From what was published about it in gameinformer and a few now gone websites it looked a lot better then the 50 cent games that came out a few years later.

Still not as cool as Def Jam though. That game was great.

This game pre-CU was the best game I ever played. There still hasn't been any MMO that came close to it.

True Crime was a very good game, deserving a lot more praise than what it got IMH.
About Fear and Respect, you mention, it definitely looks cool as hell, considering the time

Digging a bit, it turns out the story of "Legacy of Kain" as a franchise is a lot more convoluted than what I thought. Thanks for the hint. This article is worth reading if you feel like:

I thought the game was kinda fucked when they started handing out jedi like candy. It was better for immersion when people picked professions entirely on personal choice.

Yeah it was a bit of a shitshow from the start, with stuff like Silicon Knights and Crystal Dynamics fighting over the 1st game. Gonna check that thread out, looks interesting.

MML3. Bring MegaMan back from the Space Station please.

This of course is of the highest ranks of games to cause butthurt, or lack of games as they planned literally a third but capitalism literally got in the way.

Not that I play it but:
Why did the Shadowgate have to die?

>but capitalism literally got in the way.
Bruh, MML1 and 2 wouldn't even exist w/o capitalism.

I don't want to spam this image over and over again to make people understand but I guess I have to.

Mml1 and 2 were early gamers. They were dweebs, like wizards, later gamers are normalfaggots that like cod and madden and gta and etc.

Think the image over and you'll realize in shock that them saying it's the fan's fault means 'we didn't have as many people to make it for by comparison to [insert normalfag game]' as after all most people are normal ergo most people get catered to, not that oldfaggot dweeb.

Literally they said 'not enough support' to make it.

What could have been a great game. Killed by the mouse.

it is kind of funny how stuff like legends and zx didn't get sequels when they needed them but X literally had a definite ending and capcom still pumped out three more games for it. I have no idea how well mm11 sales did or all the lc's but depending on that we might see a continue of mml, but doubtful, mmexe/sf collection should be coming out next year so there is still interest in the series I guess

imo every single game on that list is garbage/casual crap for normals, it all getting homogenized into cod isnt a surprise, Im surprised 2011 isnt skyrim though

zelda and pokemon are the only ones that aren't that groidish, although im surprised that counter-strike isn't in the list

Come to think of it, the fact that they kept pushing X as the flagship Megaman, while all of the innovation was being relegated to handhelds, is probably why the franchise completely lost relevancy around the 6th to 7th gen.
I wonder how things would look if Zero was made as a 3D action game for consoles, while the later X games came out on GBA instead.

N1RV Ann-A

This was supposed to be made by the same people who made VA-11 Hall-A but for certain reasons it got delayed indefinitely. Sadly, there will be no more comfy cyberpunk bartending.

Is it really never ever?

I hope so

They never said it was cancelled. Well, it might end up getting cancelled, but at least they said they still intend to finish it.

And what have we got in all of the years since the Demonic Mouse took over? Uhhh…an incredibly generic and forgettable jedi game. Thanks Mickey.

there was a cool 2010ish game called ace of spades where you dig and build voxel bases as teams of little blue and green army men, and kill or capture the enemy flag. it was trench and tunnel warfare and a lot of fun. it had millions of installs and a monthly player base of half a million in a few months

jagex bought it, hired the original developer, he saw it was turning into shit and bailed and they nuked his computer and got the cops called on him. from the original prototype, to the shitty jagex reversion, to its playerbase death… it all happened in under 2 years

older versions of the original ace of spades were brought back later as 'build and shoot' with a lot of servers but nowadays there's no more than like a dozen people online now. something pure and good was destroyed by the big gay. it seems to have more success as a roblox game, kids on there have made functional equivalents and enjoy it, so at least it lives on for the next generation

I remember these days with warmth in my heart

actually i take it back, it might be dead but i still had fun. there was like 20 people on a server today and it was the same autistic building simulator vs firs person shooter that i remembered

I believe it would have turnt into a dead game anyways, just like any other online game these days, people migrate to more entertaining alternatives

Thats openspades, an open source launcher for ace of spades, it crossplays with normal players launcher

THQ Nordic acquired both the Timesplitters IP and Dambuster studios (former Free Radical) a few years back. After that they announced they'd be making some kind of new Timesplitters. It's been a while but at least there's been a new sign of life.
