Anime is so overwhelming as a newcomer. Other people seem to know all these terms and shows and characters. How do I get into it? I’ve accepted anime as my religion and I want to dive right in.
>>31023 just google 'anime genres', pick one, and then watch shows in that genre. if you dont like it, pick another genre.
if you're a dumb wageslave you can have anime forcefed to you via crunchyroll. if you're a dumb neet you can stream from any other site for free. otherwise you can use any of the "nyaa" torrent websites and obtain your shows that way.
>>31027 this is pretty good advice. you can also look at compilations of anime openings on youtube and if any of them stick out, you can go ahead and watch that.
Stop caring that much, take one of the many guides, accept that you'll never reach your elders knowledge, lurk and have fun. You'll create a backlog that will last you for years naturally. Don't be afraid to create threads on slower boards as a slowpoke. If you're being honest (don't go in spouting memes) and the anime isn't completely in current normalfag territory you'll at worst get no answers or a lone saged shitpost.
https://animu-mango.fandom.com/wiki/Anime_Recommendations Almost anything here is a good bet for starting But what kind of stuff are you interested in? Action, mundane stuff, comedy? Maybe I can reccomend something specific you may enjoy
>>31023 > I’ve accepted anime as my religion I know we're on /jp/ but have a little decency. Also just go and watch whatever the fuck you want man. It's like saying you're new to movies, it's just a medium not some cult.
Not OP, but questions: 1. Is it normal to forget some details of series I’m watching? I constantly feel the need to rewatch parts to remember. Maybe just OCD. 2. How do I determine the correct watch order for anime series with lots of releases, OVAS, special episodes etc.?
>>31033 1. yeah everyone forgets stuff, especially me. i would say if the constant rewatching is taking away from your enjoyment of the medium, it may not be worth it. i know i have to quash such tendencies in myself or i'll burn out over trying to get every tiny detail in my head at once.
>>31033 >Is it normal to forget some details of series I’m watching? I constantly feel the need to rewatch parts to remember. Maybe just OCD. Totally normal. Even when rewatching my most beloved series I'll be surprised by things I'd forgotten.
>>31033 best order to watch anime is start with the second to last episode, then watch in chronological order from the second episode, watch the last episode, and then watch the first
>>31033 I don't understand how people keep asking about watch order. People who were watching this stuff as it came out didn't have a choice, they watched it as it was released, so why is it suddenly a mystery about how to watch stuff? Just sort by date it came out and go down the list, that is the most "authentic" experience you're gonna get. Anybody telling you a special watch order is full of it. There's a tiny handful of anime that benefit from rearranging the viewing order, the release order is both the default and the best option for nearly all anime. I just don't get what's so hard to understand about this, it seems so obvious to me to start with whatever came out first then go to the next thing. How do you people imagine we watched these shows as they aired?
>>31023 I just watch whatever piques my interest, you shouldn't really care too much about how much others seem to know. I've watched it for years now and I don't know anything really beyond what I watch. It's really just a time-killer for me
>>31048 god it hard when the series has somany fucking episodes and a new one drops every week or so, I had to drop one piece because it was so overwhelming for me
How do I get over this weird OCD I have where I have to skim through watched episodes of series I’m watching? I worry if I don’t remember every detail of every episode.
Just watch the "classics" which everyone online knows about first; stuff like Evangelion, Cowboy Bebop, Akira, Lain, Cardcaptor Sakura, the original Ghost in the Shell etc. That alone will give you enough to watch for at least a few months. After that, just look at recommendation charts and pick whatever seems most interesting.
>>31023 Seems weird to think of anime is so important when you've seen very little. I've been watching it for about 5-6 years and I still feel like I haven't seen a tenth of the things I wanted to. Personally I'd suggest watching some more easy stuff like short action series and reading manga now and then so you don't burn out.
Watch whatever you want it doesn't matter. Don't force yourself to watch something because others say you should, it may not even be a genre you are interested in anyway(and you didn't specify what genre that is so it quite likely will be).
>>31380 Not him but that's not 3D-like at all, especially in the face. I actually like art like this because it looks realistic while still preserving many of the idealized and purer aspects of 2D, especially in her face. I don't see a stinky succubus face, but the perfect 2D female.
Watch mainstream anime YouTubers and get your recommendations from them. It'll also help you learn some of the terms. Alternatively you can watch any of the super popular shows and you'll probably have a good time https://myanimelist.net/topanime.php?type=bypopularity
>>31023 id say start to get into some short series first, dont go straight into the 800+ episode animes, the longest thing in reading/watching is jojos bizarre adventure
