Watching Pop Team Epic and that's it. Might try Darling in the whatever and Violet Evergarden to see if it lives up to all the praise it's getting. Which I doubt.
YuruCamp has made me want to go to Japan even more, just like that Japanwiz did, and homelessly roam the land.
Is Franxx really that good or is it just standard Trigger hype? The description doesn't really appeal to me.
Anyway Yuru Camp, Ryuuou no Shigoto and Sora yori mo Tooi Basho are all contending for my personal AOTS. Good season imo.
Normalfags and low power-level failed normalfag types seem to really enjoy Franxx. For the record it's very unwizardly thematically. The hentai and ecchi on pixiv is pretty good, though.
Started watching fate extra last encore, its a lot different from the game.
>>25894>For the record it's very unwizardly thematically
99.9% of everything in this world is
The good news about Franxx is that 'here's your controller bro' NEVER gets old
I've been enjoying mitsuboshi colors.
I'm surprised I'm saying this but Fate/Extra has potential even though the first two episodes were a bit average. They've set it up so the story could go in a completely different direction to anything Fate so far. Nasu is also apparently very involved in the writing process and he has gotten better as a writer since Fate/Tsukihime days. I think it will either be really great or really shit, it's not gonna be average.
It has had its ups and downs so far. The last few episodes have been pretty great in my opinion, but I might just have shit taste. It's the only show I really look forward to each week. It might not be wizardly per se but I just watch what I find enjoyable
Tried to watch FranXX and Violet, dropped both after the first episode. For the former, I've seen enough boring male protagonist+his cute eccentric buddy stinky at his side. For the latter the best way I could describe it was like watching some mediocre oscarbait.
Worth it for the best succubus though
I watch/read stuff for stories. If all there is to it is to gawk at a stinky then it's worth even less to me than it was before.
only Hakumei to Mikochi got me interested this season. didn't watch but will when it's going to be finished. maybe YuruCamp and Mitsuboshi Colors too.
The story was good in the last episode, right up until the MC just regressed his demon AIDS through sheer asspull.
nothing got me interested. It's rare something interested me.
I was enjoying Franxx until after that episode. The last few weeks it has been all SoL-tier story. It's not bad and totally useless but I want more plot progression and mecha action. I'll watch it all the way through but I'm not as hyped as I used to be.
darling was alright, havent been keeping up with it though. the last episodes were boring as fuck the one where they go to beach and the next ep where they fight in the house, jesus please just battle some fucking robots
grancrest pretty good so far but again havent been keeping up with it as soon as theo lost his shit and began serving under that one guy it's been fucking BORING just people talking and politicking, the beginning was great every episode they were fucking destroying and claiming territory and battling and now i can't even stay awake
overlord i don't know anymore, i'm still watching it but nothing ever happens this fucking stupid princess, climb, brain, stronhoff or whatever stuff is boring as hell. i dont give a fuck about the lizards either and they havent even been mentioned at all anymore, was a waste of the beginning of the season. i just want ainz to dominate the world already with his op magic
was watching that ryou's work chess anime up to a few weeks ago but i dropped it. too much whiny crying loli it was hard to watch after the second ai came around
dropped that other chess anime, i forget, it's the one where he basicaly hangs out at that succubi house with her sisters and the older sister (akira?) is mom tier. i dont know why i stopped watching it,it was alright
dropped that death march anime also. became unbearably boring, realized i didn't care about main character, he's a damn idiot, it's not fun at all, and it wasn't going to be some fun fantasy world adventure like i had hoped
quite a few others but i probably deleted the memories from my brain already, this season sucks
>>26107>this season sucks
Yeah the season started off promising but a lot of shows have fell apart the past few weeks. Next season doesn't look very good either though there's a small hope FMP will be good. Steins Gate will suck and LOGH will probably suck too. Nothing else really stands out to me.
Koi wa Ameagari no You ni
Sora yori mo Tooi Basho
Death March kara Hajimaru Isekai Kyousoukyoku
Karakai Jouzu no Takagi-san
Garo: Vanishing Line
Ryuuou no Oshigoto!
Darling in the FRANXX
Junji Ito Collection
I'm enjoying everything I'm watching.
Forgot to add I also dropped beatless.
>>26114>Watching: Slow Start>Dropped: Mitsuboshi Colors
I dropped both of them. Did Slow Start get better or something?
This season will feel shitty if you're not watching any of the good shows. You picked a bunch of mediocre ones to start with.
Try Sora yori, Yuru Camp, Toji no Miko, Killing Bites, Kokkoku, and violet evergarden.
You strategically avoided everything that was good this season.
it had a slow start. Then they had an entire episode about dressing up a hikki succubus. Then they had an entire episode where they dressed up in bikinis at home because it was raining.
top three are Violet Evergarden, Koi wa Ameagari, and Yuru Camp
everything else i'm watching this season ranges from decent (Kokkoku) to really bad (Ito Junji and Death March)
honestly don't get the hype around Sora Yori. it's well made, but i'm unconvinced by the plot. nothing really seems earned and all the solo development episodes are kinda hamhanded with the exception of ep 12 which i do think was stellar and kinda worth the whole season
Sora Yori had lots of promise at the start but I agree with you on all fronts. Yuru Camp (really good) and Ryuuou no Shigoto (picks a lot of boxes for me personally) are my top two. This season I dropped a record 9 shows and stuck through 3 to the end but I'm thinking of watching Hakumei to Mikochi even though it's nearly finished.
Just finished Pop Team Epic, that had to be worst last episode of any anime I have ever seen. Sad thing is that I actually enjoyed the rest of the show but this left a very bad taste in my mouth. If the last episode being shit was part of the joke then I guess they at least succeeded at that.
funny, i hate this show and thought the last episode was at least interesting.https://blog.sakugabooru.com/2018/03/24/marchen-madchen-a-production-postmortem/
anyone else watching marchen madchen? i'm not, but i kinda wanna watch it to see how much of a train wreck it is, is this worth checking out at least in that regard?
I dropped it on episode six I think. The animation quality just got so bad it was insufferable. Its a shame too because there were some really good scenes, like in the onsen where the American succubus confronts the Chinese succubus and her matchsticks light up and it looks really cool.
Oh well. The OP is really good though!
I'm glad I don't watch seasonal shows that I really feel like have potential so I can still watch this in its entirety. Based on character designs and what little scenes I have seen it seems very similar to shows like Ichigo Mashimaro and Yuru Yuri and I hope my expectations will be fulfilled. It's been quite a while since I last had a good time with one of these 'cute succubi doing cute things' shows.
It's not as good as those two. But then again I haven't properly enjoyed a CGDCT since NNB S2 (unless SSR last season counts) so what do I know.
Tokyo Ghoul and Alice or Alice look like the only things that might be worth watching
Mahou Shoujo Site because I hope the anime is as entertainingly bad as the manga is. The new FLCL too because the original was a nice 6 episode music video. Everything else looks like garbage, not that what I'm seeing isn't either. Just uninteresting garbage.
I enjoyed it too, some parts in the show had really shitty animation but i made it to the end and liked it.
out of all those i will probably seek out these shows
aside from these i might just try out other ones and give them a chance
Everything, as usual.
The mecha parody thing looks decent but everything is VN and slice of life bullshit that can go die in a fire.
No point wasting money animating that shit. If you're not going to use the medium for doing things you can't already do in other mediums better then don't bother. Make a sitcom for your slice of life shit.
i'm gonna try to watch all the big sequels even though i don't really like any of them. didn't think steins;gate was that great so i'm not particularly excited for 0. first season of FMP is dogshit but the kyoani seasons were spectacular, so i'm not too excited about season 4 since it's xebecs so it could go either way. really only psyched about amanchu advance, that should be fantastic.
also gonna watch golden kamuy, hinamatsuri, mahou shoujo site, piano no mori, pretty derby, and wotaku ni koi
I dropped slow start on the second ep.
Is it worth getting back into? Also citrus has picked up again.
If you like cute succubi doing cute things, yes. It's fun and the succubi are endearing.
Another anime finished: gdgd men's party. This is the kind of sequel to gdgd fairies, which was a masterpiece. Not as good as fairies, but this has enough of what's good to keep me hooked. Seiyuu candid moments, improv, just general weird crap, I really like the gdgd series.
Sora yori mo Tooi Basho ended.
This was the best thing last season. I can hear a complaint in the past that I heard from someone else; "They won't spend long in antarctica, they spent 9 fucking episodes getting there".
No, they didn't spend very long in antarctica. It went by in a flash. And the journey was longer, and full of hardships and trials, overcome step by step, until finally on antarctican ice, but it ended quickly.
Characters get arcs, closures, development, it's amazing how interwoven everything is.
Then you have the actual show itself, visually. The shots of antarctica are gorgeous, and a lot of research went into this to get the snowcats and stuff right (not that I would know…)
Man I loved this so much. Sucks to be an anime in the next 3 seasons, having to compare with this.
Best original series: Sora Yori
Best continuation: sangatsu no lion
honourable mentions: slow start, citrus, sanrio danshi, yuru camp, idolish7, toji no miko
>>26284>everything is VN and slice of life bullshit
There is literally only two VN adaptations next season.
> Still looking for a time to watch Shokugeki no Souma San no Sara
> Franxx is normalfag tier anime and ruined the mecha genre and Aldnoah.Zero which I love
> Tried to watch Mitsuboshi colors I thought it is about innocent little succubi doing things that heals a brokenan but no, actually disappointed
> confused if I would continue Mitsuboshi colors
> will try violet evergarden
> Tried Skilled Teaser Takagi san but it seemed to become boring and repetitive beginning from episode 5. Not to mention that the main characters seemed to be mostly linear. Still thinking if I will continue it
> currently watching Initial D and Kaiji
I only recently watched GDGD Fairies, I enjoyed it a lot but I feel like there's no point to watching something without the original characters in it or at least some cute succubi. I don't get why they had to make a spin-off with males instead of a sequel which a lot more people probably desired. It's similar to Teekyuu where they could have made serveral seasons and it would still be as fun as the first.>>26279>tokyo ghoul>worth watching
Nice bait, you almost got me.
I thought that people would hate the killing bites line but I've never seen a single post disliking it. They even did something cool with it in the final episode where hitomi can't say the full line, but later nomoto does.
That part where Hitomi kills him was fantastic. Although I felt it was unrealistic that she had any feelings at all for him since he was about the most worthless character in the show.
The rape scene with the announcer doing the usual animal facts part made me laugh for some reason.
l dislike that line, there, I said it.
killing bites is on some WWE shit, i don't think the people that hate it would be able to appreciate wrasslin, i.e. the people that hate it are fuckin plebs
>>26426>It's the ultimate cute succubus trash garbage. Ergo excellent
i like your thinking
Kyoani put a lot of effort into this show so I am going to put some effort into my thoughts. Firstly; I expect some extreme reactions from opinions to this show. Secondly, some context. The production quality was fucking insane, so criticisms are at a higher level than most shows; and the finer a show is polished, the more the bumps stand out. That's a good summary of what I think.
This is an exceptionally well produced anime. This is a very character driven story but the characters are actually quite shallow, and the writing is retarded in places. Especially around the action scenes, these go full retard at times and it's like being kicked in the balls while trying to savor subtle storytelling. Violet is the most explored but the narrative around her character is poorly written. (But very well produced, there's a lot of subtle elements that show violet's progression from autism to normal emotional teenager).
They should have cut out the action scenes entirely, they're completely pointless. You don't need to show that violet was an edglord killing machine (or still is) with dumb action scenes. People's reactions to her is enough for past exploits, and for modern proof you need combat effectiveness, not retardedly godly CQC, like how she'd immediately drop into grizzled soldier mode or something. Lack of realism was the biggest flaw in the action scenes, and this ate away at the realism of the emotions that I, as the viewer, was induced into feeling. And they even toned down the stupid (good move) since in the LN, Violet has a motherfucking huge axe. Like seriously, please.
Some scenes had the wrong music placed to them, which was the biggest flaw from the production angle. It was jarring. That's it production wise, production was superb.
It seems like Kyoani wanted to do some heavy emotional story about lost love in war, and found this LN and decided to adapt it without reading it first. Then they just do the best they can to de-stupid it. The result is something great, but not entering the realm of the excellent. Especially since as a character story, Violet gets less interesting the more 'normal' she gets. My favourite parts were when she started to feel all the guilt and pain she'd been blocking from her military experiences. It was all too short and got completely overwhelmed by the out-of-order love story that had scenes magically appear in the last episode explaining the entire fucking thing. As if they were later in the novel because the novel was written piecemeal and not as a cohesive whole. If I gave a shit about violet I would have really enjoyed the last episode since it was a great wrapup for her.
I liked episode 4 since it was about violet's autism in realistic situations. People at the time didn't seem to like it with the excuse "It's kyoani original", but shit nigga it's a fucking light novel.
I could go on but it's seriously worth watching, because with all this criticism it's still great.
It's just polished fine enough for the bumps to really, really stand out.
The new gundam is too odd. The whole VR mmorpg thing makes no sense and the avatars are a bizarre crash between zeon uniforms and generic fantasy rpg outfits, and furries.
The gunpla battle was ok, nothing really stand out. The characters and models were all sedate and uninteresting.
I wasn't expecting another GBF, I would have been ok with just another TRY, what is a really low bar, but now I am doubtful that it will even reach that point.
tbh i, and i think a fair number of other people, interpret gilbert's love for violet as paternal. originally it felt like it was gonna be a romance, but especially with the whole attempts at adopting her into the bougainvillea family made it seem more familial than romantic.
I didn't consider that, but it's not too important to my thoughts since that was not the bad part of the story. It was actually the best part. But since this is Japan you know that they'd have married if Gilbert had not died. Or something.
Umamusume didn't seem dystopian to me but I'm taking it kind of like toned down keijo. I don't really get the idol thing at all, or why they aren't just centaurs, but a lot of the horse related gags and little details like the shoes are at least mildly amusing.
really liked megalobox as well
The context of that world though is that there aren't any actual horses. That's what makes it weird.
Really fun. Hyper speed, dazzlingly bright colors, and it filled my quota of crying succubus screencaps within like 5 minutes. You need a seatbelt to watch this. Gotta cute fast.
Saredo Tsumibito wa Ryuu to Odoru:
It's chuuni garbage. Gun swords, bad designs, bad writing, bad characters, bad plot, bad action scenes.. The animation and voice acting are okay, so I feel a little bad for the production company making this crap.
Starts with something like "In year X, Quantum Physics was broken and the laws of thermodynamics were overturned to generate energy for free.." AND SO IT TURNS INTO DRAGON FIGHTING WITH MAGIC SWORDGUNS
I was hoping for a kind of post-scarcity science fiction, but instead got garbage. My fault for not reading the synopsis, or the title, before watching.
Akkun to Kanojo:
Tsundere male romcom. Pass.
I was planning on skipping this because it looked like another boring Kirara series but the first episode was really fun because of how fast paced and over the top it was. And Kirara series seem to work best when the characters are mentally ill (like Anne Happy) and this is the case with this series. Picked up.
I read the first few chapters a while back and completely forgot about it.
How hard is it for the average jap to become a mangaka? Being able to make money just shitting out trash doesn't seem to bad. The only time I regret not being japanese.
is it truly "edgy" or are you just wizkid memeing?
Thanks now I know the name
It depends on what you mean by "truely edgy" because it features:
>Bullies who beat the shit out of the protagonist and nearly drown her in toilets on a daily basis. They got eventually get bored of doing this and kill the stray cat she looked after and called up their friend to try and rape her
>Two bullies get killed because protagonists magical succubus shit teleported them in front of a conveniently oncoming train by accident
>Third gets killed because protagonist's soon to be friend used her time stop powers and slit her throat with the box cutter the bully was about to use to give the protagonist a glasgow smile
>Protagonist's brother beats the shit out of her to relieve stress because his father beats the shit out of him if he under performs in school
I could go on, and that's from the 1st episode alone. I could easily bring up all the shit that happens in the manga too. Like how the protagonist's friend Had her parents killed by some homeless guy and she keeps him in some stasis in order to torture him for the rest of his life or later on when The brother gets one of the magical succubus's shit and tests it out on a failed normalfag by telling him to walk into the ocean and not to stop
You may have noticed that the post above the one you quoted also told you what it was called. And called it edgy.
Just don't burn the forest 'kay!
im pleasantly surprised by caligula. hopefully the rest of the episodes are just as good
fuck netshit for ruining piano no mori
wtf do they do that in the anime?
how are you wizzies liking high school dxd hero? i think its a huge improvement over the shitfest that was born
im liking golden kamuy, i just cant get over how dumb that little ainu looks with her oversized clothing. i like the cg and bear sounds for once though, no stupid cartoony animals or human voice actors. nothing makes me rage like seeing animals (cats for example) drawn as blobs and with human voice actors going "nyaaaaa~"
Didn't feel like this needed it's own thread so I'm going to put this here. If it's ok.
Can someone please explain how the G*rls und Panzer movies are supposed to work? I get the whole plot arc and such but is there 6 parts to the finale or 6 diffrent movies
Watching Tokyo Ghoul out of curiosity , its not as bad as /a/ makes it out to be
When I finish it I'm thinking either Monster or Black Lagoon , both have been recommended here
i liked to read monster and watch black lagoon. The anime of black laggon is much better than the manga imo, a lot of work was put on animation and music. Monster anime has like 200 episodes or something
read the manga for monster, its way better. they decided to adapt a chapter an episode for the anime, so the anime is really stretched out and boring
the monster anime is good but overrated. nice atmosphere, but the pacing is really slow and, despite what fans would tell you, there is filler. the directing is mostly by-the-numbers which makes it a boring watch at times, but when it's good it's good.
i think it's considered a classic for the same reason steins;gate is, which is that's it's kind of the only anime of its genre that manages to not be terrible.
3D Kanojo: Failed Wizard Story
I'm currently catching up on the winter shows and was severely disappointed by Yuru Camp. It seemed quite well-received but it was just another case of a low-budget studio attempting to make an iyashikei show without understanding how to do this properly, those kind of studios really need to just focus on making shitty LN romcoms and leave my favourite genre alone.
The "comedy" is written like the show was actually meant for preteen succubi (zoom-ups on silly faces, wacky conversations), the MC is constantly animated in CG when on a bike and I cannot fucking stand CG unless it's used for a proper reason, 2D animation is barely present and close-ups/flashbacks are often used to cover up this fact.
I have never been this mad while watching a show that's supposed to relax you. I know I'm going to get shit for stating this like I always do because you're not allowed to see a popular show for what it truly is just because it's popular, even on this site.
It's possible that people just don't understand why you'd think that way.
I, for example, don't understand either.
thanks for making these wizzie, its helpful to take into consideration when choosing what to watch
After doing some research this is a mobage franchise promotional anime, all the characters are based off of actual racehorses
I have to say, after watching the first episode of Steins;Gate 0 I was pretty impressed. I didn't come into it with high expectations but maybe they'll actually pull it off.
I agree and in my opinion Yama no Susume did it much better, putting more soul, interesting characters and technical aspect in a 3 minute episode. Also better animation.
mc of caligula is very wizardly
how are you wizzies enjoying darling in the franxx? i think its been pretty good so far. episodes 9-11 were mediocre but that was just to stay faithful to eva and 6 was a bit of a letdown
It's okay. Not awful or outstanding so I'll finish it at least. Where it goes from ep 14 may change that though.
It's trash made for teenager normalfags.
The sloppy writing and the teeny, excessive soap dramas really bring it down. The romance and lead waifu are nice, but that's really all it has going for it. A big disappointment so far.
Not watching it, got tired of trigger stuff halfway through LWA. Feels too much like how I remember western stuff being, and I can't stand that. I still like their earlier stuff but I haven't worked up the will to see the new one.
that sounds like most anime.
I am indifferent about it. I just hope the animation quality in action scenes gets a little better (always something I like) and that the tits and ass physics/animation get a little more active then last session.
My thoughts are he should get back to fura doujinshi already
>>27182>he's going to play a bigger role than other site admins.
Spoilers from the manga. He ends up getting beat by his sister's friends and a cop working with the site admins turns him into his sex slave until he manages to kill them and falls into a coma or something in the hospital
Anime could be different. And it'd benefit because he's the most entertaining character by far.
I honestly don't understand how you even sit through all the garbage that airs every season. Is it just a matter of having standards so low that you are willing to watch anything as long as it has movement and sound? Funny thing is that when I see people, be it here or on a normalfag site, describe their "enjoyment" of seasonal shows they always say stuff like "well it's not good or enjoyable but I'll sit through it anyway" as if they realise it's all shit but they're addicted to it so they just can't stop.
I'd prefer to say that I do have standards, they're just low. It's not so much a case of wanting to see the next episode most of the time, it's more a case of not wanting to not see the next episode. If that makes sense.
Me either. I could never get into anime.
Then why the fuck are you in this thread?
Because I saw that wizards post and wanted to reply to it. Duh.
I don't get it either, I drop things towards the end if I feel the need to, usually around first or second episode.
I tried watching older series and cult classics but 99% of the time I'm like pic rel.
I think you enjoy anime up to the point you've seen all the cliches all those shows rely on.
Or maybe you start enjoying anime once you find the recurring cliches you enjoy and learn to pick out the shows that will feature them at a very high probability.
I'm the guy who talks about everything, and basically I'm adding a 'why I dropped x' section at the end of seasons (memory dependent…) because of mahou shoujo edge.
To Be Hero, it's a chinese anime that got dubbed. There's the second season which has no relation so far to the first season To Be Heroine airing now.
The series formula is that it alternates between whacky humor that can only be called random and serious elements. I liked it. It's amateur in a lot of ways, it feels like they have two entirely different shows and decided they would cut them together because they thought that would work.
I don't know what the chinese were thinking when they made it. Mostly every joke revolves around the characters appearance rather than anything else. Second season has the same problems but the serious side of the series seems a little more interesting this time.
I'm waiting for your follow-up post.
In the end i didn't drop it and I'm expecting another season. "Our" comic relief character gets ass-blasted and samurai grill makes new memes. Even though the cliffhanger which was succubi becoming "good" was disappointing. It was on a level comparable to shounen anime like naruto or dragon ball. The power of yuri love compelled the mind-control of Evil Kween…
Stein's gate had meh ending but at least now they're promising worldwide war 3 in the next season.
Fumikiri Jikan didn't disappoint so far. Boku no waifu academia had a nice reveal in the end. Nothing surprising and i have no idea where will the story go next but it was fun to watch.
This show is by far my favorite this season and a solid 75% of the reasoning is all the voicework.
Started fantastic, stayed great. Got just a little worse as it went on. Each episode was masterfully made, but the plot dragged it down just a little. Ippo style 'get hit for 6 rounds and then hit them once and win' fights were far too numerous. The last episode was good because it removed the internal contradiction in logic behind the gear. If they're supposed to give you more power, having Joe take hits is retarded. This is the only flaw, however. The rest is actually fantastic. There are so many themes and subtexts running through this, as well as trope subversion. For example, joe steals a super prototype gear, and the obvious hint is that he'll use it becuase his old gear broke - and then he just breaks it right away. Also the OP is stellar. The direction is fantastic, stuff is skipped if it needs to be, damn. It takes a lot of work to get the old shading style too, and they did it justice. I don't want to say this is great too many times, as I know that turns people off of things. But all you'll need is the first episode.
Yes this is the same image three times
Is this only for seasonal anime? I'm 40 minutes into Koe no Katachi and I honestly don't know if I should keep watching. I expected the entire movie to be what happened in the first 20 minutes.
what the fuck, I though it's older than that. Of course I'm dropping it, I was under the impression it's something older.
>i havent watched the original
you lost all my respect in 1 second
is it anything like Kaiji?
Shit, LoGH got a remake? I watched the original in 2013, I wouldn't mind to revisit it as it was THE anime that made me very harsh for everything that followed if the quality wasn't top-notch.
This was really pretty fantastic especially the setting and inclusion of ainu culture. I found the poop gag to be kind of unfunny but I can see why they included it. More creepy pedo vibes unfortunately though. It's like Japan is incapable of writing stories without romantic elements between grown adults and little succubi.
Oddly this is the only anime that I absolutely loved that I've never finished. I basically lost interest as soon as the enemy was vanquished and the conquest was complete which happens like halfway through and just kind of forgot about it. I bet the second half is just as good though and I'm glad I still have it to watch.
Not in the slightest.
This could have been great but it was just too fucking retarded. I tried to be as credulous as I could but I just couldn't do it. It's like they took all the retarded parts of Ippo and dialed it up to 11. I hate anime where I have to suspend my disbelief to enjoy them. Maybe if the whole point of gear was to make your punches super weak it might have made sense. I mean that fight where he gets beat up and doesn't manage to land a single punch the entire fight and then literally drops his hands and takes multiple unblocked punches to the face from a guy wearing an exoskeleton that supposedly makes you stronger and then magically KOs him with the first shot he was able to land
was just fucking stupid. Yuri taking off his gear and betraying Yukiko for the sake of his ego
was dumb as shit, and the ending sucked major dick. Most of the fights themselves were pretty boring, come to think. I might have enjoyed the homage to Ashita no Joe more if I was more of a fan, but I ended up dropping Ashita no Joe not that far in because I thought it was pretty low quality. Overall I'd give Megalo Box a 7.
People were really soured by the last episode it seems. I mean one thing you need to take into context is that when I say something is good I'm comparing it against the entire season, not just the other stuff I didn't drop. So like shit like island, Kakuriyo no Yadomeshi, Saredo Tsumibito wa Ryuu to Odoru, and other complete garbage shit that really is atrocious. Compared to that Megalo box just suffers from a dumb plot.
>>27562>but I ended up dropping Ashita no Joe not that far in because I thought it was pretty low quality
Same, I hated how loud and obnoxious the show was.
I expected nothing and I'm still disappointed. To start with, the plot is entirely predictable and I called most of the episode. Secondly, it has basically what I'm going to term; VN stank. It feels like an adapted VN instead of an actual story. I'd say it was kinda okay, except that they decided to end the first episode on a reveal type ending: "If I go into the sunlight I'll die" and then the ED shows her in the sun. I get that it's a lie because she's uncomfortable outside or has issues or some shit but don't make it a end-episode revelation and then spoil it in the fucking ED. An attempt was made. The direction is kinda dull like they're going through the motions.
I'll start by saying that the visual direction here is excellent. You can throw money at the visuals and have them animated well, and that's what happened here too. But good direction is priceless. Music works well, too. Technically this is really fantastic. Also sweating anime succubi. Here's the butt. Anyway this is a alternate reality version of sweaty ping pong succubi where they take themselves more seriously. There's some drama, but it's cut up by comedy relief scenes so that it doesn't get too overbearing. And the drama isn't intercharacter drama, it's personal drama. No misunderstandings or other bullshit, just fundamental concerns that characters have about themselves that affect how they treat those around them and what they do. It's really good. Ping Pong the animation handles the subject matter almost overwhelmingly better though, but if I'm comparing it to ping pong the animation it's doing something right. Has lots of sweaty succubi = I was sold in the first 30 seconds.
This triggers /k/. It's fujoshit but there's a half interesting backstory thrown in, and they're using flintlocks as they were the only guns left to fight the NWO with. This is the only positive sentence I have. This is hilariously awful. I had to make a webm of this garbage.
Why is this getting posted repeatedly?
summer 2018 is off to a terrible start, the only shows worthwhile shows so far is yama no susume s3 and badmintiddies.
island had good marketing to trick people into watching it. tonegawa could be decent but the first half of the first episode was just recap. back street succubi is horrendously low budget.
Satsuriku no Tenshi:
I have no idea what is going on. Supposed to be spooky I think. Seems like a VM adaptation or some shit. That said, it's not isekai, it's not set in a japanese highschool, it's not fujoshit. Going to continue watching this mostly because of what it is not, rather than what it is, which isn't ideal. succubus wakes up in spoop house and survives, kind of. I don't fucking know but when a bird bleeds way more blood than it could possibly have contained you know someone is trying too hard.
Simple and pleasing. Is very focused on what makes it interesting, an we all know what that is. Even trying to ignore the visuals, there's some skill in the production, as it's just set out very traditional sports anime fare. I like the eye tints.
Chio-chan no Tsuugakuro:
I read the manga so I'm biased here but I thought the adaptation was a fun adaptation. Captures the spirit of the original and the voice acting gives it another level which is nice. Definitely one to watch this season, it's a load of fun.
You have such a love for garbagefire other-world harem shit that it makes me wonder.
Isekai is just a platform around which the trash I usually enjoy is built around. 3 years ago it'd be the same shit but in a highschool instead of the late bronze age. Or maybe a magic school with a battle-harem protagonist.
Couldn't get into BC because the MC's voice grates on my ears like poprocks poured directly on the eardrum.
The first episode was really great but it looks like it could become stale. Though the joke with the teacher tasting the water was the most I'd laughed at an anime in a very long time.
>>27589>Extremely cheap but there's some fun content there underneath
Not enough fun imo. Looks like a generic run of the mill fast paced slapstick comedy.>>26484>my 2nd favorite stupid and hilariously edgy manga
What's the 1st one!? I think I'm hooked on the edge.>>27619>MC's voice grates on my ears
That's the point. He is supposed to be grotesquely optimistic, happy-go-lucky kiddo who is a "Zero To Hero" trope. I know it's dumb but i always crack a smile when he yells "sister!". I dropped it after 10 episodes or so anyway.
>>27637>That's the point.
There have been hundreds of characters just like him without sounding like a oil-less engine running on ethanol.
It being Chinese the gay will be subdued, subtle, and most confined to making the men overly attractive.
Happy Sugar Life:
Took me a while to figure out what the fuck this was. Succubus described as having a 'revolving door of men' kidnaps a little succubus and holds her in her house. This is pretty depressing. This leaves me with a nasty feeling, which is neat. Would have been improved by having a less edgy OP and pre-OP, so the tonal shift would have more impact. But I actually like this a lot, it's got a weird feeling throughout and it has a great contrast within itself to highlight both extremes. Totally check this out.
Shoujo Kageki Revue Starlight:
Ballet, huh? Animation is good, characters are fun, direction is good. The succubi are fun and have energy, and the show itself is lively with interesting visuals. High budget. Needs deeper characters. With a deeper focus on a fewer number of characters, the extremely impressive action scenes would have more impact and meaning. I'm impressed by this but if they don't develop the characters, all the flair, symbolism, design, etc etc is just meaningless.
Sirius the Jaeger:
Only heavily watermarked trashsubs available. Eh, vampires. Vampires are dumb and edgy. Luckily it portrays vampires as disgusting monsters that need to be destroyed. Era is like 1930's Japan, which is cool. Overall this is pretty damn good. Super solid action.
What anime this season is worth watching? I normally just watch 80’s mecha but last season I made an attempt to watch some spring 2018 anime but I was too depressed and dropped it all even the ones I liked and went back to watching mecha
if you have "high standards" (i.e. you're more skeptical of seasonals) there's probably not much for you, but there's actually a lot of decent/interesting shows this summer. planet with, revue starlight, hataraku saibou, asobi asobase, hanebado, grand blue, and banana fish have all had pretty good starts. all the ones i've listed are all relatively diffeernt from each other, so if your taste isn't too specific, you might find something you like among those.
Try 霞外籠逗留記, 紅殻町博物誌 or 信天翁航海録.
But those are VNs.
Planet With is written by the Lucifer and Biscuit Hammer/Spirit Circle mangaka, adapts his style too. It's fairly formulaic but I still really enjoyed it because it's well done formulaic.
Beyond that Hanebado! is impressive in a lot of respects. I think it's the best anime this season without contest, like I doubt that even the directors/creators would want their underfunded low talent work compared to Hanebado!'s ambition. It's better quality than most anime movies so far.
If you liked Gabriel Dropout then Jashin-chan is the exact same thing.
Angolmois is a fairly straight historical war fantasy with mongols, but I think the best part about it has to be the sound design. Crisp weapon sounds, they did a really good job on those and it helps the violence scenes matter.
>>27675>Shoujo Kageki Revue Starlight
This is probably one of my favorites so far this season. I only wish there wasn't the whole debacle going on with the subbing. I've grown too comfy with getting my subs the day a show releases. I guess it will motivate me in my Nihongo studies
Pretty sure you have to make a quota in shounen.
I don't think this particular one counts, though.
This is exactly why i dropped it. Starting from the first episode (tall succubi in latex) it is nothing but butts, tits and occasional fights. Fuck this shit.
I guess anime isn't for you.
I like anime and I can enjoy seeing tits and asses, but it is not the right kind of anime for it. It is a motherfucking shonen for kids and I expected it to be without borderline ecchi bullshit.
I may give it another try though
>>27838>shounen>without borderline ecchi
Didn't the first episode of Naruto feature him turning into a stark naked succubus?
I just found out there's a new attack on titan season, and one from last year. Do they finally start revealing the history of the titans? Or is it the same old boring action filler and melodrama shit? I fell for the normie hype once, I don't wanna do it again.
They revealed the mystery of the titans in the manga a while ago. If your care it's some shit like Humans exist outside the wall and everyone inside the walls are descendants of a titan race or some shit
well I don't read manga, and don't spoil the secret for me goddamn it
If you hovered over the spoiler after I said "If you care" then that's your damn problem.
hovered over what?
You're complaining about me spoiling something so I assume you hovered over the spoilered text that contained said spoiler.
>the spoilered text
I seriously have no idea what you're talking about now.
You've missed the point.
You are retarded
Don't know what "style and script options" means. I've never seen blacked out text here. Really weird.
Either you're trolling or something weird is going on with your browser.
>>27873>hey revealed the mystery of the titans in the manga a while ago.
I stopped caring about it year(s) ago. It turned into political soap opera. [spoiler]They overthrew the king and then story lost its pace.[spoiler/] Did Annie got released from her glass cocoon in prison finally? If so, when? I might resume reading it.
the first titans brainwashed humanity by erasing their memories (by touching them) or something>>27908
I really wasn't expecting to like it that much. The scene backgrounds(especially coffee house scene with the writing on the wall) and voice acting were amazing. Such a simple setup but really well executed, especially that enabler relationship with Medusa. Not enough Cow though, I grew attached to her HEALTHY over the course of the season.
Doesn't seem like it's something that can get a season 2, but it felt a bit more mature than Gabriel Dropout so I'll come back to it in a few years to enjoy it again.
I wonder if the timing is somehow related to that upcoming game about the same period.
I pay absolutely zero attention to these things.
I kept reading people saying this was like naruto. I just started watching it and jesus, I know what they mean. It's like they just made a shitty low-effort knock off of naruto with a few other things drawn from other popular shounen. It's so horribly uninspired and literally every aspect of it is worse than naruto even though it's basically the same show underneath.
I just finished watching a video claiming that this show was probably the worst isekai ever made.
And looking at some of the art and the quality of animation I have to agree it looks like total garbage from a animation perspective. I haven't actually watched it so I won't comment on how well the plot is executed or how good/bad the writing is.
It is a hard skip for me. It isn't interesting enough for me to get over the shit animation.
You seem to have some missunderstanding of what isekai means.
It doen't have to be a game/rpg based world.
Also reading through the wiki, no that shit ain't even remotely close to historically accurate on any level. It is a fantasy world with fantasy bullshit going on just like any other fantasy based show. To say it is in anyway historically accurate is probably the funniest thing I have read all night.
It is 100% a isekai
And from every indication it is 100% trash. I just don't feel like watching it to confirm.
You seem to have thoroughly misunderstood my post.
When I say that Valkyria is 'hot isekai garbage' I mean that it is isekai, and it is garbage.
When I say it's 'historically accurate' It's literally in the same sentence as 'Magic is real'. Magic isn't real.
The earrape was real in first several episodes, then they toned it down somewhat.
Shoujo Kageki Revue Starlight:
This was a very artistic and ambitious creation, and it mostly succeeded in its lofty ambitions, which is remarkable. I think its biggest mis-step (hard to call it a flaw) is that it tried to introduce the revues and the characters in the same first episode. As a result I was particularly confused for the first 4-5 episodes, and didn't have much engagement with the characters. Especially since the revues themselves contain EXTREME amounts of symbolism, and tie into the real world pretty heavily. Overall; it's great. It gets a bit of a clusterfuck at times, but visually it's great, the singing is great (using actual theatre actors, apparently), the characters.. felt a little flat at first, it took a while for them to round out as people rather than 'this is the posh one', 'these are the childhood friends', etc. The story could have had more weight to it, I think. The characters are forced to fight and betray each other for the amusement of a giraffe ("confused for the first 4-5 episodes") but there's little sense of loss from the characters. At least until near the end, of course. And that's the parts I like the most. Another thing I thought was a negative was that the character interactions felt kinda weird. As if they were a bit cold and shallow, like strangers interacting. Weakened the impact of the story in my view. Probably could have done with a little less symbolism too, since it was overwhelming. It's overwhelming because storytelling is done mostly through the visuals, characters, and what is happening. So the symbolism being overwhelming kinda obscures the story a bit. One thing I loved is that there was no infodump. There was no part where they felt like they had to sit the audience down and baby them with what was going on in these succubus's lives. You almost expect that from anime. Like one of them pulls out a smartphone and rattles off a wikipedia page about urban legends or some shit. None of that shit, thank god. Many things are better shown than explained. Overall, I think you should force yourself to watch this. Even if you don't really like it, the spectacle is worth seeing alone.
I couldn't stomach the platelets. It just seemed like such a fucking hollow attempt to touch my heart strings/dick, and then seeing the internet explode with platelet fan art just soured me on the whole goddamn thing.
First thought you said palettes, and if that was the case I agree with every single word. What's the correct general name for the bloom, gloss, very thin contours and lowered contrast, the most common 2010s graphic style? I really wish they stopped applying so much of it.
I'm surprised by the quality of the animation a bit. Obviously it's a little too early to say for sure, since all we've seen is a blue blob and a dragon, but there are immediate and obvious differences when compared to other isekai shows. Deathmarch, Smartphone, and Valkyria all looked cheap as shit from word go.
I've read the manga in the past, and I can say it's pretty good, albeit predictable. It's what you'd expect, but done in an alright way? Another functionally identical manga is about a guy that reincarnates into a goblin (Re:Monster), for example, and by comparison it's night and day. The goblin dude has the same "skill steal" shit, but spends the majority of the time fucking every single succubus in his vicinity. If that manga ever gets a show, isekai will have been beaten to death several times over. The slime is functionally sexless. Even when he gets a human (female) body, his genitals are non-existent. Just smooth skin. I don't remember very many harem scenes, either.
Hopefully, this one is alright.
There's only one fantasy show with "slime" in its title this season.
Watched the first episode of the isekai slime anime and this made me laugh.
>>28256>platelet fan art
I mean, you gotta admit, that's kinda crazy that it can even be considered existent.
That was the worst part of isekai slime for me. It was like "Damn those shitposting years sure went to good use" and then out of nowhere there was "Skill gain: Shitposting"
Not really. Japan anthropomorphizes the most stupid shit all the time that it's really become mundane.
yeah the skillgiver thingy is too obvious of a deus ex machina. It's literally just like a magic genie with unlimited wishes.
Here's all the anime I've watched that aired in 2018:
Shingeki no Kyojin
3-gatsu no lion
Shokugeki No Souma
Isekai Maou to Shoukan Shoujo no Dorei Majutsu
2018 anime I dropped:
Ancient Magus' Bride
Sora yori mo Tooi Basho
Houseki no Kuni
Shingeki no Kyojin was pretty boring, it definitely lost a lot of the charm of season 1 but everything else that I didn't drop I liked a lot. Goldeny Kamuy is probably the best of the shows from what I've seen. It has the most unique setting, characters, and plot. I feel like I barely have the energy to watch anime these days so shows like overlord that are just light and fun are actually really appealing because it takes no energy or effort to follow the plot but it's still fun. The Ancient Magus' bride turned out to be a fantasy for succubus to imagine a super magical chad being in love with them for no reason so I dropped it. Sora yori mo tooi basho was just boring as fuck and I dropped houseki no kuni the instant one succubus found out her friend had been turned into a slug and her reaction was to give her a ribbon. The characters in the show just act retarded. I know they're not supposed to be human but then they should have made them actually alien instead of just uncanny valley human school succubi who act retarded about certain things for no reason.
Other than what I've seen what stands out to you as one of the best shows of the year? There's just so much out there I don't know what to watch next.
I loved Overlord as well. Arguably my favorite anime. Can anyone recommend me other anime like that?
You should undrop Houseki no Kuni. Gems are actually just dumb, but that's part of the plot and it really matters later.
Can an entire country become Flanderized?
>>28390>Can an entire country become Flanderized?
Hetalia is a thing so yes.
sword art online (bad), Isekai Maou to Shoukan Shoujo no Dorei Majutsu (bad, ecchi), Tensei shitara Slime Datta Ken (alright, currently airing), Goblin slayer (good, currently airing), Youjo Senki (good, set in 20th century).
What the hell is this banshee wailing? Oh it's cheerleading. After pretty much no cute succubus things last season there's so many this season. This is cute and colourful, and is pretty standard. We'll see if this bores me in the later episodes. The music is pretty bad actually.
Imagine being sold in the first 3 seconds. It's all downhill from there though. It's like falling down a flight of stairs. Well the title isn't misleading, so take that in mind. Give it at least 3 minutes 30 seconds. This gives me the idea that I need to make a bingo sheet for new seasons. This'd give me a bingo. Here we go: Highschool, isekai, magic, abduction, dumb fights, katana, superpowered katana, talking mascot character, ikemen, dumb anime clothing, RPG world, Demon lord, chuuni, chosen one(s), harem,
All this said, I'm totally watching this because I want it keep falling down those stairs until I reach the basement. The MC isn't a beta faggot which is a first. One warning though; the chosen one's mission is to literally impregnate 12 preistesses. This is very funny to me.
Looks like a studio's first go at an anime. It's okay. Not sure if I care or not, but it looks good and the story is put together if cliched.
Youjo Senki is unironically the worst one among those you mentioned.
Shame, it's quite fun. Nothing worth catching in particular though, unless you'd enjoy an anime about a ruthless commander.
"Awful and lazy" as well as "empty" and "dumb" can also be said about its story, setting and characters.
All in all it's a meme anime that became somewhat popular only because of the edgelord loli main character. Whoever is seriously calling it "good" is either a poltard-type or a hardcore lolicon.
zombieland saga ep2 was so much fun. I don't want to spoil it, but if you watch nothing else this season at least watch ep2.
Idk, my main issue with the show is that everything just seems so fake and unrealistic for the purpose of creating a highly stylized narrative. I like realistic settings and societies that I can believe actually formed spontaneously. Nothing about a bunch of multicolored gem succubi in schoolgirl outfits fighting random hordes of space aliens that appear in the sky only to be easily defeated seems even slightly plausible. I tried to be as credulous as I could but frankly I couldn't stomach that setting for more than three episodes.
That's a shame. There's a beautiful existential character landscape intertwined with the overly mystical plot.
it was a mistake putting my subjective opinion at the end of the list. i'm just a sucker for 20th century wars.
You're not the only person who liked that part. WW1 didn't happen, but the Vickers come out and there's an aerial component with the mages. It's fairly neat.
I take back what I said.
Turns out the trailer I watched was bad but when I decided to give the show a chance I really enjoyed it alot.
It overall is pretty good.
The lesson I'd learn from this is never watch trailers. I've gone one step further and I don't read the synopsis of shows before watching them either. I barely even read the title. For me these are all sources of bias and I look back and every season there are gems I'd have missed if I didn't watch things because of a trailer or whatever.
Why are you quoting my post (>>28405
) saying you "take it back"?
I watched the show and it IS bad. The lazy unimaginative """alt.history""" setting coupled with cardboard characters and an annoying (and overpowered "just because") protagonist is anything but "good", unless one is weak for this particular kind of aesthetics, as >>28416
already admitted. Or doesn't care about anything as long as there's a loli on the screen. But this is not a SoL nor comedy, this show takes itself seriously while being outright ridiculous.
Remove the protagonist (or turn him into an adult man instead of a loli) and you'll see how you instantly lose interest.
I enjoyed it for similar reason that I enjoyed Code Geass and honestly the shows are both really similar in a lot of ways.
If anything of the two shows it is actually a lot better then Geass in most ways imo.
I would also disagree with your assessments, it isn't lazy or unimaginative in its setting and it in fact does its world building fairly well so far. The the characters are interesting and not "cardboard" at all, and the protag didn't come off as annoying at all. I will agree he/she isn't "good". He/She is lawful evil, which is part of the fun of the show.
No, "copy-paste Europe and add a bit of magic" is not a "fairly good world building" by any definition. It only indicates a lack of imagination and effort from the authors. Especially given that this thing has already been done multiple times in other franchises. That also pertains to the kind of magic made in this show and the way of using it on the battlefield, since it's pretty much a direct copy from Strike Witches and the like, zero personal imagination.
I can also nitpick some particulars:
If the demiurge wanted to punish that fedoratipping salaryman why would he give him those exceptional magic powers? The idea was to make him despair and become pious out of fear, so if he wasn't reborn as a genius he would only be able to win by embracing death which would be a hard fit for a rational down-to-earth norman.
Why would a mostly traditionalist society like early 20th century Germany allow a loli into military (to say nothing of generals), regardless of how "gifted" she was? The show could skip some time until she's older, but nooo they needed a loli on the battlefield because otherwise nobody would be watching this piece of crap.
Why do the weapons of the magic users look like actual German rifles of the period when it is even explicitly stated that they are in fact a kind of wands? Why would the pragmatic German military-industrial complex waste time and resources to make what is essentially magic-focusing rods into replicas of rifles used by generic infantry? But nooo, it would be way harder for ミリオタs to cum their panties otherwise.
The list can go on.
But of course all of this would be fine(-ish) if the show didn't take itself so seriously, which it unfortunately does.
Why would anyone use mechs especially when air suport is a thing?
Near future japan sci-fi with bits of magic has been done since the 70s
Why did CC do anything she did in the show?
You get where I am going with this.
Most of your criticisms are pretty shallow and come down to you taking issue with the style of show it is rather then more objective qualities.
At the end of the day it doen't matter anyway. If you can't for whatever reason enjoy the show then I guess that sucks for you. I had a blast watching it.
Hey, I like this show too, thanks for mentioning it. I actually found the first episode funnier but the second was great too.
>>28430>Why would anyone use mechs especially when air suport is a thing?
Because they are highly versatile units. If highly efficient alternative sources of fuel (which are usually featured in mecha anime) existed IRL, something similar to mechas would probably be created.
But I'm not a mechafag or even a sci-fi fan, so I won't argue about that.>Why did CC do anything she did in the show?
I watched Geass too long ago to remember the details and I'm not a fan of that show. If I were I sure as heck wouldn't discuss it with someone who unironically compares it to seasonal one-shots like Youjo Senki, and in favour of the latter no less.>Most of your criticisms are pretty shallow and come down to you taking issue with the style of show it is rather then more objective qualities.
What "objective qualities"? The show utterly failed to provide any engaging story or in-depth world-building despite pretending to be serious and shit. Everything is held together by the edgelord protagonist who is also the show's fetish-focus. Remove her and everything falls apart, because nothing is even worth remembering there - all the other characters are one-dimensional, all the drama forced, all the fantasy aspects dull and unimaginative. And to top everything off the show had a gay "to (never) be continued" open ending.
All in all the whole thing felt like watching a loud angry kid in flashy clothes playing in a sandbox alone.>I had a blast watching it.
Oh, I'm perfectly fine with that. Don't get me wrong, I was just triggered that it was brought up as an example of "good isekai" and put in line with actually good (or at least decently watchable) fantasy shows.
Bad world building isn't an objective quality folks. If you see another copy paste medieval Tolkien fantasy, "It's uninspired and derivative and does nothing unique to stand out," is not an actual criticism apparently.
It's more important to pay attention to what the creator did with the copypaste setting rather than the fact it's copypaste. There's a lot of just generic backgrounds, and it's the development of them that makes things different from each other. Besides, if copypaste worlds bothers you, anime might not be the best thing to watch. 50% is set in a highschool, 40% is set in an fantasy RPG world, and the last 10% is 'Misc'
>>28440>it's the development of them that makes things different from each other
Exactly. And I wasn't complaining about variety here. I'm also of the opinion that that "delivery" is more important than originality in anime. So, it's absolutely fine for a setting to be inspired by things or resembling them to an extent, as long as there is at least an attempt to mix something in in order to produce at least a slightly different flavour. So, speaking of 20th century Europe, a perfect example of an actually good setting derived from it would be Valkyria Chronicles - clearly European aesthetics yet enough additions and alterings to make it into a viable fantasy. Youjo Senki on the other head is among those shows that offer nothing but copypaste and even that is sloppily delivered. In fact, the premise of a demiurge sending a fedoratipper to "suffer" (yeah, by giving him superpowers, lol) into a war-torn slightly edited past is the only thing close to attempt at originality or artistic effort in it.
If you did something interesting with it, then it wouldn't be getting called out for being derivative garbage.
>anime might not be the best thing to watch
I haven't actively watched it for a few years now. Youjo Senki was some of the last garbage I saw (and dropped)
>>28441>actually good setting>Valkyria Chronicles
It's literally !Europe except everyone's fighting over !unobtanium. It's just as bad as YS.
Nope, it has entirely different history, ethnic composition, geographic terrain (literally a sandy desert around where Belarus would be irl), political map, uniforms, weapons, etc.
Valkyrian architecture is also completely otherworldly/fantasy-esque.
It has enough to stand on its own.
That's why I called it !Europe, they essentially "reskin" (like 'different' zombie apocalypse stories where zombies are called like rotties and rotties are different from regular zombies because of [insert gimmick]) a bunch of things to make it appear different than the dumbed down !WWII retelling with magic it actually is. And giant random desert/tundra/etc placed randomly onto !Europe without regards to if it geographically makes sense is one of the top indicators of shit worldbuidling.
It might be "shit" in absolute sense if you compare it with worlds built from scratch, but it is definitely better than just mindless "alt.history" copy-paste.
Even FMA world had its nations bear resemblance to certain rl ethnicities despite having a completely own geography. As one wiz above said, it is dumb to expect total originality from anime, but whenever there is at least an effort to make such it should be appreciated.
>>28447>it is definitely better than just mindless "alt.history" copy-paste
Except that's practically what it is.
>Even FMA world had its nations bear resemblance to certain rl ethnicities
FMA's worldbuilding went deeper than just changing a names around and adding in magic. And I'm not saying every fantasy world in fiction has to be built from the ground up like Middle Earth, hell if the story/gameplay were actually good I'd even excuse it. But it's not. VC has a shitty story and mediocre gameplay while YS is just shit that gets praised because crazy loli protagonist.
>whenever there is at least an effort to make such it should be appreciated.
Being derivative isn't making an effort, and making an effort means fuck all if you still fuck up.
Well, I agree with your way of thinking, but you take it a little too far imo. With such unreasonably heightened standards it's hardly possible to enjoy anime at all (although you did say you stopped actively watching it, so everything makes sense).
How did I "take it too far"? I don't even have high standards. If a story's competent and well executed I'll give it a pass. If it's bad, then I'll say it is.
In my opinion you are being unreasonably harsh on Valk.
I'm not, but whatever.
Something being similar to something else doesn't make it bad by default. >>28437>he thinks mechs, especially big mechs like in Geass, are in any way practical
LOL> I was just triggered
but seriously all of the problems you have with the show are ether debatable or personal preference related. You getting this asspained over someone saying it is good is a little silly.
For example what is or isn't a "engaging story" seems to come down to taste. Obviously the people who enjoyed it found it engaging. >it dosn't have in death world building
So the homebrew politics, alt-countries, detail national policies, military structure, tactics, semi-detailed magical system, alternative technological system, and culture that all fit together in a coherent fashion isn't in-depth to you? I think there is a lot of depth and creativity that you are glossing over or discounting simply because you dislike other unrelated elements of the show.
Manly the tone and the protag.
It does when it's completely uninspired and worse than what it's trying to copy.
It doesn't appear to be full on copying anything and it is far more creative and well constructed they you are willing to give it credit for.
Copying was the wrong word, more so using common archetypes and using them in a worse way than normal.
Also>willing to give credit for
If there was anything to give credit for, I would. There isn't, so I didn't.
Any examples of what you are talking about?>>28470
And now you are just being a jackass for no reason.
If we're talking about flying military succubi with magic guns then at least Strike Witches and Shuumatsu no Izetta already did that before. If we are talking about early/middle 20th century Europe setting, there are tons of titles. Just the hilarious fact that you compare YS to Geass of all things indicates that you simply haven't got enough baggage to make sound comparisons. This is not /a/ and not a place to call out newfags, but seriously - at least seek out and watch more anime with "military" tag if you really care that much and want to sound competent on this particular subgenre.
Is some nigga ITT really trying to argue that yojou senki is better than code geass? What the fuck is wrong with him
I'm only 5 episodes in, but so far Grancrest Senki seems pretty similar.
Code geass wasn't that good either, so it's not the worst argument. Besides, the argument is that Code Geass had less lazy world building. Which isn't clear cut either since you can't really get more lazy than Britannia. Not that I'm defending either as not lazy, I like both. Code Geass because that dumb world is the background for a pretty funny keikaku thriller, and Senki because it's a loli ordering artillery barrages on civilians. They're both reasonably good.
I compared them because thematically they are similar despite being ascetically divergent.
You are overly hung up on superficial visual similarities shared among huge genres yet fail to see the things that actually make something derivative in story or characters.
>If we are talking about early/middle 20th century Europe setting, there are tons of titles.
Nice trying to over generalize what is actually a fairly unique setting, which is a completely alt-history version of Europe focused on the alt-not German side around the lead up to world war 1 with a few very important changes that are followed to their logical conclusion. Details matter yet you intentionally ignore them to play up the superficial similarities between shows that on closer inspection aren't similar at all.
In context a lot of normies walked into the show blind and got triggered hard because they have the mental durability of a small child.
It is mainly crunchyroll's fault because of the way they advertised the show and gave it a rating of G because apparently they don't even look up or watch the shows they stick up on their website, and apparently snowflakes and casuals really do need content warning.
Still, the drama around the show is pretty funny and yeah, the show isn't that
It's a pretty cosy fantasy adventure goblin slaying thing.
Honestly I was a little disappointed because someone IRL described it to me as what would happen if Doom Guy was isekai'ed to a generic fantasy land and instead of demons his beef was with goblins.
Obviously that is not what the show it. I mean it is still ok, but no where near as cool as what I though I was getting due to someone exaggerating.

Anime is starting to end for this season so I'm thinking of making a new thread.
If there are no objections I'll make one tomorrow.
