What are you watching?

What are you looking forward to next season?

Watching Pop Team Epic and that's it. Might try Darling in the whatever and Violet Evergarden to see if it lives up to all the praise it's getting. Which I doubt.

YuruCamp has made me want to go to Japan even more, just like that Japanwiz did, and homelessly roam the land.

I decided to pick up Violet Evergarden, Koi wa Ameagari no You ni, Citrus, Beatless and Darling in the Franxx. Franxx is my favorite so far and VEG hasn't really delivered for me too much yet, though it is nice to look at. It could never live up to the overhype that it was given. The only anime I've dropped so far is Beatless. Next season I'm looking forward to Golden Kamuy and Steins;Gate 0 and a few others

Is Franxx really that good or is it just standard Trigger hype? The description doesn't really appeal to me.
Anyway Yuru Camp, Ryuuou no Shigoto and Sora yori mo Tooi Basho are all contending for my personal AOTS. Good season imo.

Normalfags and low power-level failed normalfag types seem to really enjoy Franxx. For the record it's very unwizardly thematically. The hentai and ecchi on pixiv is pretty good, though.

Started watching fate extra last encore, its a lot different from the game.

>For the record it's very unwizardly thematically
99.9% of everything in this world is

The good news about Franxx is that 'here's your controller bro' NEVER gets old

I've been enjoying mitsuboshi colors.

I'm surprised I'm saying this but Fate/Extra has potential even though the first two episodes were a bit average. They've set it up so the story could go in a completely different direction to anything Fate so far. Nasu is also apparently very involved in the writing process and he has gotten better as a writer since Fate/Tsukihime days. I think it will either be really great or really shit, it's not gonna be average.

It has had its ups and downs so far. The last few episodes have been pretty great in my opinion, but I might just have shit taste. It's the only show I really look forward to each week. It might not be wizardly per se but I just watch what I find enjoyable

Kokkoku's been fun. Basically a shitty family fighting gangsters in stopped time. Show didn't really come together for me until last episode, 5, now I'm pretty excited for it.

Tried to watch FranXX and Violet, dropped both after the first episode. For the former, I've seen enough boring male protagonist+his cute eccentric buddy stinky at his side. For the latter the best way I could describe it was like watching some mediocre oscarbait.

Worth it for the best succubus though

I watch/read stuff for stories. If all there is to it is to gawk at a stinky then it's worth even less to me than it was before.

only Hakumei to Mikochi got me interested this season. didn't watch but will when it's going to be finished. maybe YuruCamp and Mitsuboshi Colors too.

The story was good in the last episode, right up until the MC just regressed his demon AIDS through sheer asspull.

nothing got me interested. It's rare something interested me.

I was enjoying Franxx until after that episode. The last few weeks it has been all SoL-tier story. It's not bad and totally useless but I want more plot progression and mecha action. I'll watch it all the way through but I'm not as hyped as I used to be.

darling was alright, havent been keeping up with it though. the last episodes were boring as fuck the one where they go to beach and the next ep where they fight in the house, jesus please just battle some fucking robots

grancrest pretty good so far but again havent been keeping up with it as soon as theo lost his shit and began serving under that one guy it's been fucking BORING just people talking and politicking, the beginning was great every episode they were fucking destroying and claiming territory and battling and now i can't even stay awake

overlord i don't know anymore, i'm still watching it but nothing ever happens this fucking stupid princess, climb, brain, stronhoff or whatever stuff is boring as hell. i dont give a fuck about the lizards either and they havent even been mentioned at all anymore, was a waste of the beginning of the season. i just want ainz to dominate the world already with his op magic

was watching that ryou's work chess anime up to a few weeks ago but i dropped it. too much whiny crying loli it was hard to watch after the second ai came around

dropped that other chess anime, i forget, it's the one where he basicaly hangs out at that succubi house with her sisters and the older sister (akira?) is mom tier. i dont know why i stopped watching it,it was alright

dropped that death march anime also. became unbearably boring, realized i didn't care about main character, he's a damn idiot, it's not fun at all, and it wasn't going to be some fun fantasy world adventure like i had hoped

quite a few others but i probably deleted the memories from my brain already, this season sucks

>this season sucks
Yeah the season started off promising but a lot of shows have fell apart the past few weeks. Next season doesn't look very good either though there's a small hope FMP will be good. Steins Gate will suck and LOGH will probably suck too. Nothing else really stands out to me.

I'm enjoying everything I'm watching.

Forgot to add I also dropped beatless.

>Watching: Slow Start
>Dropped: Mitsuboshi Colors
I dropped both of them. Did Slow Start get better or something?

This season will feel shitty if you're not watching any of the good shows. You picked a bunch of mediocre ones to start with.

Try Sora yori, Yuru Camp, Toji no Miko, Killing Bites, Kokkoku, and violet evergarden.
You strategically avoided everything that was good this season.

it had a slow start. Then they had an entire episode about dressing up a hikki succubus. Then they had an entire episode where they dressed up in bikinis at home because it was raining.

Well, it's that time of the season again. Stuff is ending and I'm going to talk about the stuff I didn't drop.

First to end is Yuru Camp. This is absolutely excellent. I could go on but generally, everyone is happy all the time, everything is comfy, and the characters each have their charms and personalities that warm the interactions between them. Sad to see it end, it was really joyful to watch every week.

top three are Violet Evergarden, Koi wa Ameagari, and Yuru Camp
everything else i'm watching this season ranges from decent (Kokkoku) to really bad (Ito Junji and Death March)

honestly don't get the hype around Sora Yori. it's well made, but i'm unconvinced by the plot. nothing really seems earned and all the solo development episodes are kinda hamhanded with the exception of ep 12 which i do think was stellar and kinda worth the whole season

Sora Yori had lots of promise at the start but I agree with you on all fronts. Yuru Camp (really good) and Ryuuou no Shigoto (picks a lot of boxes for me personally) are my top two. This season I dropped a record 9 shows and stuck through 3 to the end but I'm thinking of watching Hakumei to Mikochi even though it's nearly finished.

Well Slow Start ended. I really liked it, it was a very good CGDCT. Ironically enough it had a slow start. Once the characters warmed up it got pretty good and it made happy every episode. What is a little strange is that it has a lot of animation. It's a little odd but I put it down to style and it works even if it makes me feel a little dizzy.

Just finished Pop Team Epic, that had to be worst last episode of any anime I have ever seen. Sad thing is that I actually enjoyed the rest of the show but this left a very bad taste in my mouth. If the last episode being shit was part of the joke then I guess they at least succeeded at that.

funny, i hate this show and thought the last episode was at least interesting.

anyone else watching marchen madchen? i'm not, but i kinda wanna watch it to see how much of a train wreck it is, is this worth checking out at least in that regard?

File: 1521920687757.jpg (79.71 KB, 1280x720, 16:9, [HorribleSubs] Marchen Mad….jpg) ImgOps iqdb

Don't bully Marchen Madchen

I dropped it on episode six I think. The animation quality just got so bad it was insufferable. Its a shame too because there were some really good scenes, like in the onsen where the American succubus confronts the Chinese succubus and her matchsticks light up and it looks really cool.

Oh well. The OP is really good though!

Well this ended. I actually liked this series, contrary to my expectations. Worst parts were the 'lel references' which made up a good third of this show. Another third though was creative animation sequences, and bob team ebic sequences were also fun. This is certainly pretty crazy and a lot of the attempts at humour fall flat but there's plenty to watch.

Mitsuboshi Colors.
Somewhat like slow start, the succubi really grew on me and their little adventures became a joy to watch. They have very kid-like properties since they're assholes, too. I'll miss the colors.

I'm glad I don't watch seasonal shows that I really feel like have potential so I can still watch this in its entirety. Based on character designs and what little scenes I have seen it seems very similar to shows like Ichigo Mashimaro and Yuru Yuri and I hope my expectations will be fulfilled. It's been quite a while since I last had a good time with one of these 'cute succubi doing cute things' shows.

Last episode of Kokkoku. Overall, really good. Wasn't set in a high school, had believable characters, and the story was composed of rational, reasonable people. Apart from a few exceptions, but their personalities were part of the plot- it's not like everyone was sane. I did really like the characters. The plot is pretty good too, and it's well delivered. Worth watching if you're interested in something original for once.

It's not as good as those two. But then again I haven't properly enjoyed a CGDCT since NNB S2 (unless SSR last season counts) so what do I know.

File: 1522079195176.jpg (3.11 MB, 1411x5662, 1411:5662, spring 2018.jpg) ImgOps iqdb

What are you planning on watching for spring 2018?

Tokyo Ghoul and Alice or Alice look like the only things that might be worth watching

Mahou Shoujo Site because I hope the anime is as entertainingly bad as the manga is. The new FLCL too because the original was a nice 6 episode music video. Everything else looks like garbage, not that what I'm seeing isn't either. Just uninteresting garbage.

I enjoyed it too, some parts in the show had really shitty animation but i made it to the end and liked it.

File: 1522080001432.jpg (181.09 KB, 1411x1016, 1411:1016, sadfasfasdf.jpg) ImgOps iqdb

out of all those i will probably seek out these shows

aside from these i might just try out other ones and give them a chance

Everything, as usual.

The mecha parody thing looks decent but everything is VN and slice of life bullshit that can go die in a fire.

No point wasting money animating that shit. If you're not going to use the medium for doing things you can't already do in other mediums better then don't bother. Make a sitcom for your slice of life shit.

i'm gonna try to watch all the big sequels even though i don't really like any of them. didn't think steins;gate was that great so i'm not particularly excited for 0. first season of FMP is dogshit but the kyoani seasons were spectacular, so i'm not too excited about season 4 since it's xebecs so it could go either way. really only psyched about amanchu advance, that should be fantastic.
also gonna watch golden kamuy, hinamatsuri, mahou shoujo site, piano no mori, pretty derby, and wotaku ni koi

Ryuuo no Oshigoto ended. I feel like I was tricked into watching a loli harem somewhat, like I thought I was watching a shogi anime and then a harem turns up. Turns out it's a mash of both and it's a shogi harem. Still, it's well made, fun and endearing, if generic. They also play shogi now and then.

I dropped slow start on the second ep.
Is it worth getting back into? Also citrus has picked up again.

If you like cute succubi doing cute things, yes. It's fun and the succubi are endearing.

Another anime finished: gdgd men's party. This is the kind of sequel to gdgd fairies, which was a masterpiece. Not as good as fairies, but this has enough of what's good to keep me hooked. Seiyuu candid moments, improv, just general weird crap, I really like the gdgd series.

Sora yori mo Tooi Basho ended.
This was the best thing last season. I can hear a complaint in the past that I heard from someone else; "They won't spend long in antarctica, they spent 9 fucking episodes getting there".
No, they didn't spend very long in antarctica. It went by in a flash. And the journey was longer, and full of hardships and trials, overcome step by step, until finally on antarctican ice, but it ended quickly.
Characters get arcs, closures, development, it's amazing how interwoven everything is.
Then you have the actual show itself, visually. The shots of antarctica are gorgeous, and a lot of research went into this to get the snowcats and stuff right (not that I would know…)
Man I loved this so much. Sucks to be an anime in the next 3 seasons, having to compare with this.

Best original series: Sora Yori
Best continuation: sangatsu no lion

honourable mentions: slow start, citrus, sanrio danshi, yuru camp, idolish7, toji no miko

>everything is VN and slice of life bullshit
There is literally only two VN adaptations next season.

Finally watched the final episode of Ramen daisuki koizumi-san.
I enjoyed watching this series. It is very focused, almost to a detriment. It's basically cute succubi eating noodles every episode, with some ramen trivia thrown in. The novelty was nice. The succubi are good and there's a nice dynamic going on, but it's simple and packed with ramen.

> Still looking for a time to watch Shokugeki no Souma San no Sara

> Franxx is normalfag tier anime and ruined the mecha genre and Aldnoah.Zero which I love

> Tried to watch Mitsuboshi colors I thought it is about innocent little succubi doing things that heals a brokenan but no, actually disappointed

> confused if I would continue Mitsuboshi colors

> will try violet evergarden

> Tried Skilled Teaser Takagi san but it seemed to become boring and repetitive beginning from episode 5. Not to mention that the main characters seemed to be mostly linear. Still thinking if I will continue it

> currently watching Initial D and Kaiji

Hakumei to Mikochi ended.
Another one that grew on me over time, and now I'll miss the weekly dose of peaceful, adorable and charming. I liked the direction and artwork, the framing was often non-standard and quite interesting by itself, the artwork was very thematic and well put together. My only 'complaint' is that the physics made very little sense sometimes due to their tiny size.
This was nice.

So; Hakata Tonkotsu Ramens. Unlike the other ramen series, this isn't about ramen at all. One of the dumbest premises in the history of mankind, a main character who crossdresses, what could go wrong?
Nothing, really, it's fairly decent. It's fun and varied enough with good character interactions to keep the story flowing and action justified. It's okay.

Killing Bites ended. Oh man this was so fucking great. You think it'd be a 'so bad it's good', but really, they take the content and just go wild with it. However they actually end up delivering something that's structured, well paced, well directed and such that provides a solid framework the complete wildness that it puts up the front for. Examples like; increasing the gore a bit, increasing the tone on Hitomi's abs, they really put love into this and it's fucking great.

The one with the sharpest fangs wins.
That's what killing bites is!

File: 1522517477420.jpg (107.59 KB, 850x1070, 85:107, __pikupiku_gdgd_fairies_dr….jpg) ImgOps iqdb

I only recently watched GDGD Fairies, I enjoyed it a lot but I feel like there's no point to watching something without the original characters in it or at least some cute succubi. I don't get why they had to make a spin-off with males instead of a sequel which a lot more people probably desired. It's similar to Teekyuu where they could have made serveral seasons and it would still be as fun as the first.
>tokyo ghoul
>worth watching
Nice bait, you almost got me.

I thought that people would hate the killing bites line but I've never seen a single post disliking it. They even did something cool with it in the final episode where hitomi can't say the full line, but later nomoto does.
That part where Hitomi kills him was fantastic. Although I felt it was unrealistic that she had any feelings at all for him since he was about the most worthless character in the show.
The rape scene with the announcer doing the usual animal facts part made me laugh for some reason.

l dislike that line, there, I said it.

killing bites is on some WWE shit, i don't think the people that hate it would be able to appreciate wrasslin, i.e. the people that hate it are fuckin plebs

Takunomi. It's like someone took the 'cute cakes doing cute cake things' seriously and actually made it. I liked it, it was cute. Pretty good for what is essentially an alcohol advert. Sponsored by alcohol companies, every episode is an advert for some kind of japanese beverage. Nice.

New season stuff. First 3:

Mahou Shoujo Ore:
Fairly wacky, although the humour doesn't gel with me that well. It might not be long for my watch list, but we'll see. Some bits are good.

Uma Musume:
For some reason this makes me feel uncomfortable. To describe it as best I can; the horse succubi are treated just a little bit too much like animals. It's the subtle parts of treatment that just make it feel weird, exploitative and dystopian, and then you have the counter which is that they're all perfectly happy and don't mind at all.
I'm going to be watching this as a dystopian satire. If it actually turns out to be one I'll be impressed.
As for production quality- pretty good. Apart from a few odd scenes that make me question if this really is a satire. PA works are a smart anime producer, they might be pulling a fast one.

Gegege no Kitaro:
I have little patience for remakes and sequels and such, but this was actually pretty good. Great animation, the characters are lively, and the story is simple and works just fine.

Kakuriyo no Yadomeshi:
It's like natsume yuujinchou but they trivialised the social isolation and then turned it into twilight. Nope. The OP is revealing.

Uchuu Senkan Tiramisu:
I really liked this. I can see the jokes getting old but this is great. Main character is wizardly too.

Souten no Ken Re-Genesis:
This is atrociously bad. I feel sorry for it. I struggled to get through the OP let alone the show.

Usually I wait until I watch three series… but fuck it.
Legend of the Galactic Heroes:
Oh man this is great. I have to admit I haven't watched the original, but this hits all my buttons. Grand Space Fleet battles, 4X mastery, this is good.
We'll see how it handles the more political side of things, but damn.

Three more things:
Tachibanakan To Lie Angle:
Short, lesbian, fun. Not much to it but I like it.

3D Kanojo Real succubus:
I wish this was named something else so I wouldn't immediately think it was garbage. So happens I was right, but still. This show is bad in all the wrong ways.
>3D succubi are good too!
>Portrays 3D succubi as people who just ruin everything around them
I don't understand
It's garbage

Alice or Alice:
I like this and I don't like myself for doing so. It's the ultimate cute succubus trash garbage. Ergo excellent and it's only a few minutes long.

>It's the ultimate cute succubus trash garbage. Ergo excellent
i like your thinking

Violet Evergarden:

Kyoani put a lot of effort into this show so I am going to put some effort into my thoughts. Firstly; I expect some extreme reactions from opinions to this show. Secondly, some context. The production quality was fucking insane, so criticisms are at a higher level than most shows; and the finer a show is polished, the more the bumps stand out. That's a good summary of what I think.
This is an exceptionally well produced anime. This is a very character driven story but the characters are actually quite shallow, and the writing is retarded in places. Especially around the action scenes, these go full retard at times and it's like being kicked in the balls while trying to savor subtle storytelling. Violet is the most explored but the narrative around her character is poorly written. (But very well produced, there's a lot of subtle elements that show violet's progression from autism to normal emotional teenager).
They should have cut out the action scenes entirely, they're completely pointless. You don't need to show that violet was an edglord killing machine (or still is) with dumb action scenes. People's reactions to her is enough for past exploits, and for modern proof you need combat effectiveness, not retardedly godly CQC, like how she'd immediately drop into grizzled soldier mode or something. Lack of realism was the biggest flaw in the action scenes, and this ate away at the realism of the emotions that I, as the viewer, was induced into feeling. And they even toned down the stupid (good move) since in the LN, Violet has a motherfucking huge axe. Like seriously, please.
Some scenes had the wrong music placed to them, which was the biggest flaw from the production angle. It was jarring. That's it production wise, production was superb.
It seems like Kyoani wanted to do some heavy emotional story about lost love in war, and found this LN and decided to adapt it without reading it first. Then they just do the best they can to de-stupid it. The result is something great, but not entering the realm of the excellent. Especially since as a character story, Violet gets less interesting the more 'normal' she gets. My favourite parts were when she started to feel all the guilt and pain she'd been blocking from her military experiences. It was all too short and got completely overwhelmed by the out-of-order love story that had scenes magically appear in the last episode explaining the entire fucking thing. As if they were later in the novel because the novel was written piecemeal and not as a cohesive whole. If I gave a shit about violet I would have really enjoyed the last episode since it was a great wrapup for her.
I liked episode 4 since it was about violet's autism in realistic situations. People at the time didn't seem to like it with the excuse "It's kyoani original", but shit nigga it's a fucking light novel.

I could go on but it's seriously worth watching, because with all this criticism it's still great.
It's just polished fine enough for the bumps to really, really stand out.

The new gundam is too odd. The whole VR mmorpg thing makes no sense and the avatars are a bizarre crash between zeon uniforms and generic fantasy rpg outfits, and furries.
The gunpla battle was ok, nothing really stand out. The characters and models were all sedate and uninteresting.
I wasn't expecting another GBF, I would have been ok with just another TRY, what is a really low bar, but now I am doubtful that it will even reach that point.

It's gundam I guess. Pew pew lazers, explosions, action, I mean I liked the 00 episode. The next one just confused me so to the side of the road it goes.

Tada-Kun wa Koi Shinai:
More or less uninteresting. Nothing wrong with it, just it's entirely bland. Not even adult maki is amusing enough to let it survive.

Megalo Box: I'm usually opposed to remakes and shit but if they're like this then fuck yeah give me more. I really like this, they even gave it a cel shading style by giving it rough colours and lines. Excellent first episode.

tbh i, and i think a fair number of other people, interpret gilbert's love for violet as paternal. originally it felt like it was gonna be a romance, but especially with the whole attempts at adopting her into the bougainvillea family made it seem more familial than romantic.

I didn't consider that, but it's not too important to my thoughts since that was not the bad part of the story. It was actually the best part. But since this is Japan you know that they'd have married if Gilbert had not died. Or something.

Umamusume didn't seem dystopian to me but I'm taking it kind of like toned down keijo. I don't really get the idol thing at all, or why they aren't just centaurs, but a lot of the horse related gags and little details like the shoes are at least mildly amusing.

really liked megalobox as well

The context of that world though is that there aren't any actual horses. That's what makes it weird.

Comic succubi:
Really fun. Hyper speed, dazzlingly bright colors, and it filled my quota of crying succubus screencaps within like 5 minutes. You need a seatbelt to watch this. Gotta cute fast.

Saredo Tsumibito wa Ryuu to Odoru:
It's chuuni garbage. Gun swords, bad designs, bad writing, bad characters, bad plot, bad action scenes.. The animation and voice acting are okay, so I feel a little bad for the production company making this crap.
Starts with something like "In year X, Quantum Physics was broken and the laws of thermodynamics were overturned to generate energy for free.." AND SO IT TURNS INTO DRAGON FIGHTING WITH MAGIC SWORDGUNS
I was hoping for a kind of post-scarcity science fiction, but instead got garbage. My fault for not reading the synopsis, or the title, before watching.

Akkun to Kanojo:
Tsundere male romcom. Pass.

>Comic succubi
I was planning on skipping this because it looked like another boring Kirara series but the first episode was really fun because of how fast paced and over the top it was. And Kirara series seem to work best when the characters are mentally ill (like Anne Happy) and this is the case with this series. Picked up.

I was expecting not to be interested since I have zero interest in baseball. Apparently neither do the characters, since they're focused on their careers rather than the games. This seems to be a show more about securing a high enough salary to retire off, rather than glamour. I liked it since it's extremely adult.

Mahou Shoujo Site:
I tried to think of a way of describing this without using the word 'edge' but this is like describing water without using the word wet.
Fuckton of violence and misery, but without the slapstick self-awareness to pull off something entertaining. Memebait.

Telekinetic succubus appears and bullies a yakuza. I read the manga so I liked that, and the anime captures it pretty well. It's good.

Glad to see my 2nd favorite stupid and hilariously edgy manga no one knew existed until now got an adaptation.

I read the first few chapters a while back and completely forgot about it.

How hard is it for the average jap to become a mangaka? Being able to make money just shitting out trash doesn't seem to bad. The only time I regret not being japanese.

is it truly "edgy" or are you just wizkid memeing?

File: 1523205408041.jpg (86.69 KB, 1280x720, 16:9, [HorribleSubs] Mahou Shouj….jpg) ImgOps iqdb

You tell me

Thanks now I know the name

It depends on what you mean by "truely edgy" because it features:

>Bullies who beat the shit out of the protagonist and nearly drown her in toilets on a daily basis. They got eventually get bored of doing this and kill the stray cat she looked after and called up their friend to try and rape her

>Two bullies get killed because protagonists magical succubus shit teleported them in front of a conveniently oncoming train by accident
>Third gets killed because protagonist's soon to be friend used her time stop powers and slit her throat with the box cutter the bully was about to use to give the protagonist a glasgow smile
>Protagonist's brother beats the shit out of her to relieve stress because his father beats the shit out of him if he under performs in school

I could go on, and that's from the 1st episode alone. I could easily bring up all the shit that happens in the manga too. Like how the protagonist's friend Had her parents killed by some homeless guy and she keeps him in some stasis in order to torture him for the rest of his life or later on when The brother gets one of the magical succubus's shit and tests it out on a failed normalfag by telling him to walk into the ocean and not to stop

You may have noticed that the post above the one you quoted also told you what it was called. And called it edgy.

Major 2nd: Straight baseball anime. Probably aimed at youngsters. Meh.

Devils Line: I've been saying 'twilight but' a lot of times, but this time it's just 'twilight'. Only positive is that it isn't poorly made, just the material is dumb.

Caligula: I have very mixed feelings about this one. I can't tell if it's a masterpiece or they accidentally made something good. Right so the main character is losing his mind, and the episode is directed so fucking damn well reflecting this. I'm starting to think that the 'mistakes' were intentional.
This is riding the line between pretentious and genius. Lots about the episode just feels off.. like something's wrong, but the plot is that the main character is losing his mind, and gradually noticing himself that things have been wrong for a while.
I'm looking forward to the next episode purely to reveal to me if this direction is a masterpiece or accidental.

Just don't burn the forest 'kay!

im pleasantly surprised by caligula. hopefully the rest of the episodes are just as good

fuck netshit for ruining piano no mori

wtf do they do that in the anime?

Cutie Honey Universe:
Real homage to old anime shows, this being a remake, or sequel, or reboot, or some shit. Either way, they don't fuck around and this is pretty good. The style is definitely old, too, which is what I don't really like about it. But to the best of my knowledge this isn't too bad. Even has the old school ass animation too.

Nil Admirari no Tenbin:
100% fujo garbage. It doesn't deserve any more words than that.

Fumikiri Jikan:
Cute little short about two succubi standing at a rail crossing. I like it.

Two this time since I want to talk about Golden Kamuy.

Rokuhoudou Yotsuiro Biyori - This is actually alright. It's cute men doing cute things. It's comfy and has a good atmosphere to it but it's too gay for me.

Golden Kamuy:
I'll start by saying that the source material is really good and it should be checked out. That said, this is not an adaptation it deserves. The animation is mediocre and the 3DCG is downright terrible.
The story and the characters come through though, so it makes it overall worth watching with the caveat that this is not a good adaptation.

how are you wizzies liking high school dxd hero? i think its a huge improvement over the shitfest that was born

im liking golden kamuy, i just cant get over how dumb that little ainu looks with her oversized clothing. i like the cg and bear sounds for once though, no stupid cartoony animals or human voice actors. nothing makes me rage like seeing animals (cats for example) drawn as blobs and with human voice actors going "nyaaaaa~"

Didn't feel like this needed it's own thread so I'm going to put this here. If it's ok.

Can someone please explain how the G*rls und Panzer movies are supposed to work? I get the whole plot arc and such but is there 6 parts to the finale or 6 diffrent movies

Watching Tokyo Ghoul out of curiosity , its not as bad as /a/ makes it out to be
When I finish it I'm thinking either Monster or Black Lagoon , both have been recommended here

i liked to read monster and watch black lagoon. The anime of black laggon is much better than the manga imo, a lot of work was put on animation and music. Monster anime has like 200 episodes or something

read the manga for monster, its way better. they decided to adapt a chapter an episode for the anime, so the anime is really stretched out and boring

the monster anime is good but overrated. nice atmosphere, but the pacing is really slow and, despite what fans would tell you, there is filler. the directing is mostly by-the-numbers which makes it a boring watch at times, but when it's good it's good.

i think it's considered a classic for the same reason steins;gate is, which is that's it's kind of the only anime of its genre that manages to not be terrible.

3D Kanojo: Failed Wizard Story

I'm currently catching up on the winter shows and was severely disappointed by Yuru Camp. It seemed quite well-received but it was just another case of a low-budget studio attempting to make an iyashikei show without understanding how to do this properly, those kind of studios really need to just focus on making shitty LN romcoms and leave my favourite genre alone.
The "comedy" is written like the show was actually meant for preteen succubi (zoom-ups on silly faces, wacky conversations), the MC is constantly animated in CG when on a bike and I cannot fucking stand CG unless it's used for a proper reason, 2D animation is barely present and close-ups/flashbacks are often used to cover up this fact.
I have never been this mad while watching a show that's supposed to relax you. I know I'm going to get shit for stating this like I always do because you're not allowed to see a popular show for what it truly is just because it's popular, even on this site.

Last Period - Owarinaki Rasen no Monogatari :
I liked it. First 5 seconds were misleading, as it quickly devolves into dorks doing dumb things. Reminds me of milky holmes.

Butlers - Chitose Momotose Monogatari:
Fujoshit. I didn't actually get past the OP. The stuff before the OP was well enough made that it wasn't an immediate drop though. I'm sure this isn't too awful but it's fujoshit out the ass so I'll never find out.

Wakaokami wa Shougakusei:
Definitely feels like a kid's show. However, the production is really smooth, it's finely crafted. I liked it enough to watch the next 2 episodes at least.

More stuff
Dorei-ku The Animation:
Takes a pretty stupid idea and plays it fairly well. Not bad, but I get the feeling it's one of those 'goes to shit in 3 episodes' ones. I'm keeping an eye on it. I hope it goes further towards the sci-fi route.

Jikkenhin Kazoku Creatures Family Days:
Reminds me a lot of Demi-chan. Slice of life with monsterish succubi. Empathised with the characters a lot due to the whole freak of nature thing. It's decent.

Piano no Mori (2018):
The 2018 must imply it's a remake or some shit. It's got nice piano music in and is really quite relaxing. I liked it. Nothing amazing though. It'd be quite easy to pull off something engaging by the right choice of music with some well directed scenes. Piano music is plenty deep by itself.

thanks for making these wizzie, its helpful to take into consideration when choosing what to watch

After doing some research this is a mobage franchise promotional anime, all the characters are based off of actual racehorses

I have to say, after watching the first episode of Steins;Gate 0 I was pretty impressed. I didn't come into it with high expectations but maybe they'll actually pull it off.

I agree and in my opinion Yama no Susume did it much better, putting more soul, interesting characters and technical aspect in a 3 minute episode. Also better animation.

mc of caligula is very wizardly

how are you wizzies enjoying darling in the franxx? i think its been pretty good so far. episodes 9-11 were mediocre but that was just to stay faithful to eva and 6 was a bit of a letdown

It's okay. Not awful or outstanding so I'll finish it at least. Where it goes from ep 14 may change that though.

Wotaku ni Koi wa Muzukashii:
Romance. Pass. Some people might like it but it's a pretty blatant fantasy.

Isekai Izakaya - Koto Aitheria no Izakaya Nobu:
This is the exact same thing as Isekai Shokudou but worse. This time though the twist is that it's a Japanese restaurant instead of a Japanese owned western style one. IE they removed the twist and now the entire anime is WOW NIPPON FOOD STRONK

Hisone to Masotan:
Try not to miss this, it's decent. If ridiculous. succubus decides her career on a whim and after ending up in an office, gets whisked away on adventure. It's charming and fun.

It's trash made for teenager normalfags.

The sloppy writing and the teeny, excessive soap dramas really bring it down. The romance and lead waifu are nice, but that's really all it has going for it. A big disappointment so far.

Not watching it, got tired of trigger stuff halfway through LWA. Feels too much like how I remember western stuff being, and I can't stand that. I still like their earlier stuff but I haven't worked up the will to see the new one.

that sounds like most anime.

DxD HERO is really stepping their game up since last season's trainwreck.

Any thoughts on the new Uno Makoto designs? I'm mostly indifferent, but I like how softer the succubi' figures look.

I am indifferent about it. I just hope the animation quality in action scenes gets a little better (always something I like) and that the tits and ass physics/animation get a little more active then last session.

My thoughts are he should get back to fura doujinshi already

Spoilers from the manga.

He ends up getting beat by his sister's friends and a cop working with the site admins turns him into his sex slave until he manages to kill them and falls into a coma or something in the hospital

Anime could be different. And it'd benefit because he's the most entertaining character by far.

I honestly don't understand how you even sit through all the garbage that airs every season. Is it just a matter of having standards so low that you are willing to watch anything as long as it has movement and sound? Funny thing is that when I see people, be it here or on a normalfag site, describe their "enjoyment" of seasonal shows they always say stuff like "well it's not good or enjoyable but I'll sit through it anyway" as if they realise it's all shit but they're addicted to it so they just can't stop.

You've described life itself.

I'd prefer to say that I do have standards, they're just low. It's not so much a case of wanting to see the next episode most of the time, it's more a case of not wanting to not see the next episode. If that makes sense.

Me either. I could never get into anime.

Then why the fuck are you in this thread?

Because I saw that wizards post and wanted to reply to it. Duh.

I don't get it either, I drop things towards the end if I feel the need to, usually around first or second episode.
I tried watching older series and cult classics but 99% of the time I'm like pic rel.
I think you enjoy anime up to the point you've seen all the cliches all those shows rely on.

Or maybe you start enjoying anime once you find the recurring cliches you enjoy and learn to pick out the shows that will feature them at a very high probability.

I'm hoping there will be more of this guy. I want to see him murder as many succubi as he can… Aaand he's gone. Guess i'll drop it mid-season like i did with Terraformars..

I'm the guy who talks about everything, and basically I'm adding a 'why I dropped x' section at the end of seasons (memory dependent…) because of mahou shoujo edge.

What the hell is this? It looks like poptepipiku but with actually recognisable references. Problem is it's not fun in itself. I remember hearing about this anime somewhere but I don't even want to know right now.

To Be Hero, it's a chinese anime that got dubbed. There's the second season which has no relation so far to the first season To Be Heroine airing now.
The series formula is that it alternates between whacky humor that can only be called random and serious elements. I liked it. It's amateur in a lot of ways, it feels like they have two entirely different shows and decided they would cut them together because they thought that would work.
I don't know what the chinese were thinking when they made it. Mostly every joke revolves around the characters appearance rather than anything else. Second season has the same problems but the serious side of the series seems a little more interesting this time.

I'm waiting for your follow-up post.

In the end i didn't drop it and I'm expecting another season. "Our" comic relief character gets ass-blasted and samurai grill makes new memes. Even though the cliffhanger which was succubi becoming "good" was disappointing. It was on a level comparable to shounen anime like naruto or dragon ball. The power of yuri love compelled the mind-control of Evil Kween…

Stein's gate had meh ending but at least now they're promising worldwide war 3 in the next season.

Fumikiri Jikan didn't disappoint so far. Boku no waifu academia had a nice reveal in the end. Nothing surprising and i have no idea where will the story go next but it was fun to watch.

I'll start with Hinamatsuri. Not really much to say other than this is great and that Anzu deserved her happy ending. Very much worth watching. So much fun.

Uma Musume:
The first few episodes made me feel uneasy, as the succubi were being treated like animals. There's a little thread of darkness in this, in that horses that don't race get turned into glue. Or they would if they weren't too stupid to recover properly, and so luckily Silent Suzuka was not turned into glue. Has energy, and skips some of the idol crap. Overall enjoyable. It's plenty stupid though, but it just embraces it and keeps going. Sure why not. Dodgy CGI here and there, and there are a few episodes where the audio is messed up. That's weird.

Comic succubi:
I liked it. Cute succubi drawing cute manga, and a relatable protagonist. A nice ending too, with a realy nice wrapup to an arc about a succubus who cries a lot. Good use of music, good use of 'manga style' framing to present characters, and it looks nice too. Very cute. Every episode left me feeling happy.
It also fully stocked my collection of crying succubus screencaps.

Toji no Miko:
A lot of episodes. I didn't pay attention to a good chunk of the plot since it was tedious and really it was just an excuse to get the characters to do something. These characters though are great and I like all of them. The characters have arcs and develop throughout the show, and really grew on me over the course of 24 weeks. The animation is of inconsistent quality, ranging from really excellent to hilariously shoddy which I heavily suspect is a production issue. The fights are CG, but they're really well choreographed and look like something out of a movie. The story itself has impact and shit actually happens. Characters fucking die. And not just one. The use of Utsushi as an excuse to carve each other up works well as a plot device since there's actual weight to when a succubus gets carved up for real. succubi get carved up for real in this.
Overall, excellent but needed more polishing. The final episode was pretty perfect though, if the low budget showed through when they hand animated a battle scene and had to cut away to save production from dying. I really liked the start and I thought the ending was good.

Omae Wa Mada Gunma Wo Shiranai:
For what is actually a tourism promotion production, I actually kinda liked it. It was wacky and interesting, and reminded me a little of teekyuu. I mean the last episode they die, get resurrected on a different planet and talk about the Japan Snake Center. Good shit.

Golden Kamuy:
The source material is absolutely amazing, and you should read the manga. The first episode of this was a disaster but if you keep watching it you start getting used to how butchered it was. And the energy and life of the material is really brought out by the voice actors. Ignoring the visuals it's great. It has a great contrast between comedic moments, sheer horrific violence, and asirpa's top survival tips. The material really is fantastic. I also really love the setting. Post Russo-Japan war era Japan is a fantastic place to have something set. You have old style Japanese stuff kicking around but around is the brutal pace of modernisation that was going on in that era. Also it's a massively underappreciated war, it was extremely bloody, and historically important. Japan learned that they can win against larger powers if they hit sharp and fast. Which of course was wrong since Russia was a paper bear at that point in history. Don't miss the manga, but the anime just misses too much of the visuals.
Fucking CGI fire.

Uchuu Senkan Tiramisu:
I thought this was really good. Cheesy but in all the right ways as it's for comedic effect. Short episodes and a relatable protagonist. The main joke is that he's doing something autistic like putting protective film on his visor during a battle, and geting bubbles under the film. Nightmare. While this is the main joke, it's funny enough to keep going, since they pile on the tropes to keep the situation fresh. I found it to be consistently funny.

Last Period:
Fairly fun. Breaks the 4th wall every episode and doesn't give a shit. Characters are happy all the time and the tone is consistent throughout. Unfortunately it got CR's meme translator so the subs are peppered with epic maymays. Not great, and gets boring at times, but if you pay attention to the jokes they're mostly meta jokes. For example, one of the episodes was structured like a kemono friends episode and it was a great little tribute. Watch this for the ED at least, since it's great.

This show is by far my favorite this season and a solid 75% of the reasoning is all the voicework.

Legend Of the Galactic Heroes:
Hot damn this is great, although as a qualifier I haven't watched the original (yet). Looks absolutely fantastic. The story is magificent, as it's a bunch of people in chairs talking to each other but there's so much weight between each exchange. The births and deaths of millions, the weight of gargantuan empires, twisting around and being thrown here and there. The backgrounds in each scene tell parts of the story, the music flows and brings the scenes to life, it's really good direction. I also love how the old rules of warfare still apply in space here - the ships are like sausages so a flank is still important. I get the feeling the story has been trimmed but it doesn't hurt the show. One thing I really loved was how inter-character conflicts were resolved like sensible adults. Completely bizarre. The 19th century, in space!

Dorei-ku the Animation:
I actually liked this. Not just in a 'so bad it's good' kind of way. It's animated well, directed fine, but of course the plot is batshit, but not too batshit. I'd say the plot was fine too, it didn't rely on bad plot twists. Sure it introed new characters all the time but hey, because of that we get the best character in the entire series. He's fucking great. One of the things he did was to make his slaves run around in their underwear in the woods while he shot at them with a BB gun. What a great guy. Definitely found a lot of fun out of this series. I think this was actually good. It was a great balance between silly shit and a straight plot.

Megalo Box:
Started fantastic, stayed great. Got just a little worse as it went on. Each episode was masterfully made, but the plot dragged it down just a little. Ippo style 'get hit for 6 rounds and then hit them once and win' fights were far too numerous. The last episode was good because it removed the internal contradiction in logic behind the gear. If they're supposed to give you more power, having Joe take hits is retarded. This is the only flaw, however. The rest is actually fantastic. There are so many themes and subtexts running through this, as well as trope subversion. For example, joe steals a super prototype gear, and the obvious hint is that he'll use it becuase his old gear broke - and then he just breaks it right away. Also the OP is stellar. The direction is fantastic, stuff is skipped if it needs to be, damn. It takes a lot of work to get the old shading style too, and they did it justice. I don't want to say this is great too many times, as I know that turns people off of things. But all you'll need is the first episode.

Yes this is the same image three times

Is this only for seasonal anime? I'm 40 minutes into Koe no Katachi and I honestly don't know if I should keep watching. I expected the entire movie to be what happened in the first 20 minutes.

what the fuck, I though it's older than that. Of course I'm dropping it, I was under the impression it's something older.

Probably the most underappreciated thing this season. It's actually really good. The approach is to take baseball as a career rather than a sport. Winning and losing, performance, all affects salaries and how much you're prepared for retirement. Apart from the godawful throwing animation CGI, this is solid. The main character's perspective is relatable and his thoughts and views on the world are great to see. The last episode was good too, and you finally find out who the succubus in the ED is. Everything is treated in a very grounded and realistic, and frankly oftentimes depressing way. The world of pro baseball is unforgiving, but there's money buried under the pitch, gurazeni! Also the ED is nice.

is it anything like Kaiji?

Shit, LoGH got a remake? I watched the original in 2013, I wouldn't mind to revisit it as it was THE anime that made me very harsh for everything that followed if the quality wasn't top-notch.

File: 1530479920407.jpg (156.34 KB, 1280x1280, 1:1, 1530470370460.jpg) ImgOps iqdb

Not gonna lie, I'm not sure what I enjoy anymore.

This was really pretty fantastic especially the setting and inclusion of ainu culture. I found the poop gag to be kind of unfunny but I can see why they included it. More creepy pedo vibes unfortunately though. It's like Japan is incapable of writing stories without romantic elements between grown adults and little succubi.

Oddly this is the only anime that I absolutely loved that I've never finished. I basically lost interest as soon as the enemy was vanquished and the conquest was complete which happens like halfway through and just kind of forgot about it. I bet the second half is just as good though and I'm glad I still have it to watch.

Not in the slightest.

This could have been great but it was just too fucking retarded. I tried to be as credulous as I could but I just couldn't do it. It's like they took all the retarded parts of Ippo and dialed it up to 11. I hate anime where I have to suspend my disbelief to enjoy them. Maybe if the whole point of gear was to make your punches super weak it might have made sense. I mean that fight where he gets beat up and doesn't manage to land a single punch the entire fight and then literally drops his hands and takes multiple unblocked punches to the face from a guy wearing an exoskeleton that supposedly makes you stronger and then magically KOs him with the first shot he was able to land was just fucking stupid. Yuri taking off his gear and betraying Yukiko for the sake of his ego was dumb as shit, and the ending sucked major dick. Most of the fights themselves were pretty boring, come to think. I might have enjoyed the homage to Ashita no Joe more if I was more of a fan, but I ended up dropping Ashita no Joe not that far in because I thought it was pretty low quality. Overall I'd give Megalo Box a 7.

People were really soured by the last episode it seems. I mean one thing you need to take into context is that when I say something is good I'm comparing it against the entire season, not just the other stuff I didn't drop. So like shit like island, Kakuriyo no Yadomeshi, Saredo Tsumibito wa Ryuu to Odoru, and other complete garbage shit that really is atrocious. Compared to that Megalo box just suffers from a dumb plot.

>but I ended up dropping Ashita no Joe not that far in because I thought it was pretty low quality
Same, I hated how loud and obnoxious the show was.

New trash!

I expected nothing and I'm still disappointed. To start with, the plot is entirely predictable and I called most of the episode. Secondly, it has basically what I'm going to term; VN stank. It feels like an adapted VN instead of an actual story. I'd say it was kinda okay, except that they decided to end the first episode on a reveal type ending: "If I go into the sunlight I'll die" and then the ED shows her in the sun. I get that it's a lie because she's uncomfortable outside or has issues or some shit but don't make it a end-episode revelation and then spoil it in the fucking ED. An attempt was made. The direction is kinda dull like they're going through the motions.

I'll start by saying that the visual direction here is excellent. You can throw money at the visuals and have them animated well, and that's what happened here too. But good direction is priceless. Music works well, too. Technically this is really fantastic. Also sweating anime succubi. Here's the butt. Anyway this is a alternate reality version of sweaty ping pong succubi where they take themselves more seriously. There's some drama, but it's cut up by comedy relief scenes so that it doesn't get too overbearing. And the drama isn't intercharacter drama, it's personal drama. No misunderstandings or other bullshit, just fundamental concerns that characters have about themselves that affect how they treat those around them and what they do. It's really good. Ping Pong the animation handles the subject matter almost overwhelmingly better though, but if I'm comparing it to ping pong the animation it's doing something right. Has lots of sweaty succubi = I was sold in the first 30 seconds.

This triggers /k/. It's fujoshit but there's a half interesting backstory thrown in, and they're using flintlocks as they were the only guns left to fight the NWO with. This is the only positive sentence I have. This is hilariously awful. I had to make a webm of this garbage.

Aru Zombie Shoujo no Sainan: It's like an hour and 20 minutes long, but it's highly worth it. It's pretty much a slasher fic, but it's fucking hilarious. Get through the first 10-20 minutes where it's the preamble where they introduce the characters who are going to die and it's a rollercoaster of laughter. It's like a good three-parter. I was constantly entertained, and had to hold myself back from laughing too hard. I really hope this doesn't get forgotten since it really deserves to be seen.

Why is this getting posted repeatedly?

Pretty great. Got a cool setting, with interesting stuff going on. Dips a bit when it deals with the whole ritual thing and the breaking tradition ending was pretty predictable but it had some good character moments. It's pretty unique, which is nice. Definitely a novelty worth watching. The music adds a lot, as well.

summer 2018 is off to a terrible start, the only shows worthwhile shows so far is yama no susume s3 and badmintiddies.
island had good marketing to trick people into watching it. tonegawa could be decent but the first half of the first episode was just recap. back street succubi is horrendously low budget.

Chuukan Kanriroku Tonegawa:
If you liked Kaiji, prepare to completely ignore this. It's basically a Tonegawa fanwank mixed with middle-manager slice of life gag anime. The conflicting 'tonegawa is so cool' against 'Middle manager troubles yo' doesn't lead it well. It's not a good tribute to the man and it's not a good comedy. It's really quite bad and it misuses all of the Kaiji/Akagi tension/drama assets in trivial situations. Literally the only reason to watch this is the Chairman's voice acting. It's really great and every scene with him in it was great. This is like 2 minutes of the entire anime though. Boring.

Back Street succubi:
The only subs available look kind of rushed and the translation is kinda off a lot of the time but whatever. I liked the show. Extremely cheap but there's some fun content there underneath. Yakuza idols. Can't go wrong. Idols are all yakuza anyway so what the hell right?

Isekai Maou to Shoukan Shoujo no Dorei Majutsu:
This piece of shit made me copypaste the name. However, I really liked this. This is one of those 'embrace the garbage' ones where it's tropes out the ass but it's handled in a fun way so it's still good to watch. I'm a little surprised how much I liked this. I expected to hate it but I really liked it. You do really need to embrace the garbage though. I recommend extracting the subs, and putting them on the Ohys raw to avoid the censorship though. (+10000 ms apparently) ,Yes this is too much effort for me too, but the censorship really is like a dark cloud.

Yume Oukoku to Nemureru 100-nin no Ouji-sama:
Fujoshit isekai. I have to admit that I completely skipped through this. Because it's shit. It's isekai but a succubus is isekai'd into an otome game. Or some shit. Lots of handsome men fawning over her. I'm trying to evaluate it by imagining the genders are reversed and even on that level it falls short. It's shit.

Banana Fish:
Has a real plot, which is nice. No high schools, no comedy romances, a real plot. Something about a new street drug that's turning people wacko, and mafia conspiracies. It's okay. I want to see where this goes. ALSO NOT ISEKAI.

Shichisei no Subaru:
Starts terrible. Continues to be terrible, but then the plot kicks in and I suddenly get interested. Goddamnit why is there so much game world shit this season. Honestly not that bad. Relative on a scale though.

Satsuriku no Tenshi:
I have no idea what is going on. Supposed to be spooky I think. Seems like a VM adaptation or some shit. That said, it's not isekai, it's not set in a japanese highschool, it's not fujoshit. Going to continue watching this mostly because of what it is not, rather than what it is, which isn't ideal. succubus wakes up in spoop house and survives, kind of. I don't fucking know but when a bird bleeds way more blood than it could possibly have contained you know someone is trying too hard.

Harukana Recieve:
Simple and pleasing. Is very focused on what makes it interesting, an we all know what that is. Even trying to ignore the visuals, there's some skill in the production, as it's just set out very traditional sports anime fare. I like the eye tints.

Chio-chan no Tsuugakuro:
I read the manga so I'm biased here but I thought the adaptation was a fun adaptation. Captures the spirit of the original and the voice acting gives it another level which is nice. Definitely one to watch this season, it's a load of fun.

Well Darling in the Franxx finally ended:
Yes I watched the whole thing. The final episode was great for making snide comments. Trigger can't end
anything without giant epic space battles, even a teenage romance drama. At least Abe's wild ride is over. Yes please more breeding propagada, Abe. Zorome is best boy and that's about it. Except the maze of completely unresolved plot points, the asspulls, the plot that goes all over the place, it was okay. It's a trigger show through and through. Luluco was better.

Time for the much anticipated 'shit I dropped' section. I was waiting until the season finished.
(not pictured).

Alice to Alice: My god this is sacchrine. I just couldn't watch it. It's actually awful.

Isekai Izakaya: It's basicaly isekai Shokudou but worse. It's not comfy, and it's embarassing. Shokudou got the tone right, this did not.

Mahou Shoujo Site: The edge can only hold attention for so long. The main problem was that I didn't enjoy watching it. Could call it flat characters and an uninteresting plot but that's opinion, really. Surprisingly shallow.

Amanchu Advance: Soon as it hit the dream-world shit I was outta there. Where's my comfy diving? What the fuck is this ghost shit?

Magical succubus Ore: Too gay. And not in a good way. Also the comedy was a miss for me.

Sunoharasou no Kanrinin-san:
Succubus with gigantic chest modules tries to seduce a young wizzer. Doesn't sit right with me, to start with. Poor lad just keeps getting bullied with giant mammary glands. Very repetitive and there's one joke and it gets super old fast.

Planet With:
I recommend getting out your generic protagonist bingo board before watching. I don't recommend making it a drinking game bingo if you have a sensitive liver. Good sound direction, and a surprising amount of production quality in general. Comments on the plot: What the fuck? I actually kind of liked it. I especially liked how the, uh, main threat, used psychological warfare by messing with people's motivations instead of traditional weapons. I'd check this out if I were you.

Hataraku Saibou:
I never wanted to fugg a red blood cell before. A very Japanese biology lesson. Surprisingly violent. Honestly quite fun and enjoyable. Also I hope they start selling KILL hats.

Ongaku Shoujo:
Sold as soon as I saw the cute grills, unsold immediately later when it turned out to be idolshit. On top of that it's just kinda dumb. I hate it.

Hyakuren no Haou to Seiyaku no Valkyria:
Immediate impressions are VN stank. The name is too fucking long too. Ho man are these fucking Assyrians? Oh my god it's an isekai into the old testament with assyria and babylon and shit. But of course with inconsistent mythology, and then magic is introduced and I stopped caring. Then I started laughing. This is an absolute work of art. This is awful and I love it. It does tickle my like of the late bronze age though.

Asobi Asobase:
I love this. Even though it relies on faces too much, it's a great comedy about 3 awful people. I super enjoyed the entire episode and this one's a keeper.

You have such a love for garbagefire other-world harem shit that it makes me wonder.

Isekai is just a platform around which the trash I usually enjoy is built around. 3 years ago it'd be the same shit but in a highschool instead of the late bronze age. Or maybe a magic school with a battle-harem protagonist.

Black clover
I've watched five episodes so far and it's pretty interesting and enjoyable if you aren't into Naruto etc this anime is pretty similar to it.
It's still airing but I have no idea when are they going to upload the next episode.
I also watch
Anonymous noise
Mahou Shoujo Ore
Ms. Koizumi Loves Ramen Noodles
And they're all pretty enjoyable

Couldn't get into BC because the MC's voice grates on my ears like poprocks poured directly on the eardrum.

>Asobi Asobase
The first episode was really great but it looks like it could become stale. Though the joke with the teacher tasting the water was the most I'd laughed at an anime in a very long time.

Jashin-chan Dropkick:
Cute demons doing cute things. Snake succubus, medusa, and some goth loli succubus who summoned them. Dead or Macaroni Chainsaw is the best movie, of course. There's some fourth wall breaking that's cute. Also surprisingly violent. I enjoyed it.

Phantom of the Twilight:
I was expecting dumb yaoishit from the title and that's exactly what this is.

Kyoto Teramachi Sanjou no Holmes:
It got the meme translator. I expected fujoshit but it's about antique appraisal, which is novel. The main succubus eats all the eggs. Confusing non-linear storytelling. It's still kind of fujoshit though. Well so long as the stories in this about these antiquities is actually true this is neat. Borderline too much fujoshit though.

>Extremely cheap but there's some fun content there underneath
Not enough fun imo. Looks like a generic run of the mill fast paced slapstick comedy.
>my 2nd favorite stupid and hilariously edgy manga
What's the 1st one!? I think I'm hooked on the edge.
>MC's voice grates on my ears
That's the point. He is supposed to be grotesquely optimistic, happy-go-lucky kiddo who is a "Zero To Hero" trope. I know it's dumb but i always crack a smile when he yells "sister!". I dropped it after 10 episodes or so anyway.

>That's the point.
There have been hundreds of characters just like him without sounding like a oil-less engine running on ethanol.

Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation

Not sure if this counts, since it is a genuine chinese cartoon. Still, I thought the first episode is pretty good. It's a little over-produced in some places, but I think that's probably better than looking like boring garbage. You don't really see ancient china as a setting very often, and I'm interested to see if there will be some of their mythology used.

The first episode was 40 minutes long, though, and I also just noticed the shounen-ai tag on MAL, so I don't know. Hopefully the gay will have a decent balance of demons.

It being Chinese the gay will be subdued, subtle, and most confined to making the men overly attractive.

Angolmois - Genkou Kassenki:
Hey this is actually pretty damn good. War in roughly the 1200s. Starts good, and then the fucking mongols arrive over the sea. Not dumb, excellent animation and visual style. I liked this.

Grand Blue:
All relation to real people, events or places contained within this opinion are coincidental and not intended. A diving anime. We'll see if they go diving within 12 episodes. It is extremely clear to say that these characters are all extremely legal to drink. Everything is very exaggerated. I thought it was actually fairly funny, but every joke was ruined by being overplayed. Approximately half way through I actually started to enjoy it. Turns out to be about diving into binge drinking instead of the sea though. Holy shit is there a lot of drinking.

Lord of Vermilion:
This is amazing, it starts bad and it keeps getting worse. whenever I think it can't get any worse it hits new depths of boring garbage. Apologies to the author, he's probably a cool guy, but his work is terrible.

Happy Sugar Life:
Took me a while to figure out what the fuck this was. Succubus described as having a 'revolving door of men' kidnaps a little succubus and holds her in her house. This is pretty depressing. This leaves me with a nasty feeling, which is neat. Would have been improved by having a less edgy OP and pre-OP, so the tonal shift would have more impact. But I actually like this a lot, it's got a weird feeling throughout and it has a great contrast within itself to highlight both extremes. Totally check this out.

Shoujo Kageki Revue Starlight:
Ballet, huh? Animation is good, characters are fun, direction is good. The succubi are fun and have energy, and the show itself is lively with interesting visuals. High budget. Needs deeper characters. With a deeper focus on a fewer number of characters, the extremely impressive action scenes would have more impact and meaning. I'm impressed by this but if they don't develop the characters, all the flair, symbolism, design, etc etc is just meaningless.

Sirius the Jaeger:
Only heavily watermarked trashsubs available. Eh, vampires. Vampires are dumb and edgy. Luckily it portrays vampires as disgusting monsters that need to be destroyed. Era is like 1930's Japan, which is cool. Overall this is pretty damn good. Super solid action.

What anime this season is worth watching? I normally just watch 80’s mecha but last season I made an attempt to watch some spring 2018 anime but I was too depressed and dropped it all even the ones I liked and went back to watching mecha

if you have "high standards" (i.e. you're more skeptical of seasonals) there's probably not much for you, but there's actually a lot of decent/interesting shows this summer. planet with, revue starlight, hataraku saibou, asobi asobase, hanebado, grand blue, and banana fish have all had pretty good starts. all the ones i've listed are all relatively diffeernt from each other, so if your taste isn't too specific, you might find something you like among those.

Try 霞外籠逗留記, 紅殻町博物誌 or 信天翁航海録.

But those are VNs.

Planet With is written by the Lucifer and Biscuit Hammer/Spirit Circle mangaka, adapts his style too. It's fairly formulaic but I still really enjoyed it because it's well done formulaic.
Beyond that Hanebado! is impressive in a lot of respects. I think it's the best anime this season without contest, like I doubt that even the directors/creators would want their underfunded low talent work compared to Hanebado!'s ambition. It's better quality than most anime movies so far.
If you liked Gabriel Dropout then Jashin-chan is the exact same thing.
Angolmois is a fairly straight historical war fantasy with mongols, but I think the best part about it has to be the sound design. Crisp weapon sounds, they did a really good job on those and it helps the violence scenes matter.

>Shoujo Kageki Revue Starlight
This is probably one of my favorites so far this season. I only wish there wasn't the whole debacle going on with the subbing. I've grown too comfy with getting my subs the day a show releases. I guess it will motivate me in my Nihongo studies

Piano no Mori:
Finally caught the last episode. Really enjoyed it. To start with I like classical piano music, but then it's actually wrapped in a solid story about a boy born to a poor family having his talent for piano discovered and being pulled up from where he was comfortable. Had a few moments I really loved, but overall it was great. Apart from the terribad CG. I recommend closing your eyes for those parts since it's the parts where you're supposed to be listening to the music anyway.

Is this how anime stays popular nowadays? Introducing new lewd waifus with no end??? I'm really trying to enjoy this but it's annoying me every goddamn time they do this lewd service.

Pretty sure you have to make a quota in shounen.
I don't think this particular one counts, though.

This is exactly why i dropped it. Starting from the first episode (tall succubi in latex) it is nothing but butts, tits and occasional fights. Fuck this shit.

I guess anime isn't for you.

I like anime and I can enjoy seeing tits and asses, but it is not the right kind of anime for it. It is a motherfucking shonen for kids and I expected it to be without borderline ecchi bullshit.
I may give it another try though

>without borderline ecchi

Didn't the first episode of Naruto feature him turning into a stark naked succubus?

I just found out there's a new attack on titan season, and one from last year. Do they finally start revealing the history of the titans? Or is it the same old boring action filler and melodrama shit? I fell for the normie hype once, I don't wanna do it again.

They revealed the mystery of the titans in the manga a while ago. If your care it's some shit like Humans exist outside the wall and everyone inside the walls are descendants of a titan race or some shit

well I don't read manga, and don't spoil the secret for me goddamn it

Naruto is shit.

If you hovered over the spoiler after I said "If you care" then that's your damn problem.

Don't know what "style and script options" means. I've never seen blacked out text here. Really weird.

Either you're trolling or something weird is going on with your browser.

I stopped caring about it year(s) ago. It turned into political soap opera. [spoiler]They overthrew the king and then story lost its pace.[spoiler/] Did Annie got released from her glass cocoon in prison finally? If so, when? I might resume reading it.

End of Season time. Sad every time.

Jashin-chan Dropkick:
It certainly was cute demons doing cute things. The characters are all endearing, and I liked how Jashin was portrayed as unredeemably devilish. This is excellent, and is full of so many details and fun things that I really would recommend it. The first episode is the worst, unfortunately, but after 11 episodes it's one of those shows where I'm sad that it ended.

Isekai Maou:
Fun, lively, and surprisingly well animated. The tone stayed consistent throughout, with exceptions lightly thrown in for effect. It's a very good dumb harem isekai. It has a plot that's simple and makes sense, it's not offensive, and it embraces the tropes instead of trying to exploit them. Good easygoing anime.

the first titans brainwashed humanity by erasing their memories (by touching them) or something>>27908

Chio-chan's no tsuugakuro:
The manga was authored by a h-manga artist so the designs all feel just that much more lewd than usual. The characters are consistently awful people which makes their interactions entertaining. Doesn't get old throughout, and it remains good even through some dryer sections. Also the end they animated some outtakes, which I've honestly never seen before. Good and worth watching, overall.

I really wasn't expecting to like it that much. The scene backgrounds(especially coffee house scene with the writing on the wall) and voice acting were amazing. Such a simple setup but really well executed, especially that enabler relationship with Medusa. Not enough Cow though, I grew attached to her HEALTHY over the course of the season.
Doesn't seem like it's something that can get a season 2, but it felt a bit more mature than Gabriel Dropout so I'll come back to it in a few years to enjoy it again.

Planet With:
Excellent. Well formed story with progression, characters with depth that grow and change, complex motivations for villians, and so on. Not to mention that it has a satisfying ending that wraps things up, now that's rare. I really like the audio direction, it's got punch to it. Ear rape snake is a perfect example. Would probably have been better if it was longer, since the plot moves pretty fast. This stops it from getting stale or bogged down anywhere but it's pretty breakneck. I wouldn't miss this.

Hyakuren no Haou to Seiyaku no Valkyria:
You're not going to catch me saying that this is good, but it wasn't bad enough to drop, and I dropped a lot of shit this season. Including that Shichisei no Subaru garbage. It has a setting I loved; bronze age warfare. Takes on a strategy-level approach to it. Equipment, training, and layers on tactics. And it's executed in the shallow japanese isekai formula. Unfortunate, but hell, I enjoyed it.

Angelmois - Genkou Kassenki:
Mongols invade Tsushima. Manages to depict skilled warriors without resorting to superpowers and other garbage. Pretty bloody, violent, and has a solid heart to it. Effectively enough makes you care about what's going on, which means that the action is serving the story, woohey. Pretty good overall, definitely interesting if you care about the mongol invasion of Japan at all. They did their best.

I wonder if the timing is somehow related to that upcoming game about the same period.

I pay absolutely zero attention to these things.

I kept reading people saying this was like naruto. I just started watching it and jesus, I know what they mean. It's like they just made a shitty low-effort knock off of naruto with a few other things drawn from other popular shounen. It's so horribly uninspired and literally every aspect of it is worse than naruto even though it's basically the same show underneath.

I just finished watching a video claiming that this show was probably the worst isekai ever made.
And looking at some of the art and the quality of animation I have to agree it looks like total garbage from a animation perspective. I haven't actually watched it so I won't comment on how well the plot is executed or how good/bad the writing is.
It is a hard skip for me. It isn't interesting enough for me to get over the shit animation.

You seem to have some missunderstanding of what isekai means.
It doen't have to be a game/rpg based world.

Also reading through the wiki, no that shit ain't even remotely close to historically accurate on any level. It is a fantasy world with fantasy bullshit going on just like any other fantasy based show. To say it is in anyway historically accurate is probably the funniest thing I have read all night.
It is 100% a isekai
And from every indication it is 100% trash. I just don't feel like watching it to confirm.

You seem to have thoroughly misunderstood my post.

When I say that Valkyria is 'hot isekai garbage' I mean that it is isekai, and it is garbage.
When I say it's 'historically accurate' It's literally in the same sentence as 'Magic is real'. Magic isn't real.

Happy Sugar Life:
This was saved by good direction, for sure. Had some absolutely fantastic moments, but even overall it was good. Starts pretty edgy, and is wobbly especially around the masochistic teacher parts, but it hits the rails again after that and the direction really starts to bloom. The OP is good too. Is worth watching for 'that scene' alone. Overall, tragic. Totally recommended.

Grand Blue:
Not to be confused with Gran Blue. On the last episode they finally go diving. This is basically liver cirrosis the anime. Although really, not being set in a high school is a big plus. Lots of heavy drinking, and apart from the doutei stuff, it's actually pretty funny. The first few episodes they fucked up the timing of the gags which doesn't help but it swings into gear later. Worth watching.

Asobi Asobase:
Consistently funny throughout. One thing needed is to get used to the supernatural elements in this; as ass lasers are real, for example. Production wise, this is decent. However, the seiyuu do a great job here, they really put some lead downrange. Has some weaker moments, but is actually funny most of the time. I would say this was rare but it seems not to be this season. Is a highlight of the season, regardless.

Hataraku Saibou:
Wait, was I being educated about blood cells? Nevermind. Production wise they spent all their money on seiyuus so the animation suffers. But, since they did that, the voice acting is really good, and the cells are cute. I never before thought I'd see lewds of a red blood cell, but that's Japan I guess. Had a nice two episode arc as the final episodes, and they were great. Most of the show suffers from 'here's another bacteria' and a concentration on blood cells. There's a lot of 'here we go again' which isn't the best. But they're cells, they literally do the same thing every day. Still, I liked it quite a lot. Sekkekyu is very cute.

The earrape was real in first several episodes, then they toned it down somewhat.

I wanted to like this one, since it had great production, and very sweaty toned succubi bouncing around. The writing is what murders this, unfortunately. There's a lot of things that have zero meaning to what is going on just thrown about, people turn up as rivals and ruin their respective episodes, and there are some few throwaway lines about talent and hard work that just ruin several key moments. Best parent of the year award goes to Ayano's mother though. She abandons her child to raise a surrogate after Ayano loses a single match, and then doesn't come back for like 4 years while her face and her surrogate are plastered around the badminton world just to rub Ayano's face in it. The best moments were when Ayano was shitting on people. Conflict appears out of no-where and dissolves away inconsistently. Seems like they just wasted a lot of time during the middle episodes when they were pushed for time to get the important things done.

Harukana Receive:
Somewhere in planning: "Why not make every episode a beach episode?" Hey, it worked. While there's only so much that ass can cover up 3DCG sand effects and endless volleyball rallies, the characters warm it up and keep it entertaining. They have a nice little development as they go through their sandy adventures. It's pretty, apart from the sand effects. The action is good too. Hot fucking damn did they know what they were making.

Shoujo Kageki Revue Starlight:
This was a very artistic and ambitious creation, and it mostly succeeded in its lofty ambitions, which is remarkable. I think its biggest mis-step (hard to call it a flaw) is that it tried to introduce the revues and the characters in the same first episode. As a result I was particularly confused for the first 4-5 episodes, and didn't have much engagement with the characters. Especially since the revues themselves contain EXTREME amounts of symbolism, and tie into the real world pretty heavily. Overall; it's great. It gets a bit of a clusterfuck at times, but visually it's great, the singing is great (using actual theatre actors, apparently), the characters.. felt a little flat at first, it took a while for them to round out as people rather than 'this is the posh one', 'these are the childhood friends', etc. The story could have had more weight to it, I think. The characters are forced to fight and betray each other for the amusement of a giraffe ("confused for the first 4-5 episodes") but there's little sense of loss from the characters. At least until near the end, of course. And that's the parts I like the most. Another thing I thought was a negative was that the character interactions felt kinda weird. As if they were a bit cold and shallow, like strangers interacting. Weakened the impact of the story in my view. Probably could have done with a little less symbolism too, since it was overwhelming. It's overwhelming because storytelling is done mostly through the visuals, characters, and what is happening. So the symbolism being overwhelming kinda obscures the story a bit. One thing I loved is that there was no infodump. There was no part where they felt like they had to sit the audience down and baby them with what was going on in these succubus's lives. You almost expect that from anime. Like one of them pulls out a smartphone and rattles off a wikipedia page about urban legends or some shit. None of that shit, thank god. Many things are better shown than explained. Overall, I think you should force yourself to watch this. Even if you don't really like it, the spectacle is worth seeing alone.

I couldn't stomach the platelets. It just seemed like such a fucking hollow attempt to touch my heart strings/dick, and then seeing the internet explode with platelet fan art just soured me on the whole goddamn thing.

First thought you said palettes, and if that was the case I agree with every single word. What's the correct general name for the bloom, gloss, very thin contours and lowered contrast, the most common 2010s graphic style? I really wish they stopped applying so much of it.

New season garbage time:

RErideD - Tokigoe no Derrida:
Starts with a company not knowning about risk management. In the future. The pace is slow enough to build the world enough, which is nice. Guy's name is Derrida. Father's name is Jacques. Whoa man, deep. This is a deconstruction of the time travel genre. I hope at least. Inconsistent physical abilities, too. Apart from silliness, this is actually pretty solid and I liked it. Next episode on when digiridoos attack…

Double Decker! Doug and Kirill:
Animated nicely, and starts off with points since it's not set in a highschool. Tries too hard to be cool. Lots of fancy framing. Worth watching though.

Akanesasu Shoujo:
Hey this is pretty good. succubi are energetic and fun, and there's an actual plot kicking around too. I'm just waiting for it to start getting really dumb, as it never did in the first episode.

File: 1538534104011.png (413.95 KB, 640x360, 16:9, 1473632685230.png) ImgOps iqdb

I'm surprised by the quality of the animation a bit. Obviously it's a little too early to say for sure, since all we've seen is a blue blob and a dragon, but there are immediate and obvious differences when compared to other isekai shows. Deathmarch, Smartphone, and Valkyria all looked cheap as shit from word go.

I've read the manga in the past, and I can say it's pretty good, albeit predictable. It's what you'd expect, but done in an alright way? Another functionally identical manga is about a guy that reincarnates into a goblin (Re:Monster), for example, and by comparison it's night and day. The goblin dude has the same "skill steal" shit, but spends the majority of the time fucking every single succubus in his vicinity. If that manga ever gets a show, isekai will have been beaten to death several times over. The slime is functionally sexless. Even when he gets a human (female) body, his genitals are non-existent. Just smooth skin. I don't remember very many harem scenes, either.
Hopefully, this one is alright.

Kaze ga Tsuyoku Fuiteru:
Yup it's fujoshit. Pretty high class fujoshit though, if you genderswapped all the characters this'd be right down my alley. It does have some running in it, and it's quite good. Surprisingly I might check out the second episode. The soundtrack stands out as being particularly good. Except for the ED, hot garbage.

Jingai-san no Yome:
Pretty funky. However, has the otome-game feeling as each main boy has his own gimmick fashion. I was waiting for it to start and then it ended. Three minutes long, huh. I can stomach that.

Tensei Shitara Slime Datta Ken:
I'm dying…. please…. Delete my porn… Pretty much isekai maou level isekai here. Bored to tears by exposition, and the gamification death-march style. The production is nice but this show makes me a little mad and there aren't enough floppy elf tits to calm me down. Still, not dropped since the exposition seemed to die down, and tsundere dragon was fun.

Seishun Buta Yarou wa Bunny succubus Senpai no Yume wo Minai:
Loses points for being set in a highschool when it didn't need to be. It's not a romance, at least I think. It is good though. The dialogue is pretty witty, and it doesn't feel the need to explain everything in boring long monologues. I'm surprised that I liked it, but it's interesting.

Sora to Umi no Aida:
succubi can go space fishing too! Well without it there'd be no CGDCT in space. The scene transitions, dude. It's like a magikarp edited this. Very fast and energetic. Main character is an amusing level of baka. Makiko's accent is so fucking thick I can't understand a word she's saying. Major points for literally being set in space. Overall thoughts: Excuse me what the fuck?

Zombieland Saga:
Yes, do like. Do much like. Direction is good, tone is great, fun as fuck. Check this out for sure.

Uninteresting samurai fujo schlock. The character's hair shines have symbols in them, which is cute. But gay. The action scenes are unintentionally hilarious. Not enough to actually say this is anything other than dumb garbage.

Tonari no Kyuuketsuki-san:
There are cute succubi. They are doing cute things. I like it. Vampire succubus is just kinda normal and the jokes mostly rely on the human being strange. It's cute and the tone is sweet. The soundtrack is cool since it's got a lot of horror strings.

Hinomaru Sumo:
The OP is 80s and I like it. This is slightly less gay than I anticipated. It's also much better than anticipated. It's pretty clearly shonen though. You can't get around big sweaty half-naked muscley guys slamming into each other without some gay. Good quality sports anime.

Yagate Kimi ni Naru:
succubus tricked by romantic fiction stresses out about how reality doesn't match fiction when guys talk to her. I can't really relate to the characters. But it's well written, got good production and oh well I had the feeling it'd turn into yuri. Highschool yuri romance. It's good but I have zero interest.

Uchi no Maid ga Uzasugiru!:
Punished Satou lives a happy sugar life with her new loli captive. No but really, it's cute, energetic and fun. Uses music in a really fun way. It's really great.

Irozuku Sekai no Ashita kara:
Another 'no reason to be in a highschool' show. There's a point where I was like "Wait what, you mean actual magic and not stage magic?". succubus is sent back to the past to kill her grandmother to stop WW3. Unfortunately only half of that sentence was true. Magic is also commercialised? It's a story about a succubus who learns to see in colour. Not even slightly subtle. Good though.

what is this?

There's only one fantasy show with "slime" in its title this season.

Goblin Slayer:
Sufficiently brutal to make a decent adaptation. Odd use of CGI in some minor scenes that stands out, but in the important scenes the effects are good. As someone that liked the manga, the adaptation is basically an adaptation. It doesn't elevate the material, but it's still decent. So basically, the only good goblin is a dead goblin.

Kishuku Gakkou no Juliet :
Doesn't need to be set in a highschool. Clumsy high-school battle royale. Turns into a highschool comedy romance. Considering the main dude is called Romeo and the main succubus is called Juliet, this is about as subtle as goblin slayer. It's not bad though. I watched the whole episode. It's fun and not particularly serious.

Gakuen Basara:
Set in a highschool. And it doesn't need to be. Oh this is awful.

Set in a highsc- oh wait it's fantasy world. 'Completely meaningless pointless exposition at the start, not a good sign. It's a fantasy world, got it. You could have shown this. Probably a fine kids show but it's boring.

It's not hurt by being set in a highschool. Action sentai, kaijuu, giant robots. That sort of theme. However, it's well directed and the story is unfolded visually and through actions rather than pointless exposition. Even if during the action scenes I'm just reminded about how planet with was better. What I hated most was the deflation after the kaijuu was defeated, and the asspull powerup. I miss Planet With.

Release the Spyce:
Did someone say Japanese highschool? At least it didn't start there. It starts with a dumb action scene that was good. Overall I thought this was great. It's dumb action exceuted flawlessly and with a great deal of charm and attention to detail.

Ulysses - Jehanne Darc to Renkin no Kishi:
Hahaha what the fuck. What's worse is that this is actually fairly decent. There's a story, and characters, and it's almost interesting. The bits where it gets dumb are just dumb enough that they become actually amusing. It's kind of like frozen hitler level entertainment. The OST is actually decent though, I thought it was really good. The handling of historic figures is hilarious and I love it. Henry V is this ikemen pretty boy and it's great.

Himote House:
One of those odd 3D succubi doing things anime. Great change of pace from the usual stuff that airs in a season. I enjoyed it.

Gaikotsu Shoten'in Honda-san:
Why is it always gaijin? A skeleton sells BL books to gaijins. Okay sure, I'm game.

That was the worst part of isekai slime for me. It was like "Damn those shitposting years sure went to good use" and then out of nowhere there was "Skill gain: Shitposting"

Not really. Japan anthropomorphizes the most stupid shit all the time that it's really become mundane.

yeah the skillgiver thingy is too obvious of a deus ex machina. It's literally just like a magic genie with unlimited wishes.

Here's all the anime I've watched that aired in 2018:

Shingeki no Kyojin
Megalo Box
3-gatsu no lion
Shokugeki No Souma
Golden Kamuy
Isekai Maou to Shoukan Shoujo no Dorei Majutsu

2018 anime I dropped:
Ancient Magus' Bride
Sora yori mo Tooi Basho
Houseki no Kuni

Shingeki no Kyojin was pretty boring, it definitely lost a lot of the charm of season 1 but everything else that I didn't drop I liked a lot. Goldeny Kamuy is probably the best of the shows from what I've seen. It has the most unique setting, characters, and plot. I feel like I barely have the energy to watch anime these days so shows like overlord that are just light and fun are actually really appealing because it takes no energy or effort to follow the plot but it's still fun. The Ancient Magus' bride turned out to be a fantasy for succubus to imagine a super magical chad being in love with them for no reason so I dropped it. Sora yori mo tooi basho was just boring as fuck and I dropped houseki no kuni the instant one succubus found out her friend had been turned into a slug and her reaction was to give her a ribbon. The characters in the show just act retarded. I know they're not supposed to be human but then they should have made them actually alien instead of just uncanny valley human school succubi who act retarded about certain things for no reason.

Other than what I've seen what stands out to you as one of the best shows of the year? There's just so much out there I don't know what to watch next.

I loved Overlord as well. Arguably my favorite anime. Can anyone recommend me other anime like that?

You should undrop Houseki no Kuni. Gems are actually just dumb, but that's part of the plot and it really matters later.

Can an entire country become Flanderized?

>Can an entire country become Flanderized?
Hetalia is a thing so yes.

sword art online (bad), Isekai Maou to Shoukan Shoujo no Dorei Majutsu (bad, ecchi), Tensei shitara Slime Datta Ken (alright, currently airing), Goblin slayer (good, currently airing), Youjo Senki (good, set in 20th century).

Anima Yell!:
What the hell is this banshee wailing? Oh it's cheerleading. After pretty much no cute succubus things last season there's so many this season. This is cute and colourful, and is pretty standard. We'll see if this bores me in the later episodes. The music is pretty bad actually.

Imagine being sold in the first 3 seconds. It's all downhill from there though. It's like falling down a flight of stairs. Well the title isn't misleading, so take that in mind. Give it at least 3 minutes 30 seconds. This gives me the idea that I need to make a bingo sheet for new seasons. This'd give me a bingo. Here we go: Highschool, isekai, magic, abduction, dumb fights, katana, superpowered katana, talking mascot character, ikemen, dumb anime clothing, RPG world, Demon lord, chuuni, chosen one(s), harem,
All this said, I'm totally watching this because I want it keep falling down those stairs until I reach the basement. The MC isn't a beta faggot which is a first. One warning though; the chosen one's mission is to literally impregnate 12 preistesses. This is very funny to me.

Karakuri Circus:
Looks like a studio's first go at an anime. It's okay. Not sure if I care or not, but it looks good and the story is put together if cliched.

Youjo Senki is unironically the worst one among those you mentioned.

Try Log Horizon.

Shame, it's quite fun. Nothing worth catching in particular though, unless you'd enjoy an anime about a ruthless commander.

"Awful and lazy" as well as "empty" and "dumb" can also be said about its story, setting and characters.
All in all it's a meme anime that became somewhat popular only because of the edgelord loli main character. Whoever is seriously calling it "good" is either a poltard-type or a hardcore lolicon.

Merc Storia:
Tiny little loli fairy in a bottle. Arguably a jar. Well made, fun, and enjoyable. The idea behind this one is that the main character goes around healing monsters instead of fighting them. Could get good. I'd give it a few episodes to see if it gets really cosy.

Beelzebub-jou no Okinimesu mama:
The colour palette is fucking intense pastels. It doesn't have strong lines to compensate like umihara did.
[X] Cute succubi
[X] Doing cute things
This is extremely sweet. If you have an anime sweet tooth you'll probably like it as it's saccharine as fuck. This is probably the most peaceful depiction of hell that exists, that looks remarkably like Japan.

Otona no Bouguya-san:
This isn't very good. It does have an amateur appeal to it though, and the base story I like; guy wants to make erotic armor for succubi adventurers. It's not bad, but it's short and fairly charming. [Impatient] did a good job with the subs.

zombieland saga ep2 was so much fun. I don't want to spoil it, but if you watch nothing else this season at least watch ep2.

File: 1539454232974.jpg (96.07 KB, 1280x720, 16:9, [HorribleSubs] Zombieland ….jpg) ImgOps iqdb

I'd recommend that viewer watch the first episode too, since it is necessary for full enjoyment of the second. No need to worry too much since the first episode is also great.

Idk, my main issue with the show is that everything just seems so fake and unrealistic for the purpose of creating a highly stylized narrative. I like realistic settings and societies that I can believe actually formed spontaneously. Nothing about a bunch of multicolored gem succubi in schoolgirl outfits fighting random hordes of space aliens that appear in the sky only to be easily defeated seems even slightly plausible. I tried to be as credulous as I could but frankly I couldn't stomach that setting for more than three episodes.

That's a shame. There's a beautiful existential character landscape intertwined with the overly mystical plot.

it was a mistake putting my subjective opinion at the end of the list. i'm just a sucker for 20th century wars.

You're not the only person who liked that part. WW1 didn't happen, but the Vickers come out and there's an aerial component with the mages. It's fairly neat.

I take back what I said.
Turns out the trailer I watched was bad but when I decided to give the show a chance I really enjoyed it alot.
It overall is pretty good.

The lesson I'd learn from this is never watch trailers. I've gone one step further and I don't read the synopsis of shows before watching them either. I barely even read the title. For me these are all sources of bias and I look back and every season there are gems I'd have missed if I didn't watch things because of a trailer or whatever.

Senran Kagura Shiovi Master:
It OPENS with still frames as if they ran out of budget. I checked if this was a sequel of some kind and it was. Whoops. Oh it's a low budget ecchi. Wakarimasu. It's the kind of bad I like but it's spread too thin. Nice nipples though. I wish I was more embarrassed that I kind of like this garbage.

Dakaretai Okoto 1-i ni Odoefijewoijeaoij:
Screams fujoshit. As usual I try and judge it as if the genders were reversed (there are only 2 genders). Don't watch this.

I want to fuck a zombie now. Who conceived such idea for a show?!?

Why are you quoting my post (>>28405) saying you "take it back"?
I watched the show and it IS bad. The lazy unimaginative """alt.history""" setting coupled with cardboard characters and an annoying (and overpowered "just because") protagonist is anything but "good", unless one is weak for this particular kind of aesthetics, as >>28416 already admitted. Or doesn't care about anything as long as there's a loli on the screen. But this is not a SoL nor comedy, this show takes itself seriously while being outright ridiculous.
Remove the protagonist (or turn him into an adult man instead of a loli) and you'll see how you instantly lose interest.

I enjoyed it for similar reason that I enjoyed Code Geass and honestly the shows are both really similar in a lot of ways.
If anything of the two shows it is actually a lot better then Geass in most ways imo.
I would also disagree with your assessments, it isn't lazy or unimaginative in its setting and it in fact does its world building fairly well so far. The the characters are interesting and not "cardboard" at all, and the protag didn't come off as annoying at all. I will agree he/she isn't "good". He/She is lawful evil, which is part of the fun of the show.

No, "copy-paste Europe and add a bit of magic" is not a "fairly good world building" by any definition. It only indicates a lack of imagination and effort from the authors. Especially given that this thing has already been done multiple times in other franchises. That also pertains to the kind of magic made in this show and the way of using it on the battlefield, since it's pretty much a direct copy from Strike Witches and the like, zero personal imagination.

I can also nitpick some particulars:
If the demiurge wanted to punish that fedoratipping salaryman why would he give him those exceptional magic powers? The idea was to make him despair and become pious out of fear, so if he wasn't reborn as a genius he would only be able to win by embracing death which would be a hard fit for a rational down-to-earth norman.
Why would a mostly traditionalist society like early 20th century Germany allow a loli into military (to say nothing of generals), regardless of how "gifted" she was? The show could skip some time until she's older, but nooo they needed a loli on the battlefield because otherwise nobody would be watching this piece of crap.
Why do the weapons of the magic users look like actual German rifles of the period when it is even explicitly stated that they are in fact a kind of wands? Why would the pragmatic German military-industrial complex waste time and resources to make what is essentially magic-focusing rods into replicas of rifles used by generic infantry? But nooo, it would be way harder for ミリオタs to cum their panties otherwise.
The list can go on.

But of course all of this would be fine(-ish) if the show didn't take itself so seriously, which it unfortunately does.

Why would anyone use mechs especially when air suport is a thing?
Near future japan sci-fi with bits of magic has been done since the 70s
Why did CC do anything she did in the show?

You get where I am going with this.
Most of your criticisms are pretty shallow and come down to you taking issue with the style of show it is rather then more objective qualities.
At the end of the day it doen't matter anyway. If you can't for whatever reason enjoy the show then I guess that sucks for you. I had a blast watching it.

Hey, I like this show too, thanks for mentioning it. I actually found the first episode funnier but the second was great too.

>Why would anyone use mechs especially when air suport is a thing?
Because they are highly versatile units. If highly efficient alternative sources of fuel (which are usually featured in mecha anime) existed IRL, something similar to mechas would probably be created.
But I'm not a mechafag or even a sci-fi fan, so I won't argue about that.
>Why did CC do anything she did in the show?
I watched Geass too long ago to remember the details and I'm not a fan of that show. If I were I sure as heck wouldn't discuss it with someone who unironically compares it to seasonal one-shots like Youjo Senki, and in favour of the latter no less.
>Most of your criticisms are pretty shallow and come down to you taking issue with the style of show it is rather then more objective qualities.
What "objective qualities"? The show utterly failed to provide any engaging story or in-depth world-building despite pretending to be serious and shit. Everything is held together by the edgelord protagonist who is also the show's fetish-focus. Remove her and everything falls apart, because nothing is even worth remembering there - all the other characters are one-dimensional, all the drama forced, all the fantasy aspects dull and unimaginative. And to top everything off the show had a gay "to (never) be continued" open ending.
All in all the whole thing felt like watching a loud angry kid in flashy clothes playing in a sandbox alone.
>I had a blast watching it.
Oh, I'm perfectly fine with that. Don't get me wrong, I was just triggered that it was brought up as an example of "good isekai" and put in line with actually good (or at least decently watchable) fantasy shows.

Bad world building isn't an objective quality folks. If you see another copy paste medieval Tolkien fantasy, "It's uninspired and derivative and does nothing unique to stand out," is not an actual criticism apparently.

It's more important to pay attention to what the creator did with the copypaste setting rather than the fact it's copypaste. There's a lot of just generic backgrounds, and it's the development of them that makes things different from each other. Besides, if copypaste worlds bothers you, anime might not be the best thing to watch. 50% is set in a highschool, 40% is set in an fantasy RPG world, and the last 10% is 'Misc'

>it's the development of them that makes things different from each other
Exactly. And I wasn't complaining about variety here. I'm also of the opinion that that "delivery" is more important than originality in anime. So, it's absolutely fine for a setting to be inspired by things or resembling them to an extent, as long as there is at least an attempt to mix something in in order to produce at least a slightly different flavour. So, speaking of 20th century Europe, a perfect example of an actually good setting derived from it would be Valkyria Chronicles - clearly European aesthetics yet enough additions and alterings to make it into a viable fantasy. Youjo Senki on the other head is among those shows that offer nothing but copypaste and even that is sloppily delivered. In fact, the premise of a demiurge sending a fedoratipper to "suffer" (yeah, by giving him superpowers, lol) into a war-torn slightly edited past is the only thing close to attempt at originality or artistic effort in it.

If you did something interesting with it, then it wouldn't be getting called out for being derivative garbage.

>anime might not be the best thing to watch

I haven't actively watched it for a few years now. Youjo Senki was some of the last garbage I saw (and dropped)

>actually good setting
>Valkyria Chronicles
It's literally !Europe except everyone's fighting over !unobtanium. It's just as bad as YS.

File: 1539539738540.jpg (139.77 KB, 1280x720, 16:9, 503748-valkyria-chronicles….jpg) ImgOps iqdb

Nope, it has entirely different history, ethnic composition, geographic terrain (literally a sandy desert around where Belarus would be irl), political map, uniforms, weapons, etc.
Valkyrian architecture is also completely otherworldly/fantasy-esque.
It has enough to stand on its own.

That's why I called it !Europe, they essentially "reskin" (like 'different' zombie apocalypse stories where zombies are called like rotties and rotties are different from regular zombies because of [insert gimmick]) a bunch of things to make it appear different than the dumbed down !WWII retelling with magic it actually is. And giant random desert/tundra/etc placed randomly onto !Europe without regards to if it geographically makes sense is one of the top indicators of shit worldbuidling.

It might be "shit" in absolute sense if you compare it with worlds built from scratch, but it is definitely better than just mindless "alt.history" copy-paste.
Even FMA world had its nations bear resemblance to certain rl ethnicities despite having a completely own geography. As one wiz above said, it is dumb to expect total originality from anime, but whenever there is at least an effort to make such it should be appreciated.

>it is definitely better than just mindless "alt.history" copy-paste
Except that's practically what it is.

>Even FMA world had its nations bear resemblance to certain rl ethnicities

FMA's worldbuilding went deeper than just changing a names around and adding in magic. And I'm not saying every fantasy world in fiction has to be built from the ground up like Middle Earth, hell if the story/gameplay were actually good I'd even excuse it. But it's not. VC has a shitty story and mediocre gameplay while YS is just shit that gets praised because crazy loli protagonist.

>whenever there is at least an effort to make such it should be appreciated.

Being derivative isn't making an effort, and making an effort means fuck all if you still fuck up.

Well, I agree with your way of thinking, but you take it a little too far imo. With such unreasonably heightened standards it's hardly possible to enjoy anime at all (although you did say you stopped actively watching it, so everything makes sense).

How did I "take it too far"? I don't even have high standards. If a story's competent and well executed I'll give it a pass. If it's bad, then I'll say it is.

In my opinion you are being unreasonably harsh on Valk.

I'm not, but whatever.

Something being similar to something else doesn't make it bad by default.
>he thinks mechs, especially big mechs like in Geass, are in any way practical
> I was just triggered
but seriously all of the problems you have with the show are ether debatable or personal preference related. You getting this asspained over someone saying it is good is a little silly.
For example what is or isn't a "engaging story" seems to come down to taste. Obviously the people who enjoyed it found it engaging.
>it dosn't have in death world building
So the homebrew politics, alt-countries, detail national policies, military structure, tactics, semi-detailed magical system, alternative technological system, and culture that all fit together in a coherent fashion isn't in-depth to you? I think there is a lot of depth and creativity that you are glossing over or discounting simply because you dislike other unrelated elements of the show.
Manly the tone and the protag.

It does when it's completely uninspired and worse than what it's trying to copy.

>saging on a thread past the bumplimit

It doesn't appear to be full on copying anything and it is far more creative and well constructed they you are willing to give it credit for.

Copying was the wrong word, more so using common archetypes and using them in a worse way than normal.

>willing to give credit for
If there was anything to give credit for, I would. There isn't, so I didn't.

Such as?
Any examples of what you are talking about?

And now you are just being a jackass for no reason.

If we're talking about flying military succubi with magic guns then at least Strike Witches and Shuumatsu no Izetta already did that before. If we are talking about early/middle 20th century Europe setting, there are tons of titles. Just the hilarious fact that you compare YS to Geass of all things indicates that you simply haven't got enough baggage to make sound comparisons. This is not /a/ and not a place to call out newfags, but seriously - at least seek out and watch more anime with "military" tag if you really care that much and want to sound competent on this particular subgenre.

Is some nigga ITT really trying to argue that yojou senki is better than code geass? What the fuck is wrong with him

I'm only 5 episodes in, but so far Grancrest Senki seems pretty similar.

Code geass wasn't that good either, so it's not the worst argument. Besides, the argument is that Code Geass had less lazy world building. Which isn't clear cut either since you can't really get more lazy than Britannia. Not that I'm defending either as not lazy, I like both. Code Geass because that dumb world is the background for a pretty funny keikaku thriller, and Senki because it's a loli ordering artillery barrages on civilians. They're both reasonably good.

I compared them because thematically they are similar despite being ascetically divergent.
You are overly hung up on superficial visual similarities shared among huge genres yet fail to see the things that actually make something derivative in story or characters.

>If we are talking about early/middle 20th century Europe setting, there are tons of titles.

Nice trying to over generalize what is actually a fairly unique setting, which is a completely alt-history version of Europe focused on the alt-not German side around the lead up to world war 1 with a few very important changes that are followed to their logical conclusion. Details matter yet you intentionally ignore them to play up the superficial similarities between shows that on closer inspection aren't similar at all.

Another update from the new season. It's been 3 weeks and I can't find any other 01s so I'll finish with this one:
Ore ga Suki nano wa Imouto oh fucking hell this title goes on forever:
Be careful when you stare into the abyss of bad LN adaptations because the abyss stares back. It's drawn by like 3 people and it really shows. The content is tripe, but for some reason I'm watching it. It's enjoyably bad. The animation gets remarkably awful and it's charming. It's adorably bad.

One more
High grade fujoshit - Set in a highschool so that kyoani doesn't implode. Not bad (with the caveat; if the genders were reversed) but kyoani needs to give it a fucking rest with the leaves. The usual kyoani 'overdo everything' applies.

They don't stop!
Kitsune no Koe:
Male idolshit. Fujoidolshit. Don't. Forget you read this. Forget this exists.

Ingress the animation:
Starts with the classic mistake of exposition. Start with characters. Is full CGI and I thought; this needs to have a really good story or have something really interesting about it to compensate, like Ajin did. Watch Ajin, it's good and the manga is too. I gave this a chance. Overall it's actually well directed and nicely put together. Also surprisingly it has an amazing OP. I'd say; check this out and give it a chance, since it's okay.

>Phantom of the Twilight:
> dumb yaoishit from the title and that's exactly what this is.

Goblin Slayer is pretty tame, no idea why normans from social networks flipped their shit because of it. I mean come on, even Overlord was way more graphic than this yet hardly anyone complained about it afaik.

In context a lot of normies walked into the show blind and got triggered hard because they have the mental durability of a small child.
It is mainly crunchyroll's fault because of the way they advertised the show and gave it a rating of G because apparently they don't even look up or watch the shows they stick up on their website, and apparently snowflakes and casuals really do need content warning.
Still, the drama around the show is pretty funny and yeah, the show isn't that bad.

It's a pretty cosy fantasy adventure goblin slaying thing.

Honestly I was a little disappointed because someone IRL described it to me as what would happen if Doom Guy was isekai'ed to a generic fantasy land and instead of demons his beef was with goblins.
Obviously that is not what the show it. I mean it is still ok, but no where near as cool as what I though I was getting due to someone exaggerating.

File: 1542398102521.jpg (188.53 KB, 1920x1080, 16:9, 3d cgi.jpg) ImgOps iqdb

Someone on the inside said what we all think about (bad!)3d cgi anime scenes.

File: 1542861937060.jpg (58.74 KB, 480x416, 15:13, 1481887726767.jpg) ImgOps iqdb

The exposition in this show is fucking absurd.
At this agonizingly slow pace, they could stretch the manga out into four seasons.

Anime is starting to end for this season so I'm thinking of making a new thread.
If there are no objections I'll make one tomorrow.
