Escaflowne thread?

Went into this blind after looking to explore the Mecha genre separate from Gundam. I was pleasantly surprised with the solid pacing and unique presentation, it's a great show to immerse yourself in, great for escapism.

I remember seeing this on TV as a kid but the memories are foggy. I thought the idea of mechs using big cables as weapons was cool. I should rewatch it. I never caught the whole thing but always thought it was neat and looked slick

Solid pacing? Now that's a new one. The series progression is often cited as one of the weaker aspects of Escaflowne, due to the fact that it was cut short to 26 episodes as opposed to the original 39.

Anyway, what did you think of the movie? Did you watch it?

I have major ADD so the fact that shit was always happening made this "long" show bareabe, but I do appreciate that some plot beats weren't allowed a moment to breathe before the show moved swiftly on to other things, a shame considering how much I love the theme

Really? I thought only popular tv anime got movies. It could explain while the movie changed so much of the characters and story though. I disliked the movie as it watered-down the character design (no distinct noses) and made the personalities a caricature of the tv counterparts. The movie OST especially Black Escaflowne was lit though.

I'm not sure if this is my favorite mecha or not. The number of anime and things that I enjoy in general seems to be decreasing so who knows if I would even still like this show if I watched it again.
