Yeah, I have been lifting for 2 years now with good results. I use a scale to measure most of what I eat and cronometer.com to register it. That way I can control my weight pretty well. I started that at 28 and now I'm 30. I was skinnyfat back then but now I have a good shape and I'm still getting better.
