Unhealthy people, why don't you listen to medical advice and not eat mcdonald's every day? Alcoholics, why do you drink yourself to oblivion knowing it's unhealthy for you? Smokers, why do you smoke know the plethora of health risks associated with it?

 No.275386

Basically, why do you spite so much research? Do you think that you're different?

 No.275391

Dying, being in pain, feeling down and stupid… Not anything to be worried about for someone who has lost interest in what life has to offer. While not all wizards are unhappy, the fact that we have /dep/ is proof alone that many of us here are at the end of our ropes. Healthy lifestyle or not, if the times are bad and staying bad, why abstain from the few things that offer immediate pleasure? Drugs, junk food, and alcohol are accessible - a great change of lifestyle and living conditions isn't. If reaching for the easy path to gratification kills us a few years sooner, then all the better, because life wasn't worth hanging on to anyway.

While exercise and proper diet are also easy to achieve and have the potential to boost one's spirit, the aforementioned vices are just too easy to grasp. A limping animal will always chose the beaten path, even if it leads to prey, or something.

Then once hooked it feels bad to stop.

Alcohol withdraw can suck so bad it can literally be fatal if done improperly.

Nicotine is physically addictive and takes weeks for before the body acclimatizes to not having that substance.

Suddenly cutting down calories after being adapted to be used to huge amount of calories feels like starvation despite the body not actually being at risk.

It is painful enough that once people are on the wagon if they are avoidant of short term pain then they will continue the harmful behavor to avoid withdraw.

>Nicotine is physically addictive and takes weeks for before the body acclimatizes to not having that substance.
I have tested this. Many times I've smoked like crazy for months and then stopped for months. There was no withdrawal. Nicotine addiction is psychological.

 No.275460

>>275453
the majority of people can’t control themselves is why it’s ‘addictive’, it only takes a small amount of mental fortitude to get through most drug withdrawals, most people will simply choose to keep doing the thing because they can and they want to avoid a short amount of time in which they feel unwell. For example I’ve withdrawn from amphetamines multiple times and it sucked but I got over it, and I didn’t run out either, I just decided I didn’t want to take them so I didn’t, make a choice stick with it, easy.

 No.275461

Not zero.
Same as the odds that you could just be lying to make a point since there is a equal level of evidence.

 No.275462

>>275460
How much were you using exactly, like what was the dose, and how long had you been using?

Not all drug use patterns are equal, and that is ignoring biological variation and environmental factors. All those things play a significant role.
Again ignoring that your anecdote could just be made up.

 No.275463

>>275462
4-5 months at the most of medium level doses of various amphetamines like ritalin/adderall/vyvanse, stopping them sucked and I felt awful but I just didn’t want to take them anymore so I just didn’t. I’m pretty sure most people feel the same feelings but just have no self control, so as soon as they feel bad they just scurry back to their drug because they can and it’s always available. All it takes to quit a drug is to stop, and when you feel bad you tell yourself “I don’t feel bad it’s just the drugs I’ll be back to normal in a couple weeks”

 No.275464

>>275461
Yeah that's right, the only explanation is I'm either a liar or a metahuman. There's a likelier explanation: that nicotine addiction is a big lie started by prejudiced special interests and the average person is of such low IQ that he believes it and just imagines his withdrawal.

i never planned to live long
living to old age seems more trouble than its worth since you will also be gaining less pleasure than you can get while younger as well
growing old, frail, weak, and dumber every day until you get alzheimers or dementia seems even worse than a few bad habits or a lifetime of chores needing to upkeep your vessel

it is a rush when college age snot nosed brats come begging for understanding of something and sit at my feet, freely you have received, freely give .

>The struggle for definition is veritably the struggle for life itself. In the typical Western two men fight desperately for the possession of a gun that has been thrown to the ground: whoever reaches the weapon first shoots and lives; his adversary is shot and dies. In ordinary life, the struggle is not for guns but for words; whoever first defines the situation is the victor; his adversary, the victim. For example, in the family, husband and wife, mother and child do not get along; who defines whom as troublesome or mentally sick?… [the one] who first seizes the word imposes reality on the other; [the one] who defines thus dominates and lives; and [the one] who is defined is subjugated and may be killed

Impulsive people are emotionally detached from rational thought. Their desire to fulfill their addiction simply outweighs the desire to act based on knowledge. What you're missing is that they are both desires; regardless of a person's knowledge or intelligence, their emotional landscape can still be geared toward short-term relief and euphoria.

i have relearned a hard truth, Dr's and er's are lying greed hogs that root in the trough of your insurance.
i suffered for 23 years with meds i never needed that half killed me.
i finally got an honest Dr that changed my RX and now i can walk and function w/o pain or disability.
the Dr's out here are almost all crooks who know more about investment than medicine.
my new Dr actually gives a damn !
if medical fraud were seriously investigated 98% of Drs would be in prison
for life.
i have my life back, but lost 23 years of my health due to their corruption.

>Unhealthy people, why don't you listen to medical advice and not eat mcdonald's every day?
Because delicious food is a very powerful coping mechanism.
If I had to stop eating, couldn't masturbate, no videogames, no internet then I might as well kill myself if there wasn't something to occupy that time.
I'm not saying that without those things I would rope, but there must be a replacement for all those diversions. I did a stint in air force basic training and it wasn't bad.
