Understanding the Teen Brain

It doesn’t matter how smart teens are or how well they scored on the SAT or ACT. Good judgment isn’t something they can excel in, at least not yet.

The rational part of a teen’s brain isn’t fully developed and won’t be until age 25 or so.

In fact, recent research has found that adult and teen brains work differently. Adults think with the prefrontal cortex, the brain’s rational part. This is the part of the brain that responds to situations with good judgment and an awareness of long-term consequences. Teens process information with the amygdala. This is the emotional part.

In teens' brains, the connections between the emotional part of the brain and the decision-making center are still developing—and not always at the same rate. That’s why when teens have overwhelming emotional input, they can’t explain later what they were thinking. They weren’t thinking as much as they were feeling.

A Teen’s Brain Isn’t Fully Developed Until Age 25

Even though your teen is now as tall as you are it doesn’t mean that they have fully matured. Even though your teen may score high on the SAT or the ACT, it’s important to remember that a teen’s brain is still under development. In fact, if your child is a teenager, then you can bet that parts of their brain still need to grow and mature. For instance, there are obvious differences between the brains of adults and adolescents indicating that change, maturity, and transformation are still underway in teens.

Brains of Young Adults Not Fully Mature

At an age when Americans are first considered adults, their brains are still maturing, a new study suggests.

"The brain of an 18-year-old college freshman is still far from resembling the brain of someone in their mid-twenties," said Craig Bennett, a graduate student who was involved in the new research. "When do we reach adulthood? It might be much later than we traditionally think."

The answer will be the same as it was in the last 7 threads you made about this

Make Wizchan 21+ and white only.

Understanding the underdeveloped brown brain is tantamount to the survival of Wizchan itself.

1abd9 No.62423

you really think the brown pedophile fuckwits running this dumpster fire into the ground will move the age farther from being a legal minor?

Teenager, please.

it should be 25+ at the bare minimum. that would mitigate a lot of angst, horniness and boring ol discussion about community college.

no 18 y/o uses R9K anymore, they're all on discords and the fortnight fan forums. the only guys on /r9k/ are the guys who are so disgusted with fortnight that they avoid all those circlejerks.

You implying this is bad is a rule 4 and rule 5 violation.

No shit, retard. Plenty of underage people use imageboards. You can tell they are underage from more than them just admitting as much so frankly.

The wiz boys in the lab have been working on penile biometrics for a while. They've said penile plethysmography and ultrasonography combined with electroencephalography data could provide a constant wand authentication while browsing the website.

The advances in-browser bluetooth device APIs has allowed the easy connecting to medical devices so the project is coming closer to reality. Plug and play wand authentication is no longer a pipe dream.

I'm just going to say this and hope that it makes enough sense to be understood.
You're on Wizardchan. You're on a website full of many, many exceptions to the rules as it is, as we all fly in the face of what's socially acceptable or appreciated. Age has never had anything to do with how we turned out, and I'm sure some of us undoubtedly knew as children that we'd end up like this (I know for a fact that I did).

Instead of trying to ban people based on their ages or focusing on that particular doomed idea, why not just ban people who make low quality threads and double down on that notion? It's far more productive, it's actually feasible, and you can actually tell when someone is being a low-effort nuisance who isn't interested in actually gelling with the community whatsoever and just uses this place as a garbage dumb away from their garbage dumps on 4chan and Reddit.

I understand the value of flying under the radar and keeping Wizardchan small but I don't think putting up even more regulations for posting is going to help, especially if they're as unrealistic as this. Surely in today's era, there are even more younger people like us solely because of the completely abhorrent social conditions? Why turn them away, as long as they're not using this place as their small-time /r9k/ or subreddit? Obviously, they should be 18+ but there's never been a way to verify that beyond someone outing themselves as being younger than that.

Besides, how many of us were actually that age when we started coming here? If I remember right, I was in my early 20s, and this place helped me through some very tough times. I'd hope we would be willing to keep extending such a helpful hand to a more and more disenfranchised, disenchanted youth.
