How do you look back at the early 2000s now? Specifically the years 2001-2006?

 No.147751

Interesting. I think the era was either full of Guido Chads or depressed numetal/emo type of people. Everyone seems to be depressed possibly from the turn of the century or 9/11. Every media is shot in newyork inner city evem the music videos which i find cool.

It was a shitty time period to be sure.

-WWE although having the semi decent post Attitude Era, Ruthless Aggression era was soon to have that fizzle out into the shitty C-Nation (John Cena era) PG "WWE Universe" (a truly gag inducingly lame name/phrase) due to WCW going out of business and WWE no longer having any competition to keep them on their toes (and from fucking over their fanbase with retard tier tripe fit only for soccer moms and six year olds).

-9/11 the next big shitty Jew false flag mass murder spectacle after ZOG's precursor which was the Oklahoma City bombing false flag.

-Terrible shitty Bush era presidency but then both major establishment political parties are controlled by Jews and all "top" candidates of course are mass murdering criminals that belong in super max prisons but I digress.

-The artificial rise to superstardom of the pre-eminent archetypal angry beta male fag Feminem whom Jew mass media MTV among others relentlessly pushed down our collective throats at the goading of former NWA/Death Row nigger Dr. Dre. The murders of 2pac and to a lesser extent Notorious BIG produced an unfortunate talent vacuum in the music industry that hack non talent pieces of shit like this would soon fill (like so much excrement in a toilet) but fortunately Feminem is now being seen for the hack that he is FINALLY after all this time, although due to a decrease in national intelligence level, due to both a drop in educational standards and the increase in naturally low IQ non whites, it sadly took far longer for this realization to develop than it did for Vanilla Ice.

-While I concede that Nu-metal bands are/were largely comprised of faggots with bad haircuts, the incessesant whining hatred towards these bands from message board metal heads certainly soured me to this particular time period as the whines were non stop albeit valid. That said Nu Metal music itself didn't actually bother me personally and I thought some of it (Sevendust in particular) was quite good and yes Fred Durst is/was a detestable faggot but some of Limp Biskit's music I found to be alright as well though Fred's insistence on fitting in with niggers via collaberative efforts came off to me as goony and obnoxious and every other annoyance word one can think of. Also of note of this time period was the oldschool message board metal fans absolute raging hatred towards the band "Staind" and emo culture/music in general. I liked some of Staind's stuff personally but again see the metaller's point about the band or lead singer coming across as whiney and weak.

-Save for Halo, GTA Vice City and Elder Scrolls Oblivion gaming largely sucked during this era with Nintendo absolutely ruining the Zelda series with that shitty Wind Waker and continuing to deny fans of the prefererred 2D Mario instead opting to make that piece of gay shit Mario Sunshine and the accompanying annoying phrase popular on message boards at the time "Shine Get!" Ugh. Almost as puke inducing as the "WWE Universe" PG era phrase if not moreso.

-The Sopranos HBO show was perhaps the only saving grace of this abysmal time period as it pertains to being provided genuine entertainment once the WWE Ruthless Aggression era finally was replaced by C-Nation and the Universe. Yuck!

It was going fine until kike/11 ruined everything, got the whole cuntry obsessed with seeing imaginary "tursts" everywhere – as their retarded shit president called them. Turned my city in particular into a treeless open-air prison. Then when "a-rab tursts" somehow morphed into "lone white males" and I couldn't step foot outside the house without getting harassed by all the super vigilantes and pigs.

I don't think castlevania died until a couple years after that. The DS trilogy was still really good, especially Ecclesia.
But you're dead on with all the others.

Mario Sunshine came out in 2002, and every 3D Mario after that isn't very good.

In terms of big franchises there's also Wind Waker (2002), which was great but I don't think the Zelda franchise really shat itself until Skyward Sword. And Majora's Mask is a better game anyway IMO (I guess that was a 2000 title too).

Also most of your examples are estabished franchises which peaked at this time but it was also (I think) the peak period for innovation in games. This was during what was easily the most massive technological leap video games ever saw, and everyone was seeing what they could do with the new firepower.
There were so many new (BIG new, not little side projects) titles during this period that weren't just iterations of an old series. Sly and R&C were both new. Burnout was new. SSX was new. Halo CE was new.
And then there was a bunch of really innovative shit like Katamari or Rez as well as a thousand other obscure little minor classics nobody remembers.

Of course there was a lot of shit published too, but even that is absolutely dwarfed by the amount of shit available today because of the insane quantities of diarrhea the indie scene puts out.

I was at highschool in 01-03 so horrible. Internet was primitive, both the amount of stuff available and speed were nothing compared to today. I remember I could literally read every manga scan groups released back then (it was like a couple dozen scanlations on irc but really only band of hawks and omanga were doing interesting titles) and the quality was not that great either. There was no YouTube or similar services decent enough so we were watching gifs or 15 seconds movs you would download from websites. The process of downloading like a dozen of those would take you about a hour. The difference from then to today is like the difference between Radio era and the advent of TV.
The good things we had back then internetwise are still here today so there's nothing to miss about. Things like emulators, manga scans, forums (in one way or another), chiptunes music. And they all improved in the last decade, except for N64 emus, unfortunately.

Now, about video-games. WOW killed a much superior game, Ultima Online, both simplifying what an RPG is suppose to be and at the same time bringing in tons of people who had never played tabletop games before playing electronic RPGs, which effectively killed much of the roleplaying aspect online RPGs could have had. And I don't think it's ever coming back. It's effectively dead. It's funny when you hear something "on this server you must role play" when this was just how you played an RPG back in early 1999, 2000. Not that I hold a grugde against it, but the culture of MMORPGs that wow brought about made impossible for UO players to transition to another game. I think it was for the best though, in retrospect. I needed to quit anyway.

As for single player games, well, if you liked then back then, you can continue to play them today. I don't think the gaming industry got worse, at least for my own tastes. The Total War series keeps improving, though recently I can't run the newer installments anymore because I can't afford anything better than this ancient rig. AoE series keeps pretty much the same, it's just the novelty is over now. Same with Paradox games. Nintendo games are still cute and fun for what they are. Some times they miss, some times they get just right, but mostly their games don't change that much either. New and crazy clones of Tetris, Arkanoid and Ice Climber still gets released like crazy, can't keep up with it anymore, so that's good. Sonic Mania is probably the best Sonic I played and I love Sonic 2 and 3 to death. I think the only games that got worse is Fallout and Goemon who is effectively defunct unless someone purchases the IP from Konami. Stronghold too is dead which is a pity. I think the biggest shame is the death of Arcade games. Not just Arcade stores but the culture of arcade who got replaced for most part with smartphone gaming, which is ABSOLUTE SHIT. To imagine you had things like Metal Slug as a way to grab your money. The quality of those games are decisively superior to the coin grabbers you have today. But they're still releasing KOF and Slugs to I guess it's not too bad.

As for manga, I was never into seinen and shounen stuff so I'm pretty much unaffected by the whole cute succubi doing cute things that changed the scene of manga for an older audience in general. I just read corocoro stuff pretty much so, whatever. And now I can actually read some Japanese and of course it's a million times better than it was for me 15 years ago. I keep finding some stuff from the 30s available for free online and it's awesome. Anime I don't really care about it at all so that's another thing I didn't keep track. But the fact you now have charts of upcoming released and sites that keep track of absolutely everything under the sun must be pretty nice for people who enjoy anime.

Things that I ACTUALLY miss about early 2000s; My health was A LOT BETTER. Both mentally and physically. I held a job in 2005 believe it or not, for a full year, working at a cyber cafe and all the funny stories about people outside my family is from that short window in my life. Relationship with my parents were also better of course, since I had a job and was still young enough to be seen as "young man trying figure it out what he wants". Nobody thinks that way towards a guy in his 30s whose last job was well over a decade ago. My family was better financially as well. So I think to sum it up, digital life improved while real life took a nose dive. Fuck me.

>>147761
Castlevania is lively then ever, if you really, truly enjoy the vania gameplay there are tons of good games out there. Plus with the whole fan funding these days you get things like Bloodstained. I don't know how old you're but I think much of that list is nostalgia. Pokemon is virtually the same game since the very first installment. In fact I think Sun and Moon has a bunch of designs that blow the previous titles out of the water. Specially for the starters. Age of Empires continues to be the same game pretty much It's just not novelty anymore. It's going to be tough to make something better than RE4 but it will come eventually. RE7 was not bad at all for example.

>>147765
>every 3D Mario after that isn't very good
Yeah that's what my brother says too. Except he doesn't even play Mario anymore for like 10 years now. Are you doing the same thing? Because if you compare Mario 64 with Mario Odissey it's very easy to see the massive improvements, making it Odissey an effectively better game. Sure you're not playing as a kid with a whole future ahead of you and that takes a huge toll on ANYTHING you do, but hey, it's not the game's fault.

Besides, about the nintendo stuff, the fact you can pirate games and play the whole library, both from East and West games for free alone is reason enough to prefer a 3DS over Gameboy any day. Not to mention you can have to whole GB, GBC, GBA library inside your 3DS, which I do in fact.

I didn't live the early 2000s as a kid like most of people here (no offense, since being a kid at some point in time shouldn't be taken as an offense by anyone) so my experience is more grounded in reality than nostalgia. I can't imagine how people old enough to experience early internet as an adult actually think the tiny, slow and empty internet from 2001 is better than what it is today. It simply wasn't. There were less content, less entertainment, more expensive, slower, browsing was limited in so many ways that just listing the improvements of browsers would take a whole book.

This wiz >>147759 complains about shit he can avoid 99% of the time if he just stopped going to places that makes him angry. Which is pretty much what I do. >>147761 complains about stuff he can avoid completely if he stops playing shitty games. Which, well, it's what I do too. For example, when they announced Fallout is now a multiplayer game. Right there it's the end of Fallout for me. Good ridance. You just wait a while and something else will come up. Just don't fucking play it and complain about it. And if you do play it, ffs don't give your money away. Thanks to the new internet you can easily pirate everything super quick and easy.

I've experienced this when WOW changed the Online RPG culture we had up to that point. If you go to old forums and stuff you'll find plenty of old people complaining how WOW killed all the good and sacred stuff we had before it. But guess what, people itt talk about WOW vanilla like it's something amazing. This gives you some perspective. Besides you can still play UO today, it's just many people don't want to anymore.

But interesting to see how my post looks so alien to the point you can only assume I'm just lying about it. Holy shit.

Castlevania never really went bad as a game.

The gameplay has always been good save for perhaps the 3D variants the series has experimented with at times.

No.

The real problem with Castlevania has been the faggy anime influence that has crept in and what I mean by that is the series started with hyper masculine Belmont characters that closely resembled Arnold Schwarzennegger's Conan the Barbarian character from the 80's which ever so gradually got replaced by barely closeted homosexual nu-male university student characters. Yuck!

Well that or the scrawny soyboy manlet esque characters.

Thats whats really taken the series downhill.

Konami needs to go back to the hypermasculine drawing board/route and leave the fags behind.

Its just not believable in any sense that some ramen noodle slurping university student obvious (but closeted) queer can take down an ancient evil like Dracula.

There's just no way, no how.

Its far more believable for a suicidal wizard from /dep/ for example to take down the count rather than one of the afforementioned fags.

What I really did enjoy about the internet back then was- if you're mentioning gifs and youtube,

while dial-up sucked, there were alternate sites like albinoblacksheep or newgrounds. When I think of the early-mid 2000s, I think of flash cartoons mostly. Thats what people watched before youtube and there were a lot of creative things happening in that.

Like half the time, the graphics wernt even good (anyone remember 8bit theatre? I know that was a stylized comic, but still- at best, graphics in flash videos sucked).

Because of that, anyone could make videos, and it was only when youtube gained prominance and the standard for flash video graphics became steeper and steeper did people really stop making them.

I miss newgrounds, badly.

The other aspect of the internet was myspace and there were a lot of interesting bands on there for me. The meme "everyone has an online band or soundcloud" didnt seem to be true, and it seemed like a treat to find your local band or scene and it just seemed like people put a lot more purpose in their music.

 No.147786

>>147770

Agreed. it was more arcane/widardly tbh. There wasnt as much content or stuff to do online and it wasnt as normalized, so if you were making content (like newgrounds flashvideos or some online comics or what have you- or your own custom site with w.e you wanted to host), it was a lot less standard

The ideal of male beauty in Japan has been androgynous for quite a while. The conan the barbarian style Simon Belmont simply stems from Jap artists ripping off American comics and movies.
Besides even the more recent castlevania characters don't ALL look like fags. Even your pic is pretty tame as far as faggotry goes. Don't forget they're supposed to be inspired by European nobility, so yes, a little flamboyant.

2003 was around the time I pretty much dropped out of society, beyond the bare minimum of holding an overnight shift job. Since mid-2007 I've been full NEET and haven't looked back.

I don't get what people see in nostalgia for anything since 1980 or so. Society has been such dreck for such a long time and happy memories are few, far in between, and weren't even all that great when I honestly look at them.

Nowadays I don't even pay attention to what's popular, and it wasn't until last year that I got an actually modern computer. I can't really compare now to then because I'm out of the loop on basically everything. I imagine today is even shittier than yesterday, based on the downward trajectory of neoliberal society. Last I knew everyone was scrambling like rats because they knew Great Depression II Electric Boogaloo was going down, and the reality of 20-30% real unemployment as a permanent state of affairs made itself known to the idiots who actually believed in the stupidity they call an economy.

I do miss my health back then, but I don't think anything could have averted my deterioration over the years, though, unless WW3 started then and there and lots of people died off, and somehow I would have a place in the new order (which I wouldn't, the moment WW3 happens I'm worse than dead and I had better just hang myself before I get tortured and vivisected in some concentration camp by some fashy pederast.)

It was late, cold and dark and Yushchenko didn't appear in time because he stopped on the road in some village or something. We went home. My late uncle stayed at his friend's balcony and heard his speech. Yushchenko promised to make a contract-only army till 2010. He lied but I got bad health now so no army for m perhaps. Tymoshenko, Yekhanurov and then in 2006 former rival, Putin's puppet, bydlo bandit Yanukovych became the Prime-Minister of Ukraine. I remember how our teachers wore orange scarves and we offended and shamed those few students whose parents were about to vote for Yanukovych. the internet was a place that wasnt ruined and corrupted by normies and their retardation i can tell you that much. memes were memes in the literal meaning of it, ideas, like catchphrases. not unfunny captions to pictures of niggers. and forums on the internet were forums. a forum for people to share their ideas and have discussions and involve in dialectics and ofcourse call someone a retard. the literal purpose of a forum. nowadays there is no discussion. forums nowadays are pure dicksucking, you have some admins and mods who have the epenis and then the "forum" users all just suck their dick on a daily basis, its shitposting but people who actually start discussions or provide arguments or even disagree on something which some underage mod said get banned. because nowadays there are no forums, only hugboxes. and its sad because that means that the underages (who were born in the 00s and didnt experience the last bit of freedom people had) are growing up with the culture of censorship, of not having to disagree with anyone because every person who is different from their "moral authority" gets eliminated or banned, and no discussion is allowed and what doesnt fit with the likings of them will always just be removed, and they are making our future not look too bright.

00s was the last golden age of the internet. Then Facebook and the iPhone happened, and the internet suddenly got much smaller. It got centralized and flooded with normies.

Media wise, everyone was busy talking about how AWESOME that thing you liked was. We got new stuff coming out, instead of endless remakes and sequels to 80s/90s properties. However the first round of remakes/sequels weren't bad either, since they often resurrected IPs that have been dead or just plain awful since a decade. This holds true for comics, movies, videogames.

And people have yet to talk about racism racism racism and whore culture wasn't widespread yet either. It existed, but it wasn't widespread. Even for the pop divas, virginity was a point talked about (remember Britney Spears?).

If you were born in the 80s, then the 00s was the best time to be alive.

"Style" being the most important of the two words in order to properly understand my post.

For example OOT and Wind Waker are both anime but OOT is normal heterosexual style anime whereas Wind Waker is homosexual pedophile style anime.

See the difference?

Its all about style my man.

Octopath Traveler is normal heterosexual anime style that the mass market prefers.

GBA/DS castlevania graphics are so bad most the characters don't even have faces. Play the game for what it is and not what the manual has in it.

Soma is the best character in castlevania because he revived a stagnant series in an interesting way. He's the only guy I ever want to play as because monster soul collecting is way more interesting than anything else the series has to offer. It's a mechanic more games need to pick up (any suggestions?).

Incorrect. The 2007 cut off point isn't the start of the corruption. AOL brought the normies in, they just used it less than the nerds did at the time. The 2007 date is the start of a lot of problems but those problems needed a foundation to grow. AOL is that foundation.

Remakes were common in the 00s as well. Check out the horror genre and you see a lot of remakes like Texas Chainsaw.

The feminism shit was huge in the 90s. It achieved it's mainstream goals and then went underground to infiltrate academia. The normie feminist types won their battle and settled down and the radicals used the big public push to achieve their private goals.

History is not like lego blocks that just slot together. It's a snake that connects head to toe. The modern feminist push is entirely based on the 90's feminist goals. Sexual harassment laws were a 90's creation and now they are being used to metoo people.

Flash games were absolutely amazing. This easy cross-browser thing that would never break and made it so you could play any game without installing. And no one bitched about money because people would slap an ad in the game and that was that. No idle games, no flower picking and hunger meters in AAA games, no microtransactions, the only problem was too many upgrades in your tower defense game. It was THE indie scene, I've played flash games a decade ago that still outshines the shit that gets passes for games today.

It seems there's some argument over what ended this period. The iPhone obviously. Killed Flash, made social media popular because that's where you upload selfies, brought upon a massive surveillance state where anyone could record you at any time, dumbing down of UI to cater to touchscreens, tying games to an easy microtransaction service and encouraging you guessed it microtransactions.

Don't know much about games, but WebAssembly and WebGL are pretty advanced, I read the whole Unreal Engine can run in browser, and for smaller stuff you have lots of libraries to choose from, just need ideas and people to work on assets. Please elaborate on Firefox and Chromium being insensitive of privacy. Choice of screens is a good thing. Reply or not, I don't care much.

Why do niggers nig?

Because of some grand conspiracy?

No, because they are niggers and to be societally destructive and completely hostile to life whether it’s their own or others is completely natural to the species known as homo erectus because it is hard wired into their DNA.

Now sure some anamolously clever genius tier nig could draw up a formal conspiracy to take down whitey but such would simply be a needless redundancy since destroying whitey and his society is simply in a niggers nature.

The above information also explains why Jews and termites behave as they do.

So the protocols legitimate or not are irrelevant as the Jews would simply behave in their same hostile sociopathic anti white way regardless no “inculcation” or indoctrination required.

This is probably why Bobby Fischer was able to effectively renounce his Jewishness as he was horrified by Jewish behavior which suggests he is one of the rare anomalies where the psychopathic gene common to Jews did not take hold.

Meh, who cares? It was nothing special and was reminiscent to that of the late '90s. The only ones who say it was special only say so because they grew up in that very era and are just looking at things through rose-coloured glasses. Nothing particularly innovate came around this time, either. It's funny how people three decades ago must of figured we would of already had flying cars and other stereotypical sci-fi-esque fantasies becoming a reality by then. The only "innovative" thing that came about was possibly Web 2.0 in late 2007, and that only invited all the clueless normalworms and their friends to play, as if their shitty house parties and little get-togethers weren't enough. All technological advancements would of already been said and done, but human beings are stupid pieces of shits who refuse to, or are otherwise, too dumb to evolve. Human stupidity should never be underestimated anyway. It's too bad people in the past had this wishful thinking that it should. I find it genuinely concerning that internet culture and memes went mainstream. Whenever someone would post degenerate content back in the day, they did it because they knew it was degenerate and that stuff wouldn't be acceptable in reality. However, the Gen Z kids don't have that disconnect, and treat this degeneracy like a lifestyle. Hentai has become socially accepted (kind of), edgy teenagers are unironically becoming neo nazis, and people are being arrested for doing insane shit in public just for a couple of views on social media. Sure, people like us are degenerates, but I'm sure outside of the internet, most of you are either recluses or very polite, well mannered people.
I've often seen people look at the things I've just said and say "oh God what have we done?" But I don't blame the average shitposter for causing this mess. it took me until the end of high school to become conscious about fashion or the fact certain clothes were in/popular. so of course back then i was oblivious. i had the timeless american little boy haircut and normal clothing my mom bought for me. i remember when i first got cargo pants i thought they were so fucking cool i could zip them off to become shorts and stuff the pockets with anything. i managed to squint in class so i never got glasses until i was way older. i often wore succubi shoes because light blue was a nice color and no one told me otherwise. was just starting middle school back in 2000 i think. i remember all the other kids had spiked hair but i didnt know about hair gel so i thought they just didnt bathe properly for a few years. i would play pokemon games on the bus, get home, play playstation 2 games, watch cartoons, and repeat. i think it was the end of your timeframe in 2006 i got into runescape and then mmorpgs, internet forums, imageboards, etc eventually. the best time was when everything on the internet was new and i could explore anywhere and learn something or be entertained.

>people asked me why I am single
What's the best answer to this? I reckon you can just say that you're asexual if you're in a tolerant western country. Don't know about others though. Maybe come up with some bullshit like "I'm not ready for a relationship yet/Had a bad break up/Haven't gotten over the last one"

"Haven't found the right person" is a pretty straightforward answer that shuts down most subsequent questioning.

Just brush it off as a joke with dodgy answers. Don't show your discomfort. If you can't do that just tell them you are not comfortable with the question.

"dont worry about it"
really, whats it to them? if im not asking personal questions, or even talking to people, i shouldn't be expected to answer any fo their bullshit.

I feel an increasing fondness towards it. Personally I think video games and internet were at their peak during the early 00s. Movies weren't as good as the 80s or 90s but at least everything wasn't Disney shit.

The thing I miss most about it is that people were more innocent and friendly back then. I'm not claiming it was all sunshine and roses because it wasn't but the average person was much nicer in the earlier 00s. Smartphones and social media addiction have desensitized so many people, we're living in a society full of cynical assholes now.

Even a computer from 2012 is still enough today. The most problems you'd have is hardware decoding not functioning for youtube and such if your videocard is too old. Otherwise I'd still be on my Radeon 6950.

Without reading other comments first so I have some more clarity on my perception. In 2007 I had started highschool so in 2006 I was in my last year of middle school. So I was 4th grade in 2001? Anyways it was pretty shitty like the rest of my childhood previously due to my parents and the cascade of shit making me an outcast all over probably stemming from that dysfunction. I tried to follow some trends but I just couldn't connect to any of it and in 2006 that was when I was beginning to realize I wasn't gonna be having a normal life. I remember just after that 2007 sitting on my first day of highschool in the cafeteria with breakfast alone thinking to myself "yup it's fucked alright." and so the ride on the train of multilayered self destruction through the state of confusion began. I was never into popular media because I was never able to feel a connection to it in the past outside of what my parents plopped me in front of to shut me up so I was off the beaten path there occasionally happening to like some popular things in the process like some metal bands I discovered or maybe an anime that was more mainstream in its own bubble. Guess I had no way of not becoming a wizard in the first place thinking back on this mess.

Funny that this thread came up: two months ago I made a sort of "going away comic" to these Paper Mario OCs me and my 4th grade friend did for one another from elementary school to the start of High School (2001-2008) https://www.pixiv.net/member_illust.php?mode=medium&illust_id=74987256

When suddenly I came across my old middle school diary and found (of all things) a preview for a comic I made for him meant to parody Alien (we did a bunch of parodies like Willy Wonka, Jaws, Nightmare on Elm Street, The Grinch, etc.). It's crazy how the world works.

This was, of course, my middle school mindset, so not for the faint of cringe.

That first paragraph hits uncomfortably close to home. I hit one too many walls this year with a deeply personal creative hobby i've been carrying with me for most of my life (oddly enough, since the 4th grade too) and coming to terms with it and that same feeling of "corruption" you describe has left me feeling emptier than i've ever felt before. The broth has been spoiled for too long and I don't think it's likely it will ever happen, but I really hope either one of us can find that "light" again someday

I feel my life is also too corrupt and it's too late for any decent hobbies anymore. I hold a small journal myself online but it doesn't get much because my mind feels broken most of the time. Almost paralyzed now often, I don't know how to describe it well besides that. A perpetual state of shock? It's the most I can do now, pretty happy just making it to one comfort or another every week that grounds me a little.

This is actually pretty endearing and somewhat poignant at the same time.

The "Good night (my) Nigga!!!" at the end made me laugh out loud, the word "my" written in ink as an afterthought in particular.

You real want to go back to the 2006 internet? you want to go back to broadband or ADSL?

 No.159467

>>159466
I still not only have ADSL for over 10 years now, I have worse download speeds than I had at the start of this decade, probably because more people live in my area now, but there was 0 progress regarding internet infrastructure. And in 2010 I thought that by 2015 we would all be on Fibre optic, and look at me now.

for me the early 2000s was
>anime boom
>yugioh cards
>pokemon games
>beyblade
>hip hop becoming mainstream
>internet becoming mainstream
it was a nice time but in retrospect you only see the good things
