Does Settlers of Catan count? Probably not, right?

A turn-based wargame? I liked Heroes of Might and Magic III also.

I collect and paint models. Never played the games though, not sure if I'd really enjoy that environment as a wizard. My parents are from the era of board games, but would refuse to play anything more complex than monopoly.
I'll post a photo of 2 of the recent minis I've done, and compare them to ones I painted 10+(or whenever 5th edition first came out for 40k) years prior, It's funny how much better they look when you follow some basic instructions like thinning your paints lol. Also it helps that I have a real paintbrush now, back then I would chew a toothpick and use that to paint.
I'm bidding on a box of Hero quest, seems like an old one. Currently it's only at 2 dollars, hopefully I can get it for a steal.

>>70666>>70677thank you very much, the leather effects were an accident and I dont think I could replicate it again. Also I think the wash is doing a lot of work, also thinning paints. I did spend about 10 hours painting at least, which im told is very slow and it's still needing about 5 hours work

How can I find more motivation to build and paint my models
No.71085
i don't know what physical war games are like. i imagine them not unlike chess but on way bigger chessboards where terrain matters, with more types of units with more unique movement patterns, attack ranges, area of effect weapons and damage (instead of every attack from every unit kills every other unit).
i did play a lot of warcraft 3 when i was younger and i appreciate the gentle realtime aspect of it. there not being turns and the light limitation by the ability to act fast combined with small armies and rpg elements give it such a unique alive feeling. warcraft gives so many possibilities that i keep thinking there is stuff possible in the game that just has not been found yet.
starcraft is similar but faster, brutal realtime, with way bigger armies. starcraft 2 is difficult with way more units, more abilities and more complexity. starcraft 1 is difficult because of it's clunky mechanics. you can only select a few units at once and the units get in their own way, making the act of sending a lot of small units way harder then sending a few big units.

>>71085I think the physical war games depends on the certain rulesets and how seriously people take them. From what I've heard there's often a couple books and a judge involved in serious matches. Seems very confusing. I just like to collect and paint - though struggle to find motivation. I will encounter one hiccup building a model and mess it up slightly, which kills my enthusiasm to build more. Especially for the more expensive stuff. If one regular 10 piece soldier gives me grief, how will I build those 100~200 piece flagship models? It's very overwhelming

>>71086>I will encounter one hiccup building a model and mess it up slightly, which kills my enthusiasm to build more. when you mess something up, you can correct it through lore. when you paint one eye too low, that's an unfortunate accident in the cybernetic surgery for the occular augmentation one particular soldier had the misfortune of suffering from.

>>71091Oh certainly but for some models I do want them built correctly. I have one warhammer unit with his should and top of the arm not connecting by like a 1/4 inch, it looks totally off but I intend to make it a gory mess of battle damage

>>71094you could get one of these manual 3d printing pens like the youtuber '3D Sanago'. with that you could fill in missing material and do-over mistakes by adding a blob of plastic on them and then with a set of tiny files give it the right shape.

>>71103Its even smaller stuff too, the book ttells me to make 85% of the model and I do, then it asks me to place a tiny piece in an awkward spot. Idk wtf thte retards are thinking when designing the instructions. too me 30 minsutes and a messy result to glue one dumb piece on
