>>70178do you have a place you can call home and a job nowdays?
No.70259
>>70177I'm not that great, I am just a hobbyist. The best things I've found have been PC parts/games etc, nothing super crazy but can sell these things for a few bucks online. Whilst I was homeless I would appreciate the SEALED bakery goods, you don't really care if it's slightly stale when you're starving. Also found a lot of medication which wasn't being properly thrown away, I never touched it though seems like a terrible idea.
>>70179I am now living in a better place.
>>70180Utmost caution is advised.

>>70259where do you live now?
No.70261
so between locked dumpsters and people video taping their dumpsters, how do you attempt this? I suppose if you're homeless you no longer care about being arrested.
No.70263
>>70260Just a regular flat, it's humble and does the job, close to work as well so it suits my lifestyle well.
>>70261Just find the ones that are ideal. Never dealt with any police or guards so I'm not sure what would happen, I'd assume they would just move you along. Lots of places have dumpsters just behind the back and aren't locked or secured. I didn't ever break any locks or enter property I wasn't supposed to, I believe that's where the trouble can start

No.70267
>>70261Apartments if you need thrift shop grade stuff. Just take a quick peek and see if anything neat is on top - walk out of the complex on foot so people just assume you live there as you walk away and snagged a wicker chair or PC or whatever.
No.70642
>>70267That's a good idea too. People throw out a lot of good things. Strip malls, or any retail area in general are gold mines. Grocery store chains are also great, they throw out baked good wrapped up and clean just because its beyond its date. For regular bread its great
No.70644
Absolutely gross. You aren't going to find anything worth your time unless you are homeless and starving. This activity is repulsive. This isn't a hobby.
No.70645
>>70644Not Op but where I live they throw out CRT TV monitors and various furniture a lot. One time someone left behind a giant rear projection tv. Back when I was younger, about 15ish years ago, longer even, I got a dumpster dived Gamecube with games, including Metroid, RE, and Zelda. Is that gross?
>>70642In today's times they pad lock dumpsters where I live. I am jealous of the OP. I had to get a job and now are a good goy.
>jewgle captcha on wizchan…I wonder when that happened…when did I last post? Years…
No.70646
>>70644I don't know about that. There are a lot of successful finds documented on Reddit.
No.70649
>>706461) Beings on Reddit are only going to post the 1/100 times they get lucky, and not the 99/100 times they find junk or outright nothing.
2) I wouldn't put it past some Redditors to fake finding something good in a dumpster for temporary internet fame.
No.70651
>>70644Well you are supposed to do a quick visual first.. I mean I'm not digging into mushy compiles of old food and mystery sludge. When game stores were popular enough to have actual locations they would throw away so much gold.
>>70645Nice finds man, I've been trying to get a nice CRT TV but they seem incredibly hard to find in my local area. Need one for my older games.
>>70645I'm OP, I'm a good goy too with a job and paying rent and other bills. Most dumpsters are locked or soft locked, and I strictly do not break or bend any type of law. Only do green level ones. Btw the captcha is good for a month i believe

I don't believe dumpster divers routinely make these finds.
But I think you know that already.

>>70659I used to find CRTs just laying near trash.
Truth is, I scored a CRT TV once for a 1$
I feel a bit sad I have no place to put a CRT to play old console games on it since Ive seen old TVs laid for free 6 or 7 times already (pun not intended)
No.70690
>>70689Why are CRTs popular now, those things give off radiation and are noisy, that whine used to give me a headache

Back in my days, dumpster diving had SOVL
You could find an antique, a curo or a rare vase, not some discarded board game…
No.70695
>>706901. Useful to play 1990s games, say, PS1 graphics used to get smoother from the "color bleed" effect of CRTs
2. Instant feedback
(Its important for platformers, I think)
In fact, you cannot play Duck Hunt without cheating if you use LCDs.
No.70698
It's illegal in my country. Everything you put in the trash is automatically considered property of the town/State and they even put trash bins with government issued smartcards to open them.
No.70703
>>70698Sounds more like a proper way to refrain people from getting poisoned with some rotten spoils and alike, but… a law's a law
No.70704
>>70703I think it's probably a half assed way to track if you throw the trash and if you do so correctly for tax purposes but it's not well implemented yet. They could have just reduced the opening of the trash bin to avoid people dumpster diving but they also added this card shit on top of it.
