Outside of NHS back in high school? After my father passed, I volunteered at the local branch of the same hospital chain for a while. It was a stressful time and just having someone tell you where to find the documents room was helpful. The volunteer hospice was also great in his final hours.

I've been on the receiving end of charities, mostly food banks. Love me food.

When I had no money and was starving I visited these free food places for homeless people. I saw the most despicable people there, drug addicts, alcoholics, gipsies etc.
The food itself was greasy crap which gave me a stomach ache.
I realised you're better just scraping some coins together and buying the cheapest bread you can find. You also have to wait a long time and it's only available certain days in the month.

Yes, I volunteer at a local food bank. This was right after covid had it's restrictions lifted mind you so we were always busy. Part of me was sad with the amount of people who were coming in. But the story that sticks with me is pretty regularly we had a young boy, couldn't be more than 7 to come in and pickup food on his bike, I'd always throw him a couple of dollars when he came in. Sad to see peeps so young coming to the food bank, but that's what we are here for.

ive done a trip to Indonesia and done voluntary work at a school for kids with disabilities. I had to teach them english and do various activities. Probably the best time of my life

doing things for others, especially if you're feeling down, is such a pick me up. the older I get the more I find that helping others, even in small ways and even if they don't deserve it, is very good for your spiritual and mental health

I volunteer at local historic sites because it satisfies my autism to keep these places looking good enough to entice bored suburban fucks with fat wallets full of upkeep donations. The historic society is almost all succubi, but they're too old to be irritating to me the way ones my age are. They're actually very nice to me, mostly pity and happiness I'm using my tard strength to work for free. They order a pizza just for me every so often. They also ask for opinions and ideas for events at the sites. Being appreciated is a bit nice, I can understand now why people can become addicted to it.
It's deeply satisfying imagining how many others have swept the floors before me and hopefully will after.
It's not as good as volunteering at a food bank or animal shelter but it kills time.

Wow, it sounds too nice to me. I'd like to work in a place like that since I like history indeed. I appreciate those kinds of places a lot. Now im wondering if they are in my city, to look for a volunteer job

I mostly just do groundskeeper stuff once a week, or more if there's been a storm and there's crap to pick up.
During the town's history day I sometimes let myself be talked into dressed in historic costume to hand out pamphlets, but I'm autistic enough they don't bother to try to prep me to be a tour guide. I've also been working with a couple of the history hags to make field trips more immersive for kids, but I'd rather chew my left foot off than do anything but help organize and come up with ideas.
I hung out at the main ones enough that I help with and eventually figured I might as well put the chairs up.

The history hags were initially excited because anyone my age or younger even visiting is exciting to them. I call them that, but they are nice for old succubi. One even gave me a card saying I could put volunteering there on resumes if I ever look for a job.
It is cool hanging around the people who've made the town their lives. You pick up old ghost stories, learn about cool historic figures you'd never have heard of otherwise, about now-gone parts of the sites. It's humbling, as well, to be reminded of how easily details are lost over time.

It's like annoying boomers say, 'Do what you love' and all. Plus since I'm only sometimes 'paid' in granny baked goods or extra gift shop slop, I choose when I do it so they don't get annoyed if I have other things keeping me from picking up branches or sweeping up.
