Today, I learned about a funny mental disorder that is not autism, not retardation, not SCH yet it's a real issue for people who strive for careers and education.

"Adaptation disorder" in some sources, "adjustment disorder" in many other, such as Wikipedia.

>Unlike major depressive disorder, adjustment disorder is caused by an outside stressor and generally resolves once the individual is able to adapt to the situation.

You know, given me mum was so good at torturing me verbally I am not surprised I *may* have suffered from this very thing. I mean, I hold my job, buuuuuuuuut…

>Signs of adjustment disorder include sadness, hopelessness, lack of enjoyment, crying spells, nervousness, anxiety, desperation, feeling overwhelmed and thoughts of suicide, performing poorly in school or work, among others.[12]

>([12]=mayo clinic)

I wonder if lenting exaggerates this condition, because it… kida matches. I never had this cool "speaking with entities" perk of a *skit*zophrenic, never had an autist-tier hobby to treat as own safe haven, yet all of the above seems to be just the thing that ruined my college/carrer prospects.

>Work problems, going away to school, an illness or any number of life changes can cause stress. Most of the time, people get used to such changes within a few months. But if you have an adjustment disorder, you continue to have emotional or behavioral responses that can make you feel more anxious or depressed.

>Treatment can help you regain your emotional well-being.

Damn vampires. I usually hate people claiming that mental illness isn't real and is only a way for therapists to make money but in this case they're probably right. Yes people can receive emotional distress from their environment and yes, therapy could help but giving it it's own special disorder name for legitimacy just sounds fake.

it's a good idea to detach THIS "external" disorder from a bunch of internal problems though.

As fake as "shitty life syndrome" :) ? (looking at you, >>301917)

I think I may have a condition like this one.

You see, this winter, I had random chest pains. Doctor was like "ah. Your ECG is fine. So is your blood pressure. Must be your nerves." Another doctor looked at the ECG print and said "your heart is fine, what's the promblem? (told him about possible nerves issues).

Guess I have a decent symptom of my awry nerves recorded in the medical record - something something complaints.
