No man chose the year he was born in (as far as I know), so don't waste your
hatred or shame on that. It's best to direct those feelings at things you can
change. The fact is that we are alive here and now, so we may as well make the
best of our situation. I do think we're lucky, in some ways, to be alive today.
But it's not easy to properly use the things we have. The internet is indeed
full of AI-generated nonsense and porn, but it can also be viewed as a great
library of historical media, for example. It is one of our challenges to sift
through the trash, and find the things of value. But there's nothing stopping
you from trying.

I have an idea. You say that you're nostalgic for the 2000s. You should be able
to replicate many things about how life was back then. Find out everything you
can about your chosen period, and try to live as if you really were living back
then. Look at how people spent their free time before smartphones on things like
books, films, music and art. All of those things can be reproduced very easily
today. This will also help break your smartphone addiction, because it will give
you something to fill the time that you would have spent using the smartphone.
When you're trying to break any addiction, having something to replace it with
is very helpful. If you have money, you can go even further and satisfy your
sense of aesthetics with things like period-accurate fashion and furniture, for
example. Eventually, you can become a sort of living anachronism. At least, that
will give you an active goal to channel your hatred toward.

Do you want to be stuck in time like it's 15+ years ago while the rest of the world moves on? There's a time and place for everything and revisiting the past can be good, but you can't indulge in it all the time. It is taxing in many ways to live anywhere but the present. You will be nostalgic for the 2020s soon enough. The billionaires are doing everything they can to make sure only they can enjoy the outside world. Zoomer here, the time period we grew up with was lightning in a bottle. I can't relate to millennials and later Zoomers. It seems as though we're a forethought generation as Zillennials, like the Jones generation.
We're just a blip on the map, something that happened, but quickly forgotten.

Older zoomer here too. For anyone reading this, I am a zoomer and I'm turning 29 next month. Isn't that something? Anyway I do agree, I'm really sad about how the 2000's were this magical time. I really only got to experience 2002~2015 with some little pleasures, everything else has been nothing short of a nightmare. Even my golden years still had major problems as school bullying was insane. At least there were plenty of good distractions, and a younger and more optimistic mind took them on board.

I remember there was some viciousness and nastiness at school behind it all too. Wealth differences, which were minimal or unnoticed for kids, became exacerbated in a mean fashion when some kids had parents that could dump hundreds into the hobby while others didn't. There was lots of stealing, fights, accusing others of having "fake" cards.

Try logging out a little bit by:

1)use some old smartphone as your offline device (Gutenberg Project books, old books, .pdf of Popular mechanics magazines off Archive.org)

AND

2)set your main smartphone, your online device into silent mode on schedule (Do Not Disturb mode on samsungs and alike allows scheduling auto-enable and auto-disable schedule in pairs, say 22:00-07:00)

3. Check your EMR levels in your room and test your EMR sensitivity. What if you are constantly being affected by your Wi-Fi router? Try putting it into another room…

4. Get a y3k-styled chromed mp3 player, maybe?

honestly, i never got phone addiction. the screen is small as fuck, it hurts my eyes trying to use it even for a few minutes. the general experience of "using" a phone is terrible. you cant type, your fingers fuck around with "apps" and half-baked gestures, and everything is constantly being deprecated to force you to buy a new phone.
