It's simply the reality that a lot of parents give these sorts of lame responses out of ignorance or disinterest, or maybe they don't have experience with bullies themselves so they give shitty advice. That said, 'fighting back' isn't always the right solution, it always depends on circumstance. Even as a kid, fighting back has its own problems, you could fight back and lose the fight and end up physically damaged and\or humiliated and feel worse about things. You could fight back only to cause them to gang up on you. You could fight back and get your teeth knocked out. You could fight back and the school admin could treat YOU as the bully and discipline you. There's no simple answer here, and even if you gave us the entire story in minute detail we could end up giving you bad advice for the situation.
So you can only take responsibility for yourself. If someone is being disrespectful to you, the best you can do is figure out how to be more assertive and\or deal with that disrespect. Again there's no simple answer to what will work. I've been in situations where becoming assertive has ended up hurting me in the end because a lot of shitty people never admit to themselves they were wrong and will convince themselves that YOU started things and try to punish you for it. Maintaining assertiveness can also be really draining if you have to keep it up constantly. In some instances you could stand up to the wrong person and they could literally have you killed, probably unlikely but it happens. You know, in some cases you speak back to a cop and you can get arrested. Sometimes you can be completely innocent of a crime, be polite towards a cop and get bullied by the state anyway.

It is an objective fact. The brain is changeable but it is only somewhat so.
At birth we already have a brain hardwired with many instincts, just like a wild animal that is born and instantly needs to be able to stand up and run from predators.
As humans we are profoundly shaped by our upbringing. Plasticity decreases with age and only some degree of change is possible as time passes. You can't just undo past damage, you have to try to move on and though it; it will always be there.
It's like your mind is a city that has already been built - you can never start anew and rebuild the foundations or change all the layout. After adulthood you can try to make some renovations and demolish/build some things, but it will take a huge amount of time and always be affected by where you started.

It is an objective fact. The brain is changeable but it is only somewhat so.
At birth we already have a brain hardwired with many instincts, just like a wild animal that is born and instantly needs to be able to stand up and run from predators.
As humans we are profoundly shaped by our upbringing. Plasticity decreases with age and only some degree of change is possible as time passes. You can't just undo past damage, you have to try to move on and though it; it will always be there.
It's like your mind is a city that has already been built - you can never start anew and rebuild the foundations or change all the layout. After adulthood you can try to make some renovations and demolish/build some things, but it will take a huge amount of time and always be affected by where you started.
There is also an enormous fundamental problem here: free will doesn't exist and the way that you will want to change yourself is affected by who you currently are, i.e. the broken mind that society and your family handed you is what decides how to change.

it really doesnt matter whether you rationalize it or not, if you think it, then its true. just ponder that for a moment, even if we were living in a world where you were wrong about this all, you would still be affected by this. personally i dont know how the mind works nor do i really care, its gonna work however i want it to and it has been so far.
i used to think the way you do and i didnt just decide to change how i think, it wasnt really something i wanted to do but i had to, i was suffering. i couldnt bear it anymore, i just could not go on like that so i changed out of necessity. i told myself i would step out of my worldview for 2 seconds, try to improve my situation, then i could go back to slitting my wrists. in the next few minutes i had the epiphany that i didnt care if i couldnt change my brain, i didnt care if i couldnt change my genes, i didnt care if everything was predetermined, i was going to do whatever the fuck i had to so i could be happy, and now i am. so from my perspective it appears youre dead wrong, i changed my mind in mere minutes, all i had to do was let go of what i thought i knew.

This is not true, in the other parts of the world boomers just get critized as much because of the shit they fucked up in the past. The only places where people "respect" their elders without ever daring to critize them are places where you are constanly in fear of facing consequences for doing so.
