Right now I have a lot of trouble concentrating, but since I was in deep depression and had intrusive thoughts, when I took some adderal I had massive stomach aches but still felt sort of good, now that Im a bit better I was wondering if any wizzies who have experience with simulants if it helped them?
>>255714 The short version is that I’ve been on and off them since 16, and on and off SSRIs since 11, and I’m nearly 30 now. The times I’ve been off of them are basically lost years, but I don’t know if it’s a 1-1 causative thing or if I stop taking them when I’m depressed. I went off them last year, and I’ve been able to do normal amounts of work with phenylpiracetam (NOT phenylpiracetam hydrazide which will nuke your liver), but I’m still trying to find a replacement for SSRIs. It seems like stims make me able to work, but they don’t help with taking care of myself. Antidepressants get me to take care of myself, but don’t help with work. I doubt that I would need anything if I had not been medicated in the first place. I wouldn’t recommend STARTING adderall to anyone, only continuing it if you’re on it. The sides are too fucked. My front teeth are turbofucked from it (dry mouth => bad teeth). It becomes too easy to neglect your body and environment. I know two people that abused it that are schizophrenic now.
Been on various medications for around 4 years. Stimulants helped at first. I felt productive and alert and like I was really touching reality. After a while though, they made my intrusive thoughts unbearable, made my physical tics really bad. I’d end up with a sore brain and sore joints/muscles. I tried stimulants on two separate occasions: One time Ritalin, one time vyvanse. I stopped taking them now. Feeling alright.
They are awful don't touch that crap, they make you feel good and focused of course but it's not without a price. I've taken adderall, ritalin, and vyvanse, and if I have to choose the least bad one it would be vyvanse, but still, these drugs will absolutely milk all your energy. When it wears off at the end of the day you will feel like dogshit, if you try to stop taking them you will be stuck in bed for days. When I stopped taking adderall I felt like I couldn't even move, I would try to lift an arm and my brain would just move some ghost-like version of my arm while my physical arm didn't budge without immense effort, I also couldn't think or focus and I felt extremely depressed. I wouldn't take that crap again if you gave it to me for free, they are truly demonic energy pills.
I started taking stimulants a few months ago. First I started on wellbutrin and it did literally nothing. I then switched to adderall. Only effect was maybe I felt in a slightly better mood for an hour or so after taking it, but the mood increase was so slow it could have been a placebo. So I upped my dosage of adderall and there was no difference. I recently switched to lexapro and guess what, no effect at all. Am I just too much of a failure for psychiatric medication to work?
>>255845 >then switched to adderall. Only effect was maybe I felt in a slightly better mood for an hour or so after taking it, but the mood increase was so slow it could have been a placebo no way, are you on any other kind of meds? I find it hard to believe adderall did nothing more than something in the realm of placebo
>>255858 Uh oh, caffeine is already that high on the list? It doesn't really help me as much as I hope it would. And as far as I can tell, Modafinil is in a weird space of requiring a prescription and being sold in stores, but it's available online? Anyone successfully purchased before?
Taking full blown amphetamines (adderal) or methylphenidates (ritalin) on a daily basis will leave you a burnt out husk in the span of a couple of weeks. The concept of consuming ANYTHING on a daily basis outside of water is totally unnatural and is nothing more than an attempt by corporations to sell more product via method of consumption. Consuming drugs on a daily basis does nothing but dramatically increase your tolerance along with rewiring your brain to not only expect but require the drug in order to release basic necessary neurotransmitters (like dopamine)
The only success stories I hear involving stimulants are from people using them sparingly and primarily to lose weight or motivate themselves on an extremely as needed basis.
Depending on your genetics and personality stims can be extremely pleasurable or an absolute nightmare from start to finish so approach them with caution.
>>255890 Can confirm. I took vyvanse for about a year and I'm still recovering. Nothing is fun anymore, everything requires two to three times the effort it once did, and anything requiring concentration is literally painful. It's been very gradually getting better, but I'd advise people to stay off of psychiatric drugs- especially stimulants and benzos.
>>255948 same experience with vyvanse except I only took it for a couple weeks, it is not worth it at all, benzos aren’t even close to being as bad though imo, at least taking benzos for a little while hasn’t stopped me from getting out of bed and they are pretty easy to taper
I got a question for you wizzie bros, what drugs would you recommend to achieve mental sedation? Legal or illegal, doesn't matter. I just want to not have my mind race all the damn time. I don't want them to make me "happy" or care about any side effects, just help me pass the time a little more comfortably.
>>255973 >>255978 at least in the US, benzos seem to be the easiest type of scheduled psychotropic to get prescribed. in non-psychiatric situations I have been prescribed and given lorazepam for minor surgeries and whenever my heart rate has gotten higher than the doctor would have liked during a stay in the hospital.
my understanding of the psychiatric system is that they're almost universally prescribed for anxiety sufferers. going to a psychiatrist and reporting your symptoms would probably be the best bet
>>255983 I have anxiety so severe that it's dominated my entire life but they would only give me SSRIs and keep telling me to see a therapist, in Australia
It's good because it lasts long, doesn't fry your brain and builds no tolerance unless you take it daily. I take 100mg three days a week with 1-2 rest days in between, every dose feels the same as the last and has been for months. Only downside is that my sleep the night after a dose is rather shit, like I can sleep through it but even the slightest bit of anxiety or noise will keep me up for hours.
The days on modafinil are great, the days off it are fine because I know I'm going to take it again in a few days.
>>255999 I can vouch for modafanil and write this same post. It's not a body rush like amphetamines and you won't crash like on caffeine. Non addictive and not easy to build a tolerance too. No significant liver risks. It flat out makes thinking and focusing fun. The most productive times in my adult life were because of it. It's especially good to have as an emergency in case you absolutely need to stay awake or have some sudden social interaction to attend.
I wouldn't recommend it if you're actually depressed though, all it will do is accelerate the sad thoughts.
>>255999 >>256003 3rd for modafinil. Fantastic substance. The key thing for me is eliminates boredom; I sit down to work, look up and its already been 4 hours. I wonder if this is what most people are like naturally
>>256016 Yea I'm sort of tired of trying all these expensive supplements that supposedly help people, every one that I've tried has done literally nothing or had some mild placebo effect that doesn't last more than a day or two
>>256016 Out of interest do you know what dose you took? Have you tried something like Ritalin and had any results from that? Everybody responds differently to drugs
>>255996 Would I benefit from that stuff If I'm already very anxious and can't sleep properly most nights? At the same time I think using stims for motivation is pretty much bullshit, If you don't want to do something, you subconciously/spiritually won't do it no matter how much stimulants you take, at least this is how I view it. I'd like to take stims to stop feeling tired all day and to concentrate more on vidya/anime.
>>256064 >Would I benefit from that stuff If I'm already very anxious and can't sleep properly most nights? Yes >At the same time I think using stims for motivation is pretty much bullshit, If you don't want to do something, you subconciously/spiritually won't do it no matter how much stimulants you take, at least this is how I view it. By simply observing human behaviour this is clearly incorrect. Drugs can completely change your view of the world and functionality of your brain. It isnt as simple as doing something if and only if you want to do it. All people are forced to do things that they have aversions to, and there are mental traps like procrastination.
>>256054 I've done 50,100, and 150 mg dosages. Stimulants don't work on me. I can take an adderall and a redbull and sleep it off. Don't know what's wrong with me
>>256220 Search 'paradoxical effect' and you will find there are known situations where stimulants have opposite effects than usual for some people. It can indicate ADHD, or sleeping disorders, among other things. It happens to me even with methamphetamine, I find it relaxing and it eases social anxiety
>Be me >Be sitting in hospital waiting room >Have my laptop out working >Guy comes in screaming profanities >Turns out he was having a medication overdose which turned him into a psychotic spastic >Loud distractions everywhere >I keep coding and completely ignore him >Patients bustle around me >Going back and fourth in admission doors >Noise, activity, people, everywhere >I keep focusing and coding >Effortlessly ignore the distractions like I was sitting alone in a quiet room with perfect focus
That's what its like on meds when they actually work right. I couldn't work at a hospital waiting room even if there wasn't noise because a single person would interrupt me and I wouldn't be able to resume my task. But I could do it all effortlessly.
I have experiences like that at the airport too, where I was sitting in busy cafes among a literal crowd of people just working. Hidden behind my mask with laser focus on stimulants. So yeah, if you have trouble focusing or studying you want to get on stimulants.
For Americans here I recommend you try out 'Circle Medical's video ADHD service. It will cost a few hundred dollars if you pay it out of pocket and they can diagnose ADHD in two days and then prescribe stimulants. It's a legit service with doctors and physician assistants who are licensed to prescribe certain scheduled substances (unlike many places – they actually listen and help) I highly recommend them. It is cheaper than a psychiatrist, more accessible, and you'll be insanely surprised at how attentive and caring the doctors on there are. I'm insanely impressed with it.
>>256225 not being able to focus in a situation like that is completely normal, people are prescribed medications that are supposed to help them operate normally, not to make them better than other people. telling people to see a quack doctor and get addictive medication is retarded as hell, if any wiz value their long term mental health then do not do this shit. If you are worried that you have genuine attention issues then see a real doctor that doesn’t just swipe your credit card and send in a note for legal meth to your pharmacy
i'm only 20mg vyvanse. I can't concentrate without it and it only last like 6-8 hours. After that I just get tired. When I don't take it I just get headache but it goes away after 2-3 days of not taking it. But I have no energy to do anything. I have been taking it for 3 years at this point.
>>256242 >people are prescribed medications that are supposed to help them operate normally, not to make them better than other people. Isn't that exactly what Erdos did? sage because your point is solid and I don't want to bump the thread with my idiotic question.
Stimulants work until they don't, you'll start gaining tolerance and at some point no matter how much you increase your doses your body will beg to stop it, eventually you will feel better without it. That's drugs for you. Taking breaks or following your prescription won't do jackshit, drugs will never work the same as the first times.
>>259212 Objectively false. >drugs will never work the same as the first times. This phrase on its own is true, but drugs remain incredibly useful even with tolerance.
Tolerance breaks are highly effective. At some level you can even take it every day and tolerance will stop building, depending on the drug. Your simplified, stupid comments are actively harmful.
Of course some people will feel better not taking certain drugs at all, some will find them useful in certain life situations, some with chronic conditions like ADHD will be better off taking it everyday at a certain dosage as shown in extensive studies
If you have ADHD (or maybe some other disorder - stimulants are prescribed for stuff like narcolepsy and even depression) then they are profoundly valuable. They are like 87% effective (either amphetamines or methylphenidate – different types of drugs but similar effects.)
I am diagnosed with ADHD and I went from not being able to do anything to launching head first into the most productive period of my life. I've implemented a massive software project spamming tens of thousands of lines in only a few weeks. It is complex, well organized, and elegant. It also took studying of others work and a lot of fine details. I could not have done this without stimulants.
The only thing to note is its common not to get medication right the first time. You may have to try a few different drugs and dosage adjustments. If you have side effects like me (im currently having sleep problems) your dose may be too high. Overall, I'd strongly suggest people who think they may have ADHD to talk to a doctor about it. It's not a problem you "outgrow" and being treated can basically help you live a better life.
>>256242 > telling people to see a quack doctor and get addictive medication is retarded
Looks like there are a lot of uninformed people in this thread. Stimulant medication is not addictive to people with ADHD because the medication only restores to the brains neurotransmitters to a normal level. People with ADHD have been known to self-medicate to try treat their ADHD which is why when you treat ADHD with stimulants drug addiction actually goes down.
Of course, I don't expect you or any of the other retards in this thread trying to give medical advice to know this. I only ask that those considering treatment give more thought to what their doctor says over a few random retards posting conspiracy theories here. They probably have something, you know, a bit more scientific to say about treatment versus some anti-pharma bro-science.
The general sentiment in /dep/ I see re meds: can be summed up as: - i dun wun take no meds caz i a man and that is just a cope! real men just need to roll their sleeve up and face problems! i am not a man if i dont - my doctor is an idiot and i cant trust him! i know more than him from reading wikipedia - the meds are poison and only put out to make money! everyone is trying to harm me and i won't trust anyone - i had side effects one time from barely being on meds for a few weeks and now think all meds are shitty
>>259290 >Tolerance breaks are highly effective. No, at some point they just stop working or you'll regain it very quickly. >Of course some people will feel better not taking certain drugs at all, some will find them useful in certain life situations, some with chronic conditions like ADHD will be better off taking it everyday at a certain dosage as shown in extensive studies Like I said, they work until they don't. Your ocassional user like a student or worker trying to get shit done will obviously rip benefits with minimal repercussions, a daily or ADHD user will at some point stop seeing this benefits.
even more generally it has been shown that heroin users can be euphorically high every day if they take enough, because at some point the body cant create more tolerance
>>259308 I’ve been on ADHD meds for 3 years. If the effects wear off I take a 2-3 day break and it’s back to normal. My tolerance levels are low though. I still use the same dosage after all these years.
>>259306 looks like i forgot a few retarded points to add to my list
- i dont wunna become dependent on meds mayne - da jews da jews!
everyone is dependent on society to function correctly to live. you are not some kind of survivalist independent of the system. you are still just as fucked if the system breaks down, with or without meds.
>>259306 we are forced by modern society to live extremely unnatural lives. Evolution has no built us to cope with this lifestyle, and there is no escape. It is entirely logical that manmade alterations to ourselves and our minds can be beneficial, considering this environment.
>>259313 Did you try all of them and at least high doses? It's common for doctors to dose-cuck you and only prescribe certain stimulants 'to curb da abuse.'
I tried Adderal, Vyvanse, Ritalin (methylphenidate), wellbutrin, and dextromethylphenidate (like ritalin but stronger?) Going through all those meds the dextromethyl… worked the best. Note there are even more stimulants than that but just wanted to show how I had to try quite a few meds before I got it right.
Did you try both methylphenidates and amphetamines? Because they are very different and one class may work better for you.
>>259389 Yes, unfortunately. It still amazes me how common it is among men to refuse treatment for mental health issues because they feel like they're cheating, being weak, deceived, or enslaved somehow. It's just like: no, you have a medical disorder. These are pills that have almost a complete success rate in treatment. Just take the pills…
>>260305 The acute short term withdrawals that take place during the first couple weeks of going cold turkey can be pretty agonizing and feel like pic-related so I hope you have an arsenal of non-addictive and or functionally different drugs to help balance things out. But it's the long term necessary reprogramming of the mind that ends up being the real battle.
Have you planned this out with your doc or are you just saying fuck it?
>>259405 >These are pills that have almost a complete success rate in treatment. I bet you cant find even one example of that because there isnt any such case
>>260383 don't got any other drugs, i'm ridding myself of them because soon i won't have a way to get access too them and what i fear the most is being dependent on them to the point of me not having them will make me do stupid shit. While these drugs helped me get shit done, they've given me sleep problems that have impacted my life even worse the past few years.
on day 6. and i think it's getting better. i sleep for like 10 hours a day now and actually dream. after the 3rd day my head stopped hurting but i eat whatever i can get my hands on.
