Lets go on a Wizardly tour of the world, using Google Street View. It is truly amazing. Sure there were always National Geographic pictures and stuff. But its not the same as being able to walk around streets at your own direction. This is like something out of science fiction, we take for granted. This is as good as actually being there. And perfect for Wizards who don't actually want the inconvenience of leaving their homes.
You can also post pics and youtube vids from foreign countries too.
I heard the Nazi troops advancing into the USSR went insane from advancing hundreds of miles into endless plains of nothingness. I rode on the highway from the Ukraine to Stalingrad to get a feel of it myself.
>>20180 It's amazing that there are people living in those remote places. I wonder what it is like. I imagine slow sattelite internet if at all and only being able to go shopping one a week, having to drive for at least an hour to the next shop. Wonder how they make money.
>>20181 >It's amazing that there are people living in those remote places. I wonder what it is like. I lived in a village surrounded by forests and hills, with less than 100 people, and even they were spread out pretty far. But that was over 20 years ago, before public internet was even a thing, and I didn't have a reference or anything to compare my life to, so it was just a "normal" way to live for me. Now it almost seems surreal, like most of that life was a dream.
I always vaguely wanted to live in the country in some sparsely populated area (something like Siberia or Canada rather than outback Australia or SE US though – I don't like the heat). But I figure the lack of decent internet would make me go insane. Also I don't like complete quietness because it lets me hear my tinnitus in full force.
I went to Leiden, South Holland. I liked it a lot and plan to return. >seems comfy >like the canals >like the narrow streets https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leiden
>>20815 I've been daydreaming about this a lot, but I don't think I would last long irl. If I ever make enough money I'll build a self-reliant/"off the grid" cabin somewhere extremely remote. Staying will probably going to be fun for a week or two at a time, but not much longer. There's a reason northerners are depressed all the time.
>>23419 Strange. I can't decide if that place looks poor or not. The worn-out buildings have a "poor" vibe but they're punctuated by tidy roads and gardens that seem almost western. Interesting.
>>24726 Driving your horse and cart on a road sounds comfy. I wonder what he does during rush hour.
Eminem's childhood house as of September 2013 (can be seen at the covers of The Marshall Mathers LP and The Marshall Mathers LP 2; now demolished). 19946 Dresden Street, Detroit
Google Earth is god tier >not living just a few kilometers from North Korea/Russia border >not walking the abandoned fields near Khasan city >not having your cosy little bydlo village home in some remote little Russian town
Seriously guys, try it. Find the border of Russian Federation / North Korea and just venture in that area via Google Maps, check the remote forgotten and peaceful towns, the abandoned army buildings, the green nature all around.
I once was going through some small remote town via Google Street view and saw a phone number on car repair shop sign. I actually called it via Skype (I know Russian) and told the owner I found him in Google Earth and that I'm calling from across the world. Was pretty cool.
I think the concept has something to do with the degradation of human culture when people begin to live by proxy through computers, smart phones, internet, etc. At least, that's probably the only reason I can assume they decided to show disgusting battle stations, people in fursuits, weird hentai, and gay furry porn.
But it might just be some fucked up stuff the director thought would be funny to show.
>>30549 there are very very few cars parked in front of the station, but still 4 cars chose to park by this loop thing on the road side in front of the station. i wonder why?
>>30711 It's probably the habit of parking your shit wherever convenient instead of where you should. Though I'm pleasantly surprised by the nice architecture and tidy streets and undamaged asphalt. Fancier than I expected of a Siberian town.
A person you live with who is sharing your network could have entered your address in to the Googlosphere and had it saved internally to your IP on Google's end. I have a dynamic IP and sometimes when browsing classifieds sites I can see where a previous user of the IP lives as they have their address assigned to it.
If you live alone and have a static IP, then maybe Google requested your information from your ISP to "improve your browsing experience ;^)".
If I could have one superpower it would be to be able to be invisible/unnoticeable. Then I would traverse the world taking photos and normans would never bother me.
>>33209 I was having these nightmare musings of what if after I suicide, consciousness lingers on and I'm left wandering the world unable to interact with matter.
But then I realized it would actually be pretty cool to be able to passively observe the goings of the world, without having the responsibilities of existenz oneself
You guys have probably heard of this before, but GeoGuessr is a game where you get dropped down somewhere random on Google Maps and guess where you are on the map. https://www.geoguessr.com/
>>37452 I think he misunderstood the "walking your dog" meme.
>>37899 You'd get used to it. One of the most pleasant things with coming to live in a foreign country is that you gradually acclimate yourself to all the weird and exotic things and they start feeling like part of home, despite still feeling exotic at the same time. One of the perks of being an expatriate.
>>37901 My dog was very defiant for the last 4 years, and the only way to walk him was to drag him on a leash until I broke his neck. So I ended up having to carry him up the block and make him walk back.
Someone commented "uh thats not really walking a dog"
Not far from Toyora Junior High School (Toyora-cho, Hokkaido). Upon further investigation from another angle succubus in orange shirt has white bag in her left hand. Perhaps poor doggie had just taken a shit in August 2014.
I find it weird how the street view thing still sucks people in like it's a drug. It's sorta neat to see years-old pics of your own town, but that's all. Spending all your time virtual touring every backwater in the world…what's the point.
>>39848 People are interested in places that are unique and different from your own. How else are you going to see these things without spending thousands of dollars?
Bing maps birds eye view was great before they changed it recently. I preferred it over street views. The Bing maps street view does a near clean sweep of the boonies in the places it goes (not nearly as many as google) but it sucks at loading.
>>30711 I think that green car is the Sunday Cup prize car on GT1. "Demio". I used to save up credits by winning the sunday cup over and over. Probably the slowest car in the game.
>>39848 My parents force me to travel every now and then, and I can't see how all the trouble effort and $$$ makes it any better than google streetview
>>20049 >You can also post pics and youtube vids from foreign countries too. I enjoy watching cab view train videos quite a bit. There are a lot of great videos to be found on YouTube, with some of the best being from Norway and the Netherlands. Being a train driver sounds highly wizardly to me (at least in theory!).
I'm also quite enjoying those city walk videos (Rambalac, NIPPON WANDERING TV) that can be found over on /jp/.
>>50300 >>48159 I like how aggressively square all the buildings are in japan. Like you could cut yourself on the corners of the buildings or something.
