Star Trek (preferably TNG or Voyager) > sterile, minimalist, comfy surroundings > comfy use of technology to minimize suffering ( replicators, holodecks, transporters etc) > no glorification of violence and sex > nice morals and people generally being respectful to each other > different story at each episode and there are 26 episodes per season.
>Preferably on Netflix because it's easier to use >easier to use I don't see why you wouldn't want to use a product which doesn't give you everything you want and requires payment. There are SEVERAL online sites which lets you watch full TV shows and movies for free and its simple as: 1: Go to the website 2: Search the name 3: Clicking the play button Simpler, no need to sign in to any account or setup anything, and most of all you don't need to pay for shit.
>The Bridge (Danish: Broen; Swedish: Bron) I recently watched the first season of a Swedish-Danish police show, which is available on DVD and iTunes with English subtitles.
I am not a big fan of television, but I checked out this show because the main character is an autistic detective.
They did a great job with her portrayal. (They never actually discuss her autism; it's just an unstated theme.) Though I do think some of her behavior was a bit exaggerated at times, especially since she is in her late thirties and has had decades to practice pretending to be normal. She also doesn't seem to have strong sensory issues, which would have been an interesting aspect of autism to see portrayed in the show.
As far as the plot goes, it is mostly solid: sometimes great, sometimes a bit formulaic. I have also watched the American version, which was cancelled after two seasons. That was also a nice show, with many of the same pros and cons as the original. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Bridge_(2011_TV_series)
>>36597 Kirk is a bit of a tool, not to mention Picard has more of a wizardly mindset. They are both great shows but TNG is easier to get into. TOS is a little dated and doesn't get as philosophical as some TNG episodes.
>>36597 Voyager episode "Death Wish" was about a case whether an immortal being has a right to commit suicide even if that means destabilazation of his society. It was a pro-suicide episode.
Netflix sucks, like you said it is for normies. Normies too busy with sex and kids to click a magnet URL.
How It's Made How It Works Any wildlife/ecosystem/nature documentary by the BBC, especially if narrated by David Attenborough Survivorman Daily Planet Forged In Fire
Those are the only shows I could declare as comfy and zero-bogus. I don't know if they're on Netflix because I'm not a normie.
I'm watching M*A*S*H reruns on AMC right now. It is a not-bad show.
i very, very rarely watch tv shows, but i really enjoyed breaking bad, is there something that is just as good from start to finish, yet isn't too short? game of thrones was good, but it went to shit after season 3. also, i wonder if gale is a wizard.
>>37265 Not very long at 8 episodes but True Detective is the only show I preferred to Breaking Bad. Never watched the second season with a new cast but apparently its not bad.
I try to avoid watching shows because it's very easy for me to get immersed and invested in the characters. It makes the comedown after finishing one unbearable.
Like I can feel perfectly fine with my way of life and loneliness but then I begin watching a show and when it ends I absolutely dread my existence. I have dreams where I interact with characters from the show, keep listening the soundtrack to experience the feeling of rejuvenation I had while watching it. It takes time for me to accept the state of my life again. I don't experience this after going through movies or books.
I guess I actually desire human contact and friends even though the circumstances of my life led to me being a wizard.
>>36598 this. literally why anyone would want to pay netflix is beyond me. it really makes you think on how big of a role a good advertising and overhype play when it comes to make a successful product
I'm trying to get through DS9 right now, but it's hard. I'm only halfway through Season 2 and I'm already kind of burnt out. It's tough to wade through a lot of meh episodes just to finally have a few good ones here and there. For every episode like "Duet" (fucking great episode, by the way), there's boring crap like "Progress" or "The Storyteller". I'd imagine it's gonna be a while before I finish it. To be fair though, it's first two seasons, so far, are a helluva a lot better than TNG's first two. Plus it's hard to watch much of anything these days. I'm not even sure I could watch all of TNG again if I had to. I just tend to rewatch the TNG episodes I like over and over, and forget the other ones.
Personally, I'm also not really a fan of the look of everything when compared to TNG. DS9 itself is too cold and dark and is essentially just a giant turd in space. I realize it's supposed to be that way because it was built by the Cardassians instead of the Federation and thus is a lot harsher in it's design, but still. You'd think they'd renovate the damn thing, or whatever.
On the plus side, I enjoy the interplay/conflict between the characters (Odo & Quark, Miles & Bashir, Kira & Ben etc.) Feels closer to TOS what with the friendly conflict between Spock and Mcoy, with Kirk in the middle. For me, I always felt TNG lacked a lot on that front. Everybody just sort of got along in TNG and there was never any problems that each of the characters had with the other besides the odd throwaway episode where they were being "affected" in some way. All the character interactions outside whatever the mission at hand was, almost always felt sterile, stuffy, overtly formal and lifeless. The show needed more characters like Dr. Pulaski (who didn't like Data and butted heads with Picard) and Ro Laren (who didn't like command officers, especially Riker) to inject some much needed variety in the character interactions. Also, having Dukat as a recurring villain is great. The only comparable consistent, corporeal threat to Dukat in TNG was Tomalak, but he barely showed up and was mostly forgettable. You could also say the Borg itself, or even Lore were others, but they showed up even less frequently, despite being more interesting. Thankfully there was always Q messing around with Picard and crew every now and again. I suppose he comes the closest to Dukat for TNG, I guess, despite being a super being. I'd also take Kira and Dax over the worthless lumps of moldy, stale bread that were Troi and Dr. Crusher any day. Such pointless, boring characters.
As an aside to DS9, Odo feels a bit too overtly conservative. I kinda wish he were more alien in the way he spoke and thought to match his alien, shape-shifter physiology. Garak's also pretty good. It's nice to see main characters like Quark and Garak who have their own agenda. Jake and Nog are essentially the Wesley equivalent, except more annoying while both being completely useless.
Overall though, I prefer ST when it's going somewhere. Being stuck on a crappy looking space station watching daily minutiae play out is a bit dull. It'll be nice once I get to the parts when the Dominion starts showing up.
>>38218 Not him, but netflix is nice because you can browse imageboards on your computer or something while having shows play on a larger television not connected to your computer.
I like trailer park boys because it's a pretty relaxing show especially if your life is shitty and theres little to no emphasis on relationships for me alot of the characters are relatable to my shitty family so I somewhat enjoy it for those reasons. I also like Bojack Horseman although I hate how he basically has a great life and hates it, but I like how cynical he is and theres a couple episodes that deal with suicide and stuff that kind of hit me but the drama with the characters and relationships is obviously not wizardly but most of the time Im able to look past it. Also a show not on netflix but I wpuld still recommend is Morel Oral
>>36649 I hate how doc martin pretty much started out as a show about a wizard doing wizardly things and telling people there stupid and to fuck off (if you ignore his backstory about having an ex wife) and then turned into a show about how an old awkward guy falls for young hot succubus teacher and they totally shifted the emphasis and plot for the show I was really sad because I thought I had finally found a show with a true wizard nature (and I dont mean that in the truwizrd kind of way)
>>38479 I'll second Trailer Park Boys. Though I think it started to really go downhill after Netflix revived it. I'll throw in my two cents and recommend Peep Show. It's another one on my cozy comedy list. It has a lot of early 00s nostalgia for me as well, but that may not be the case for you if you are American.
>>38483 Yea after the 5th season it really started to go downhill I like the first 3 the best and if I remember the first movie was good as well. I wouldnt talk about Peep Show here much I used to watch it avidly like 3 years ago the first season was my favorite I think, I liked the second too kinda sucked how it never ended however I wouldnt talk about it here because it's seen as a show for failed normies and it pretry much is looking back on it cant really stomach it anymore
>>38479 ill 3rd TPB. other than the last couple seasons its sooo comfy. Its such a genius show too. their lives suck, I can actually relate to some things they do like making a drink cup out of the bottom of a two liter, using potato chips as currency, getting drunk as a hobby, shitty cars, stealing stuff, etc. There are some more serious sad parts as well. love that show.
>>38527 Bubbles is by far my favorite character. I like him because he's pretty much a guaranteed wizard all he does is play with his kitties and try to scrape by in life, his parents abandoned him and if it wasnt Ricky and Julian he wouldnt have any friends
>>36597 There was one other voyager episode called Mortal Coil that was half about suicide. It was very distressing for me to watch. The only other ones in trek history focused on klingons but who cares about them.
Currently watching Dexter. On season 3 right now. Would be a very wizardly show if Dexter wasn't in a relationship and had regular sex. I guess if they didn't make him a massive normie then they would've scared away the majority of the population.
>It would be wizardly if the characters were wizards instead of normalfags.
Sounds like every show really. The gore in Dexter is so tasteless. Nothing but snatch-tickling brutality for bored housewives who want to go against the grain by watching something overly violent.
>Rome >every succubus is revealed as a cold manipulative cunt, most get what they deserve >romance scenes are less than 5 min per episode and the HBO mandated soft porn can be skipped easily It's about two relatively moral men fighting and helping each other survive an urban hell run by egomaniac politicians
>>41586 Rome I was still being able to watch, but stuff like Mad Men seemed to cater to degenerate audience, I just couldn't care about any of the characters who only seemed to care about getting laid.
Breaking Bad was a good watch. The Wire too, because even though some of the characters like McNulty were ultra-chads, they still had different motives and embraced the suck.
Legend of the seeker based on sword of truth terry goodkind series, hercules the legendary journies are both sam rami epic fantasy shows both funny and fun.
Farscapr id recommend for sci fi adventure, its like star trek meets jim henson movie magic
Gotham is pretty awesome. It's a crime show that takes place in the Batman universe. It's kind of ridiculous, but I don't care as long as I'm entertained. No sex scenes either.
>>41581 I loved this show, but it becomes terrible at season 5. I only stuck through it since the first ones were so good, so I wanted to finish it. Season 6 and 8 were 'ok', if I remember correctly.
>>41667 >netflix- manhunt. Ted Kaczynski was a wizard. It's worth watching the entire show just for that one episode where you get to see Ted's story.
I'm watching big mouth. I like it so far. It's illuminating because it lets you see what normal kids went through during puberty, which in turn lets you frame your experience from a different perspective. Also I probably never jerked off without feeling immense guilt in like the last 15 years and never really got comfortable with having sexual urges so the sex positive attitude is almost therapeutic to me.
Don't watch it if you get easily triggered by normies though
>>36593 Time Team Sherlock Holmes (Jeremy Brett, from the 80s and 90s, not other versions) Rumpole of the Bailey The Munsters
Someone already added How It's Made, I'd also recommend Fred Dibnah if you're into the engineering/historical side of technology, Adam Hart_Davis' What the Romans Did For Us and the later Victorians series, as well as everything else he made. Civilisation with Kenneth Clarke is also pretty good, but not the same degree of /comfy/.
