I was on Monday, week 4 today. Got 150lbs for my hang snatch(above knee) 3 rep max, did 90% of my 5RM(which was 345 yesterday) for a 5*5 on back squats, and then took the weight down to 135 and just did two sets of as many reps as possible, like in this http://real-anime-training.blogspot.com/2015/07/maito-gais-basic-training.html?m=1
made me feel great tbh. If I can reach 400*3 on backsquats by the end of this year, I'll feel pretty great. I lost a lot of strength from when I was younger, and I'm finally getting closer to making it back to where I was. I'm making noob gains tier progress again, so my spirits have been lifted quite a bit.
Current stats are 5'11 and 181lbs as of this morning. Permabulking for life.
>>40530 You're a beast Anon! I'm training for my next amateur match. Trying to get my mile down to 5 flat. Currently squatting 205 5x5 and benching 165; I don't lift much since I'm 5'11" but fight at 147. Switching more weight training to shoulders for better lefts.
>>40543 Ganbare, anon-san! Revel in the flames of youth!
What kind of fighting do you do? I've been considering trying to get into Muay Thai myself, but I don't have a car nor the money to support that fully tbh.
>>40546 I'm a boxer! My gym isn't too terrible price-wise, and luckily within biking distance. The coach drives me to matches if my mom won't since I don't have a car. It's a really hard sport, but also the only thing I feel attached to. It's thrilling! Muay Thai is very cool and one of the stronger martial arts in my opinion. Do you know enough that you could practice on your own?
>>40550 Honestly, I know fuckall about martial arts period. The most experience I've had was some high school wrestling. I could maybe get some books on it and a bag to work with or something?
How long have you been boxing for? also ;_; your coach drives you to matches, I wish I had a coach for something again. Tfw no mentor who wants the best for me and is willing to dedicate his time to me
>>40554 I've been boxing seriously for just over two years, but I got into it faster than most since I would always practice by myself before then (I didn't have a bag or anything but I did careful research on different stances and punches, etc.). I definitely recommend a heavy bag and a speed bag if you have space and money. All I have at home is a jumprope and some dumbbells, but I wish I had a bag. Having a coach is really nice. He's not my "friend", but having someone who cares about your progress feels really good. Boxing and work are the only reasons I even leave the house.
>>40579 >I would always practice by myself before then Has boxing at gym with a coach affected your status? I mean, has it changed it totally or slightly? I've been doing it at home and I'm a bit curious.
>>40579 Pretty much the same for me too. I only leave the house to go to the gym. I'll look into getting a bag, I have some money saved uo from my last job that I kinda recently quit. I've been hoping that i could get a real weightlifting coach soon, because I still want to try competing
>>40583 Huge difference. For instance, my left hook went from a punch that I had serious trouble throwing to one of the best in my repertoire, and I would have never figured out why without a coach. Practicing by myself certainly improved my power and stamina but my there are parts of my technique that I needed a coach for.
I stopped exercising. I feel disappointed in myself that I can't seem to nurture or better yet, ingrain hard iron discipline in myself and do something, anything, for my body in terms of exercise, every day or at least every two days. I already feel weaker, more depressed, more anxious, generally feeling worse than usual. I say it's because it's winter and it's cold, but in reality these are just excuses.
>>40620 Honestly, you just have to force the willpower to do it the first few times again. If it's still hard to go after like a week or two, then maybe you can either try things differently or just give up on it.
Also, wizzies, I'm in the gym at the moment, trying to get a 3RM on back squats. I just got 360lbs*3. Hoping to do 375 by 3 on my next set.
>>40635 Alright, I got 375 by 3 wizzies. Missed 380 by 3 though, lol. After I attempted 380 by 3, I did a 340 for 3*3 with a pause just before I hit the bottom, then did 17 straight reps of 225 in my next set >tfw lifting is the only thing that makes you feel alive
>>40636 And I definitely think that i can hit 400*3 before the year ends. Then I can make it my 2018 goal to reach 600 for a 1RM, which i think i could do if I maintain a stesdy calorie excess
>>42243 Depends on how new and out of shape you are? If you are really out of shape and go at it harder then your body can really handle then yeah it is pretty common.
The key is to slowly build yourself up with consistency. Doing too much too soon = pain.
>>40636 How are you maxing out safely in the gym? I literally haven't tested my max in a single exercise since I was in highschool ages ago. Currently I'm working out in my gym in the middle of the night, and it feels like it would be highly dangerous to load up a barbell with some heavy weights with nobody else around at all. Usually I just do 5x5s so I don't have to worry too much about failing, and I also substitute weighted chain exercises for others, such as weighted dips instead of benching.
i need to start doing something bad, my neet ways arent doing any favours to my body and general wellbeing. What can i do with no money and a 5kg handweight? running is good if i a never did it? used to do a lot of cardio but that was 2 years ago
>>42262 I'm not going to the gym yet but I do plan on going one day. I want to gain as much muscle as possible and so I'm going to have to lift heavy weights. Do you really need someone to watch you lift the weights for safety? I've always been nervous about this because I can't talk to anyone as a wizard, but I've seen weight lifters like eric bugenhagen have home gyms and no one was there with him when he lifted 300 pounds.
I can't believe how out of shape I am. I can't even run for a minute. It amazes me that people can run for over 26 miles straight. It seems impossible. I've been at this for a month now and still haven't really made any progress because shit starts hurting almost immediately when I start running.
>>42266 >Do you really need someone to watch you lift the weights for safety? It depends on the weight, your strength, and the exercise as well. Doing benchpress for example can be pretty painful without having a spotter there. A number of years ago I was using my 5x5 normal weight (240) for reps and failed out on the 5th rep in the final set. Had 240 fucking pounds on a bar across my chest at 3 AM in a completely empty gym. Ended up having to do the roll of shame where you roll the bar down across your body until you can sit up and remove it. Highly painful and it leaves bruises everywhere.
Squats on the other hand are much more potentially dangerous and painful than a bench could ever be.
>>42275 I too have done the roll of shame. It is one of those things that happens when you lift alone and arn't paying attention to what your body is telling you that day. Thankfully I have never had a problem with squats, but I have heard some horror stories and seen the aftermath of solo lifts gone wrong.
But I will say it again, listen to your body closely when you lift alone so you don't get yourself into trouble.
>>42270 You are making progress and just not realising it. Just push a bit further through the pain each time and sooner or later you'll also be running marathons
I only have 3 pairs of dumbbells up to 12kg, and a pull-up bar.
My height is 174cm and weight is 63kg.
I turned Scooby's intermediate level training into a full-body program, but I need someone to check it because I don't know if I'm doing it right or wrong. Thanks in advance.
>>42270 I was like this when I started running. One minute would kill me. Work up gradually. Go for a run but split it up between running and walking. 1 minute running, 1 minute walking. Or whatever. Then it goes to 2 minutes run 2 walk. Build it up as your fitness improves.
It took me two years to go from not being able to run for more than 2 minutes but I eventually was able to run for over 20. I stopped because knees and got into cycling which is fun as fuck nigga
fat wizard here. Every year for like five years, I try to lose weight. Every year I lose maybe 15-30 pounds tops while the weather is still good. Then it gets cold. The halloween candy comes. The holidays roll in. My life sucks. I'm not getting a succubus whether or not I lose 10 pounds or 100 pounds. Then I give up and gain it all back. I've just started walking a mile every day… I wonder if this year I'll stick to it. . .
I made a decision that I'll buy an indoor exercise bike, to exercise when I don't want to leave the house. Any recommendations about the models, or experiences?
As far as my current fitness goes, it's pathetic. During winter I did try to walk a lot, I live near a forest and I've been doing some 1h-2h tours through the paths (some are quite steep), but other than that, I'm not doing anything with myself. Every day I go through plans in my head on how I'll start a healthy life style, but I never do it.
>>42337 It's a huge piece of junk, takes lots of space, costs too much and you can get better exercise without one. Why did you decide to get one wiz? Maybe I can save you some money.
>>42338 Because I want an option of cardio workout at home, when I don't want to leave the house, which is especially useful during Winter or when I just don't have enough time.
>>42346 >>42352 I don't have much space in the room where I want to put it. Also I don't own a suitable bike.
>>42374 So I've gotten the indoor bike. I don't regret it so far. It can be a pretty intense cardio workout if you do it right. I listen to music while I do it, and time seems to pass by pretty fast. I like it that I have the option to do exercise even in raid, cold or simply because I don't want to leave the house. I don't get the hate against the machines and arguments that outdoor exercise is always better - why couldn't you have both options available? Especially for people who live in shithole areas.
Either way, it's getting warmer, and the days are longer, so I also reignited my outdoor exercise regime. Will try to run/walk/workout at least every 2 days - ideally 4 times per week somehow. Today I also used Strava for the first time - I like it and I think that it will take my running to next level.
whats the fastest way to lose fat weight? doing a competition with my mom, competing by loss of body weight %. if i win i get 40$ if she wins i have to put in a new flower bed. my goal over 5%(about 9 pounds) i have 3 weeks left and i haven't lost any weight. it's difficult because my mom ways more so she can shep pounds a lot faster than i can. i need some god tier non-meme advice. the bmi chart tells me im almost 30 pounds overweight and i don't wanna be a lard ass forever.
>>42982 Just do a general strength/hypertrophy program and reduce your caloric intake. Losing weight is determined entirely by your caloric intake and metabolic rate. If you wish, you could also take clenbuterol and T3 to increase your metabolic rate a bit, however, it would be best to avoid doing that for too long, as T3 can lead to decreased T4 levels, which is associated with decreased cognitive function. If you're really about it, then you could try DNP, which essentially forces your body to rely on fat stores for energy, but it can be dangerous if you dose too high. But can give you very drastic results, I've seen people say it allowed them to lose 50lbs a month. These all would go well in conjuction with an anabolic steroid, such as test or tren, to prevent any issues with your lean mass.
I would recommend that you research this further as well, as I have never taken any of these substances myself, only read about them.
Today's workout log: Week 4, day 1 of the russian squat program
Squats: 355lbs/161kg for 5 sets of 5 reps
Didn't feel so bad. The 6x6 I did last week was much worse, however, I dont think I paced myself well enough then. High rep squats always make me feel as though I'm going to vomit if I don't rest long enough between sets.
Clean and jerk: 3 sets of 1 rep with 225lbs/100kg
Kept it nice and easy here, since i didn't have much time left due to poor planning(i.e. paranoia/anxiety about going outside) and wasn't really able to fully recuperate enough to do heavy clean and jerks.
Went back after that, took a shower and got ready to go to my night classes.
>>42999 You sound a bit bitter for no reason whatsoever. DNP isn't suicide if dosed properly. Steroids are fine. People take recreational drugs and nootropics for fun or to make their mind more efficient. Why is it wrong to make your body more efficient? If you're lifting anyways, you're trying to do the exact same thing as someone who is roiding. If you think those reasons can only be inherently "normalfag", then perhaps you are the normalfag, or rather, a failed one.
>>42980 See >>42997 if you want to lose actual fat. However, if you want to lose weight only to beat your mom, eat less carbs. Will result in you carrying less water. Could make a difference of 5-10lbs even. Combined with a caloric deficit you could easily beat her.
>>42295 Doesn't seem terrible for what you have access too. However, compound movements with heavier weights would be a bit more beneficial if you get an opportunity to upgrade.
>>43007 Really just depends on your goals. Are you simply trying to build muscular endurance and burn a few calories? Then sure, that sounds nice enough.
Checked out the planet fitness next to my job to see if I should sign up for such a low price. Turns out they don't really have any of the big 3 lifts in free weights. No dead, no bench, and no squat. They have one smith machine and some dumbbells as far as weights go. Everything else is just machines. I noped right the fuck out of there. I would be better off slowly but surely buying my own set of weights.
I have a bad shoulder and a pretty likely stomach hernia. I can't afford to fix either. I don't want to make these two things worse, any particular exercises I should avoid? I don't lift heavy weights, only dumbbells. I'm willing to just do calisthenics as well if it comes down to it.
>>43107 Yeah, probably. Anything is better than being sedentary.
Hey, can anyone critique my routine? I dug my Dad's old weight bench out of the basement and I'm pretty new at this. Pretty much exclusively working on my arms because I'm a scrawny fuck.
3 x 10 bench press
3 x 10 standing curls
3 x 15 dips
3 x 25 underhand spring bar squeezes
Waiting 1 minute in between sets. I do 3 x 30 pushups every day too.
>>43265 It works well for some people and the science is reasonable but most people can't do it long term. I think if you don't do a lot of cardio and want to add a little extra push to yor cut then it is a useful tool, but I wouldn't use it as a long term lifestyle diet
>>43265 It's possible, but very hard to maintain. Your thought process will be very clear, but you will be very slow. It's better to just eat healthy. Yogurt is a very good place to start. Gut flora is the major thing that keeps people obese. If you can replace the gut flora, then you will notice a change in eating habits with zero effort on your part. Sour cream, sauerkraut, kimchi, kombucha, and yogurt are all really good if you don't add refined sugar to them.
But I recommend starting with yogurt and sour cream. For yogurt, look for greek Wallaby's or Fage. I eat 0% fat because it doesn't really matter, all you want is the probiotics. Greek yogurt itself is very tangy, so I cut a half of an apple up into small bits and mix it into the yogurt. I sometimes also add peanuts.
>>43265 It's a meme. Like all other diet fads, the benefits you get from it are more about what you aren't eating. Like cake, soda, etc etc. You get benefits from looking at your diet and avoiding overly processed foods. That's about it. When you eat bread and pasta, etc, make it wholegrain. What you want is to eat the stuff that modern factories pull out of food to make it look nicer and last longer, but is actually important for gut flora.
>>43265 In 2015 I tried it after packing on like 30lbs in a couple weeks without noticing it. They say the diet is difficult to maintain but I panicked so that powered my resolve. I ate nothing but 1/3rd a stick of butter each day for 40 days. I lost all the weight plus an additional 10lbs.
How can wizards become fat? There was a wiz that said he hates eating, it's just annoying and he would prefer to just eat once a day. I agree, I don't see how people can eat a lot to become fat, I don't even eat normal sized portions, I don't understand how someone can eat beyond that and do so continuously.
>>43830 Overeating is one of the most basic and widespread copes for emotional discomfort there is. Some people may also simply enjoy eating for reasons beyond its fundamental function of providing sustenance. Then again many users of this site lead a moderately to extremely sedentary lifestyle with negligible physical exertion, facilitating the build-up of fat reserves. Additionally, unhealthy diets can exacerbate the effects all three previous factors have on the body even further. This is by no means a comprehensive overview of why some people may have a larger weight than others, but it should sufficiently answer your broad-sweeping accusatory question.
How do I REDUCE my ass? I am having good results with a low calorie intake diet and replacing eating with other vices, mainly, daydreaming in long walks. but everywhere I look and everywhere I search for ways to reduce ass volume I only see shit to make it firm and round, I DON'T WANT TO BE A FEMBOY I want to have cero ass, i want it to cave IN. what do I do?
>>43734 CC2 and C-mass by the same guy >>43123 Don't do any free weights if you have shoulder problems. Check out CC1 and do step 1 baby excercises for a year twice per week for recovery. Also do the stretching triumphirate in CC2.
