Do you ever watch shitty/obscure/forgotten anime just for the hell of it?

http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x2bml9_is-littlekuriboh-writing-for-yu-gi_fun#.UbxvqfnqlEI

I haven't kept up with anime trends in a long time, last thing I really remember was when K-on and PAnty stocking were all the rage

 No.23425

 No.23681

I don't know if they're shitty or obscure, but the majority of the anime I watch are pretty old, 80's and 90's usually, and some 10's
It's kinda painful to think how much effort might have been put into them, or how loved they might have been, but now they're completely forgotten and tossed away and how indicative of their age they may be(usually 00's anime), I don't know why those thoughts come sometime.

 No.23682

>>23425
No joke, this was the first anime besides pokemon that I've enthusiastically followed

 No.23683

>PAnty stocking

Is it shitty? I got it just before nyaa died. This would be my first anime in many years. It looks hilarious.

 No.23684

>>23683
Not OP, but it's pretty entertaining and the art style and animation is unique, even when trying to imitate American 00's cartoons. The main characters might be a major turn-off to some wizards, but the major draw-in is the crude humor, and it's still an old favorite of mine

 No.23685

K-On still has a huge cult following and Panty & Stocking is far from obscure or forgotten.
And how is that unfunny HP gif related to anime?

 No.23686

Most 20th century anime is obscure now beyond the huge titles. So, yes.

That's practically the only stuff I'm interested in.

there's a manga sequel thats being translated currently

 No.26515

I'm just absolutely amazed how anime of today is so radically different in style and format from anime 10-20 years ago. Something made in 2008 has more in common with something from 1998 or even 1988 than something from 2018. I feel like the characters have become really unbearable and annoying in a way they never were before.

>Something made in 2008 has more in common with something from 1998 or even 1988 than something from 2018.
No, you are clearly exaggerating wa too much. General anime stylistics were pretty much streamlined since early 2000s. 90s had a very different style.
Haven't watched anything from the last several seasons yet though. But I doubt 2018 anime is so much different from, say, 2016.

 No.26517

is that bobobobobobo?

 No.26518

>>26515
Everything is CGI now + anime is no longer usually inspired by real life stuff, instead otaku make anime based on their favorite anime or hentai artist and other otaku get the same idea and so on, like an ouroboros, resulting in rainbow-haired abstract personification moeblob succubus/trap with an annoying irredeemable personality #8717263955

 No.26519

>>26518
>anime is no longer usually inspired by real life stuff
And that's an absolutely good thing. That's what makes modern anime better than "olsdschool" normgroid-oriented westaboo crap.

Any suggestions for good modern anime without flavor of the month waifu stuff and a cast that isn't entirely/majority succubi?

Or even better: go watch tv dramas with le realistic cast. That'd be up your valley. In fact, many normgroids in anime fandom eventually fucked off to watching movies and dramas, so it's not like the path isn't well-trodden.

Panty and stockings is fucking great though , there's even an episode about wageslaving

The characters aren't meant to be liked , the producers made them bitchy on purpose so people want to hatefuck them

'le le le le you're a normgroid (can't say normalfag because that'd be non-pc, bigot!) le le le le le le le'
Are your striped socks on too tight?

 No.26527

>>26526
Nice projection, normgroid.
Seriously tho, try out some tv series. Not even necessarily Japanese. Like Doctor House, for example. Or Game of Thrones. I can guarantee it will be rrrright up your alley. Very mature and with real-life inspirations, lol.

 No.26529

>>26524
I remember seeing that one, at least the succubi are purposely horrible and meant comedically

 No.26545

>>23683

Westerners loved it, but Japanese Otakus "cringed" at it or whatever the equivalent of cringe is for them, so a season 2 is highly unlikely. I didn't cared for it honestly.

Wizchan 2018.

 No.26552

>>26546
This, not sure how popular P&S was again but K-On was one of the biggest things in anime when it just aired. It's like saying Haruhi is obscure because it aged a bit.

 No.26559

>>26546
>>26552
I don't think OP was saying that K-On and P&S are obscure/forgotten. He most likely meant that he hasn't been following anime trends closely since K-On and P&S were being popular.

 No.26560

>>26559
It's EXACTLY what he meant. Those guys are probably trying to show off too hard that they didn't bother to read twice.

 No.26563

>>26545
The reason there's no season 2 is because half of Gainax left to form Trigger

 No.26655

>>26560
Well now that I understand OP's point I'd say that he's the one showing off by boasting about how little he knows of modern trends when pretty much no one here cares about modern anime anymore as proven by the amount of posts about 80s and 90s anime.

I know it ISN'T obscure but this post is the first mention of Haruhi I've seen in about 5 years. It's a shame because it was an alright series with a lot of spin-off content, but kids getting in to anime now will probably never end up indulging in it.

 No.30219

I don't even pay attention to weather it's obscure or not. If I find and anime that I like the look of I watch it.

 No.30220

This. Fuck what the normies think. I like anime I like, not because it's popular or obscure.

 No.30221

>Do you ever watch shitty/obscure/forgotten anime just for the hell of it?
All the time.
Currently watching a show called
Those who hunt for elves.
The first season was abysmal but the second one has gotten the hang of the jokes, tone, and animation/budget limitations.

>>23425
Me and most of my household loved how silly that show was. Mom hated it and thought it was incomprehensibly dumb though (she wasn't wrong). Didn't even care that most of the jokes were Japaneses puns that didn't translate at all. The whole thing was absurd and the nonsensical puns that didn't translate just added to the charm.

Its a pretty fun series, but drags on at times, specially when they focus on Happosai who is really annoying.

That describes a 1/3 of what I watch.

To me, the characters capture the way succubi behave in my very specific corner of North bay California. I have never seen it depicted accurately in any other form of media. It's kind of endearing because of its familiarity.

>Do you ever watch shitty/obscure/forgotten anime just for the hell of it?
I used to, back when torrenting wasn't dead and private trackers actually had open invites. I still keep up with a few of the translators that have been collecting weird OVAs and shows since the 80s, like skaro. That being said, I don't think we should associate all the old stuff with being "forgotten", especially if it's something like Ranma or Excel Saga, both already considered to be cult classics. Any type of preserved animation that was made with cels and acrylic paint will eventually be in a museum. As for the digitally animated schlock of today, not much of it was culturally relevant, but I assume stuff like madoka or maybe even episodes of ekoda-chan will be put behind a digital glass wall in a cyberseum some distant day in the fyoocha.

I said most, buddy. I'll give anything a chance. This season alone I've watched a couple series… hated most of them, but Odd Taxi, Yokai Watch and Gloomy are okay. But if my opinions on the actual quality of animation irked you, that is a statement I'm afraid I cannot take back. We all know traditional hand-painted animation is better my friend. I know studios will never go back to inhouse animation, but if everything from now on is going to be toonboom, motion rigged 2.5D rigamarole, can cartoons at the very least, get a little more creative and experiment with some mixed media?

Digital is the superior medium and allows for considerably wider range of atmosphere, tone, and creative direction, while vastly cheaper and faster. It's objectively better in all ways. Cry foul all you want, but I couldn't care less about the opinion of some failed normalfag who couldn't cut it.

Not really sure what qualifies, been listening a lot to japanese radio variety shows the past years and they bring up shows ranging from the stone age til current season in a way that assumes it's the most common of knowledge.
