my brother plays that game all day and when I ask him to play something else with me he starts to cry. I hope my mum stops giving him money because he spends it all in games, the stupid idiot thinks he's a gamer for having 200 games on steam of which he only have played 10. Damn, stupid kid I wish I had his luck when I was his age… He even gets to eat fancy asian food which I've never got the taste of when I was that young because we were piss poor.

I played it back in the day but at the time I preferred mortal kombat.

Then 3d fighters came out which were my true jam. I just don't like 2d/2.5d fighters all that much.
I miss the fighting game genera but I haven't really played much, and nothing new since I switched over to PC only.
I know that Saga will probably never port my favorite fighting game to PC or make a new one in the next decade if ever, but there really must be a 3d fighter out there that I can play on my PC that is really worth my time.
Maybe the new Soul Caliber will be as good as 2 (didn't really like any of the others after), or the upcoming DoA game if they don't censor it to hell, or maybe I should just bite the bullet and get good at Tekken.
IDK, there hasn't been something that really stood out to me as must play when it comes to 3d fighters on the PC. 90% of the fighting game focus seems to be on 2.5d stuff that I just am not into.

 No.45162

>>45145
Before non-shit online play was a thing playing the computer excessively was required and expected. To truly get good you still would have to occationally play skilled human opponents, but if you don't care about something like that then there are a lot of fighting games that have a lot of content and suport for solo play.
Actually the game I am playing now is great in that regard (soul caliber 6). The last few MK games and the injustice games are also known for their great story mode and single player experience.

 No.45566

>>45549
My sister always used to beat me by button mashing on any fighting game, while I played like a pro. Anyone else have that experience? How the hell does it work.

 No.45567

>>45566
i did the same, beat all my friends in school back then in every fighting game by mashing buttons, enraging some of them really hard because they felt they were pro and knowledgeable. the secret is timing, while you waste time on thinking about your moves and combos i just hit the button when my intuition tells me, i have more awareness and calmness. once i caught you off guard you will just panic making even more mistakes while i button mash you to death. i doubt this would work against a real pro whos an expert in countering, but people like you are usually those half serious players that only think about offense and never spent a second training defense, so when their offense fails they die.

fighting games are a nearly exclusively companion-centric thing and you will be forever shit unless you hang out with people IRL regularly.
these normalfags you will be forced to play with are constantly moving on to "the next big thing". if you like a game and want to play it, you will be playing it completely alone soon, within a year probably, making all of your practice and money invested worthless instantly. you know how many people are playing street fighter IV still? zero. you know how many iterations that game had and how much DLC it has? probably $900 worth. all worthless now cause no one plays it. if you suggest to play it they'll say "wtf dude no, i'm practicing this new anime fighter, besides that game is shit and broken" because every old game is "shit" even though they liked it at the time.
the normalfags you are forced to play with are braindead apes that talk in buzzwords and memes and use weird coded twitter language that will take you a year to learn on its own. when they try to "help" you, they'll talk in this weird coded language and think you're a retard for not understanding. they'll just think you're a retard in general and ostracize you in under 12 hours.

also i don't know if you care about this or not but most local fighting game hangouts have 0 white people, or their one white person will be a succubus/tranny.

it is a complete waste of time, money and energy.

Yea, I've noticed fighting games seem to appeal a lot to niggers, spics, and mentally deranged whites. I'm assuming most people in this thread are non-white.

 No.46567

I can't stand playing multiplayer games since the other players tend to be like rubbing against sandpaper, but you get better at them by doing the "training mode" and learning all of the "frame data" so that you know that doing, say, 236 a (down, down forward, forward, horizontal) is less frames than your opponents attack, or that your opponent will do something like parry, so you do a slow break attack.

Played a bunch of Soulcalibur VI this way. Got pretty good but mostly because I don't watch or copy other people but instead make up my own gameplan based on what other people do.

 No.46591

I have never payed much attention to frame data in all honesty.
I do however pay attention to hitboxes and the various states (invulnerability frame, hit stun, etc.).
I rather develop a sense of timing and spacing from playing the game, espcially with well made ai, then doing tech drills in practice mod and counting frame in replays. Maybe with such a mind set I will not be world class competative level, but I have a lot more fun and still am able to do relatively well in casual play.
Besides, the single player of a lot of fighting games now days is actually pretty good. You can have a lot of fun without knowing anyone who also plays, going to tournaments, or having a superb ping in online match ups.

Whatever should I do!
I think the only time I played a game against someone else was once when a neighbor allowed me into their house, since then I've literally only play alone or random online matches. It's not too uncommon from what I hear, those people are just obviously not gonna be in tournies much
>also i don't know if you care about this or not but most local fighting game hangouts have 0 white people, or their one white person will be a succubus/tranny.

the second a new guilty gear comes out, xrd 2 will be dropped like a rock and people who previously loved it and bought all dlc will claim it's shit and unbalanced.
even if the new game in the series is literally manure, ala SFV, MvC:I, the new dead or alive, normalfag fighting game "enthusiasts" will play them anyways and drop the old (superior) predecessor.

i've asked many of them why they do this, and the response I sometimes get (besides propagating that the old superior game is "bad" like a retard like previously mentioned) is "i play it because of the EVO money" even though none of them ever go to EVO and if they did would never ever win anyway.

Practice, practice and more practice are the only way to get good at fighting games. Strategic skills like matchup and character knowledge will become 2nd nature as a byproduct of simply playing the game.

Watching professional matches and trying to emulate and incorporate what you see there in your own gameplan is also a good way to get better.

Let's play Street Fighter (One)

 No.51512

I suck at them in general, but then I played Capcom vs. SNK on Dreamcast every day for a couple of months and now it's actually fun.

 No.51513

>>51512
Also I realized that VS. fighting games are just no fun to play with pad (well, especially with Dreamcast controller, which is the final blunder of Sega).

When you play a lot with stick, you will also find that their quality matter. Threw Seimitsu LS-32 in to the offical Dreamcast stick and Sanwa 30mm push-in buttons.

Fun.

Mastering one game will make you good at other games of same company. All Capcom fighters have very similar mechanics and SNK games, including other than KoF's too, even more.

Arcade fighting games and STG's are just perfect games to play when drunk. They are hard, but fast to complete when you can handle them.

 No.51526

I tried getting into them back in 2018 and even spent $500 (stupid impulsive purchase) on a hitbox and fightstick because I wanted to see which one was better for me and really thought I would stay committed to fighting games.

If you actually want to learn and have fun you need to go to your local fighting game community (you most likely have one unless you live in the middle of nowhere). I was too scared to go to mine and didn't want to interact with too many people so I gave it up.

 No.51530

Is this like your memoir?

 No.51536

>>51526
I stick to using controller, which is probably why I prefer to play 3d fighting games rather then 2d%2.5d ones.

You see some pros still using controllers at even the highest levels of play so I think it is probably fine not to spend a ton of money on sticks unless you grew up with arcade cabinets or plan of playing on cabinets for tournaments.
I mean they are nice and all, but I don't think they are worth it for most players and is totally optional.

 No.51538

I was a Diamond Ibuki a couple of years back before my fightstick started giving me wrist pain so had to stop using it.

I tried a PS4 controller and it was actually really comfortable but I was having massive (and very basic) execution errors. Something as simple as activating VT wouldn't come out consistently, and if I changed the config then something else requiring 2 button presses at once (ex moves) wouldn't come out. Was super frustrating and I couldn't fix it.

Wanted to try a hitbox but custom ones are super expensive (250 euros at least) for some odd reason and I'm too brainlet for DIY. I'm paranoid about those giving me hand pain too and selling a custom hitbox would be much harder if that happened to be the case.

I do miss playing them a bit though.

 No.51540

>>51538
I will admit it takes a lot more practice to get consistentcy with inputs on controller.

Maybe adjusting your posture using the fightstick would help with your ergonomics so it wouldn't hurt your wrist?

 No.51541

>>51536
>You see some pros still using controllers at even the highest levels
Thats true. Tekken cabs in Japan up-to Dark Resurrection had PS controller ports.

The original and SCPH-1080 are very good for Tekken 3 and newer and all VF clones with sidestep.

Saturn controller is good for Capcom and SNK 2D fighters (and great for shmups, better than any stick, Seimitsu LS-40 included).

 No.55789

I've been playing brawlhalla, I never played a fighting game before, and I played a couple hours sucking real bad, then I took a character into training mode and realized there was a really good move combo I could use, basically just light uppercut then heavy uppercut right after. Now I am using this same combo over and over again and I'm winning almost every single game. I guess if you are playing with complete beginners then even having a single combo down puts you at the top

 No.55794

No, I didn't mean it like that. To get good at fighting games you have to be able to flawlessly execute movesets on demand. To do this you need to train for hours on hours a day to commit it to muscle memory. All this for what? Just so you can beat some rando online?

If that is your idea of fun, sure whatever, go for it. If you want to get into fighting games with the intent of getting good then expect to sink a fuckton of time into it.

You can leave any time bro. If you don't see any value or enjoyment in games it's totally cool. Not every hobby is for every person.

If you want to get into X with the intent of getting good then expect to sink a ton of time into it.

Where X = archery, bicycling, drawing, driving, musical instrument, work or gaming

What's your point, bro?

 No.55824

I started playing street fighter 3 on fightcade, you can get the rom for free and then play online I guess. I never played a fighting game before so I've just been practicing on bots, it is a lot more simple then I thought it would be. I chose to play makoto and I can do all her combos like 80% of the time after a few hours, I guess the only thing to do now is learn the other characters attacks and how to position and what not which seems like it will be the bulk of the learning.

 No.55829

>>55814>
Video games are pretty useless in the fact that you cannot gain anything out of it. Physical activities like archery and bicycling are good for your health. Skills like driving, drawing, and music can at least earn you money. Gaming only exists as a way to pass time.

Anyway, I am not here to debate about how useful hobbies are. I am just saying getting good at fighting games requires a fuck ton of time.

archery has negligible health benefits. I used to do it a lot and it only damaged me in some ways, because it has asymmetrical effect on your muscles, and is a repetitive motion.
Drawing and music don't lead to meaningful money for the vast majority of people.
If you want exercise then go to a gym. If people are doing something with a side-effect of a little exercise, they are mostly just doing it for fun.

Mental health is at least as important as physical health. If people can derive enjoyment out of something then it has health benefits. Of course it is possible to play too much

Life is a waste of time. To put it another way, nothing is a waste of time. There is no reason to spend time being "productive" - there is no meaning to life, so it doesn't make sense - there is nothing to be productive toward. To me it only makes sense to say: if you enjoy playing and it enhances your life, go for it; if you take a step back and think you would be happier on balance doing something else in the long-term, then dont play

I have few Dreamcast fighters I'd like to start playing and learning, but then I drink and end up playing Capcom vs. SNK anyway, which I have played a lot and much more.

Especially I'd like to play Last Blade 2, but no. DoA2 is a nogo because of distractions (and I don't really like sidestepping, so no Soulcalibur either).

This will happen again later today. It's Friday compulsion: vodka, aforementined game with one hand and writing bullshit on irc with the other.

And yes, I do know that alcohol is the problem, but without it I don't seem to have any interest in playing videogames at all anymore. I went two months without drinking just now and for once I started playing for all of five minutes.
