I liked some shootem vidya but I am too autistic to enjoy shooters now because I will play a new COD and I can instantly see all the flaws in the design or intentional ways they have lowered the skill gap and skill ceiling.

Yes. That number is determined by total copies purchased not the current number of players. 99% of people who bought it don't play it anymore. Install it and try to queue up for a ranked match at any time of day in North America.
Unranked matches are filled with bots and have as much as 95% robot players.
The only games in the lobby list are in Asia. The game is big in China still but no one plays it in Canada/USA anymore.

I vastly prefer single player FPS games on xbox 360, there were so many good ones, I like the fun linear ones, open world ones are fun too, but not the same and not worth replaying generally speaking. There are almost no linear singleplayer FPS games anymore, last gen had only some COD games, which were far worse than the ones on xbox 360, I only liked Infinite Warfare and also Titanfall 2 and Halo 5. Apparently the new Bioshock is open world so I guess the trend towards open world shooters will continue.

I was addicted to Insurgency: Sandstorm for the greater chunk of last year. Got pretty good??, see clip. It was like what you preferred until about a week ago. It's a CQC milsim with heavy focus on voice communication. Most guns are 1-shot kill and full auto so it is easy to mow down a wave of real players if you learn the maps and exploit them to your advantage.

The other team could hear all of your voice chat and it was very directional and simulated echo and distortion. If you knew an enemy was in a room you could call him a faggot over the mic and hear him tell you to suck his dick, revealing his precise position, then shoot through the wall to silence him. Guys would run around blasting Welcome To The Cum Zone over proximity, and if you were defending you'd be able to hear it muffled in the distance, getting clearer and louder until a group of tangos kicked through the door. If someone's character was black it was customary to call them a nigger and throw a smoke grenade at them. If someone had a Twitch(dot)tv link in their name you'd quote FBI statistics to their audience.

The dev's solution to the fun times up until their latest blog post was to just remind players that they can mute any one person or the whole team with a button on the scoreboard, but now they've outlined clauses to the rules to include racism, homophobia, and specifically misogyny as bannable offenses. They'll be reviewing game demos for these things said over the mic from now on.

 No.53065

>>53062
I just watched a clip of gameplay and I have to say it's mostly good. It would be better if most of the guns were semi-automatic not automatic (most guns used by the military are semi-automatic, although they have the option to make them fully automatic) and if there was recoil which would nerf the automatic guns and give semi-automatics some usage

 No.53066

>>53065
also make it so the rebels are less experienced than the normal soldiers (e.g. when reload when their current mag is 5/6 they lose all those 5 bullets although that could work if it affects both sides, also dont have an ammo counter, you have to check your mag to see if you have enough or not)

 No.53068

>>53062
The first retail Insurgency was (or is) a polished up version (except for the new shitty menu system of Valve) of the mod with more maps, but Sandstorm is absolute garbage: levels are simply too big for intensive cqc and the performance is abysmal (or at least it was year ago).

The 'milsim' is quite casually used today: OFP, Armed Assault, ARMA2 and their military training counterparts are real military simulators, but Insurgency, Squad (or Project Reality mod) or say Ostfront or RO2 sure as hell aren't.
They are just regular FPS's with cherrypicked realism elements like somewhat realistic ballistics and bullet penetration (present in CS 1.6 and CSS too, by the way).

But why in the hell's name they use Battleye. Is there not enough intrusive software running with Steam alone? And the game uses VAC too, so what's the point? The playerbase is so small compared to popular multiplayer shooters and there is very little change for monetary expoitation, that the Battleye is really overkill.

 No.53069

>>53068
Also the audio in Insurgency is really great, but they really shoudn't have changed to mongrel English with the rebels, but to use Arabic, which would be more realistic.

It's a real shame that Armyops was butchered: up-to version 2.5 it was a great semi-realistic multiplayer shooter, where you would always play as the good guys.
In fact I think it is great concept where the player always plays on one side. No need to ponder wether to play as a Kraut or Ruskie or some other such bullshit.

 No.53072

>>53071
Battle royales have that bubble thing that forces you to move. Usually fps that have open maps and fast movement don't get camping because standing still means you'll just get killed faster.

 No.53075

Defending is camping and mechanism to brake that in large and open maps is artillery and/or air support.

For example in Red Orchestra 2 it works, but can be extremely frustrating if you spawn only to be blasted to hell almost instantly.

In Ostfront there wasn't spawn on squad leader and the times between artillery (and in RO2 there is both mortar and artillery with lower times in-between) strikes was longer.
Unfortunately it is now completely dead. Some of the changes in RO2 are just annoying and do I hate all kinds of zooming, damn it.

 No.53076

And boy do I hate the fact that Tripwire had things worked out for them in regards to weapons balance and tank mechanism with the Darkest Hour mod for Ostfront, but nope, they went their own way with RO2.

Playing Red Orchestra Ostfront for decade or so was probably the best multiplayer experience I ever had or ever will.
Day of Defeat 3.1 beta before it comes close, but it didn't last long.

So now there is the half-assed RO2 or fast, slightly fun and completely unrealistic Day of Defeat Source to play. Or WW2 Online, but that pill I'm afraid to take again, it will take each and every hour of the day.

This in regards to WW2 multiplayer shooters. Great War one would be nice too and I think there is one, but it is still in development. The Trenches mod for HL1 was fun even with the limited classes and maps of the second beta, but that only lasted two years or so.

I started with Half-Life games, then played CS:S, then went into gradually more "hardcore" games: Battlefield 2, then Red Orchestra, then Arma 2/3. I think it culminated in me wanting to join the military because no game was realistic enough. Then I found out the modern military sucks balls and they won't let me in because I have asthma anyway. I almost started developing my own super realistic game in VR until I suddenly lost all interest in vidya and now I think I want to learn to hunt as that's the next best thing.

 No.53873

Started FPS with Ultimate Doom. It was the only shooter I had until like 2003 aside from Duke 3D, a demo CD of Dark Forces, Check Quest and the ROTT shareware.

From there, I moved onto the Halo Trilogy, Doom Collector's Edition, Doom 3, Doom 64, Quake, Heretic, Hexen, Strife: Quest for the Sigil, Wolfenstein 3D, Half-Life and its expansions and Half-Life 2.

Some others included Quake 2, Quake 4, Day of Defeat, Counter-Strike, TF2, AvP 2, PlanetSide 2, the original Call of Duty and Metro 2033.

Currently, I play none. It's something to behold how mental illness just drains all of ones willingness to do anything.

Disgusting. Clones are great if they're made to look sufficiently mook-ish and indistinct, un-individualistic, like archetypes of a class, then it looks fine and cool when there's 20 of them running around.

I have absolutely no interest in playing any modern fps game that forgoes these core principles for cruddy "hero" characters with shit designs, cringe bios and zany one-liners, to sell skins and appeal to waste people. Unfortunately this is pretty much all of them, so I don't play the genre anymore. I used to love R6 Siege until the art direction went down the complete shitter for this exact reason, in the case of that game it's not even just bad, it's straight up offensive.

Though what you're talking about is slightly different, and equally as retarded (how the fuck can you have a ww2 game without factions?) it goes hand in hand with the above, which is almost definitely why they decided not to even include teams, because the characters aren't just cool army soldiers anymore, they're tryhard turds. I blame TF2 for starting this garbage, even though it was done well, it was the precursor to everything I hate about modern multiplayer games.

 No.55330

I hate them because it is the parts I like the least in multiplayer shooters.
Waiting around, camping, and running away from encounters.

I prefer fast paced aggressive games in tight, dense, maps that discourage staying in one position or playing hyper defensively for extended periods of time.

In br games the best tactic is to hide and occasionally pop out when you have a overwhelming positional advantage as well as surprise on your side, and run away if you don't have such a advantage.
I think such games are popular because it allows people who suck at things typically needed to be good at shooters, like raw mechanical skill, to have a chance at occasionally winning by playing like a total bitch.
Fuck that, I want to kick down doors and blow shit up in fast paced tactical action.

 No.55331

>>55330
same but remove the tactical part, I want chaos

 No.55346

Put in a lot of hours of hell let loose. Great game, a bit slow at times if that's not your thing. The maps are big so movement takes a bit of time, especially if you wanna get on a flank. But most of the maps are well designed which is why I like it so much.

Another complaint is optimization is pretty bad, but I think this is due to the limitation of making the playing field of the game more fair. You can't really cut corners with the grass densities and stuff or else people on lower graphics settings have an advantage. Like easily spotting your player model better.

Over all I have 200 hours in the game, and still play it every now and then. Look out for a sale on this one and gave it a try if you like slower-paced shooters that require communication.

I tried COD Vanguard for the free weekend. It was OK and at this point it seems like COD is the only FPS I'm comfortable with so I'm kinda stuck. But I enjoyed it a lot less than BOCW.

I'm not usually the type to have gamer gripes, but the no factions is a real detriment. Its ironic Battlefield V got so much hate as the ultimate SJW game just because it had succubi soldiers. While the supposed reason COD doesn't have an Axis faction is they don't want to sell Nazi skins. Which B5 had no problem doing.

I've also heard that it was purely financial decision, so that you could be the skin you paid for 100% of the time. And evidence for that is that BF2042 also doesn't have operators for each faction. Despite being a less controversial future USA vs Russia war.

Beyond that the quicker to die TTK kill time, is detrimental to me, as I did much worse in MW19 than in BOCW. I know some people claim quick TTK favors noobs and you can just ambush and the skilled guy doesn't have time to react. But in my experience its worse.

I'll probably still end up buying it, if it drops to $40. I figure if I get 30 hours of playtime its still worth it from a $$$ POV. Although I think I will primarily stick with BOCW hopefully its playerbase will be sustained.

I almost dropped it when I found out it's one of these games where you can wander around the map forever and find no one and suddenly you get shot down by some asshole with an overpowered scoped rifle. there's a pve element here but honestly the enemies don't feel threatening at all, and the bosses you have to track down and kill are little more than hp sponges just aimlessly wandering around some house, barn or whatever. I get that it's mainly a pvp game but the enemies are such pushovers it's disappointing.

I tried Halo, it was OK. tbh I'm new to FPS and not so good at em. In Halo I have a tough time taking down bots, even with infinite ammo and health.

I'm glad there is a bot mode to practice and improve on, especially in a free game.

I just dont feel much motivation to invest the energy and time in improving. I guess I do kinda care about the setting of FPS. Be it historic or near future. I like to roleplay my own scenarios, from my own knowledge of history and alternate history fantasies. And when its just generic scifi goons battling each other, it doesn't mean much to me. Yes, and with no luck whatsoever reaching even k/d-ratio, when you haven't played it in couple of years or so.

There really isn't any other game with better or improved mechanics in this what became a multiplayer fps genre of its own.

CSS with is rubberbanding is completely different, although it retained the outer shell of the original mod and final (1-1.6) release.
Even so, there isn't a SINGLE vanilla server that isn't also non-steam server, joining and frequenting of which can lead to account ban by Valve. I quess most Source players went to GlobO or back to 1.6.

Now about GO I don't really know much, because I played it for just few hours (and that was after it became free-to-play) and did not enjoy it a bit.

So yes, for a dose of ct-terrorist -action, CS1.6 is still good to go, with decent amount of players, most of whom are skilled to the extreme and offer brutal multiplayer experience for newcomers and those out of the loop for a while.

I've been enjoying playing with LMGs, I really feel like a 1-man army behind them

It seems like all 3 of the major franchises, had trainwreck launches this year. BF 2042, COD and Halo. General consensus is Halo had the best gameplay. But they also had that crazy battlepass system that made it impossible to advance without paying.

 No.55880

They fixed the battlepass and now it's easier to advance, I may actually buy it tbh.

don't you love it when team mates completely ignore the objective and only go for kills instead?

Wining the match is fun, being a loser isn't.
>>55889
In most cases in practice it's not helpful and the people doing it only trade kills rather than be in the positive anyway.
Rambo play in a tactical game just gets you shot from 3 directions since the other team is working together while you mess around.
Just play a arena shooter or something if you don't want to play the objective. They are fun and could use the player population boost.

a good rambo player obliterates the enemy team since they are constantly rushing them. fuck vidya

 No.55904

>>55895
In a tactical shooter it doesn't.
Even if it did it would be suboptimal at best compared to using that effort to play the objective and work with the team. More often than not it's actively detrimental in the attempt.

If you want to just run around like a idiot or play without tactical forthought then play a arena shooter or deathmatch mode.

 No.55906

>>55904
Well lets say its 6v6, if 2 rambos kill 3 enemies. Then the remaining 4-obj players should be able to easily overwhelm the remaining 3 enemies and do the obj.

Even if the majority were Ramboing, it would still leave 3 vs 2 to take the obj. And this is a modest level of success. If he's really Ramboing, the ratio should be even more skewed.

A high KDR isn't always good, if the absolute number of kills is low. But if both the KDR and absolute numbers are high. Then you have no excuse to blame the rambo. He is giving you a numerical advantage at the obj, that you should be able to exploit.

When I started with Battlefield 1/5, I tried the medic, but it was rather challenging reviving allies in the heart of the battle, and using a submachine gun for close ranged combat. I find the support class is a much better support role. Just spraying fast LMG fire without having to aim precisely. And constantly recharging allies with ammo.

 No.55916

not officially but devs allow you to create one with perks, gadgets and killstreaks. call in crates with supplies, all I do is deactivate traps and throw smoke on chokepoints. this was in bo2 and earlier games though, not sure how cod is these days
>>55914
maybe if they didn't get taken out out in the open it'd be easier to help, guess they don't let you drag teammates to a safe location and then revive/heal. no smoke cloud for cover or anything?

 No.55919

>>55909
We both know you wouldn't be able to do that in a tactical shooter.
When you run out away from the team trying to play rambo and get shot without doing anything productive it will be your fault when you get kicked.

i always played healers out of necessity since nobody else wanted to, but i kinda like playing healer on games when they don't strictly make it a helpless pocket healer slut. medic/support on older bf games was cool because the weapons were nice from what i recall, and medic on tf2 could be really enjoyable (feels godly when you toggle invuln on 2-3 teammates at once). i played some fun characters on mmos and heroes of the storm too.

One of the few times I enjoy a healer class/role was bad company games.
Mostly because the lmg in those games were pretty good and didn't give you a huge movement and accuracy penalty. So I could actually move around the map properly and didn't have to use hundreds of rounds to hit something longish range.
Healing was a side benefit.

What I didn't like about the class is it had a hard time dealing with vehicles.
Overall all the classes were really good in those games.
Too bad battlefield games are mediocre now.

 No.55923

Its strange to pair the healer with the LMG rather than SMG like in B1 B5. LMG is a distance weapon, while the medic needs to be up close and personal, reviving right where the enemy killed them.

When I 1st started getting back into gaming I was wondering why FPS were so ridiculously popular. Like even games very far removed from the war or action genre, had to shoe horn in carrying a gun into adventure story-driven open world games. I figured it was a way to make the player feel like he is doing something, actively participating and being stimulated. Rather than just a point n click adventure or running sim.

But now I've started getting into casual FPS games myself, and I see the thrill of it. I always thought of FPS as fast twitch reflexes. The sports jocks of gaming. But these days they've dumbed down FPS on easy level that even an idiot spaz like me can enjoy it. Its practically on the level of those old pop up ad "games" where u just have to aim the bubble. And you're also a bullet sponge against enemy fire. So you can just stand in the open carefully taking aim at your own pace.

There really isn’t a single player aside from a handful of tutorial missions that are all in the multiplayer maps. You can play without a mic, but lots of people use theirs. I got a lot of good fun out of it but I don’t think it’s worth buying at this point, though see if you like it. It’s a big game to install.

Damn, I am actually getting somewhat close to getting most of the achievements in CS:GO.
Only have like 30 to go. Got most of them because I use the bot modes to learn maps and practice my fundamentals. But so I play the bots so often I slowly racket up a lot of the achievements. Including many of the rare ones.
Maybe my next day off I will grind the two rifle achievements I haven't got yet, then focus hard on getting grenade kills so I can get the super rare all weapons mastery achievement. Only like 2% of players have.

I think the grenades ones will be the hardest since even a direct hit only does 80 damage to someone with armor. No clue how I am going to get a 3way multi kill with one other then a total fluke.

Why the flying fuck would I ever do such a thing?
The whole point is to play the game more not less.
It's fun earning stuff that makes you work for it. Plus it it pushes you to play the game in ways you haven't before. Like I neglected the AK because I was never a fan of it's recoil pattern and how finicky it is about how movement effects first shot accuracy. But in going for the achievement I am pushed to master it.
What is even the point of a achievement you didn't earn?
