>>53414 I would have loved that game to death if the titan part of titanfall didn't exist. I know there is pilot vs pilot mode, but its fucking dead, wait for an entire hour and never get into a match. Imagine going from the most kick ass movement system ever put into an fps running on walls sliding grappling all at mach 5 to… slow clunky fat fuck mech combat. What a disaster that was, and for some reason its all titafall players want to do, spam mech fights 24/7.
>>53421 >Even Doom 3 is good if you want to feel scared Maybe if your idea of scary is bumbling around in the dark not being able to tell where the fuck you or anything else is.
I spent way too much time in that game being lost or backtracking even with a map because I couldn't properly see where I was going and everything looks the same in that one.
It is a game that I think everyone should at least play through once even if they aren't into video games. It's so fundamental and foundational that it is a must play. Plus it actually is quite fun when you get into it.
>>53295 This saga is a masterpiece. The games are bit old, but I believe they have aged well. I think there are mods to make them look like a modern game. The dialogues are the best part of these games, they still give me chills.
>>53514 I've seen these games praised for the story a lot but I still have no idea what the actual gameplay is like. I think it's some kind of isometric arpg?
>>53515 Blood Omen game is kinda like 2d Zelda, but very dark and gritty, it's my favorite. Soul Reaver 1/2 are 3d platformers/action games with some simple puzzles and a normal/spectral world mechanic (you change planes and stuff you can do as a spectre you can't do in the normal world, like going through certain walls). Defiance kept some of the platforming from previous games but it's more combat oriented, it has different skills and combos, kinda like a Devil May Cry game, it's the first game in the series in which you control both Kain and Raziel (Kain is the dude from blood omen, Raziel that edgy looking fellow from Soul Reaver) Then there's blood omen 2 which I never played but I've heard it's pretty bad. All of them are decent but none excel in their own genre (gameplay-wise), there are better platformers than Soul Reaver, better hack n slash games than Defiance. If you're planning on playing them be warned, the main focus of these games IS the plot (at least in latter games) and they're full of cutscenes, in the case of Soul Reaver 2, unskippable. Also there was a sequel planned but it was cancelled.
>>53761 In the Age of Nintendo… the gaming world was unformed… shrouded by monopoly. A land of gray consoles, Power Gloves, and Everlasting Mario Bros.
But then there was Sega… and with Sega came disparity. 8- and 16-bit… cartridge and CD… and of course… NES and Genesis.
Then, from the Genesis, They came, and found the Fads of the Nineties within the market gap.
Sonic, the First of the Hedgehogs. Miles "Tails" Prower, and his co-op AI scripting. Dr. Robotnik, and his faithful Badniks. And Knuckles the Echidna, so easily forgotten…
With the strength of Blast Processing, they challenged the Mario Bros. Robotnik's mighty Badniks peeled apart their Goombas. Tails weaved great mechanical inventions. Sonic unleashed a miasma of hip and radical. And Luigi the Gloryless betrayed his own, and Nintendo's monopoly was no more.
Thus began the Age of Sonic. But soon the fandom will fade, and only retsupurae will remain. Even now there is only nostalgia, and fans see not games, but only endless disappointments. And amongst the holdouts are seen… players of the accursed Sonic Boom…
>>53762 Anyone finds the most beloved Sonic games very overrated? Not meaning that as a troll, and not taking into account what the franchise has become and its fanbase…
>>53766 I used to be this way, but now I've grown to appreciate them. Check out tails gets trolled and cybershell, the creativity of sonic fans makes the games fun and enjoyable. It's just cool to learn the lore and strange details and the first 3 sonic games and mania are infinitely more enjoyable than any revered mario game when you learn to roll. They might be objectively bad, but the playful spirit of sega makes them good.
>>53761 I hate how cluncky and sluggish those games are and don't see how they are tolerable. Massive imput delays and visuals not matching what is going on, and so many other things that make them the worst hack and slash games I have ever seen. I truly don't see the appeal.
Pokemon Yellow System Shock 2 Fallout Dark Souls Diablo 2 Resident Evil Legend of Zelda Majora's Mask Quake Silent Hills Baldur's Gate II Age of Empires 2 SimCity 2000 Myst Minecraft Medieval Total War X-Com Apocalypse Ghosts 'n Goblins Thief The Dark Project Arkanoid Castlevania Symphony of the Night Super Mario World
>>53772 You tell me, I never wasted a single second reading anything from game journalists. If their lists look like mine though, maybe game journalism is not such a retarded thing as I've assumed all this years, kinda nice to know honestly. >so you can absorb in all the hype, news, discussions around it I prefer to form my own opinion through playing it myself without reading any garbage morons are writing about it online or elsewhere. I have a very low opinion of everyone and what they think so I would disregard it anyway, but to each its own.
>>53771 95% of gameplay looks like a hack in slash where everything is in slow motion and covered in oil. Not in a good way ether. What would you call it, a action adventure game with shit combat? A action rpg with shit action and even worse rpg elements?
>>53773 by game journalism i meant these are all top 10 list games that everyone always recommends anyway >I prefer to form my own opinion through playing it myself without reading any garbage morons are writing about it online or elsewhere. I have a very low opinion of everyone and what they think so I would disregard it anyway, but to each its own saying a highly rated game is a must play isn't your own opinion though, it's already been decided by the masses also you completely missed the point, it's not to get others opinions of the game it's to discuss the game with others as you're playing it
>>53527 Three lanes isn't bad when its pilot vs pilot, but the fucking mechs basically take up an entire lane by themselves and then its *boop oneshot* as soon as you come into their aoe instakill zone.
>>54154 I completely dropped it after like fifty hours and have no intention of getting back into it just yet, too repetitive and the novelty completely wore off. I'm at a point in the main story where I have to scout some camp for Radzig, but I feel that I have burnt myself out after fucking around the open world and doing mostly side quests. Had a lot of fun anyway but I'll just add it to the pile of drawn-out open world games that I got sick of and shelved for good.
Grim Fandango Spec Ops: The Line Far Cry 3 Dark Souls Silent Hill 1 and 2 Hotline Miami Deus Ex Fallout 1 and New Vegas Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee Planescape Torment Lisa the Painful Sanitariumn Disco Elysium S.T.A.L.K.E.R Shadow of Chernobyl The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Mafia Postal 2 Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines GTA Vice City and San Andreas Warcraft 3 Mount and Blade: Warband Darkwood Cruelty Squad Post Void Portal Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver Bioshock Final Fantasy IX F.E.A.R
>>54227 the set pieces and art direction were surprisingly decent, I mean, a lot of people shit on that game from a gameplay perspective but it's not worse than overrated shooters of that era like uncharted or tomb raider the narrative and the writing in general were too much on the nose but it's got its moments not a game for everyone certainly, not sure i'd recommend it tbh
>>54340 >Best Capcom fighter has SNK in it. Speaks volumes. Yup, tried formula gets perfected eventually and then there is nothing to improve.
Capcom vs. SNK is thru-and-thru Capcom fighter, just with SNK charachters thrown in; even the selection between Capcom and SNK gauge systems is pretty superficial.
Not much happened after FF2 on SNK fighters either and the best KoF (99) was released at the same time as Capcom vs. SNK.
Sega perfected Virtua Fighter at 2, sequels and clones (Namcot Tekken before 3) were either worse or at most equal. Tekken 3 then introduced sidestep and couple other mechanics to straightforward VF-clone that was Tekken 2 and thus became a different game altogether (and not my cup of tea).
I think people should have a broad introduction to various types of games if they want to get into it, so I'm going to suggest a few for each genre.
RTS - Starcraft 2. Broodwar if you want hardmode Stealth - MGS3. Don't play it for the stealth though. Play it for the experience. open RPG - Dark souls. Start with any of them. "JRPG" - Undertale. Mother 3 if you want the OG experience. multiplayer FPS - CSGO single player FPS - bioshock Puzzle - Portal 1 Fighting - super smash bros melee. ultimate is also another choice if you don't have a GC solo sandbox - minecraft multiplayer sandbox - garrys mod. nothing has ever beaten raping and killing people outside spawn with some friends, then raping the admin and getting banned.
Also, what's with the titanfall 2 shilling going on here? The game is basically CoD with even more variance due to the movement system and shitty OP mechs.
>>53772 agree with it being a journalist top games list, but i don't think you need to buy at release to truly know how good a game is. in my experience the appeal of a good game wont age. broodwar, melee and deus ex are still great games
