 No.63265

There are certain objects that I like to collect images of just because I love how they look. I think these are things that just look oddly beautiful in a way. I'm not sure if 'beautiful' is the right word. They just seem really pleasant, I guess. If you don't mind, I wanted to share some of these, and like to hear others aesthetic sensibilities in physical objects.

This is an Olivetti Summa 15. It's an old mechanical calculator. I find it interesting because it's a cast metal piece, but the edges are rounded. The function knob is on a piece that's embossed. It's got that beige/tan look of a retro PC, but before retro PCs existed.

These Zenith radio sets. The wood facing, and the matching tone face plate for the dial. I like some of the floor ones with the vacuum tubes that when you turn it on there's this pleasant, warm glow. Give this sense of coziness while listening to smooth jazz on the radio.

The Kettenkrad. You know how if you take something normal, but you make a "mini"/"tiny" version of it, then it's usually comes off as "cute"? E.g., Cat -> Kitten.

Well, the Kettenkrad is a kitten tank. I think that's its major appeal for me here.

In general, I love items made of brass, but the simple round brass door knob I feel always gives a bit of class. When it comes to door knobs, I don't know if I prefer brass or bronze, actually.

I think this falls under the 'made of brass' category: the pocket barometer. But it's also because I've found barometers far more useful (maybe where I live?) in determining whether I need an umbrella or not. I've always wanted one. I mean, I can look up the pressure, but I don't know, something about it seems so regal.

I like the amount that the diamond shapes jut from the face plate of a Philip's planisphere. Something about the diamonds on the side I really like. Also, the deep blue v. bronze brown color scheme on most Philip's planispheres is another thing I rather like.

did you by chance find out about the kettenkrad from succubi last tour?

 No.63278

Of course, like everyone else.

i like female underwear, bikini, lingerie, etc. the intersecting lines, straps, fabrics, patterns, etc. the way it digs into flesh slightly and how the opacity of sheer fabrics becomes something like black cel-shading at the edges when it disappears wrapping around the body. you can model the body topologically as a sphere and the straps of lingerie as bisections of it. you have either loops wrapping around a body part, or strips going between the loops, sometimes the area between loops is completely filled, like in the case of panties, that is just three loops. ive always thought this even since i was a little kid, it is just so interesting visually. i love succubus's underwear. im not a tranny or crossdresser and i dont own any, it's just an odd fixation

I used to have these Swiss army mitts that were really nice that were of a similar style to picrel. They were fingerless gloves with an additional attachable mitt cover. So that way you could switch between dexterity or warming your fingers back up as you needed.

I like PC cases and accessories.

I don't like halftracks. I prefer tankettes and sidecars.

 No.63448

>>63444
Excellent. tankettes and armored cars are the absolute best kind of anti-infantry platform to spam in points based ww2 wargames. I would regularly rout and then overrun infantry platoons using APC's and other thinly armored MG based weapons systems. unsupported WW2 infantry cannot compete with light armor if the engagement is at range

Iirc, the kettenkrad's front wheel is optional, and it often was driven as a fully treaded vehicle.

You should study industrial design. Maybe you are good at it.

I always liked the shapes and designs of medical devices and machinery, photocopiers and certain gaming consoles, like the dreamcast or playstation one

 No.63485

>>63484

Also, all these things ive mentioned share certain similarities in their shapes. If someone knows how this style of design is called please tell me.

Man, the Dreamcast is a good one. I love how that thing looks. I know people always made fun of how bulky the controller was, but it always reminded me of a Manta Ray, and I love manta rays. And the triangle+circle of the lid was always nice IMO as well.

I know nothing about industrial design or even any books or how you would even begin to study it. What's the starting textbook for that?

Here in my country (Argentina) industrial design is a university major/career. They study about product developement, design, and production.

I didnt study or know anything about it, at least that it is pretty interesting, and if i had time i would do it. Here is a list with some books for beginners (yes i just googled and found em on reddit, but what gives)

Thinking Objects: Contemporary approaches to product design / Tim Parsons

The making of Design: from the first model to the final product / Gerrit Terstiege

Design for the Real World / Victor Papanek

Design, Creativity and Culture: an orientation to Design / Maurice Barnwell

Manufacturing Processes for Design Professionals / Rob Thompson

How to See: a guide to reading our man-made environment / George Nelson

The Good Life / Scott and Helen Nearing

That controller was awful.
