I'm still undecided about how I feel about the Nijigasaki generation. This latest release looks promising though. I worry that the characters might be poorly written despite the musical content being decent.

I think we can all agree that the Aquarium release was one of the best things to come out of the Aqours generation. The rich theme, the song itself, the outfits and colours…
Of course who could forget the Happy Party Train release. Although I'm not a fan of Kanan's singing voice, the melody is nice. The lyrics and video are sweet and cute. I like the theme and the dance choreography.

The aqours duet/trio winter vacation album was released recently. I really liked the summer vacation album, so I was looking forward to this. So far from listening to it, it sounds pretty great! The lyrics for all the songs are super cute too.
The KananMari duet is surprisingly good. They complement each other well. I wish the Love Live franchise did more duet songs.

ChikaRiko is Sunshine. The story of Sunshine is the story of an average small town succubus who wants to shine like µ's, a talented Otonokizaka transfer student who needed some inspiration, and the ragtag group of friends they create an idol group with. It was like this from the very first single, from the very first magazine scans. Their relationship is the rock on which Aqours was built in every version of Sunshine's canon. To deny ChikaRiko is to deny Love Live Sunshine.

They did! The entire season was actually really great at this, with each character having a dedicated episode to explore their major personality traits and issues. That all sounds terrific to me! I think I like the idea of focusing on solo lives more. Character-driven storytelling is something I welcome as well.

I think I'm just comparing them to muse and remembering how muse had an emotional tear-filled final live concert. I kind of expected the same thing for Aqours, but it's not really possible with corona, so who knows. In any case, I definitely want to rewatch the Sunshine anime again before moving on to Niji.
I hope that Aqours continues to put out music at least.

Aqours never caught on with me like Muse did, but I would love that as well. The solo concerts albums coming out lately though are concerning. It's new territory and I can't but help feel like it's their final swan song(s).

Good point. If Niji doesn't perform as expected then Kadokawa/sunrise would almost certainly keep Aqours around to keep their bankbooks nice and tidy if nothing else.
They should graduate though. They've had a solid run, and new talent will never fully bloom with past greats looming over them and stealing sales figures. As LL becomes increasingly more prominent, I'm beginning to think it'll be important to solidify their niche in the multi-faceted competition against other juggernauts like IM@S, Tokyo 7th, upstarts IDOLY PRIDE, Re;stage, etc etc by firmly dedicating themselves as hyperfocusing on a singular core group that everything revolves around. Rather than the shotgun method of others who vomit 9999999999999 idols at you, this has and will allow them to establish better connection with fans. Aqours being a fifty year run stands in direct opposition to that and should go. Also I will be ripshit mad if my oshi in Niji don't get to shine properly because Aqours won't get off the fucking stage.

Yes, so far i'm enjoying all three episodes. Kanon is a breath of fresh air for an orange haired leader, her genkiness and emo somehow fits her very well. Keke for now is just another cute raibu, but her chemistry with Kanon is very enjoyable and fun to watch. Same with Chisato and i'm glad for that since i really don't want another weird childhood friend like her predecessor.
Musics are OK or good enough except the ED and Tiny star which is great. Background art is stellar, since everything feels more alive if you compare it to the rest of the series.
