I like harem anime because when I self insert into the MC it makes me feel loved. Romance too but they often has too much drama.

In the defense of Love Hina despite it being categorized as a harem it hardly does feel like that seeing as there isn't much push and pull from other characters and a high focus on the mysterious main interest.

It was actually kind of wholesome. Picrel is like a totally different world, they were not all fawning over the MC in LH like that

I like harem anime because it combines gag comedy, titillation, and in most also action.
The bad stuff is basically junk food and every once in awhile I am pleasantly surprised by the anime equivalent of a gourmet meal served in a fast food box.
It's dumb fun and the premise of many are pretty put there, leading to all kinds of hijinx.
It also helps that I don't self insert as the MC.
Only time I get mad about a MC being dumb is when he is written to consistently buzzkill the hijinks.
It's best when his particular brand of stupid leads to more over the top situations that are even more entertaining then if he was totally sensible.
