what do you think about artificial wombs? it might actually become reality. https://archive.is/9uclp also it may be possible to create eggs from male cells https://archive.is/tdd63 >Krisiloff also had a specific interest in the artificial-egg technology. He’s gay, and he knew that theoretically, a cell from a man could be turned into an egg. If that were ever possible, two men could have a child that was genetically related to both. “I was interested in the idea of ‘When can same-sex couples have children together?’” says Krisiloff. “I thought that this was the promising technology for doing this.” >Today the company Krisiloff started, called Conception, is the largest commercial venture pursuing what’s called in vitro gametogenesis, which refers to turning adult cells into gametes—sperm or egg cells. It employs around 16 scientists and has raised $20 million from well-known tech figures including…
>>188007 what's wrong with wanting someone to pass on your genes, worldly wealth, knowledge, passions and dreams to, someone who would remember you after you die and carry on a part of you?
>>188010 That's probably the reasoning our parents had when they birthed us without our consent and trapped us in this material hell-prison called the universe. You know, on a lark. For fun. For profit. Because they were selfish self-obsessed cunts. >die and carry on a part of you >your genes >your worldy wealth >YOUR knowledge, passions and dreams
Why don't you just make a homonculus or an android if you are so concerned with having your will carried out? If you so desire to see your essence writ large across the universe, like a giant cum stain?
>>188014 Wait, you're serious? I thought you were being sarcastic.
Now, I'm not an antinatalist, though I know the malevolent reason behind the material world's existence, because I think there are things so beautiful that they can justify all the horrors of existence. But there's absolutely nothing selfless about having kids, especially not biologically speaking. The whole point of biology is to be one of the winners who reproduce, ergo, it's literally the most selfish thing to do biologically speaking. There's nothing selfless about wanting the things in >>188010.
Forget about selfishness and selflessness, they are dumb memes. Only a normalfag could say something like that. In fact, I'm still like 90% sure you're being sarcastic to bait an idiot like me.
>>188016 >>188017 Did you guys fall asleep in biology class? That's not how reproduction works. You guys are thinking of the refuted Lamarckian theory of evolution. You pass down your genes not acquired traits. I mean, I guess if they are pros and have genes that make them build more muscle much more easily then that would be helpful, but that baby would still have to train and use anabolics to look like a pro bodybuilder.
>>188021 steroids and training can't change shit genetics. you pick the most aesthetic bodybuilders and fuse them and then we can create space marines. if you don't understand what i'm talking about i'm sorry i can't explain, it's too advanced for you maybe
>>188021 I was shown repeat viewings of Akira and Dragonball Z in biology class; I paid more attention than most and got top marks. What the other wiz said is right, you need to up your reading comprehension
>>188019 >The whole point of biology is to be one of the winners who reproduce, ergo, it's literally the most selfish thing to do biologically speaking. how so, it's not about winning but about survival, humans may have notions about their children caring for them at their old age and so on, but other mammals expect absolutely nothing in return, going on separate ways once their young can fend for themselves.
>>188010 >genes, worldly wealth, knowledge, passions and dreams The only thing out of these my parents had were genes and it's trash. Do you even have anything good to pass on?
In most of the west I think such technologies will have a barrage of roadblocks put in their path, and if permitted at all will probably be limited to lgbtbbq+ people or those with fertility issues (and ofc will be on waiting lists for years). Where it will really shine may be in the east where governments seem to be more concerned with demographic issues and less with ethics. Oligarchs like musk may fund such technologies too.
Regardless of how it is utilized it will have a lasting effect socially, but will unlikely lead to an increase in birthrates or anything like that imo. As I'm sure most of us have been around long enough to have seen ideas like killing off females and replacing them with artificial wombs and eggs? Well, such discussions may very well be brought up if such technology becomes widely feasible.
i wonder if in the future people will ask questions about each other's conceptions. kind of like how succubi ask what each other's horoscopes are >oh yeah i was X baby >natural baby - their parents fucked like normal >fashion baby - their parents picked out genes from some celebrity >designed baby - their parents did a character creator type thing >health baby - prioritizing healthy genes, longevity stuff, good immunity, etc above all else
>>188046 Very utopic, thousands of years to get to something like that, not only to get to the technology, also to the kind of society where this would happen
While interesting it has strong potential to be abused and restricted for purely political reasons. It will also be absurdly expensive and even if the tech lowers price it will be kept artificially expensive for class and political reasons.
For example I fully expect feminist to spearhead restricting access of it to men, especially single men, due to feminist being obsessed with having absolute control over reproduction and power over life and death.
Then you have the genetic apartheid problem. Ruling elite declaring themselves arbitrarily the best and using artificial wombs to imitate the royalty of old with a high tech version of inbreeding to gate off social and economic mobility based on lineage.
Just dreams. At most they'd farm eggs from poor but fertile ppl, maybe make poors into drooling vegetables who just function to pop out babies. Pregnancy is too complicated to artificially replicated + get healthy results. Rich already have artificial wombs with ivf (combine their egg and sperm) + surrogacy (put it into the paid poors womb to raise).
>>188342 > A child deserves to be raised by a mother and father are married and love each other Most people born out of vaginas are not even afforded this luxury.
>>188342 It's an artificial womb, not an artificial gamete factory. Who do you think provides the seed and ovum, exactly? >>188208 Is it really that complicated? Seems like a matter of just replicating the temperature, right nutrients, and whatever. But I guess you also need to make sure the child gets antibodies etc.
Anyone seen the movie Gattaca? I think we are 100% headed for that future. Gene editing will create a race of ubermensch and those who can't afford it will be treated as second class citizens. I don't see artificial wombs as really changing much though.
>>188400 this is probably the 4th or 5th reference of that movie i can remember over the years. i finally added it to my backlog after >>188048 mentioned it. i need to just download it some weekend
==FUCK== the admins of this site by the way, unbelievable that I can't upload images at all just because of using a VPN. Makes me regret contributing at all, but i have already written the post
>>188408 >Makes me regret contributing at all LOL. If wizards are people you regret talking to because of some anti-spam measure that you're too much of a newfag to know about, then we're better off without you.
>>188409 I have been a user since wizardchan but I don't post regularly since the site is very repetitive. I hoped the IP address stuff was a temporary anti-spam measure but I see the admins really are making the site a honeypot now
>>188408 >Perhaps people/brains will be grown in artificial wombs and used for computation like the pods in The Matrix More likely is a neuron culture suspended between plates. Artificial neural networks already exist, but I don't know if anyone has used biological neurons to perform computation yet.
>>188414 >but I don't know if anyone has used biological neurons to perform computation yet. I believe expermentally someone uses brain bits pulled from a mouse and wired it up to turn it into a simple calculator as a proof of concept but that is as far as that stuff has gone to my very limited knowledge on the subject.
>>188002 https://youtu.be/pxJxq1gXV2w Here's what's coming anons, the trans movement is actually in phase 1 eventually there will be human beings that will a-sexually reproduce and see themselves as superior. These people will claim to be Gods over the material realm, they will build things like the great pyramid again and then it will all be destroyed
>>188599 I think freemasons are trying to recreate humans in the image of Baphomet, the deity they worship, depicted with dick, tits, one male arm and one female arm.
>>188610 Freemasons don't worship Baphomet and have no such goals of relating to shaping humans physical form.
Their ideas and goals are shaped be enlightenment philosophers and are mostly related to being better people mentally and morally through the free examination of ideas and discussion about said ideas without worrying about someone taking something said out of context in private and using it to attack their reputation.
Even way back in the day you still had to worry about being "cancelled". So dudes got together in a mens club to discuss edgy shit in private. Stuff like wondering out loud if the colonies really needed the Crown's rule over them since they were already functionally independent. Or if going to church was needed to be a good person.
Now days it's mostly used by old moneyed people to organize philanthropy, smoke cigars, and wear funny hats while being away from succubi folk. They are actually pretty wizardly in some regards, such as their long tradition of keeping succubi out.
>>188615 I wish my grandpa told me what Freemasons were like but I hardly spoke a word to him. I’ve heard they do harsh hazing and film each other doing gay shit to keep as blackmail lest someone threaten the organization. But that’s probably just bullshit slander.
>>188047 your sense of scale is way off. 1000s of years? Technologically we are already there. Designer babies are real, they exist. It is more ethical barriers than technological ones that prevent us from advancing the science. Making it mainstream will take some time but you're kidding or retarded if you think it's 1000s of years. There's no way something that is both possible with current day technology and beneficial to humanity would take such an unwarranted amount of time to catch on. Give it a few centuries
>>188384 >Is it really that complicated? Seems like a matter of just replicating the temperature, right nutrients, and whatever. But I guess you also need to make sure the child gets antibodies etc. If it was so easy they'd have done it already to make an obediant slave general population. Playing God isn't easy. >>188599 Succubi already can do this with some lab interference. There was some jap scientists who made a mouse from combining 2 eggs and it was healthy. There's also egg + stem cell from anothers spine.
>>188384 >right nutrients The thing is, many of the vital nutrients needed are produced in the various organs of the mother, even as high up as the brain. To properly replicate a womb we'd need to first replicate all of the other components of a mother's body.
I see no inherent purpose in reproduction. It's done to create more people, but quantity of people isn't necessarily a good thing, it's just neutral. That said, people being able to be produced without vile acts like sex isn't a bad thing. >>188008 No one. He's underage 4chan diaspora, like everyone who uses that straw man greentext template. They're making a very deliberate effort to run the quality of discourse here into the ground.
