 No.37521

Hey everyone, i've recently got into a watching loop of pre-2000s anime movies. There's of course the well known Ghost in the Shell, or Akira for instance but there's plenty of them that are actually quite good. I know a lot of wiz here are into animes in general, so what would you suggest? I'm espescially looking for hidden pearls.

 No.37522

Yokohama Kaidaishi Kikou is the Wizchardchan standard I believe.

I don't think you know what a movie is or you are just copy pasting some premade list from somewhere.

I don't want to be the prick that says "no one's gonna spoonfeed you", but for real man, what else can I say?
>I'm espescially looking for hidden pearls
You quite clearly want 10/10 animes given to you on a diamond platter. Well guess what, what you've seen is what you get with that attitude. If you can't even be fucked to look on an anime directory, you don't care enough about the medium. And because of your greed, you killed a thread with an actual topic. I'm not gonna give you a movie suggestion since you can't be fucked to even include what type of movie genres you like in the OP, but I will say, look at the movies you do know of, and gather a list of all the staff that contributed to them. Then look at their portfolios. Then watch the movies you've never seen, and list off the ones you liked. Rinse and repeat.

Weird to see Ai monogatari in a list like this. Lots of OVAs mixed up with movies here

>Street Fighter II movie
The plot is thin but the animation, character designs, music & voices are gorgeous. Also the fight choroegraphy was done by an actual martial artist and has no short-cuts (eg. spamming the same move multiple times, speed-lines) that plague cheaply done fight scenes.
Up there with Rurouni Kenshin OVA & Sword Of The Stranger for best anime fight scenes.

ok so i don't know if it counts, but the film Metropolis. it's from 2001 so it's one year too old but i personally really liked it.

I hate video essays and anitube. Just watch the damn anime, why do you need to watch some shithead spoiling everything with indepth detail before watching a short series?

 No.39859

>>37527
you're completely right. myself though, i'm interested in finding some tv as well as movies from this period so their being off topic benefits me.

>>37528
that's a legitimate criticism most of the time. however, i would say that it can be a bit wearing at times grinding through websites for content. this is one of the functions of community, to make each others lives more convenient.

i'd recommend you watch "magnetic rose". its a short film, but a personal favorite of mine. its a part of the "memories" collection. i didn't enjoy the other short films in memories. the trailer i attached really doesn't do it justice, but was all i could find lol.

i'd also recommend perfect blue, which was one of my absolute favorite movies back in my early teens. sorry, my recommendations are pretty generic lol but since you literally only mentioned gits and akira in your OP i figured i might as well mention these.

Cowboy Bebop is what happens when you have creative freedom to do whatever as long as it's cool enough to make merchandise from.

I liked "Stink Bomb" better.

You seem into cyberpunk like Patlabor 2, Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade or Bubblegum Crisis

 No.41311

old stuff is generally pretty bad in my experience. Ghost in the shell was an exception.

I think this is highly overrated. They couldn't decide if they wanted to make it episodic or serialized and the hybrid format sucks. The main story itself is just quite boring and undeveloped. There are a few good episodes but taken as a whole it is mediocre.

You should probably kill yourself.
