Anime recommendations

I'm looking for a new animu to watch, I've listed some of the stuff I highly rated, maybe there will be something others may be interested in listed below, but I would greatly appreciate any recommendations based on what you think I might love.

Animus: Serial Experiments Lain, Akagi, Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo, Psychiatrist Irabu, FMA:brotherhood, neongenesisevangerion, steins gate (prob gonna watch steins gate: zero if nothing seems better), Gilgamesh, Death Note, Ping Pong the animation, Baccano! , NHK…

Those are the best I can think of at the moment.

This is my favorite anime of all time, it resonates with NEET lifestyle and struggles.

Tokyo = best city ever

Safe to walk around
Nice scenic walks
Housing actually affordable and not NYC tier jewed up
Clean and comfy

Too bad western and azn normies are flooding the city now.

I'd love to move there if I could.

Any anime that anyone thinks is just better off/works better as a manga?

Haven't read Nichijou but watched the first episode, I could already tell that the jokes might have had a better effect reading them, not watching.
Despite AzuDai's charm, I feel the same with some of its jokes, too.
Lucky Star is also up there.

Is this the slice-of-life curse?

This one scene is one of the biggest plebfilters in all of anime. Unless you have great patience or can understand the context and humor of the situation, most people will turn it off around here.

Reccomend me some good animes

Unfortunately, I've lost all interest in anime, even the ones i used to like, due to the ammount of normalfags watching it and how cringe they are. Please reccomend me some good animes (especially mecha, slice of life or isekai) that are out of the reach of normalfags
R: 10 / I: 5

Anime scenes

Share scenes from anime you like, found interesting, or that caught your attention.
You can also explain what you like or found interesting about it.

I'll begin, in this one scene, which is from an anime for kids, you can be misled into thinking that these two had sex. It gives that impression, which makes a scene that should be sad and romantic, a hilarious one.

Anime Recommendation Thread

Tell us your anime likes and dislikes or some sort of information about what you're looking for, or just examples of past shows you've enjoyed, and hopefully someone will recommend you a good show to watch.

>plot driven
>interesting fantasy or sci-fi worlds
>interesting social commentary or philosophical stuff
>hero archetypes
>good character arcs
>political intrigue
>fights where strategy is involved rather than just powering up with beams or determinationing your way through it

>romance (esp. pedo shit)
>boring slice of life shit where nothing outside the realm of normality happens (cute succubi doing cute things)
>high school setting and children mcs in general (not always I've just seen a lot of them and it's getting old especially as I myself am getting older)
>slow paced
>fan service that takes away from the plot and wastes time
>comedic relief/gags (situational comedy is fine but the japanese tend to do this annoying shit where they put on wonky music and people yell at each other and they call it comedy)
>style over substance (eg, lain, technolyze, FLCL)
>lol so randumb shit

Specifically at the moment I'm looking for anime dealing with world domination or military/political conquest. I've enjoyed pretty much every one I've watched with that theme eg Code Geass, TTGL, No Game No Life, LOGH, Berserk, Magi, etc. I'm open to other suggestions as well though.

I don't need it to include all of my likes or avoid all my dislikes, just not be too excessive. I'm pretty indifferent to bad CGI/animation as long as the substance is good. Thank you in advance for any suggestions you might give me.

Love Live

The new Love Live music video is CUTE CUTE CUTE !!!!!! The song sounds pretty good too.

I'm still undecided about how I feel about the Nijigasaki generation. This latest release looks promising though. I worry that the characters might be poorly written despite the musical content being decent.

The future direction of the franchise seems unclear at this point. I'm hoping that we'll get at least one more anime season for Aqours. It looks like they're starting to release solo music albums for each Aqours member. Hopefully Corona doesn't seriously affect the financial viability of the franchise.

A new generation has been announced recently ("Love Live Superstar"). At this point that generation is a total wild card. I'm cautiously optimistic about the smaller size of the group though (5 members). Larger group sizes mean that some members can be kind of neglected; this is particularly true in the animated content. So a smaller group might have better character development. It'll probably also diminish any scheduling problems with the various seiyuus. On the other hand though, if one character is a bad singer then it will have a stronger effect on the overall quality of the vocals. So hopefully they will all be good vocalists.

Anyway, let's have a thread about MY FAVOURITE FRANCHISE OF ALL TIME. Yay!

No spoilers ITT plz. Let's discuss how much we love Love Live and how we feel about the future of the franchise. Let's post musical content and art, and talk about our favourite characters and ships! Who is the best singer and what are your favourite songs? Will the soul of the franchise and fanbase be preserved as these new generations are introduced?

Most disappointing anime

What was the most disappointing anime you have ever watched? For me personally, it was Sailor Moon Crystal. I'm a big Sailor Moon fan and I was pumped for the new series to come out, even though it kept getting delayed I didn't care, I just wanted to feel the magic I felt watching the series for the first time again. But when the show aired in the summer of 2014 i was met with a show with extremely sloppy animation, poor writing and really just an underwhelming vibe to it. It was just such a gut punch to see my favorite show get treated with such a mishandled and mediocre retelling.
R: 100 / I: 18

Okay, I just finished the the series.
and I have to ask - is this a joke? Like a big decades long meme? I think this was the worst anime I've ever seen. A pseudo-philosophical LARP. Like does it actually have a point? A meaning? Beause I think I just witnessed someone's acid trip.

Unironically is the worldwide fame a LARP? Or is it like with the emperor's new clothes, where nobody mentions that he's actually naked?

What the acual fuck? Either I'm a brainlet retard or I'm the only sane person on earth - but what the fuck did I just watch?

It reminds me of those old french psychological art films… What a fucking waste of time…

why does anime have to be so fucking long? i cannot be fucked to watch an anime more than 24 episodes. I (unintentionally) dropped Duel Monsters, Slayers, Rurouni Kenshin, Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, and some other shit because I cannot be fucked to watch that many episodes.

I don't even LIKE anime that much, even when though I have a MAL from 2012 which is older than 90% of the people on the internet who claim to like anime.
R: 25 / I: 4

I despise this series.

Don't give me the "IT MAKES A TURNAROUND IN CHAPTER 132498579182, AND IT'LL ALL BE WORTH IT." Even with the turnaround, all it becomes is the epitome of "Jus b urself :^)" logic. Without the turnaround it's just embarrassment, and I have enough of that thinking about myself.

This is a series made by normies to laugh at wizards.
R: 47 / I: 10
Is anyone else exceedingly bothered by the fact that they forget anime they've seen? It's like losing an important part of yourself. All these worlds and characters, even if they're fictional, feel dear to me, yet I forget what happened to them and sometimes their existence as a whole. Of course, you can re-watch anime (I'm on a spree of doing that right now), but it still upsets me.

It's as if these shows are disposable information to fill my time with, and can subsequently be discarded once I've "consumed" them. I despise my brain for failing to even roughly recollect the events of an episode I saw a month ago, yet recalling that time a random kid in elementary school made a sarcastic comment about my cellphone on the landing of the northeast stairwell, between the third and second floor. Do I have a normalshit brain that marks memories pertaining to fictional stories as unimportant and consequently, readily deletes them? How can I remember the series I've seen better? As autistic as it sounds, I've resorted to taking notes on anime and reviewing them at irregular intervals, but even that ends up in me only remembering the general plot of the show, with the finer details as well as recollections of the sounds and visuals falling through the cracks.
R: 21 / I: 9
Have you ever gotten into an anime or manga just because of one specific character or characters? Did you stick around long enough to see through it, or did you drop it once you grew bored?

Manga thread

My brain is too fucked to pull two intelligible sentences together, so pardon me if I don't make any sense.

As there are just too many manga, it is a huge pain to dig into this pile to find good ones to read. So why don't we share each other great manga, and good mangaka.

I'd recommend Fumetsu no Anata e (To You, the Immortal), pic related.

Story of some sort of immortal being of the shape of a sphere, has the ability to imitate object and being in his surrounding. It bit by bit, start to experience the world, pain, hardship, death, not having any idea of anything of who it is, and slowly develop of conscience. It's set in a fantasy world, where the clothing and customs are loosely inspired by early Japan, and maybe the Ainu.

Beautiful and detailed artstyle, incidentally the author of this manga is Ooima Yoshitoki which can explain why it reminds me of Koe no Katachi (same author after all).

Obscure anime part 2

Many people were disagreeing with a lot of the anime that were in the iceberg meme and I have to agree too. I didn’t make the image, I only found it somewhere and I wish someone or some people can make better, more accurate images of the obscure anime iceberg meme. It doesn’t have to be an iceberg, another cool way of making it would be the depth of the ocean with the Mariana’s Trench being the deepest part of the ocean. I just really wish someone could make a more accurate meme/image for obscure anime list cuz I feel the current one is very inaccurate

Why is this considered "anime" ?

Why is Tower of God considered an anime when it is adapted from a manhwa? If it is solely because a Japanese studio did it then why isn't the same logic applied to Cannon Busters? So basically anyone with money can just pay a studio to adapt their source material and it will be "anime"? Seems like a bad precedent we are setting. How does Japan feel about this?

shounen anime

Does anyone still watch them? One of the biggest reasons I haven't touched a shounen anime in like, 12 years is how there's always someone talking passionately about his freaking boku no seigi….

that grew to become extremely cringy

I can't imagine where the hell japan got that from or why they decided to make it a trope. I'm still not even totally sure what it's supposed to mean.

revengful characters in anime

Hey. What character I like from anime?
I like Scar from FMA and FMA B. Why? Because he was mysterious and his country was treated poorly when there was a war.
But after war was over he came after alchemists, because he wanted revenge so much.

That impressed me.

Are there any character who wanted revenge in anime? Give me examples of them.

New to anime

I've never been into anime and I don't know much about it. However, I decided to check out One Punch Man and I'm enjoying it a fair bit. I've never been able to stick to hobbies or find any passion or purpose in life. Is anime a worthwhile thing to get into? I'm beginning to see why so many people love it. The problem is, it just seems so dense. So much to learn, so many forums, so many niches. It's a little intimidating for a newcomer. Where do I begin? Should I learn Japanese? I've never been able to actually succeed at something like that, but maybe getting into anime would give me a reason too. Will anime improve my life and make me a better person? Will it make the bad things in life, like wageslaving and disease, more bearable?

I await your responses. Thank you, wizards.

Neon Genesis Evangelion

I'm kind of surprised this isn't already in the catalog. So, uh, let's talk about Evangelion?

The first time I saw it was actually on an online stream organized on…either here or back when wizardchan was still up. In retrospect, I don't know HOW I managed to watch the anime I did and not run across NGE. It's like never hearing about Star Wars, but that's how it was. In any case, I thought it was a sort of Plan Nine kind of thing, because I came into the stream midway through the series, and particularly after seeing Episode 25 and 26. It felt like the narration at the beginning of Plan Nine. I also wasn't too phased by the apocalypse because…isn't that how all anime end? So many JRPGs and anime have to have some sort of over-the-top climatic ending that I sort of just shrugged it off.

Afterwards, I thought that others would have funny stuff to say about it, but then realized that…this was something pretty serious to a lot of people. It sort of annoyed me because it came off as horribly pretentious to me. Since then, a few years have passed and I've forgotten about it. But then recently it nagged on me, and I saw it again. It struck a chord with me. I hate to say that because I don't want to give an inch to all the pretentious reviews I read. Why it has done so NOW I wish I knew why, and for some reason that really disturbs me.

I think the best review I've seen on NGE is a single sentence long, "You like NGE in inverse proportion to the amount you like yourself."

It's disgusting.

what are the thoughts of wizs about kurenai?
truth to be told i only stayed because of the piano BG at first but before i could even realize it i got engaged by the characters and the slice of life atmosphere.
i mean theyre not ,like , extra deep complex characters strugiling in some sort of cyberpunk world, u can call em even stereotypes whose personalities hold no value at all and that wont be too much of a mistake but the animation is so full of energy and when the characters starts talking all at the same time makes it makes it feel more vivid, so u come to forget they are normfags whatsover.

maybe its just that the idea of kids getting hit in the head when they do something wrong and a bunch of people speaking ath the same time in a small room sounds appealing to me
but what does wiz thinks about simple shows like these?

ITT: Mecha Anime that you Really Liked

This one here's Aldnoah.Zero. While many might argue that it's not really good, I actually managed to understand the anime on a deeper level. It has a lot of metaphors and says something a lot about Earth and the people living there. The main problem is that the characters are not so written well and being an anime with only 24 episodes, it kinda got rushed when it could have been a lot better if only they made more episodes of it. So, what mecha anime do you like, fellow apprentice wizards and wizards ?

Silence is Autism now, apparently?

I really like silent, iyashikei anime/manga. Stuff like Yokohama Kadaishi Kikou or Mushishi is top tiered shit for me. Second down from that, but pretty close is easy-going sol shit. You know, the standard fair that Lucky Star kicked off, but I'd include 'fluff'-shit like Wife'n'Wife even though it can be irritating to me from time-to-time.

But, overall, my OTP are silent, stoic characters who just appreciate the world as it is without having to overindulge in sensory overload. One of the episodes of YKK (embed related, even though I couldn't find it with the original soundtrack, this still works) is the epitomy of it, and when I have a bad day, I find myself watching and rewatching that episode. In it, all she does in a single day is manages to wake up, get dressed, and make a cup of coffee. There's no other people involved, it's just this solitary study that really makes me feel like life is worth living just a little while longer.

So, I found out about Tsuki no Suppin. It's an sol that seems like it'd be more like Wife'n'Wife, so it's not my ideal, but I'll take it if I have to. But then I find one of the main characters is this silent, stoic type that appreciates life at their own pace. Given what I've told you above, I hope you might see why this series might pique my interest. And what I've seen so far I really like.

But then I made the mistake of reading comments:

>not really a big fan of Shiho character types, who seem really detached and lethargic/uninterested in everything.

>kinda hate characters who are so bland
>Shiho rocks up messy haired half asleep. Could not deal with that on a regular basis
>Shiho is so dull, being in a r/l with someone like that sounds dreadful

I can live with this. The last comment in particular just makes me emit a long, sorrowful sigh, but I can live with it. This is a preference thing, right? Well, then it starts turning into this:

>Shiho is autistic… or developmentally handicapped.

>yeah, looks like shiho is autistic or something.
>it feels like she has depression and anxiety or something.

Please. Normies. Don't take away my iyashikei genre. Please for the love of god let me at least have that. Don't put stoicism and iyashikei into yet another "You're autistic, socially undeveloped, mentally malformed for liking that" category.

Anyways, Tsuki no Suppin, sol, and iyashikei general.

I heard of Street Fighter gamers going to Japan as a path to improve their game. It would be cool to go to Japan to learn how to make ramen or forging a katana.

What skills would learn if you can make it to Japan?

What did you guys take away from this show? Did it help the way you feel about your situation, or did it cause more despair?

Yuri aesthetics

It seems that a lot of yuri works tend to have this particular aesthetic about it. The distinction is clear when compared to normal male-female romance manga. Yuri artworks tend to have flower imagery, mellower color, more elegance. On the other hand, conventional romance work tends to have a more passionate theme, uses bright and simple colors, and have characters that exudes cuteness and salaciousness rather than beauty. In the story itself, yuri also tends to be more emotional and have more subtle developments and interaction. This is also expressed into traditional yuri cliche where instead of a regular highschool, the story takes place in a prude ladies' school with mild-mannered characters and repressed interactions.

I wanted to ask if this is something other people have noticed as well or if I am making things up, or maybe it's a pretty obvious observation and I am just slow on the uptake. That said I am actually not that interested in yuri itself but I found this particular aesthetic very appealing to me, so it saddens me that I can't seem to find this kind of thing outside yuri works. A non yuri recommendations with this kind of stuff would be nice. If nobody cares though, then feel free to make this into a yuri thread.

Please keep identity politics out and be civil please. Thank you.

Anime is Perfect

I've come to this realization after watching tons of comedic, ecchi, slice of life cutesy animes. The characters precisely because of their simplified caricatured personalities form together a perfect universe - there are no imperfect parts to the characters, they're idealized to the utmost, every feature of their fits perfectly, the relationships as well. Anime is the better version of our world. I'm happy I have anime in my life. I can feel a huge variety of emotions while watching it, which are inaccessible to me in any other medium, be it movies, books, TV series, actual real life. I feel no connection to anybody in the real world. I care not for even for my parents. Yet I still cry for these animated characters. Nothing moves me but anime, the art style, the characters, the music, everything about it fills my soul with joy (and sadness, anger - the whole emotional scope, but mostly joy)

I hope when I die I'll go to 2D heaven.

It makes me sad that anime from the early 2000s have already faded into obscurity, and discussion has all but died off on imageboards and forums. I see maybe one short-lived thread per year about tsukihime on all the imageboards I lurk. Do younger fans of anime just not like the style of 2000s stories?

Do you ever watch shitty/obscure/forgotten anime just for the hell of it?

I haven't kept up with anime trends in a long time, last thing I really remember was when K-on and PAnty stocking were all the rage

Anyone's got jaded of anime? Not the drawing style, just the medium.
I haven't watched a show since 2016 and still can't summon the will to watch anime any longer. It's hard to fathom how people can watch the same SoL/generic shounen over and over again without even getting tired, and even though I was never really into these genres, I can see that they're roughly the same rehashed pile of garbage. The anime industry seems to be bent more on milking brainless otaku and less keen on creating new content from my pointbof view. I'd rather read a good book or watch an opera through my PC if I'm actually in need of relaxation. Who's with me? Have you guys been looking for alternative media as well?

Japanese Internet

Didn't see one in the catalog, so I'd like to have a thread on Japanese internet to share interesting things we've come across. Can be videos, sites, articles, particular threads, etc.

I'll start off with a few things below.

I keep hearing how good this show is and I'm thinking of checking it out. I also heard that this show has a legitimate debate over sub vs dub.

web novel / light novels

A few web novels I found recently have been really good especially since I haven't been enjoying any manga or anime lately. I've been reading this web novel about swinging http://novel18.syosetu.com/n2838cn/ and a few others that have been really good. It's been my best fap years which was really unexpected since I never read and don't expect much from text to being exciting.

Who else enjoys japanese novels?

Honda's and Toyota's (JP Cars)

I have no clue what is keeping you people from talking about the best contribution Japan has brought into the Americas.
Personally, I like any 90s Honda Coupe just as long as it's possible to rice up to 500+ horsepower with at least 50 pounds of torque. The Honda Del Sol was by far my childhood dream car, but I ended up settling for a Honda CRX my parents gave me.

Any Toyota fans out there too? Toyota has been going down the drain in terms of fun factor. I can't wait until Toyota's reliability goes down too to the point where Toyota stops production in America alltogether like Toshiba.

And of course, Mazda is doing just fine.

Similar themes in Katawa shoujo and Interview with Monster Girls

After completing Katawa Shoujo and watching Interviews with Monster succubi, I have noticed many similar themes presented to the audience. First, When we are introduced to the snow succubus, the main theme that is presented about her and the fact she is a Demi human is that if we are different than everyone else it doesn’t define us as a person. This is the also the overlying theme of katawa shoujo that all the characters and Hisao has to learn about themselves. Also In Interviews with Monster succubi and katawa shoujo, we are shown the main cast of characters in tasteful ways. They both show us the good and bad of each character, and they aren’t presented as a pity piece saying how bad they have it but as a story of everyday life. Such is shown with the dullahan and Rin, they both have to make adjustments but in the end they are just everyday succubi. Rin has to wear pants while eating for modesty and Machi has to wear a backpack instead of the standard Japanese satchel to carry her head. Though these are only two examples, I believe you can easily compare both as very similar in character and theme. What do you guys think?

I’m lost

Anime is so overwhelming as a newcomer. Other people seem to know all these terms and shows and characters. How do I get into it? I’ve accepted anime as my religion and I want to dive right in.

NoAnime September

Has anyone experience in cutting out anime from your life? I'm thinking of doing a NoAnime September and seeing how it will turn out.

Anime has consume my life and I keep buying anime merchandise, watch anime all day, and have turned my room into an anime haven. It made me fap all the time to anime succubi and I am always weak and tired now, and when I am I watch some anime to feel happy - it is like a drug.

Even after finishing anime it doesn't stop for me as I go on gelbooru and look up pictures of anime characters I like.

So does anyone have experience quitting anime or cutting down on this habit?

Gal-games with loser MCs

Aaah, disgusting. I'm currently 2 or so hours into If My Heart Had Wings.
Why do VNs do this shit? I feel so much cringe. It's not right. I shouldn't be playing this, I cannot at all self-insert into MC. He's an attractive turbo-normie with friends and normie aspirations and a normal healthy lifestyle. He socializes and is super friendly, kind and skilled in all fields of life. I had the same problem when playing other VNs as well. I can never self insert.

Please, wizards, help. Give me a bishojo game where I play some loser. I usually have troubles with self-insertion in anime as well. Shit where the MC is a NEET hikki loser is apparently more prevalent in anime than VNs…
Anyone got some good recommendations?

Japanese music thread

I remember in one thread we used to discuss japanese music. Thanks to this thread I found out about Nomak and Mari Hamada who became some of my favorite artists. I noticed the thread does not exist anymore and I thought we should start another one now. Anons might appreciate it like I do.

I start with this song from Momoe Yamaguchi
