what are anime who are watching right now? I'm watching hikaru no go, I already red the manga but I wanted to watch the anime to catch up if I missed something

 No.40695

Watching the TouHou anime. It's good so far.

 No.41087

I suppose I can review anime I've finised thus far.

FLCL Progressive
I watched it without subtitles for reasons, so kinda didn't understand.
Still fun. 7/10

Welcome to the Ballroom
Actually started the first quarter in 2021 yet didn't finish til now.
My only gripe was the speediness/stylization of the dance. Like it was Beauty and the beast's dance scene directed by the aliens from Edge of tommorrow (if not Zack Snyder on stuff), which gets in the way at times. Otherwise it's fairly intricate in mostly good ways. 7/10

Darling in the Franxx
It's all right as long as you don't look at it as a mecha anime (nor mind the way they pilot them). I dunno, I'm a sucker for animes that are at least barely for the faint of heart yet manage to end on an agreeably optimistic note. Plus that same post-Moebius aesthetic could've been worse. 9/10

World War Blue
Shitty idea. Amazing execution. 8/10

 No.41089

Mob Psycho 100 3.

So far it isn't quite as good as 2 but I haven't even made it to the half way point so there is still room for things to ramp up.
But yeah, much heavier focus on comedy over action so far in the 3rd season.

It's one of those shows that I recognize is high quality but for some reason I don't feel that much interest in watching it. It's not a show I would watch as it's coming out, and when it is out I took a long time to get around to watching it. I still don't remember if I finished season 2 yet. Golden kamuy was kind of the same way for some reason. IDK why I'm more attracted to watching utter trash these days instead of good quality shows with actual plots.

Welp, I watched all the episodes (and a few ovas).
Not sure if I should be honest yet naive nor selective yet cynical.

Suffice to say you'll either love it as an anime and hate it as a superhero show, vice versa, both, or neither.

Still, I don't regret habing gotten this far. ^^

Tokyo revengers has some genius level writing. Idk how this dude manages to make it so damn compelling.

 No.41143

Now I'm a NEET, I started watching Bleach, Naruto and One Piece, one episode of each a day. I am aware it will take me more than one year to finish Bleach, more than two to finish Naruto and probably four to reach the latest One Piece that will still be in production.

 No.41144

>it will take me more than one year to finish Bleach
I just finished Bleach this month. Started on october 1st, I wasn't even watching daily but I have autism so I can watch over 20 episodes a day if I feel like it. I'd recommend reading the manga instead.

 No.41145

>>41143
Forgot to add, don't watch naruto unless it's one of the edits such as Naruto Ocean Edit or Rebuild of Naruto. With One Piece you will be fine, it's the better anime of the three and has almost no filler at all.

I've already read the mangas, except for One Piece that I'm still going through. I'm going for the full experience here, I will take the filler as they come.

 No.41147

Besides the big three I am also going through all Gundam and Pretty Cure, but I'm a little more advanced on those, already on Gundam Victory and Precure Splash Star, same one episode of each a day approach.

Not anime, but I also thought of doing the same for tokusatsu and watch all Super Sentai, Ultraman and Kamen Rider, but the first Kamen Rider sucked so hard that it broke my spirit.

I didn't do the actual calculation, but I think there's less Gundam than One Piece to be watched in total.

Watching Pscyho Diver - Soul Siren (1997). Having a hard time finding info on it, but it's like a more cyberpunk anime version of Jennifer Lopez's Cell movie. Instead of diving into a serial killer's mind, they dive into a popstar's mind, but a mind being controlled by a cult.

 No.41155

I am watching sousou no frieren, tokyo revengers S2, Saihate no paladin S2, doupou cangqiong, bing huo mo chu, cang yuan tu, shen yin wangzuo, Di yi xulie, and Tunshi Xingkong S2. All these are currently airing. Chinese shows have really increased the amount of shows I have to watch. I'm thinking about dropping bing huo mo chu and saihate no paladin because they're not very good. Already dropped goblin slayer S2.

I watched 1st cour of Bleach Thousand-Year Blood War. Tomorrow I will watch the 2nd cour. So far it's much better than the original anime pacing wise and in almost every other aspect, excluding the original anime 1st arc and the major battles, this is the anime quality Bleach deserved and glad the final arc will get this proper and serious treatment.

>fellow Battle Through the Heavens enjoyer
Based. I'll check out some of the other stuff you listed.

On another note, I'm also watching Frieren, and was very impressed through 6 episodes. However, I fear that it may end up going downhill. The characterisation of demons leaves little room in my mind for them to be compelling antagonists. I'll give it a couple more episodes for now.

 No.41195

>>41189
Yeah, everything was good except for the voice acting for kuchiki byakuya which was jarring every time I heard it. It also felt like tite kind of stopped taking it as seriously for a while there with more ridiculous characters like the pro wrestling dude. I wish he had kept it more serious, the quincies were just too goofy to be good villains.

 No.41196

>>41190
Frieren has over a 9 on MAL right now. That seems excessive to me. It is good, but not over 9 good. I thought the portrayal of the demons was interesting enough, at least for the side characters who aren't wise to their true nature. It does seem a bit boring for frieren herself since she is wise to it.

As for the stuff I listed, shen yin wangzuo is probably the best despite it having video-game-like elements in it and being heavily based on romance, both things I usually don't like. It is solid shounen. Good characters, good dramatic scenes that move you, and shounen vibes that make you want to fight for justice. Cang yuan tu is just getting started but I feel like it has a lot of potential. The writing is clearly a step above your average chinese show. Usually in chinese shows people just kind of randomly get angry at each other and want to kill each other over trivial slights, in other words, people act very unnaturally, but this show has characters that act like humans with good motivations and whatnot. Tunshi xingkong is heavily reliant on action, especially in the beginning to carry it. The world building gets progressively more interesting as the show goes on which is good, but this is not the kind of show you watch for the drama or characters, but if you like action you should be able to enjoy it until the point where the world building becomes more interesting.

Taking into consideration what MAL as to say about anything is no different than seeking out the opinions of Redditors. Even looking at the reviews for something you're already interested in watching and have formed your own impressions of is strange behavior. You like it, so you keep watching it. Whether or not others enjoy it at this point is irrelevant.

Trend-chasing seasonal rate EVERYTHING new as good. The vast majority of those rating it positively have never even heard of the manga, and will quickly forget about this adaption as soon as the new big anime comes out in December.

 No.41198

MAL is literally and I mean literally normalfags and females and redditor trannies. I was there the other day and this stack appeared out of nowhere:
https://myanimelist.net/stacks/37721

Then I clicked on what kind of mentally ill individual normalfag freak would even do something like that and found it was one of those lgbt retards who ruin every online space
https://myanimelist.net/profile/Keizakomu

that's why you should Never give a single shit about what those normalniggers on MAL write about anime. Always watch things for yourself and then form your own opinion. There's anime that's badly rated but that I thought it was okay and enjoyed but it probably wasn't good enough for those redditor niggers from /r/ anime to turn into a meme and beating the few jokes into the ground.

 No.41200

The top reviews for Kekkou Kamen and Cutey Honey animes are feminist apologists, one of them being a tranny. They try to paint literal sexual fantasies by a crab (Go Nagai was deliberately kept a virgin by other members of the industry) as some female empowering tale. The MAL community is pure cancer.

Just watched the 2nd cour of Bleach Thousand-Year Blood War and what a horrible fucking let down of a second season. Absurd and forced plot, every previous build up ruined with ridiculous annoying enemies and messy fights that a kid would come up with and take away any seriousness or tension and nobody, and I mean nobody, can take seriously. It's not even fun and can only be taken as a bad parody.
Any anticipation of good action is ruined because the enemies from its very concept are ugly, immature, and silly, and they conduct themselves as such. They should be replaced with more humane characters, add more background so we can get fleshed out and even relatable enemies and not this canned recycled anime antagonists who are a sore to the eyes.

I did enjoy some moments but they become isolated when you have to endure the rest and more annoying and prevalent moments.
But it's to be expected, as usual, it seems that the only good thing will be the last major final battles.

 No.41214

Is there anything good about MAL to warrant maintaining a list of viewed anime? If I rate enough shows, is there a feature I can use to be given automated recommendations based on what other users with similar taste have seen before me? Or is it just a dick-measuring number goes up contest?

What do you want me to say?
As someone who has made a SHITTON of juvenilia in the style of manga since fucking High School, I can't really relate.

Sure, some bits hit home like a feather while others felt like a threat if I even considered going back.

The anime was fine, just remember that, all things considered, this is the guy from Death Note taking the piss.

So yeah, at its best it's a fluffy soap opera with a happy ending. At its worst a strict wake up call.

Right now I'm watching Combatants Will Be Dispatched since I'm almost done with the manga. Despite coming out in 2021 it watches like an anime from 1997. It's about time something fun came out again. I'm comparing Urusei Yatsura 2022 to the original from 1981 right now, and I've watched the original and all the movies many times. So far the remake feels sanitized. They removed a lot of personality from the characters. The music isn't as good either. I'm still spotting through One Long Piss as well, been watching since 2013.

Cafe Terrace and its Goddesses.
At its best it's Haganai done better, meaning it essentially has most of Wotakoi's believability, solid characterisations and even likability. It got to the point where the very ground's complex lighting pattern was a work of art.
At its worst it's inevitably Haganai also done worse, meaning, well, you're better off looking up Love Hina once again compared to the annoying situations which are expected from a harem. Also, while only the first two thirds of Wotakoi were good before it became generic, Cafe Terrace remains consistent up until the final episode.
Though fuck me do they nearly throw everything away had they not taken a shortcut which allows an open interpretation. Overall it's very much a wholesome and unique harem anime disguised as a cliched one with all the expected trappings and tropes. 9.5/10

Dimension W
Read a few volumes of the manga a while back. I have to say that the idea seems too much for me to digest. But the mere fact its a visual reconstruction of 90s scifi anime, and has a unique visual design, got my attention all throughout. It was something different with classic roots overall. 8/10

Shangri la frontier has become my most anticipated show and frankly I'm a bit angry they stole 2 minutes of air time from me this week with a singing bunny. I hate all music numbers in anime and it's especially bad in a show I actually enjoy because the song robs me of that show. At least this one is 25 episodes instead of 12.
