Finished Higurashi (the original 8 chapters, not the bonus chapters) + Rose Guns Days. Higurashi is good for chapter 1-6, then the last two sucked. The ending was really bad and disappointing. But from 1-6, especially the first 3 chapters are great. Favorite characters: K1, Mion, Takano.
RGD is so-so, it has some very intense scenes and cool moments but also some very boring or pointless ones. It is also full of normalfag propaganda with the author shilling for having a family and such traditional values. Overall, it is worth the read. My favorite characters were Wayne, Alan, Meijiu, Gabriel, Richard. All the females were super annoying in this one or is it just me? Could be because they are actual whores.
I was reading Umineko and finished until episode 7 but back then the translation for episode 8 wasn't done yet so I left that out. (I read a summary on the net about the plot and how the story ended and I wasn't motivated to actually finish it, but nowadays I plan on reading Umineko completely.) Fav characters: Eva (same VA as Takano, she is extremely talented), Rosa, Ange, Erika. I can say that both this and Higurashi are good when they get to dark or mysterious points but the normalfag themes make them hard to bear. Higurashi is about friendship, Umineko about love, as a wiz I can't appreciate the focus on these things. Also, more focus should have been on the adults instead of Battler and cousins and their teenager love problems. Umineko question arcs are great but the core arcs are pretty meh, except for 5. Higurashi had very entertaining question arcs too but Kai was so-so. This seems a common problem for me with R07's stuff. I know about his writing and how he thinks good times and bad times need to follow each other but still…less SOL and more horror/mystery/drama! If that was the case these VNs would be perfect.
