The humor and much of the characters' discussions are highly topical to the place and era (Tokyo, 2005) and the whole purpose of the series is to satiate otakus' needs for representation and for a succubus who is literally them. To someone like OP who has never seen an anime before, an anime that is about nothing for 50% of the time and about otaku consumerism for the rest, Lucky Star is a horrible manga and anime to recommend to someone who's not already grounded in the anime sphere.
