They don't have any other hobbies, Why don't you spend your free time to learn another language? I spend most of the day learning Russian and it's super easy to pick up on when you switch all all your media consumption to match the language you are learning. Music, streamers, forums. It's like a whole new world opens up to you. Things don't seem as boring. >don't have job so I watch anime for up to 12 hours
>>319580 The least active board on here. >>319581 Language learning can be tedious especially if you're not a fast learner like my self but the feeling of accomplishment and noticeable improvement is always awesome, for me it's no different than learning how to play a complex Paradox interactive game to be able to play it properly and enjoy it.
>>319582 >The least active board on here. It's faster than /games/ and /music/, so OP has less clause to suggest music and streamers as outlets over other hobbies
i used to spend my time studying different forms of art and reading books. I was really into poetry for a bit. Anyways im a useless neet. i get prone to depression and i give up on things. its easier to just exist.
>>319629 It's okay to suck at some thing and be good at others. If you can't do one thing or it doesn't engage you, try something different. For example, I like to mess around in Photoshop to create collages of my waifu. You know, this aesthetic stuff with various images and hearts that you see on pinterest. It's silly but it's low pressure and fun. Besides, I create something and then use it as my phone wallpaper, so it's productive… I guess? And when you do that, you can branch out and start using Photoshop for different creative reasons. I already know how to use some apps like that because I draw, but you can try too. Another low pressure thing I do is knitting. You say: GAY! And yeah, it's kinda gay, but I can watch YouTube or anime while I knit so I do two things at once and it's still doing something. Anyway, my point is, try doing a lot of things and see what sticks. Books are boring? Then why the fuck are you reading them? Try doing something different. Like listening to classical music and learning about it.
I've been wanting to learn to draw for 10 years now and still haven't started.
I think I figured out why.
1. As a kid I felt no pressure to succeed or compare myself to others. I didn't even think about time. I could spend a whole day just doodling in mspaint with no intention to post the results anywhere. But after turning 20, it sounds stupid now in my 30s, I started to compare myself to others and feel this pressure to succeed. Which made me stressed and afraid to waste time which counterproductively made me waste all my time on imageboards because that felt like an activity I could quit at any moment. I've seen others complain about similar. They will spend hours trying to pick the best movie to watch when they could have just watched whatever in that time.
2. I have no confidence: There is nothing about myself to feel good about. So when I try to learn a new skill and get confronted with the difficulty of it and perhaps with people my age or younger who are already good at it when I look for advice I feel inferior. My frustration tolerance is really low. Any setback and I spiral into self-hate.
I don't know a good solution for it. It just gets worse the older I get and the worse it feels to have no skills. I think I need to clumb this steep hill and toughen it out until I get good enough to not feel bad about myself anymore. I'm at a point where I don't have any distractions anymore. I don't enjoy browsing the internet anymore. Don't care about video games. Don't watch tv shows. Kinda have no other choice but to start doing something meaningful.
>>319575 >spend your free time to learn another language? there are plenty of low cost hobbies to master, but language isn't one of them. Unless you move to that country and speak and read it every living moment you aren't going to master it like someone who was raised with it. Learning how to draw Chinese figures is fun, but don't expect to be fluent in the spoken work. In fact the very nature of practicing language means you have to be social. Where do you think you are posting?
>>319575 Because all hobbies are boring all i enjoy is playing videogames, watching porn and mindless scrolling. Also unfortunately i'm not a NEET anymore and i wish i was still one. I hate working and people so fucking much.
I sometimes do this with japanese but you still have to put in a lot of effort if you want to understand. Consuming media is just a lot more fun. You can make learning fun but it will always require discipline and be less fun than just playing a video game you like. If you have a super power to learn any language in an instant you wouldn't learn Russian from scratch for the fun of it but there are people who replay games they already beaten or give themselves difficult restriction because the gaming process is fun in itself. That said I should really stop. I have a very addictive personality and when I get too engrossed in games or social media shitposting it makes me so excited I can't even sleep and I feel like shit until I wake up late tomorrow to get on my computer again. >>319629 I think this is romanticization. Learning new things will always take a lot of grinding. It definitely won't feel pleasurable. Maybe there are savants out there who are born to just do one thing and feel immense pleasure and motivation doing things that other people have to force themselves to do. We are likely not those kind of people. If you want to be able to draw or be good at math or sports that requires a lot of hours tediously sketching and doing practice drills.
>>319630 I have moment like this too where I learn to do things without having to expend any effort because the motivation just comes naturally. Making porn edits or editing skyrim mods are things that I can just sit for hours trying to do and not notice the hours go by. But this form of motivation is limited. If I want to be actually good at photoshops or video editing I can't do that from just making the edits I want, I have to start looking up boring tutorials and practicing. You might say what's the problem with not being good. Well I am assuming since this is a thread about NEET we want to learn useful skills to break free of our condition. If people don't care about work or society then I don't know why they would care about productivity. They can just continue doing what they are doing.
>>319832 idk I think it depends on the person many artists and creators say they started creating their own stuff at a very early age because consuming was not enough I myself don't understand it though, I've always been fine just consuming
>>319832 I disagree. Making stuff is legitimatly fun to me. Same with autistically getting better at a special interest as the real world fades away in the background for hours at a time. Being deep in my own world is better than being in someone else's, though any fantasy world is better than the real world.
I don't know. I'm kinda bored with just consuming. I started writing fanfiction not so long ago, and even though my writing sucks balls, it's kinda enjoyable to write about the worlds I like.
>>319862 There is no energy to your plucking. It sounds as if you are trying to play quietly. Your fingers are ramen noodles. Vocaroo attaches your IP address to uploads and anyone can inspect the element to find it out.
>>319896 Alienation in marxist sense is more like you aren't fully exploring your potential, and wasting your time doing something beside you search for self fulfillment, in theory NEETs have the freedom to pursue his self fulfillment
All that other hobby shit you mentioned just doesn't do it for me. Gaming is the only form of entertainment that still brings me joy as a lifelong NEET. Hell, I was even looking to buy a Switch 2 but they're sold out where I live. Might have to wait a few more months.
>>319963 Same, and I'm not a NEET. I like games because they have a clearly defined goal, or at least a set of rules or mechanics that limit what you can do. I guess I'm more of a follower than a leader. I can't even lead my own life, but I'll happily do what the game tells me.
Because it's fun? Literally the only reason you cared to learn Russian is because you had an interest in it. Ain't no way someone's gonna pick up a pursuit as pointless as that because someone just told them to. There is genuinely nothing to life but idle fancies and soulless mechanical survival. If you don't have interests your entire life will never contain anything but maintenance. At least almost any fool can find value in art so no matter how empty your insides are you'll probably still get a kick out of playing or watching something. Taking pride in having interests and taking the absolute easiest possible course of action through pursuing them is such a nothing. Whatever inflates the self image.
>>319575 I learn Japanese by consuming untranslated Japanese media, you know. But I know that not everyone is like me. I look at these ironic weebs who boast about having watched like 900 anime, yet they don't know a word of Japanese. Imagine if they watched anime raw/with JP subs instead. Maybe they wouldn't reach the 900 figure in the same amount of time (due to pausing, looking up words, etc) but they would cultivate a decent comprehension of Japanese.
>>319896 >Ok answer me this one thing NEETS. Yes work is alienating in a Marxist or Anarchist sense, but so is not working right? >Because almost everyone else appears to be in employment or training during most of the week which feels very alienating and distressing. Shut up, working is hell.
>>319575 >It's like a whole new world opens up to you. lol you're still young, you still have much to suffer through
his approach to keep telling me "you're smart you'll handle this" is shit, shit
He has never helped me to pick a direction to dig towards. Has never told me to get into a profitable niche. Always had this wonky "what if i'll accidentally put you into the wrong place? you'll be mad"
he never cared i am a wizard, even >Because it's fun? Literally the only reason you cared to learn Russian is because you had an interest in it. Ain't no way someone's gonna pick up a pursuit as pointless as that because someone just told them to
You are right. Being a consumer is actually a really sad existence as a NEET.
Back in the day I was really into cinema and would watch 3 feature films a day, sometimes more. After a while, I started feeling like my brain was deteriorating.
What I did was pick up a guitar and a DAW and start creating music. It's way more stimulating, and I actually feel like I'm being productive (in the sense that my time is not spent on onanism)
>>319582 >the feeling of accomplishment and noticeable improvement is always awesome Now imagine not experiencing that feeling, there you go, you just answered your question. Consuming media is a reliable and effortless way to escape reality, which is what a NEET needs and craves in order to be able to endure the unbearable tediousness of being alive.
Because it's easy and it makes you not think about the bad stuff. >Why don't you spend your free time to learn another language? I spend most of the day learning Russian and it's super easy to pick up on when you switch all all your media consumption to match the language you are learning Oh wait I am already doing this. It makes no difference though. It's still passive consumption and I can't transform the experience of reading japanese manga into discipline to do other stuff. It's just consuming media with extra steps. If anything, most media are so boring nowadays I can't even enjoy it without the added challenge of reading foreign sentences.
