I've heard Planet Fitness is a good way to help homelessness because it's a small monthly membership ($10) with access to showers, bathrooms, free food (they have special CHEAT DAY stuff), and open 24/7. I hope this advice helps someone out there.

Will share my tips from previous thread
If you work in an office enviroment being homeless for few months or even years can save you a lot of money. I did it for few months and here are my tips

Requirements:
-Have an unlocked bathroom/water source
-No security patrolling the floors at night / No active cameras
Bonus:
-Having an office kitchen
Literally google level comforts where sleepig in offie is seen normal
-Having shovers, gym in office etc. If you have a cush job as such you probably don't need my advice

Anyways here are my advice
1-Observe before comitting, learn the cleaning schedule (usually daily on bathrooms, weekly on floors) Check whether there is any cameras, security patrolling etc. Stay in office late, maybe go back to your home at 9-10pm see whether you have any anomalies. Leave the light open while leaving and come to work early, see if light is still on
2-If you have a kitchen. Began to eat at office a lot, tell them you are regimented, prepare and eat your breakfast and lunch at work. That why no one will creep out when you suddenly bring a weeks worth of groceries to the kitchen
3-Learn to live minimally, You will realize you don't need too much stuff, but that is far more relevant in an office enviroment, You should have 1 or maybe 2 luggage worth of stuff, you can put all your belongings in dravers, cuboards and stuff luggages at ground or high at top. Be economical. You don't need 10 plates, just basic kitchenware, one cup etc would be fine
4-Absolutely never mention you are living in office, never ever ever ever. Never admit if, If you get caught (which you shouldn't) it should be an exception. You had tons of work this week so decided to crash. NEVER EVER admit to anything. NADA. This is very important.
5-Go on a stealth mode. Go to bed when you are absolutely sure no one is in office, wake up before the cleaning crew arrives. In my office the place filled up in 8 and cleaning ladies would be around in 7. So I always woke up at 6. I woke up at 5 just to be sure. My 11 to 6 sleep schedule was extremely regiemented. With cutting caffeine and drinking some herbal tea (maybe placebo) I managed get into a strict schedule with relative ease. And not waking up at 10 am at weekends didn't bothered me nor made me tired. If anything I felt better on mondays compare to my schedule on weeks/ fuck up on weekends regiment.
6-Do not use airbags, airbags are not comfortable, hard to manually pump and very loud to use a machine to pump. You might get use to it but it is not comfortable at all. Get a tri folding foam matress and buy its cover. Extremely comfortable easy to storge below your desk and could act like a comfy ottoman when you are working. Get a sheet, some pillows and a cover for matress and you are good. It took me 2 minutes to make my bed and 2-3 minutes to pack it back on morning.
7-People might not know, but they WILL suspect. Why you are always staying late? Why in the last 7 moments on the 4 times they came to office to pick up something at 7 pm you were still on your pc? Pretend ignorance, feign it, appeal to pity and how you are so pridefull to not admit it. BUT NEVER ADMIT IT
8-Cleaning ladies are the eyes and ears of the office. Be extremely careful around them. If your floor is getting cleaned on Tuesdays 6 pm, get out. Do NOT bump into the ladies again and again on a regular basis. They will be sympathetic to your plight, but don't think they wont sell you out moment your manager suspect something is fishy
9-Shower, you might not think you will smell but you WILL smell. Showering is essential so is laundry. Your luggage can act like your laundry basket, make sure to clean your clothes. Make sure to go to the gym and shower at least once per 2-3 days. You must up your cleaning habbits since now you are living in office 24/7. An important addendum to this is to VENTILATE your office and prerferably the entire floor if possible after you wake up
10-Always keep a tidy enviroment. This is extremely important. My biggest fear was to be locked out of my office floor or the office itself. If you are not careful act like you live in your home and be all over the place, and also lock yourself out then when people unlock the room for you they will see all your shit out in the open. Therefore HIDE your stuff until the last moment. Do not take out your bed when office goes empty, only take it when you are going to sleep. Always wear some kind of clothing. The line between comfy and sluggish is quite blurry and you can dress in a comfy manner while still looking acceptable. Don't pull out shit you dont need. Always assume you might be locked out. With that being said
11-NEVER LOST THE KEYS. Keys are your lifeline. Always wear them, again remember you are not in your home, you are living in an office where there are doors after doors after doors. I had to pass through 3 locked doors to go to the bathroom. So imagine that while going to piss in the middle of the night. ALWAYS have your keys with you, I had them like a necklace aronud my neck and I always checked whether I took them with me or not on every instant that I went out of my room.
12-My final advice, is to be militant. Throughout I told you to wake up regimented, shower regimented, keep your room tidy etc. Hell since you are going to gym and have to eat a bit decently/roleplay as you have a diet, it might be better to eat health and workout too.

I don't miss living in office but boy It tought me a lot. Being homeless while having a job plus a place to sleep in was awesome. You will be amazed how much of your money goes to rent and unwarranted bills, how much of your time is lost commuting.

That being said all the advice above applies to the lucky few who have an office job like mine.

 No.168717

nobody goes out of their way to help you. they'll let you sleep in -10 instead of lending the couch.

 No.168728

Don't become the guy sleeping on the street, alley, sidewalk. Once you become that it's hard to pullout, especially for one of us. The streets will eat you alive.

If your parents throw you out. Swallow your pride and try to beg your way in to a close relatives basement, attic or garage. But, your neet days will be over with. If you cant do that, find the place in your country with the cheapest housing prices and head there, some shitty trailer park you could live in while you get back on your feet. That eeeeww Grosss, sorry thats out the window, any housing is better than on the street. 4 walls, a floor and a roof, and you can piece things back together. Get government money if it is there. learn the squatting communities. Dont bother with the larp live in a van bs, it's gonna break down, you arent gonna be able to fix it, and you re gonna lose all your stuff.

 No.168793

>>168728
This is very true.
I littrally prefred to stay on a labor camp with crackheads, drunks, and failed wannabe thug chads then go back to trying to bealy survive on the streets.
Eventually earned enough money to move to a room in a trailer home, and now live on my own in a brick and mortar building.
If I play my cards right I may even find a modest house that I can own outright.

Once you are out there working and staying in some pretty shitty living situations becomes a lot more appealing.
That said, with a income I do think that camper van and RV life is possible, BUT you have to have a income to be able to do it and you have to have some skills to be able to maintain it yourself.

 No.168866

If you dont want to buy a house, just get a $100k class A or B RV and a couple of storage kiosks around the country. You can ask 30-40k off rvs in most cases. Forget dump hookups, just let that sewage drain in the middle of nowhere away from a road. Invest 3k or so in a 400-500w solar array, nice controller with lithium batteries. Get a efficient danfoss compressor fridge that runs off your batteries and you can boondock near indefinitely (within reason). In a cold climate? Dont use propane forced air much, use a electric blanket. Super efficient!

Go out hiking, visit your national parks, visit friends and friends of family. Go see all those places you've seen on the boob tube. Friggin so many free roads, parks, federal land out there anyone can use for months at a time. Fish, hunt… at least get a little .22 to plunk and shoot squirrels and groundhogs. Induction plates/grills are useful, don't forget dual wall vacuum insulated cups, bowls with lids.

If you have a spare $120k just buy a cheap house or build one. Blowing that kind of money on a RV is for well to do people who don't have to worry about being homeless when the thing breaks down.

Most things are harder when you're black. I'd be afraid of hate crimes and just getting randomly "picked up" by cops or whomever for being homeless then only to find you have a scar on your chest from a missing organ. This goes for all wizards, how are you not afraid of organ theft or some other shady shit from living on the street?

 No.169138

>>169137
I'm not an expert or anything but living in a cold place, layers and shelter from wind and wet. Sort of on that subject and worth mentioning, woolen clothing. Wool is so excellent because it retains insulating properties even when wet. Wool clothing is so worth it to try and get if you are facing late fall/early winter somewhere cold outdoors.

 No.169142

>>169137
Layers of clothing, squatting, making relatively warm camp set ups, using shelters when it hits below freezing, sleeping on vents, camp fires, staying active at the coldest part of the night and sleeping in libraries or other places during the day that have heat, traveling south for the winter, etc.

There are a lot of options to keep you alive. I mainly did the layers thing while traveling south. Also had a sleeping bag that I could warm up by pulling over my head and warm the whole thing up to body temp with my breath, which kept me very far from hypothermia even on freezing nights, but the thing was super bulky and made travel a major pain. It did save my life so it was worth it but still not as ideal as other options. It was just what I had to work with so I made it work.

I'm assuming your sleeping bag is strapped to the bottom/outside of your bag. Because there's no reason for it to be inside, get a compression/trash bag and some straps/rope if you need to.
As for the tent, I'd use a tarp if I were you, it depends on your set up and climate obviously, but I've stayed under tarps in -10c. There's def more fiddling to do with a tarp then a tent, but IMO, the weight/volume savings are worth it. It's also much better for stealth camping.
For water, I'd also recommend strapping a bottle to the top of the pack.

Moving all your things is always going to be a little awkward though, finding a nice secluded spot at the outskirts of town to leave your camp at is a nice plus. That's what did, but I understand that many would not be comfortable leaving their stuff, or walking in and out of the city every day. Depends on your area too.

Anyways, good luck.

Let me break it to you. Especially being white there is about a 2.46% chance that in a first-world nation you are going to need to fend for your life on the streets, unless you are a felon with drug-addled mental illnesses.
- Have you ever spent a night out in the cold without any shelter?
- Have you ever been in a situation where you had no-one to call and you had an emergency?
Your LARPs fall flat at even the first hurdles, so it's best to just stop with it and write a novel if you want to entertain fantasies

For reference, I dropped out of highschool and have several diagnosed mental illnesses, although the real problem is my autism which makes it almost impossible for me to function socially or in a work environment, to the point people think I'm retarded, and some yet unnamed problem where I lose track of reality and experience some really weird and confusing shit. I'll tell you this, there is a high chance wizzies might end up on the streets, and it is not as hard as it seems if you've done any planning. Bring a tent, bring lots of blankets, bring something to heat food in (any pan or can will do) and most importantly KNOW YOUR AREA. 90% of my survival was because I knew where to sleep without being disturbed. Not every nation's army will just take in anybody who asks and has no other options. A lot of people here would not make the cut to even get into basic training in some armys (including me). Might be an option for some people some places, but will also absolutely not be an option for many.

I disagree that jail is necessarily better than homelessness, unless you're totally unconcerned with environment and its inhabitants and only care about muh roofnfood. Trying to get into a looney bin would probably be better than a literal jail, still jail-like but probably safer and at least someone there is likely to give some kind of fuck about your well-being.

Maybe it was already mentioned but I heard this before in a guide to being a hobo, granted a very old one: if you are going to beg/ask for food or a meal, don't exaggerate how long it has been since you ate thinking it will make them want to help you more. Applied to strangers, of course, not actual soup kitchen/food banks/church rec center meal places. A stranger will be more empathetic with someone who "hasn't eaten since lunch yesterday" than someone who hasn't had more than an apple in the last four days, because they can probably relate to the former, but the latter is seen as unhealthy, dangerous territory only unhealthy, dangerous people tread.

Anyway carrying wetwipes or baby wipes, or spare TP are all good ideas if you have them and it doesn't weigh you down too much. They can be used for several things, especially wetwipes which can also be used to freshen up and clean things off.

If you really must go and have no access to a proper bathroom then using a plastic bag or digging a small cat hole are quick and reasonable options if you didn't plan ahead and have to go NOW. Don't do that cali/indian shit where they just shit on the street. Not only is that nasty but most places have no tolerance for that and if the cops don't beat your ass the locals will if they catch you shitting up their neighborhood.

Just water is also not good enough for any modern standard of hygiene.

Something I've been thinking about - what is a good way to dress to make people think better of you? I feel like being clean shaven, groomed and wearing a suit automatically defuses any police/aggressive rando situation drastically. What are some other fashion styles that signal "put together", "not a lowlife", etc. A polo and khakis? I dunno. In normal circumstances I don't give a fuck about what I wear since I know I have a home go back to. But I feel like dressing well could be a strategic thing for homeless people.

Really depends here. I live out of my sedan-sized car, and I love it actually. I would never tell someone to BUY a van for vanlife, but if you have a van or car you can absolutely live very comfortably out of it if homelessness becomes a possibility. You'll need income for the occasional repairs and of course gas, but it's often a TON cheaper than an appartment, and you can follow the work around the country.

Less harsh and not as many cold days recently, due to climate change I assume, but still cold enough to be constantly shivering inside and just freezing miserable all the time. There is zero heat retention here, so I have to sit or stand in front of a plug in heater all the time to keep somewhat warm. Burn myself often, end up getting sick from the cold anyway, and sick again from accidentally sticking my nose too close to the heater when turning around.

Only thing I like about the cold is it's easier to sleep compared to now, when I need a big ass fan on full blast right over my face.

I have plans to spend a few months walking across Europe (from Western France eastward), ideally sleeping outdoors each night or in abandoned buildings. Do you have any idea of what basic gear I will need and how expensive that may be?

I was thinking:

x1 sleeping bag
x1 water-resitant bivvy (to go over the sleeping bag
x2 pairs of clothing (two pairs of socks, etc)
x1 non-plastic water bottle
x1 metal fork
x1 toothbrush, comb, toothpaste and soap

My main issue is with sleeping outdoors. Is it enough to simply find some woods and lay down in a dry area inside a bivvy and sleeping bag, or should I get a a one-person tent (they seem expensive), tarp, groundsheet or something like that?

 No.170569

 No.170575

>>170567
If it's not gonna be cold don't bother with the sleeping bag, just a bivy and a tarp will do if it's during summer. Not sure if there are mosquitoes in Europe or what but you might want to invest in a bug net. I wouldn't buy/carry a metal fork or any cooking stuff unless you're 100% going to be using it.

Finding spots to sleep in the countryside and woods is easy as fuck. Cities are more complicated but usually you can find a spot. Just use common sense and pick spots where you won't be seen and where people wouldn't go.

Personally I dealt with the bugs which sucked so I don't recommend. Also during humid summer inside a bivy which also sucked. And I experienced the lack of oxygen/air circulation too and dealt with it which also sucked. So as I said get a bug net and sleep inside it with no bivy/sleeping bag during the warm months, or a tent, whatever YOU personally want to carry.

There aren't really any tips to give on sleeping in the countryside except as I said in the other post to pick a spot where you won't be seen so you won't get robbed/assaulted/disturbed/etc.

Also take pictures and make posts here on wizchan as I am interested since I want to vagabond in Europe next and I'm sure many others here are also interested. Maybe even make videos and upload them to YouTube.

Any tips for me? I’m thinking if I should rather be homeless than live at home.

My older brother made a hole through my door so he can watch me I think he’s pretty gay but I put a jacket over the hole on my side of the door so he can’t watch me. Him and the younger sisters like to put Nutella and lubricant on my door handle too.

I have to keep my door locked otherwise they might decide to dump cat shit on my bed.

I have to buy takeaway cause if I buy food it will most likely get eaten.

The only saving grace is at least I have my own room with a lock.

Whenever I have an argument my mum just tells me to move out.

Trying to get a job but it’s a lot harder than I thought and it’s hard to rent too.

I did get a job at maccas but somehow my older brother found out so he wants me to get fired. He’s autistic. I haven’t told him where I work and I don’t want to ever.

Keep up with the job/earning money thing as well as mine all your social connections (if you have any) to look for a place to stay, even if it is just couch surfing for a bit.

As long as you have income coming in and low expenses you can probably find a way to make it on your own.
So focus on that and make sure to keep striving for a income and keep it away from your brother so he doesn't fuck it up for you.

Being homeless is worse, but if you can even get a shit job or other income it opens up a lot of options if you are smart with the little bit of money you got coming in.
Look for single rooms to rent, or reach out to extended family, and friends of family to see if they might have a room to rent out for a lower then market rate.
Even asking around the work place if you aren't hated their might open up leads.

The best deals and lowest rate places to rent usually aren't listed but rather arrangements made by knowing someone. You don't have to be close or even be super comfortable with them, just know them well enough to form a informal business arrangement.

Once you got your space away from torment, keep working on yourself and your situation until you got the income or opportunity to get a place all to yourself that is stable.
That is the goal.

While it may suck having your dickass family members mess with you, it is better then having to deal with dozens of random asshole street people who are willing to be far more malicious for even less reason.

Like your brother probably won't shank you with a rusty utility knife because he somehow got the idea in his head that you might have his drug of choice stashed in your bag.
Or have some crackhead literally piss on your sleeping gear because you are too close to his favorite spot to have nasty crackhead sex with his gay lover.

Your goal should be to get money and move ASAP.
You want to improve your situation not make it worse.

New to the site so this is my first time here. But unfortunately not new to homelessness. All I can offer as advice is Pic related for transportation bikes and shelter hammock since it's the most portable and the ground is hard and cold at night. If you can pass for a normal person get a dog from any website that offers them for free there are plenty of people that want to get rid of them. They will protect and wake you up in case of danger(most dogs will some are useless stick with german shepherd if you can). Use Google maps to find grocery markets that don't have an secured garbage bin or look for a charity that gives food. Winter is a disaster and a cave is actually 7c constant temperature and usually that's terrible but if outside you have -10c it could save your life also big cities don't get that cold even in winter. If your in Europa I suggest the south of Italy.

Shit, really wish I was better at giving advice on dealing with family dynamics and social shit but like I said, autism.

Night shift is the best time imo to work in service industry jobs. Less interaction, sometimes better pay, and usually the work is more straight forward.
Lockdown or not, unless you are in China or something you are still allowed to take lone walks by yourself. Once you got that income coming in you are in the home stretch of getting away and living on your own.

Bigger chains give stuff directly to charities that help the homeless. They really don't like giving stuff directly to people for a number of reasons.
That said those charities are not hard to find and are a lifesaver when it comes to staying fed on no money without having to beg or dig in trash.

If you are in a new area ask around at the library and they will usually have info on who is handling out food locally wear they are doing it and when.

One guy was a stealth camper and lived from his tent while doing oddjobs, travelling, hanging out in museums on spare time and stuff like that. He had lots of tips on his website about gear and climates, where to camp et cetera.

I wish I could find it.
For example he liked to get rid of crap and reduce his possessions to a minimum. He also liked desert climate because according to him, wetness is the source of many problems (mosquitos, soaked clothes that won't warm you anymore, drying problem)

He liked San Diego and he had his spot where he would set up camp at night and move away before dawn next morning to avoid being detected.
He also had a story when he was in Nevada and he loved it there because lots of the land is federal land and you can just squat there without anyone bothering you. He said in deserts there are no mosquitos and he could just sleep in his sleeping bad under open sky

It had like a section
>things you don't need in life
that was the best part of it. For example he said you don't need shaving foam because without water it is useless anyways. He used vaseline for shaving and had many tricks like that to get away in dry climates.
he had an entire section where he philosophed about how useless most things in our lives are and you don't actually need them at all

and I think the general color of his blog was green and it was a rather old style of website not this javascript crap you see everywhere today. He did not post much in the past few years but he was very active from 2010 on. I think he lost his home in the real estate bubble and had to become stealth camper by necessity and then he made an art of it. It was so interesting to read his stories. He travelled very cheap by plane because when he was still employed he had lots of business flights and those miles were collected or something and he had VIP status no idea how exactly it was.

he was a white guy doing odd jobs over internet or something.
He wrote how he was doing more cultural stuff then normies ever do. He would go in cheap cinema broadcasts in the afternoons or he would spend time at museums and libraries and learn about all types of things.

I just remembered he had a story where he was travelling to florida in the winter. He was at the key islands and he shown the best techniques to stay undetected there. I will try to find the blog again this week

you welcome
I will check it out again too
Got this idea to get my own van living adventure ready
Lately I have been watching RV stuff on youtube too.

I cannot believe people spend 200K on a RV home
If you bought a van for transportation like a postal service uses them, you could just put a 6ft. x 2 ft. matress or rubber mat inside and sleep in a sleeping bag on it. That would be 1/10th of the cost for a new vehicle.
The sleeping bag could be rated for the climate you plan to stay in or if you drive around you could even have extra blankets or something.
You can upgrade it with all sorts of things like a solar panel on the roof

Once you have a van to sleep in, you don't even need a tent anymore unless you plan to do excursions into places that have no drivable roads. Then you are left with about 2 sq. yards of space left for whatever you need:
>travelling luggage with your clothes inside
>water canisters for drinking and washing yourself
>ropes to hang towels or laundry on

I understand why RVs are so popular in america though.
Lots of no-man's land to squat on and gas is cheap and no mandatory insurance for the car
this way you can reduce your costs to basically the fuel costs and costs for maintenance and repairs.

thank you man
this is the one I was looking for

one good point he makes is that most people build their own jail. for example they build themselves a mcmansion somewhere in suburbia for hundreds of thousands of dollars with fancy furniture and vehicles and what not and then they are dependent on a high salary to pay off this crap. If you lost your 100K job in the recession you were not able to pay your mcmansion mortgage anymore and taking a burger flipper job would be a catastrophe for you. the problem is also often that they cannot get rid of their "investment" in bad times because they would not get the price they paid for it, so they are locked out of moving to a place with better job prospects.

but if you lived out of your truck then the burger flipper job will cover your monthly gas and food costs and you might put away savings for car repairs and upgrades in the future while also having the privilege of being able to move towards wherever the jobs are in a couple of days. so a new oil rig opens in texas you just say goodbye to your urban restaurant job and start somewhere new

here from his kilroy cafe:
http://kilroycafe.com/
http://kilroycafe.com/ideas/taste/

here he describes a phenomenon he named
>taste inflation
basically whenever your income or perceived wealth increases, you are likely to scale your consumption behaviour towards your financial limit until none of that perceived wealth is left over for you in the end

for example you get a high paid silicon valley job but since your fancy hipster appartement in a gentrified artsy quarter of town costs 1500$ and your daily cup of morning coffee costs 8$ and all the other hip and cool stuff you buy eats up all your salary. and any end of year bonus you might have gotten for a good project will be blown for a new sports car or boat which will generate monthly costs for you to pay forever.

In some other article he also made a nice comparison. He compared the modern home to a museum that people built their entire lives. They are not living life as whatever they like to do but instead they become museum curators and builders for their entire life. The house they own ends up owning them.

From a practical perspective it is right. If you have 1 bedroom a kitchen and a bathroom you will not spend much time cleaning up your place. Heating costs will be lower too. But once you have a 12 bedroom mansion you will have to find a maid to keep it from sinking into dust remember that batman movie with bane where christian bale comes from a long travel into his home and all furniture is cloaked in white cloths to avoid getting dust there and you will have to hire some gardener to prevent your garden from becoming a little jungle

Or in one entry on his "things you don't need" blog he wrote down how unnecessary dish washers are.
If you really think about it he is right. You could easily just take the plate, glass and utensils you used for your meal and clean them right away in the sink and let them dry for use in a few hours again.
Instead we add a machine into this equation which in turn creates a new layer of bureaucracy about who has to do the dishes at what time of the week which in turn is perfect breeding ground for conflicts between everyone involved in that bureaucracy.

Today I will read more how exactly he set himself up for this nomad life. I know he has a postal box in las vegas but I wonder how he does all the other bureaucracy stuff. Like, don't you need a valid adress to have a bank account?

not sure if this is the one you mean but Glenn used a college library in San Diego as his office and he would post on his blog from there. I mean the lady on the counter cannot possibly know if he is a student or not. that is the good thing about campuses.
also toilet facilities are kept clean every day there and if they have a gym, there will likely be a shower too.

Video from youtube shows another interesting guy I found back then on youtube. He one day just said fuck it, packed his van and drove to Los Angeles to become a music producer or whatever he does. I watched a few newer videos and he seems to have found a group of fellow artists and they seem to have gotten themselves a house now. I wonder if they are a hip hop crew in the making.
There are many other videos on youtube about people like that.

Back to Glenn
So I have been reading his blog now from start to end and I noticed some things with his way of life.
The problem I see is that he is not really off grid. He does have some sort of income more or less regularly that allows him to rent cars, motel rooms or buy disposable sleeping bags at wall mart with. I think buying stuff and then constantly throwing it away is not a very smart thing to do even if it is only 10$.
He has a yearly subscription at a fitness center and it allows him to use their showers and warm jaccuzzi tub in the winters.

Most of the time he spends in the deserts around Las Vegas. He has a spot on federal land where he drives to with his rental car. He sets up an air matress and slips in his sleeping bag and just sleeps in the open.
Deserts have no rain and no mosquitos so he can sleep rather well. If it gets too cold outside or in case of rain he just stays inside his car overnight.

Him having a car at disposal of course helps him cut down his equipment down to 10 dollar air matresses and sleeping bags. The cheap tents he uses are more like anti mosquito mesh nets and do not have to withstand rain. This is why he can use this cheap throw away crap. In case it does not work out, he just spends the night in the car or at motel 6. He usually tells himself that a new 10$ sleeping bag is still cheaper then a 40$ motel room.

While he has some useful tips, I don't think this is the solution for most people here. It is just a too wasteful system.
For example what I think from a money perspective is that spending money on rental cars and camping equipment could also be spent on an appartement. However for people who have some type of job/income and need their car to get to work anyways, car dwelling could be an oppurtunity to cut away rent completely and spend that money on whatever else you want (travel, savings, investments, etc)
But what I like about his approach is his flexibility and how he cuts out everything non-necessary away. For example he does not cook, he goes to buffets and stuffs himself every few days and buys only dry food as snacks or emergency provisions on him.
If you don't have a kitchen, you don't need gas, knives etc.

The big problem I see with this lifestyle is that you don't have an adress so you cannot renew your passport, open a bank account or do anything that requires an address. also if you need insurence for your car or repairs, those can be big bills at once. The next problem would be if you need to renew your driver's license or if your driver's license is taken away from you for whatever reason.
Gas is not free either and the more you drive, the more it costs you. If you get an offroad vehicle it will use more gas even.
Sure these obstacles can all be overcome, but you need to think of a way for it first. It needs preparation and cannot be done just like that.

For van living. I saw a few very fancy vans with even kitches toilets and showers. I mean normies spend like 40 grand on a van and then probably even more to customize it into their camping mobile with sometimes even boilers and solar panels and what not. And when the car breaks apart you can throw it all in the trash. In general, getting a custom solution is usually more expensive then to just stick with something factory produced.
And if your van crosses the warranty period, you can just trade it in for a brand new one while you still get a good price for the old one. So instead of repairs you get a new van every few years.

If I ever tried something like this, I would probably just get the cheapest van I can find, put an air matress inside, get a sleeping bag, blanket and pillow and keep my clothes in a samsonite. Maybe some water canisters for emergencies and that's it. For showers, you can register at a gym but that limits you geographically where you can stay. The other solution is to just move from town to town and stay a few days everywhere and just use the public swimming pools. For clothes you can either use laundromats or buy cheap clothes and keep them until they are smelly only.

Of course your van has shit insulation so in cold or hot weather you are at the mercy of the climate. But that means you just have to drive to whatever warmest climate you have available to you. For Americans it would usually mean southern california and florida for the winter months. The good thing about the USA is that everything is in the same jurisdiction with the perfect climate type for every time of year.
The europeans would most likely spend the winters in spain portugal or greece. you could even take the ferry to the canary islands from cadiz. I also read moroccoo lets you stay visa free for up to 90 days so that would be an adventure on its own. also it would have the much desired desert climate without rain and insects like in nevada. I doubt anyone cared if you set up camp in the desert or parked your car on desert land. It likely belongs to nobody anyways

there is generally 2 types of people doing this

this one seems to be one from that group:

Wow, i'm very ipressed by that homeless guy that moved to LA, i like hearing stories of someone following thier dreams and refusing to wageslave.
Wageslavery kills the desire to try new things or better yourself, the other normworkers drag you down, that's why that always ask what you do in your spare time, to see if you are trying to better yourself and you better watch out if you are.
I would say this has inspired me, but i think it has more inspired a past me, before the hermit misanthropy sunk in deep.

Wanderlust is a common thing among wizardly types. You know that you don't have a real home, and that your existence now is hollow and disposable. I think we desire to start over, to both mentally and physically depart from our current situation and try to find some place that you can make yours. Somewhere that you're not sure exists, but will keep searching for.

>cold, criminal and police
the desert is your solution
no humans there, dry and as long as you have a sleeping bag, you will be warm enough for the night
but the problem is you need to get there so you need a car unless you like walking from where you get your water and food every day with all your equipment on bag

>why do i have this obsession?

I think I know the answer. Same thing is true for criminals also. You know that you do not belong to any place. So you come to a new place, try to set up yourself but soon you find out that you don't belong there and vanish one day without telling anyone. I think it has to do with trying to run away from yourself.

>>171553
I admire him for his boldness to drive across the country and just be there do his thing even if he had nothing there. He said he could get a job at some mcdonalds or dunkin donuts for a wage and then he could afford to "exist" in LA but he would not be doing what he came for there in the first place. In a sense, his hard situation has also pushed him into a corner and pressured him to find ways how to sustain himself and apparently he does video editing and sells youtube merchandise. So this extreme situation activated his survival instinct to do something to get ahead.
If you sit in your comfy bedroom and have no worries, there is little incentive to do anything about it. Why, you have it comfy after all ..

Glenn also describes in one of his philosophy essays that the smelly homeless are just people who are very passive people and gave up completely at life and you cannot suggest them solutions or give tips because they already gave up themselves completely. While the invisible homeless are people who are still somewhat functional and always seek out to find new or better solutions.
The smelly homeless are people who have lost or never had the ability to take care of themselves. Once they were in mental wards but since those were closed in the 80s, we have them on the streets instead. Now San Fran has a giantic poop on the sidewalks problem. Government pays either way for it ..

>the other normworkers drag you down

you know it all comes down to basically crabs in a bucket mentality:
>why can this lazy bum slack off entire day and do whatever the fuck he wishes to while I waste my life in this office?
Huckleberry Finn was my hero when I was a kid. Tom Sawywer had to waste his day at the school but huck lived in his tree house and appreared to live the adventure life every day.

I also watched a doc movie about a group of hippies in La Gomera on the Canary islands. They occupied a cave on the coast and lived there peacefully minding their own business. Until one day some old lady snitched on them
>but we have rules here, they cannot just not follow the rules
hence the laws about "wild camping"
You cannot be allowed to use some unused part of coast to spend your 7 hours of unconsciousness there
They want you to pay 100€ per night in a hotel room of which 20€ will land in the pockets of govts (VAT)

>>171554
>So how does Glen insure his car in the first place?
From reading his blog, he seems to be homeless even today.
He does not seem to own a car but rather he rents out cars for a week or so. His credit card covers the insurance of the car. He has a storage room in Las Vegas and a postal box in Las Vegas but he uses family or friends sometimes too for receiving govt stuff post.
Also good thing about having a health club or fitness subscription that has offices in many different cities. So you could use them wherever you may come to.

>How does he do so much travelling? (83 countries)

He is a former airline employee and he could fly on standby for free. Standby means if a seat is not sold to a customer he gets it for free.
That helped him to travel basically for free between 2007 and 2011. He only paid for hostels food and camping stuff. Then his status ran out.
Ever since he does not get free air fare but he just hiked the rates for his transportation service. This is one way he earns money. The other is doing photography (stock photos, videos), writing, internet bloggery and the like. I assume he goes out to a new destination, spends a good time there and takes home a few photos that can generate ads revenue

>Does he store his car near the airport or something?

He appears to use rental cars. He gets them for 200$ a week and says it is still cheaper then a motel room. When he has work to do the customers are basically giving him a car to drive for free, paying him for it on top and he sleeps on truck stops or motels on the way. Then he obviously needs no rental car in that time. I think he cleverly times his gigs like fly to NY, move a car to FL, take the next customer there, move his pet to TX and so on. Logistics companies are doing the same and always trying to never let their trucks drive without cargo.

The doc movie was about an austrian millenial.
She lived there as a hippie for like a year with 5000 euros (clearly overstaying her tourist visa)
the name of the place was
>caves of Valle Gran Rey, La Gomera
there was a hippie movement about this in the 60s even and in the doc movie everything went fine until they were snitched on by some lady
the Spanish are notorious for their non toleration of wild campers along the coastlines. They use helicopters to track you and evict you if they find you
This is why I think Spain might not be a good solution after all

Maroc is a 3rd world country but that also means that food is cheap and most of their country is desert. I doubt anyone gave a flying fuck about you camping in the desert. The only real problem there is not getting your van stolen.
About Maroc I also read that you can simply renew your visa for another 90 days just by driving over the border to ceuta (spanish territory on african soil) and just driving back. They don't really care how long you stay as long as you don't cause trouble and have money with you

Far Away in the south I saw an interesting town like Dakhla or something. The climate there is similar to Canary islands but they have lots of wind there (they offer windsurfing to tourists there).
It seems to be the last real town before the desert highway to mauritania

I also read that on the southern most edge of western sahara there is a ghost town right at the ocean
It was an old spanish fort for fishers and Maroc troops abandonned the land there in the western sahara war. They just said it is a shitty territorry that always gets sunk in new sand and they have no interest to project power there so they left. Right on the other side of the peninsula is the city of Nouadibou (Mauritania)

You can get there by the Western Sahara highway and wikipedia says most EU citizens get visa easily
However, I read that you can not cross over to the other side of the peninsula to where this ghost town is. It seems like militans have taken control of the town.
But imagine if you could. It is basically a no-man's land. An entire ghost town just for you.
Just drive to Nouadibou for water and food every few days and you are good to set up camp there forever as long as the militans don't kidnap you.

>If you can show me some videos of Canary cave dwelling i would be more up for that though, then i can grow coconuts at least.

no the hippies don't even do that
that austrian succubus went there with money but some of the hippies have been living there for years
they fund their stay basically through all the other tourists that come every year. They play music on guitars or sell hand made art at the street. But I think if you had some form of passive income, even if only 200€ per month, you could survive there in one of these caves. Of course the government does not like it. If you stay there, they want you to pay for hotels or hostels to give them some money. Even if you buy your own food and what not.

 No.171609

>>171581
Look, I admire Glenn very much about how careless he is and just does this shit.
But the problem with how he does it is that he has a more or less steady income to depend on. Even if that is small, he can afford to buy all this camping crap and just throw it away if necessary. When you are dead broke, this will not work. Also the other question is what is cheaper on the long run? flying to a nicer climate or driving?
Driving has advantages of course. Your car/van is a natural protection against wind, rain and snow, so you don't need a tent to set up for the night. But the problem of the car/van is that you are bulky. People will easily spot you if you park where you are not permitted to. So to be perfectly safe you would need a parking space you paid for.

I thought the entire week how to make this work what he does. I mean, let's suppose you have a van. Even if you don't need to insure your car and if your car is a lucky one that needs no repairs for long. You need money for gas. So what can you do for money? In a world where getting any type of work is ever increasingly hard.

I mean, you are mobile. You are flexible. This is the selling point of small companies that big companies don't have. Big companies have very efficient processes. Everything is optimized and cheap. But they are really bad at taking work really fast when someone needs it quick. And usually those companies are not really interested in micro orders. For example they charge you based on their standardized volumes and don't care if you don't need it for the entire time or for the entire volume.

So, theoretically you could start a transportation company to earn money for niche markets. Move shit from one place to another, if possible chain gigs from one town to another or optimize your tours to never drive empty. List ads online and wait for work. There is always someone in need of moving some crap to somewhere else. Students, singles who move to a new appartement or maybe some hip startup that needs to transport a very important cargo for one of their customers and needs someone to do it ASAP. You could offer a VIP express service like "order before 3 AM and I am at your logistics hub in 7AM to pick the cargo up" and charge top dollar for it. Or maybe even food deliveries in cities. People are so lazy they don't even want to drive to McD anymore.

So you could optimize your entire possessions to fit in one big sports bag and just keep this in your car. When you are on work, you keep it on the passenger seat if there is no space in your van. When on the road you can sleep at highway rest stations for a night or blow up your air matress and sleep in your sleeping bag a little away from the road. Or alternatively you could offer airport transportation for people with lots of luggage. Like if they have 2 sports bag, 1 cage with dog and one with a cat. Or for people who want to drive somewhere with equipment. Like camera teams who carry recording equipment or something. Of course you would not get rich doing such oddjobs but when you have no other costs then gas and the occasional shower or motel night, you could make it work.

This would be the one method. The other would be to just roam from one small town to another and look for oddjobs.
Like you move to some small town and spend the first night at the motel. You shower, dress up and then ask what jobs they have in this town. Usually everyone knows each other and people can point you to where they need help.
>oh yes, Johnny from the sawmill needs help right now, go there and tell him Will sent you there
If there is no work available you just enjoyed your stay, saw some new stuff and can move to the next town.
Like a never ending road movie

The other problem I see with this is the question about what the fuck you would do entire day if there is no work for you and it is winter. Usually winter will not kill you as long as you are clothed warmly. But the cold is nasty. Its only advantage is that there is no insects and spiders in winter, so you don't have to worry about mosquito nets for half a year. And you could warm up at public swimming pools or spa centers, fitness centers and the likes for a few hours. But the rest of the day you need to spend somewhere. Malls could be a nice warm place to spend the day at. They might even have free wifi and parking for customers. Malls also tend to have nice bath rooms. The thing that the other homeless guy mentions (the teen runaway) is museums and cinemas. Cinemas are nice in summer because they are usually cooled and you can take a nap if you don't like the film. But museums you can only visit once and then you know what they have there and it will not be interesting anymore.

>well, if winter is a problem for you, just drive south

that works for americans and australians very well because their countries span different climates. If you live in Sweden you can drive down to Malmö and still freeze your ass entire winter. The Swedish modern nomad would have to drive south to Cote Azure, southern Spain and Portugal. He would have to pay 100s of euros of gas and there he would be at the mercy of local police. As a tourist you are foreign in the land you are currently in and they have the right to kick you out whenever they like if you don't behave. Because you know, everyone can see his van and if you park where you are not allowed to, they will tow it or fine you. Also you need a place to take a shower because in winter you cannot bathe in the atlantic in Portugal. I think a possibility would be to hop from town to town and stay 2 or 3 nights per town but always at some other place. However, I imagine the cost for fuel would be immense for driving around constantly and I wonder if it would be more price efficient to take a flight to portugal and stealth camp in the bushes at night.

>where do I park my car

probably where one would expect a car to be parked
so a van in the middle of the night next to some forest path would be very suspicious to anyone who drives past
but a car parked in front of a 24h wall mart or home improvement store would be expected there
also in smaller towns it is more likely that parking spots are free of charge because smaller towns tend to have enough space while cities are always crowded and they need to charge for parking to motivate people to go by foot or bicycle
Probably some home improvement store or gardening store in the outskirts of town would offer free parking to customers and you could use it overnight and just move on before dawn

Probably the biggest risk I see in the van life is when they tow your van or take away your driver's license for whatever reason.
Being a freeparker you will probably give them enough reason to fine you. Once you have a few fines, they will find eventually something more grave to charge you with and take your driver's license away. Then you would be fucked royally.
Here again the question is is it cost efficient to buy a van, gas and insurance for it if you never earn money from transportation work and just live in your van. You could also just stealth camp near an airport, use the airport toilets every now and then and travel south whenever it gets too cold for your taste.

God damn. I don't care much for hippies but being so close to the sacred ocean is the closest I can think of being to paradise on this hellish world.
It provides everything. A more stable climate, the perfect water to bathe in, even a source of food. And to me, it is the closest you can get to the divine. That video reminded me of one that might have been posted more than a few times here before, but I will show anyway:

Saw this documentary years back and it inspired me greatly. Basically some old nameless Japanese man that had given up on wordly affairs retired to a secluded island somewhere off the coast of Japan, where he lives (or lived) naked and completely alone. Must watch for anyone who hasn't seen.
It's no wonder it is said the famous Kūkai achieved enlightenment while living in a cave and staring at the sky meeting the ocean.

Your definition of "comfy" is impermanent like all things. It too changes, your situation in life will alter what you think is "comfy" drastically. There can be comfort found even in the most bleak of circumstances, as long as you don't try to cling on to the past and your pre-conceived ideas.
But if you're thinking of the warmth, safety, privacy and comfort of your idealized bedroom, you will probably find no such thing.
It comes in other ways though, other ways that you can not presently imagine. For example: An image of you, completely alone, somewere foreign and far, far away might be a frightful thought in your present situation, but if the same you was walking in different shoes that image might be a source of breath-taking bliss and freedom the likes you've only dreamed of.

It's official. The relative's basement tap is dry. There is no social assistance that I qualify for here. There are no jobs to be found. These streets are dangerous. No abandoned buildings remain. Churches are closed. No enclosed vehicle is in my name. I have 30 days left of living alone in a full house with water, food, heat, and highspeed internet. Total homelessness is guaranteed for me now after that point, there's no escaping it. It's not something I fear. It's a necessary step in building a better life for myself. All I need to pay is $1250 to cover the final month of rent (which my landlord has graciously let me be as late as I need to be one). Then I need to buy some thermal underlayers, gloves, and emergency blankets to combat the cold. Finally I'll need a large rucksack to carry essentials such as blankets, additional emergency insulation, and water+food for days at a time as I will be traversing rural for the most part. I'm also likely going to take a plane out to where I wish to settle down which could run about $150 if I also buy a separate duffel bag to luggage my gear, all assuming flights are still happening. I will also need to rent a storage unit to keep on to my material goods which I can't just trash. Much of it is waifu material and childhood stuff, knick knacks, some with a bit of resale value. A small fortune in firearms and ammo. It all adds up to only a closet full though and I've already packed it away in bins. It will be willed to my cousin who becomes a full-fledged Wizard this year. I will prepay for a year's worth of the unit.

The Governmental Covidbux that I've been collecting illegally should cover all of this. Hopefully what I must order online ships in a timely manner. As a safety net I've also opened a credit card from my bank which is good for I think $1,000. Anything I need to buy with that can be payed off with later covidbux installments. There's about $6,900 left for me to collect from the bux unless they extend it. I've also got some stuff to sell (appliances, computer, some video games) which will only depreciate in value and take up space in the unit so I'm selling them at a steal.

The vast majority of my equipment will be to keep me warm and allow me to sleep. I plan to dumpster dive, beg, or even work for food, but my main goal upon landing will be to essentially hibernate through the winter while also staying mobile. I will be bringing a small camera with massive battery+storage capacity, and if I have money to spare I will also buy a small Tablet PC that can be drawn on and used for general communication. I don't expect to be able to utilize my fingers in the cold but when I do enter towns I will get use out of any open cafes, laundromats, and other services where I can sit down and unwind. I plan to log my experience for anyone interested to see.

There is an incredibly high chance I will freeze to death. There is a high chance I will wind up arrested or institutionalized for some reason. There is a moderate chance I will pussy out and end up in a homeless shelter working in a factory. There is a low chance I will actually find a rent-to-own house and present myself in a well enough manner amidst a scamdemic to acquire a shot at living there. There is an no chance that my family will return the money they stole from me, which totals to enough to buy a house where I am going.

There's a lot that I could plan better and I will not stop finding ways to increase my chances of survival, but few things are certain: I WILL be homeless, and I WONT be homeless in the province I am now. I WILL document my travels somewhat so that when I DO die from the cold, others can learn from my mistakes.

I'm excited. Not because I'll be going on some grand adventure, doing something "chaddish" and discovering meaning to life. I'm excited because no matter where I go or what happens, as of January 31st, I will never breath in the presence of my family again. All I will have to worry about from that point on are practical problems with practical solutions. No family = No drama, no emotions, no judgement, no worries. Leaving them is something I planned to do right after my mother died but I lacked a platform to get things together then, but now I've got all the resources I need and adequate time to prepare. I can finally start living a human life instead of just existing for others. They say hypothermia is a peaceful, warm, and almost euphoric death, Then again, so is dying of old age in a warm bed surrounded by your anime figurines. I'll experience at least one, so I am excited.

Yeah, Southern Ontario. It's gotten impossible for a single male to live on his own down here. Social assistance has refused me help, the price of everything is rising, and the whole culture down here has shifted. Infrastructure is flat-out crumbling. Bachelor apartments are now retirement communities. Public transit costs more than driving and has become unreliable. Any kind of insurance is through the roof. Little things particular to this part of the country have been chipping away at me for years and I'm not going to struggle trying to get a footing in what is essentially cold California. This whole social-credit vaccine situation has me worried too and I imagine the GTA and surrounding cities will be the first to get hit.

I plan to fly to either Regina, Saskatoon, or Winnipeg and head south from their. There's highly affordable living throughout all of Saskatchewan and Manitoba and hopefully the government there will be more helpful.

>>175493
It's actually $,1650 a month, plus utilities, plus water heater rental, and bring your own washer/dryer. I just payed $400 already and will let the bills follow me. It's a three bedroom townhouse with a basement and a garage. I rented it with my family but then they vanished with all my savings after I had payed 6 months of it all on my own. The landlord said the housing market is on the start of a rise so when I move out she's bumping it to $1800-something. The only places I can find for under $1400 are bachelor apartments that have yet to be converted to retirement communities, but it's such a competitive market that owners spell out clearly that they only consider families, couples, or medical workers. A room in someone's basement shared with 4 other people and their guests+pets will run $700/month. I've spent the last 4 years looking for solo accommodation, switching between living on my own to with family. It's definitely gotten harder all of a sudden.

Yeah, been homeless in FL.

It's a big state and how the homeless are treated vares from place to place.
The main difference is you are significantly less likely to freeze to death during the winter and hitchhiking is really hard in fl so you should try to get a bike or friend with a car if you aren't in the city.

Also the bugs can be next level bad during the warmer months.
That said I was able to earn my way off the streets in FL.

Man, there's so many stupid ideas about your plan I don't even know where to start… If you have a death wish you might as well say it.

>planning on moving to the Canadian prairies to be homeless, in winter

Absolutely the most retarded thing you can do. Not only is it a barren, frozen shithole but you'll have to deal with the native drunks and junkies that infest both SK and MB. If you run out of money there you won't be making it anywhere on foot. Don't do this.
Might as well try for the west coast and enjoy above freezing temperatures. Just steer clear of Vancouver since that shithole city is also infested with hordes of the nastiest homeless crackheads in Canada. Prices on the west coast are also sky high so it'd difficult to get off the streets. If I was you I'd probably head East into either Quebec or the maritime provinces.

Secondly, CRB is supposed to continue until Sep 2011 last time I checked and virtually any Canadian citizen can get approved for it after completing an application that literally takes 5 min. That means $900 every two weeks until then. You do however require to keep filing for it every two weeks, so make sure you have internet access.

Thirdly, I'd strongly recommend you get your head straight and at least opt for purchasing a shitty van or something, ANYTHING that you can live in instead of going on the streets in winter.
You say you have a small fortune in guns and ammunitions yet you choose to hoard it in unused storage and risk your life on the streets instead of selling it and getting yourself set up with the money? Ridiculous, get your head on straight.
Another option would be to not pay the landlord and just get out of there in the middle of the night.

Your current plan is terrible and you won't get far. All your stuff in storage will end up at an auction or in the trash when you eventually stop making payments and don't show up to collect them.

>Man, there's so many stupid ideas about your plan I don't even know where to start… If you have a death wish you might as well say it.
Death is something I expect. It's not what I want, but I understand it's what I will face. If I stay here I will either die among other idiots or perpetuate this shitty existence of working 10 hours a day every day just to meet basic living expenses. At least out there it'll be either I die alone in peace or find a place to live that CRB/Welfare can cover entirely on its own.

>planning on moving to the Canadian prairies to be homeless, in winter

When I say head south I mean to the literal desert at the border. It's colder than Ontario sure but I'm not facing the tundra here. The prairies, especially the south, have coach bus lines that span the north/south roads so I doubt I'll be stranded anywhere. SK and MB have oil, mining, railway, and other manual labour jobs that I can work at to extend my existence in the unlikely event that I do settle down. The whole idea of going there came from such industries actually setting up offices in South Ontario where untrained men would go to get shipped out for work. If these industries are desperate enough to buy Ontario junkies I imagine they'll accept an application from a clean SK/MB local. If I'm wrong I die.

>native drunks and junkies that infest both SK and MB

That's why I'm aiming for the prairies, because there is space enough to avoid the junkies. When I lived in rural Ontario every small patch of forest, most old barns, and even random fields had hobo tents. The city I'm in now is in official states of homeless crisis, opioid crisis, and street violence crisis. I imagine any all-white town will most likely be free of at least one of these issues. I'm also considering the future.

>Might as well try for the west coast and enjoy above freezing temperatures. Just steer clear of Vancouver since that shithole city is also infested with hordes of the nastiest homeless crackheads in Canada.

BC is just as expensive to live as Ontario if not more. The whole province is a tourism attraction with bears as a bonus. I'm not too enthusiastic about scaling mountains either. Housing prices in the developed areas are also sky high so it'd difficult to get off the streets. It's no different from Muskoka and surounding areas. Yeah all the buildings are shacks rotting to the ground, there' no infrastructure and you'd be hard pressed to find a loaf of bread for under five dollars, but despite this all it's still "pretty cottage country" and therefore reserved for only the richest.
>If I was you I'd probably head East into either Quebec or the maritime provinces.
That was something I considered but the cost of living is higher there than in the central provinces. I don't speak French and the Atlantic coast is worse in winter than where I am headed. There are fewer modern cities where I can bum around in temporarily if the rural nothingness gets too much to bear.

>CRB

That's what I'm collecting now. The service states it's only good for 12k before 10% tax and I've already collected nearly half of it. If I survive through the next two months of winter with minimal expenses and continue collecting into the spring I should walk away with at least 5k, more than enough for a down payment on a house in rural SK. If they introduce an extension of alternate form of free government money, then all the better.

>opt for purchasing a shitty van or something, ANYTHING that you can live in instead of going on the streets in winter.

That was the plan years ago, with a schoolbus. Unfortunately through bad decisions on my part as well as flat out being fucked over by my family and a driving school, I'm still without a G2 license.

>risk your life on the streets instead of selling it and getting yourself set up with the money? Ridiculous, get your head on straight.

Much of it is for sale. If it sells before I move out, all the better, otherwise it's going in to the storage unit to either sell later or be held on to again in the unlikely chance I find a home.

>Another option would be to not pay the landlord and just get out of there in the middle of the night.

I'm not black so I won't do that. The landlord has been very understanding of my situation and has done me favors throughout this ordeal. The utility bills following my name is one thing but skipped rent warrants court dates, which introduces police intervention if I evade. I'm paying the rent to keep a monkey off my back.

>All your stuff in storage will end up at an auction or in the trash when you eventually stop making payments and don't show up to collect them.

Yes

>>175504
>Get rid of the stupid waifu shit too. Should have given those kids toys away in like high school.
What would you prefer I be interested in? If I said I had bongs and rap CDs would your attitude towards keeping a single box of them in storage change?

>Lugging around a bunch of stuff will make you such an easy target.

I think I mentioned only packing enough to keep warm and hold food/water. I don't plan or larping as some survivalist and going in to the wild with cookware and woodworking tools. If there are people who will steal my one camera and tablet, then I'll just have to avoid them.

>Unless you're a multimillionaire or a politician, you can't just hop on planes and fly off at the moment.

Really? Because all booking places are still selling affordable tickets for in-country travel, and then there are trains and buses too.

>That guy probably won't even make it to the streets he'll probably just off himself like a bitch.

Why are you even posting? You talk like a nigger and seem to assume everyone else is too.

If you want to make yourself feel better by calling me a retard and taking bets on how painfully I'll die, go ahead, but don't try to convince me to do things YOUR WAY if YOUR WAY is also based on things you only THINK might be better. If you were homeless to any extent, then maybe your advice is worth anything, but it seems as if users around here have a natural inclination to be contrarian to every aspect of someone's plan just so they have a reason to post. I've been planning this in the back of my head since 2016 and have been relating everything I've done since to my future homelessness somehow. This isn't something I'm mentally unprepared for. I'm a semisuicidal idiot that will die, but if that's how it is then that's just how it is. If there's even a slight chance I can come out of it, settle down, and explain how I managed to land myself a stable and comfy life with minimal outside influence to other young men who are looking for a way out, then there's good reason to go through with it. Hilarious idea considering they let me go to foster care. I'm sure that idea will pan out.

My plan is to live in the woods with adequate supplies to avoid all of the trash humans in the city. I just don't have funding until I murder my parents of which will likely be stressful and I don't even know where they hide the cash, someone might hear screams and I might not have time to find it.

But anyway, you can't just choose to live with your relatives. I live with my mentally ill parents but the rest of the family refused me even at age 11 to live with them when I was put into foster care. The nuclear family in the USA is not like it is in third world nations. There are also not really any job opportunities here.

>Anyone have tips for homeless shelters?
Generally only a good idea if it is below freezing and you don't have a place to squat out of the elements.

Otherwise I wouldn't actually stay in one.
My exp with them was limited because I was mostly traveling while homeless so didn't stick around long enough even if I wanted to get in since most have waiting list, with single males always being last on the list.

So the few times I stayed in one was just for the night and just because it was code blue warnings in effect (meaning it was below freezing and could easily be fatal to sleep outside).
Every second I was there I was worried about my shit getting stolen. Thankfully my paranoia payed off and I wasn't stolen from, but other people who were paying less attention did get their shit stolen.
So yeah you got to keep your wits about you.

Did manage to get a quick shower and wash my hair at one place so that was nice.

Nah, the places you should instead keep a eye out for are places that give out food and other goodies to the homeless. Those places you just line up, sometimes give some basic info about yourself if you want, then get a meal or other supplies.
Such places will totally keep you alive and well fed even if you don't have two pennies to rub together. They also don't care if you are crazy or use drugs, unlike the shelters, as long as you aren't disruptive or violent.

You get your own room and space so you can be away from others but also come outside and relax within a nice garden.
The staff are very nice and understanding of you even if sometimes normalfag advice.
>cons
They try to make you socialize and will make you take turns cleaning and cooking as you would in a normal homeless place but you get extra help because suffering mental illness.
You have to get taken shopping because they force you and you go on these outings with other mentally ill people plus some of them might be mentally retarded and it can be annoying.
You have to deal with actual retards who eat all your food or just annoy the fuck out of you.
People may become psychotic/manic and break shit and make a lot of noise.

This is my first time on this site in many years. I randomly thought of it again, visited it, and stumbled across this thread. I was homeless from Nov 2018 to April 2019, primarily in Montreal, although a bit in other parts Quebec/Ontario. I may have some insight.

First, reach out for help. I did not do this. I did not, and still don't, have any family or friends. But the world is not as cruel as it sometimes appears. Go to a church, community center, even a coffee shop and you will find people who will help you, especially if you are somewhat young. All you need to do is ask. There are plenty of middle-aged and old people with decent money, nothing to spend it on, and mostly-good hearts.

Secondly, survival/comfort will be infinitely more difficult without a car. I had a car, and you can survive -25 degree nights just by wearing all of your clothes in a car. I would wear 8 t-shirts, 3 sweatshirts and every jacket that I owned, 2 toques, 2 gloves, wool socks, and put myself in an extra-long sleeping bag that I would wrap over my head while reclined in the car's driver's seat. On especially cold nights, you can even keep the engine running to warm yourself. I never did this, as it would cost 1/4 of a tank of gas per night. There are many other tips I could give, such as getting an ice scraper to scrape your breath off the inside of the windows once you wake up, as your breath will freeze on them. Also, any blankets you have need to be wool, moisture from your breath will collect on any cotton near your mouth and make it wet, making it colder (as well as smellier). I know that you said you only have a G2 driver's license. That's still enough insure/license a car. A car allows you to move, it allows you some privacy, it provides a place to store your stuff. The condition doesn't matter, you are getting $900 every 2 weeks; just that is enough to buy something that barely runs, which is enough.

The gym-shower tip is well-known. They have Econofitness in Ontario, I think it's $10 a month, and most of them have showers.

Food banks. I found a place that would give a large and hearty meal for $2, 5 days a week. That one meal was mostly enough for me, the other food I would buy was off the discount shelf at Walmart.

I spent a lot of time in libraries and Tim Hortons as well; they are both good places if you have nothing to do.

One final thing. In general, I did not find myself less happy while homeless. There were a few very dark moments of deep sobbing at night in my car; these moments rarely happen now. But my baseline happiness was the same; I am a firm believer in the hedonic treadmill, so I am just saying that you will probably not do too badly. At the very least you will gain some experience and knowledge.

All the best

That seems pretty straight forward: The less signs of human activity (garbage, paths, etc) the better.

 No.176186

That bug was patched long ago in developed countries. Now when you rent storage space, the owners will have you sign a contract acknowledging that they're land maintainers, not land lords. They throw in a no-loitering clause as a bonus. This all makes it illegal for you to pay someone for the right to live on land they own which is not suited to support a human life. All for "your safety".

I don't want to be homeless. I can't take care of myself. Just the idea of cutting my own hair or having a conversation terrifies me. My whole life has been carried by my parents.

But I know that homelessness is coming. It's a the edge of the waterfall that I will eventually fall over and drown. But there's absolutely nothing I can do about it. Totally paralyzed. All I can do is just wait and stare and think

 No.176326

If you're homeless, how do you escape it? If you're a true wizard then you aren't going to have any skills for the type of work that pays enough money to afford shelter, or even have friends to stay with while you try to get back on your feet. And what if your family kicks you out because you're severely mentally ill with no job and no hope for a better future? Do you just fuck off into the woods and die? These are the real questions here.

24 hours until I embark on my quest to go away, wizards. Been sleeping on a cot in a relative's house for the past week. Everything is in storage except for my camera, phone, tablet, and the bits and pieces of winter gear I could cram in to a hiking sack. I'm very excited and satisfied with my decision. My family thinks I got a job and have rented a room in some basement. I have been faking phonecalls and emails so they have no reason to suspect that whenever whichever one of them drops me off for my first shift tomorrorow, it will be the last time any of them ever see me. It will be tough and I certainly could have done more to prepare, but it's a better option than wageslaving under the current situation.

Thanx for the support and warm wished, wizards. I ended up walking 14km with my gear before settling down. The walk was easy and I enjoyed listening to music with no people around. It was 01:30 so peak darkness and cold. I tried to set up the tent but I was tired and the ground was frozen so it was just hanging.

I am astounded by how poorly insulated I was. I was expecting a chilly but passable sleep, but I only slept for maybe 3 of the 14 hours that I was down. It was painfully cold Even with wool socks, a nylar blanket wrapped around my feet and held in place with a strap, two 7x5' 100% wool blankets, thermal full body underwear, a tshirt, two hooded sweaters, snowmobile gloves, and a winter parka, all within a larger emergency sleeping bag and in a tent. I was convinced the bivvies alone could make for a passable sleep but boy was I wrong. It wasn't even that cold out, maybe minus 10. Condensation from my breath created a thin sheet of ice that would fall on to my face when the wind blew. I will definately need to purchase a proper sleeping bag and ground liner. The one time I did get cozy was broken because I had to pee but in attempting to do so in to a bottle (add 'it's cold outside' to the reasons wizards pee in bottles) my legs cramped up and hurt bad. As uncomfortable as it was, getting out of bed was the worst part. Beats getting out of a cozy bed to go do a job though.

I am on my way to hospital now. I left everything set up where it was. I will contact the Homeless Men's shelter to inquire about a bed until I get a better sleep system.

I brought Gondola along because he travels a lot so maybe he can teach me a thing or two

Dude, this was a bad idea, you're so lucky it was only minus 10, and not minus 20 or lower. I seriously hope you actually are gonna go through with all of this, you can't back out now.

You're totally gonna die, or have to get your fingers or toes amputated, no joke.

The fact you brought your stupid little toy along with you shows you didn't take any of this shit serious. So even though you have medical needs to be taken care of before, you just decided to go on your homeless journey anyways? What makes you so certain you'll get a bed reserve? I have such a bad feeling that this will blow up in your face, like you lied to your family and didn't let them now where you're going or what you're gonna do if you get in trouble.

I seriously hope this is one big LARP and you didn't actually sleep outside like that, like wow, what happens if you run into muggers and they pull a knife on you, or if someone finds you and tells the police? Lugging all that shit is gonna be such a pain in the ass and tiresome, that you'll maybe just end up getting it stolen, or just dumping it off somewhere. You'll be living proof that wizards in these homeless threads are just delusional and should just be grateful to be in the basement. God, I actually feel kinda sorry for you, you completely fell for the drifter vagrant lifestyle meme that isn't just on Wizchan, but in other various image boards as well. Dude, you're in too deep now, you made your bed (or lack of) and now you gotta lay in it. I'd wish you luck, but personally, I think you're a cowardly sack of shit who ran away from life. Here's hoping that wolves don't attack you, or you don't get ass raped by a crackhead in the dead of night.

Why so mean to the poor guy? He'll learn trough experience. If he dies he dies, I've slept in way worse conditions and been just fine after. Just don't lose hope or get in the mindset of to hell with it, I'll just go to sleep like when you're outside after half a bottle. As long as your feet are well insulated and your core body temp doesnt get to the point that the body cuts off warming the extremities he'll be fine and I think he learnt from this. Spent a week or so homeless in northern sweden and even with military winter and survival training I did a lot of fuckups at the start that I would come to regret. If things didn't work out, which luckily they did, I could have stayed like that indefintitly. Spent like 2 dollars a day on average (went to stores I found when walking every other day) and bought the cheapest meats like doctor sausage and bread. Did a bit of fishing and foraging too, looking back it was a happy time.

I don't know about getting attacked by muggers. That can happen to anyone, not just the homeless. Stay in a safe area where the crime rates are low?
The police shouldn't bother you as long as you aren't sleeping in public spaces or trespassing private property. In fact, you should probably sleep where nobody can see you for safety reasons.

This, and literally just carry a gun. In most places black powder guns are completely unrestricted and you can have a snubnose revolver or sawed off shotgun legally (at least legal to buy, carry law varies) for about 500 bucks. You probably won't need it but just flashing it to a mugger or firing a shot might make them flee.

>>176417 here. Thanks for support even from that normalfag who said I ran away from life. I legitimately feel as though I've left the tutorial zone and that life is now beginning. I feel just as good now as I did when I was a human housecat collecting doujins and eating prime rib for breakfast, but those days are gone unless I make my way to the land where such a lifestyle is still an option. It's not a LARP because it's not a choice. Homelessness was the only path and I'm simply embracing it as apposed to trying to claw my way back to a life that I can no longer reach.

I've been dicking around my hometown until I get some more experience and "supplies". I bought the best sleeping mat and bag I could find. Both are rated for safety at -30c and I've been comfortable all week. for the past 4 days I've been camping in this abandoned shop or whatever it was, and had my tent set up in the woods beforehand. That was nice but it was in a nature reserve that specified no camping and then surveyors showed up so I skidoodled. It went down to -24c last night and I still got 8 hours of nap in. The bag is big enough to fit me and all my luggage with space left to roll around. After I sleep I just sit up in the massive warm cocoon and dick around on the tablet. I also found in my storage an old supersize down-filled jacket. It is beyond warm but the coldest days are behind us now as we head in to March so I doubt I'll need it. The prospect of sleeping outdoors or in some raccoon's shack has had no emotional impact on me so far. I left Gondola in storage for now. I'm still going to take the Finnish Pedobear along because not only will it be funny but it will also give me a pillow which I kind of need.

doctor update
They tried to operate but they said I was special and therefor a specialist is required. I was prescribed antibiotics and given some dressing until then, I'm not sure if I'm supposed to go back to the ER when the swelling goes down or not.

I contacted some local homeless support line out of curiosity. They said they can't do anything because of the virus despite the sex shop next door remaining open. After a short phone interview they said I was very qualified to receive support when a slot opens up and insisted I call them daily and request their help van (meals-on-wheels / free blankeys) even if I don't need it "so we can get to know eachother more". I missed their calls though because I was so cozy. They'll probably try to hook me up with a job but unless it's nighttime security camera watcher or janitor they can shove that job up their ASS. Sorry Wizards but if the two jobs I actually do want pop up then I'm donating all my supplies and "slaving" away.

It is family day or something so a relative is having me over for the weekend whether they like it or not. I'm using this week's bux payment + credit card to order the final load of shite I don't really need to their house:

-Camera cable I lost
-Extra camera battery
-Maybe a new camera to replace the one that broke (I'm bringing 3 in total for maximum lulz)
-Battery backup pack
-30-day lantern
~Going to upgrade my phone+data plan then sell the new phone, I'll only be paying an extra $10/month. Meant to do this weeks ago but luckily a new ever more zoomy model is out now so it works out. Should rake in about $400
+Guy might buy some red rifle I have for $1,000

With the tent, sleeping bag, sleeping mat, one wool blanket, extra socks, 2 cameras, tablet, battery pack, cleats, tarp, 2l water + some snax, I had one of the large tube side pockets on my bag totally empty. I will keep within it the new lamp, as well as a power bar with all necessary chargings attached. Then when I need to recharge anything I can just Chibi Robo myself to the wall of some McDonalds. With all the stuff listed I was able to walk what Google Maps claims is 50km before calling it a night. Not bad but walking the highways will definitely be different. Went in to Walmart, Dollar Stores, etc with all my bags and stuff and nobody called me out so I'm gaining confidence in the prospect of looking like a fat Happy Mask Salesmen. I've ran in to other hobos carrying their tents and signs too so it's still easy not to draw attention to myself. The one thing holding me back from testing my limits is that because I'm hanging around waiting for mail, I'm still in my family's stomping ground. I'm not prepared to tell them to scaff out of my life until I have everything I need so I've been laying low, going out only at night, like a skunk.

This week I will:
Build a tarp shelter in some pine trees, see how that helps
Maybe start a fire, for true camping feeling

Still expecting to die btw

Safe route: Get that job and save. Move out. Rent a room temporarily in someone elses house. Save more until you get better living conditions.

Danger route: If you go homeless, don't move into the big city that shit is legit dangerous. Be homeless in a somewhat small city with a lot of churches because churches are willing to help and you won't be hassled like you would in the big city.
