So, it all fun and game when you're a 20s something recluse NEET apprentice, even better when you are on NEETbux, anime, games and some side hobbies is what keeping you afloat, but then, you're in your 30s, and still thing are fun, but a little less so, and then again you're late 30 and early 40s, life is gone by, but the question is: what can keep you afloat? Anime, games and your hobbies? But you live a recluse life, travel is rare to you, the few kilometers beoynd your house is what is seems for years, but a normalfag life has another problems too, a sick baby or a bitchy wife, hellish in-laws, life is complicated. How do you keep afloat after you become a older recluse wizard? How do you keep sane?
Many of us are looking for those answers and coming up short. We spent our best years in fictional worlds and now we're hitting the middle of our lives and realizing what a complete waste of time it was. I wish I had a real solution for you but I've yet to find one myself.
I am nearly 40 y/o NEET. Literally never had a job. I just do the same things I've always done, just my genres in media have changed over time and I've added 2 newer relaxing hobbies in recent years. I did travel a few times in my late 20s but honestly, travelling is massively overrated and a complete waste of money so I won't be doing that again.
You're overthinking this. There's plenty of cheap hobbies and interests you can pursue.
>>205264 Either you are pursuing the wrong things in life or the lifestyle isn't right for you. I have the personality of a depressed monk so I never desired much in life. Materially, that is.
It's not easy but if you can make it into a senior community in a sustainable way, it is NEET heaven at an age where it is socially acceptable to be a NEET.
>>205294 yeah they are normies in the sense of following the normal path of life, but they are at the stage of life where normal life converges with what wizneets were doing in our 20s
>>205294 > The only neet heaven is when you're rich or can retire after having worked.
That part is true. And I did say it's not easy. It does take money.
But OP wasn't really talking about the financial aspect of it, but the ennui of what to do with life when your hobbies become meaningless. There is always something to do in a senior community. Life is scheduled for you, like when you were back in college. But like a college club, you don't have to go if you don't want to either.
You don't have to be tremendously rich for it. There are some very comfortable senior houses depending on location as low as $50k. And then you own it for life.
And there are even senior community trailer parks.
Yeah you do need some capital from work or inheritance. But there is a wide variance on how much you have to spend.
I already fear meeting someone I used to know from school or something. The few times it has happened were incredibly awkward. I can't imagine how it will be when I am 40 and someone asks about my life and I am still neet and living with my parents. The shame kind of precludes one of those active wizard lives people are talking about where you still do all your hobbies and stuff. IDK how I would even do hobbies without money for them. I assume what will happen is life will be exactly the same as it has been for the past decade of being neet where each day I get on my computer and fritter away the days clicking the same repetitive mind-numbing content as I watch the world slowly fall apart from my bedroom.
>>205361 I went to a gym and the succubus on the counter used to go to school with me, she recognized my name on the customer list and asked me about my life, it was really awkward especially since I was a huge sperg in school, it was kinda weird how she remembered that name after all these years but I noticed that other people also remember names of the weirdos from school.
I always just lie about my neet life and tell people I work, I do the same with some relatives as well. Just pick a thing you know about in case they ask questions but usually no one really cares about details of your supposed work unless it's something really exciting.
I never submitted to any planned trajectory of my life. The body will grow and decay as it does, but that has little to do with social roles. I saw this from a young age, but sadly most people are locked into this idea of cradle to grave managed society, because they stand to benefit from it, and benefit from the forced infantilization of people. I saw through that from an early age and never wanted that to be me, and so they started the usual infantilization cycle and told me to indulge in stupid shit.
The hedonist utilitarian faggotry is a failed philosophy and during the 20s I was lost because that was the dominant idea among people my age. I watched helpelessly as these fucks ran the country and the world into the ground for stupid bullshit, and these shameless motherfuckers bragged about doing it as long as they had enough sacrifices.
Ultimately, the world and other people to do not conform to this cycle that was created not by our own body and impulse but by thought leaders who wanted to command political subjects. I react to the actual world rather than the bullshit narratives given by the thought leaders, and every time I followed what I knew to be true, the situation worked out better in the end. The only problem is that participation in society requires believing in the Big Lie, or you get punished by human institutions. So, I've learned to see institutions correctly as the chief problem in this society, and spend most of my life criticizing them.
It's tough to find a genuine purpose in life, without knowledge of history, and in a society that forbids us from freedom in a genuine sense. Society never helped me be anything but they were very quick to hurt me if I were ever seen happy or in possession of something the bastards wanted to take. I have asked why there are so many who go along with such a society, but it really is a vocal minority that pushes the rot. Most people have no choice but to go along with it and do what they can to impede it by being lazy. Even if normal people are nasty and cruel, they have enough sense to realize you don't kill the goose if you want more eggs. The people running this show do not think like that, because the more rot and death they produce, the stronger their hand in the institutions and the less the rest of us can do anything good.
For staying sane, I'm a believer in keep it simple, and to recognize for yourself what wants are actually constructive and what goals are attainable and meaningful. The first priority for any human being, and really any life-form, is security of the body and of your ability to act in a hostile world. The usual ways this is attacked is to lie to us about basic physical requirements for life and functioning. I can't control if I enter REM sleep but I've found when I do, I wake up rejuvenated. Most times I sleep, it is dreamless and I wake up groggy and have to drag myself out of bed. The thing about waking up as a good (or bad) dream is that I'm so rested that I don't want to enter the world that will fuck it up.
I'm a writer and "artist" and that I believe is a passion most men should follow to some extent, even if they're bad at writing and no one wants to read their shit. It helps to collect your own ideas about the world and form your own library, because you cannot rely on institutions and the thought leaders to make this for you. It's easier said than done if you are working 80 hours a week and assholes invade your home, or a wife and kids are making you miserable. It's become a running joke to shame men for their "man caves" and encourage infantilization in the man's own space and inside his head, by telling him to indulge in shitty media. If I were in a situation where a part of the house became the "man cave", I'd stock it with a library and and things that I find nourishing for the soul, rather than the dreck they call entertainment. I wouldn't necessarily see it as a "man cave" and would be happy to invite people who aren't going to be jerks, but there are people who can't get what I read and perhaps shouldn't be exposed to it. I wouldn't tell the things I believe in to a child, except in forms I consider appropriate, and I hate children for a lot of reasons so I have no interest in talking to them any more than I have to. succubi and especially wives are difficult because of the hostility demanded in society and the great game people play in sexual politics. I've always been willing to speak to succubi if they're going to speak real and not say the lie version of events, but this means I have few takers. I have found recently that there are more succubi who realize they're doomed and that feminism was a lie.
>>205666 Physically fit sharpshooters trained in large-calibre hunting rifles are in demand all over the world even outside of military application. There are many parts of Canada, Alaska, and Russia where it is illegal to be without a large gun in hand or trained sharpshooter in your party. Nordic countries, Africa, and Australia have similar regions. Those doing arctic expeditions, even if there are no plans to leave the boat, must be trained and equipped for taking down large polar bears and bull moose from significant distance, and also be versed in hunting for food in case of an emergency. SurvivorMan has some arctic episodes where he must have a loaded rifle in his kit to be allowed up there.
Sharpshooting is a great sport to get in to, even if you start with rimfire or airguns. It is very satisfying dialing in a sight then being able to consecutively hit the bullseye.
>>205670 Hunting is a career. The guardsmen who are brought along are paid. Additionally, permanent attendance at a mining camp, rail yard, or airport for the sake of eliminating live obstructions is a stable job.
>>205675 Snipers are just hunters who hunt people (if you can consider communists people). "Sniper" as a term came about to describe hunters tasked with hunting snipes, a particularly difficult to shoot bird.
>>205361 >life will be exactly the same as it has been for the past decade of being neet where each day I get on my computer and fritter away the days clicking the same repetitive mind-numbing content as I watch the world slowly fall apart from my bedroom
This really hit me right in the feels. Exactly how my life has been since October of 2012.
>>205662 >i knew at 15 i would never do anything with my life. you just know as akid. i knew when I was 12 that I was different and i'm gonna live a very lonely life as an adult.
this thought depressed me so much back then. i often wonder, how did my 12 self with no life experience make such an astute observation ?
>>205270 Nothing is a waste of time if you enjoyed it. It was your fault for not moderating yourself and remembering that no matter how shit reality is, you're still stuck in it.
Reducing warp. As long as our minds release new zones, sanity hits in more regularly and you stop worrying about the future and the past, becoming more flexible.
There's nothing to it. This is the endgame right here, right now. You can stop your heart by thought alone once you realize this. This is all there is. Everybody is making shit up as they go along.
Nobody knows how they are going to stay afloat. Being homeless may as well be RNG i've met people who have worked their whole lives and still end up on the streets while a NEET can decide when he's 30 something to start working. Theres been people who were rich one year then poor the next. People who's stable lives were flipped upside down. Thats why you should never judge people for their lives. You are just as vulnerable.
>>205281 >travelling is massively overrated and a complete waste of money
100% this. traveling is only good for normies. why? it gives them more stories or things to talk about with friends. you don't have that motive and it won't fullfill you.
>>209701 >>205281 >traveling meme wrong. your subjective opinion. i'm not a traveler, but i'd like to sometimes go to cool places to watch them if i could. i did so a few times. do not remember ever discussing it with anyone.
Induce autism and or a variant thereof such that you can learn to forever repeat whatever your interests are without ever once experiencing a semblance of exhaustion throughout them.
Fortunately, this is doable without any imbuement of 'drugs' or drastic physiological changes. You must simply and deliberately isolate yourself for a good 1 year and routinely enjoy a solitary activity of your choosing for at least 16 hours everyday.
https://www.intechopen.com/chapters/68487 So called 'high-functioning' autism together with all of its benefits can be induced. You have all won the game with this, wizards.
As a NEET Wiz you need to keep things fresh and try out new stuff so you just don't get bored and kill yourself out of boredom. I'm not talking about bullshit like "travel the world", I'm talking simple stuff, like try a new genre of music or videogame you didn't try before.
Recently I got into jRPGs and we're far from their peak in the 90s, but the catalog of game is huge and there's so many unique stories and mechanics to learn and explore.
Same for music, I'm into prog rock since my teen years but after almost two decades I found about Vaporwave and Synthwave and I want to know about all the artists and the aesthetics.
This can extend to physical or outside hobbies too, like weightlifting, biking, etc. Turns out my city has a huge network of bike lanes, just listening to music or podcasts and biking around is fun as hell and keeps me healthy.
You will never run out of stuff to try out, the mind of a wiz is too comfortable with playing the same games or watching the same movies, but getting through that first barrier is worth it.
>>210081 I feel like you had to be already rich or seriously reckless or very well informed or lucky to get rich off crypto.
I sometimes feel regret but then I realize that I had like $2000 in my bank account and I would have had to spend it all on some novel internet pretend currency and HODL for years to actually earn a life changing amount of money. That's just an unrealistic scenario. Or mine a lot of coins and then somehow forget about them and not cash out once the price hit $100+.
>>205264 I'm nearly 40. It was hard, but I made my peace with the fact that my life will not amount to much, and I've learnt to make do with what little I have. The main things that keep me going and sane are my mother and my hobbies. I make time for my mother every day and I rotate my hobbies to make sure I don't get bored of any of them.
>>205264 I'm going to be real with you: the only reason you're asking these questions is you have too much free time to think. Maybe you think that's a good thing, after-all, plenty of people work all their lives and never have any time for leisure. But too much of anything can be unhealthy. When you're NEETing like this and don't do anything else, of course you're going to spend hours thinking about life and it will only make you feel unhappy. I used to do the same thing. Analyzing and dissecting everything. Always living in the future or the past, but never the present. That's exactly what you don't want to do but often when you look at things like social media you're framing everything in terms of what you don't yet have (future) or thinking about your experiences (past.)
Life is a lot simpler when you have a job though, no troll. When you focus on your work you don't have to constantly rehash your life or question everything. The wagie feels happiness from simply doing his job well - which is an easy enough goal to work towards. After a long day of work you feel satisfied to have done something worthwhile and again - your mind isn't distracted by questions like the OP. You feel tired enough from your work and keep a simple routine that avoids making you overly introspective to the point of depression. In exchange for your time you get financial security which makes life even easier. So there are benefits to being a wagie. I do think it's easier to maintain your mental health when you have a job compared to being alone with your thoughts all day, every day.
>>210821 >After a long day of work you feel satisfied That actually only happens when you like your job and that's somewhat of a miracle, so being a wagie isn't going to feel much happier than NEETing. But you've got it right by saying you need to busy yourself with something to stop those intrusive thoughts gloating over past/future events. Those thoughts are evil and useless when not moderated.
>>210821 He's only partially wrong. What he is actually trying to say is: Your brain is a juiced up calculator that you should use only for solving practical problems instead of wasting your energies on trite "philosophizing". aka Find the easiest route to acquiring the most dopamine and NEETdom, then apply all your faculties to getting there.
Really, the cultural stuff and habits are secondary to the core functions of the body. If your brain isn't decaying, if your body isn't falling apart, you're sane enough. If the brain decay has set in, there isn't any hobby or fix that will undo it, and no amount of social proof will mask the body's deterioration. The habits of someone might lead to the body's degradation, but once it starts, you have bigger problems than a new lifestyle or appearance to others.
Keeping that in mind is how I cope with what has happened to me. That said there is the health of the body and our own connection to material reality, and then there is political sanity which is contingent on getting along with society. Since the present society is clearly insane, we can't speak of political sanity for much. This is the society that normalized Trump - how the fuck can that be sane? The silver lining is that Trump and everything since then got me to ask if I was really the crazy one for "bad ideas". It turns out the ideas I held as a child were correct, and the worst thing that I ever allowed them to do was get in my head and convince me that I was wrong. That is usually the case - young people are not invested in the habitual lying of the human race, and those who are natural liars are selected and promoted, because those are the values human society praises for a lot of reasons. Since we do not live in a society where humans will ever be honest, keeping in mind that humans are liars and their great ambitions are a failure has been very useful for my personal sanity. For getting along with society, the ugly reality is that there is no getting along with the present way of things. I try to get along with whomever I can, even though this strategy does not work in fascist societies like this one. They're idiots for letting this fascist shit happen yet again, but that's the human race. They'll never be different.
>>210891 >If your brain isn't decaying, if your body isn't falling apart, you're sane enough. If the brain decay has set in, there isn't any hobby or fix that will undo it, and no amount of social proof will mask the body's deterioration.
Cognitive decline begins to happen in the late 20's so I'm not sure what you mean by this. Delusion is also the bigger issue than cognitive decline imo and that can happen to anyone at any age and is not related to their physical health.
>>210899 whether trump is bad, or a ruthless means to a good cause, his style and personality, being elected to be the most powerful man in the world, definitely helped make me more nihilistic in my personal life. if that is who the world chose to rule over them, then there is no good and evil for the individual either.
>>210893 You're not locked into inexorable decay that early. You can tell those selected to live do not live by that. Those selected to die are put through routine humiliations, druggings, and managerial torture purely to grind down their resolve, and then they are told this is "natural". Meanwhile comfortable lawyers and bureaucrats are protected from this and continue functioning into their 50s and 60s. The whole thing is designed to emphasize the divide of class and assert that this is "natural". No one can survive being put through the humiliations of the lower classes, and they want to protect that. Meanwhile, if one of these people selected to live are mildly inconvenienced, the shrieking begins and the fury of Hell is brought upon the transgressor - even if the "inconvenience" is purely the contempt the higher class has for us, when the higher class invades our space, our lives, and tells us how to live. It's an insidious strategy to root out anything good in the world.
>>210914 Trump is a show because the people ruling this place want to burn it down and make sure nothing grows here again. Anyone encouraging that is a complete fag and should be exterminated to remove a clear and present danger.
>>210893 Not really true. Different abilities mature at different rates. If you look at nobel prize winners, for example, they tend to be quite older individuals. In terms of neuron development - it is true that most of our neurons are already formed before we're born. But some regions of the brain still undergo neurogenesis and we know that neurons constantly rewire, making increasingly efficient pattern matching machines.
You shouldn't let things like age play a role in you dismissing your intellectual potential. IMO, the biggest disadvantage of being an older person is that you're not foolish enough to think that learning new skills will be easy. Whereas the young novice just continues on. Until they've been doing it for such a long time that it even surprises them.
>>210980 let's dismiss the fact that most nobel prize winners were geniuses at a young age, and the increasing plasticity and neurons at this age makes them acquire knowledge faster and gives them the foundation upon which they can build a theory once they get older and their brains become slower.
No nobel price winner started studying maths at 25, no professional pianist started learning keys at 29.
>>210984 adding to this : I'm not telling wizzies to take this as an excuse to not do anything. Inaction is worse for the brain than anything else. NEET brainrot is a real thing, the board isn't short of those threads.
Sorry if my reply >>210984 might come of as rude, i was kinda in a bad mood when I wrote this.
Anyway wizzies, try to expose your juiced up calculator to new things, that's the only way to keep the brain functionning. I like to be realistic and to not set huge expectations to lessen the dissapointment in case it doesn't work out.
>>210980 It's a scientific fact that cognitive decline begins happening that early. We can measure it. The reason that people often peak later is because knowledge and experience are separate from raw cognitive performance and you can keep increasing those as you age. It only stops being able to compensate for the decline in old age.
>>205270 >>205270 >We spent our best years in fictional worlds and now we're hitting the middle of our lives and realizing what a complete waste of time it was. This just, a fucking direct hit on my face, I couldn't have written better myself. I think soon I will self delete, we are decades away from full integration and I just can't reconciliate with reality, one can never compete with the other, not truly reality can never match fantasy and yet, reality has that quality with fantasy will never have. But I never lived in the real, I don't know how, and now I'm too old to start that, so I just don't know what to do.
>>205264 I am closer to 40 than 30; here is what I found on the other side of the dip described.
The loss of "sensationbux" from things that I used to like was simply the first thing to go in the decay of mind and body. Now that my mind is not so quick, my body less resilient, the baseline has swung back to enjoying the simple pleasures of applied art and craft in the form of hobby and anime - or for that matter classical literature.
I think this is the blessing of dementia and senility - the senses gradually disconnect from "objective" negative stimulation because the senses themselves can't be trusted to the same degree, and the abstract and conceptual regains value - in the same way it did in youth.
In our tens and 15~age years, we were still calibrating and The New Physical and Mental Sensation was fresh and delightful because there was no point of reference or comparison, or alternatively because it really was the best experience we had until that point. When the mind begins to fade it's quite possible - and appears to be happening - that it occurs again. The baseline is fuzzy, the recollection of the before has faded, and the sensation 'feels' new.
Imagine you could experience watching/finishing your favourite anime for the very first time, forever. How wonderful would that be? No memory, no comparison, no *criticism*, simple endless repetition of enjoyment. What if memory editing or simple human decay makes that actually possible?
That's good enough for me; that and I still haven't read everything on project Gutenberg yet.
As a 35 yo wizard who has been a NEET most of his life, but "works" ocasionally. All I can tell you is that being a wageslave won't make you happy either.
When you are a wagie you have to spend most of your time at your job with your normie coworkers. You will be forced to interact most of the day with a bunch of retards, and normies can detect a wizard from miles away. People will know that you're a weirdo and they will treat you as such.
The worst part is that working is pointless for a wizard. Sure you have money to buy video games and eat overpriced goyslop, but eventually that will get old. Hobbies? good luck having enough time and energy to enjoy a hobby.
At the end of the day normies will go back to their homes to have some quality time with their families, while you will go back to your room hating your job and being depressed. You won't care so much about making a lot money, like most normies, but instead you will like to have more free time. And you WILL miss your NEET days like you won't believe.
>>213704 Im about the same age as you and anything fucked up with my body is due to years of alcohol abuse and sedentary living. I started working out seriously about half a year ago and I am already starting to feel like my younger self again even though I have around 60 more pounds I need to lose. Cognitive and physical decline is not normal for a healthy person in their 30s.
>>213714 being a wage slave takes up a lot of time that i would otherwise drink and ruminate. a productive day at work is on average a lot better feeling the the day i usually choose to do when i have a lot of free time. people know im a weirdo and treat me as such, always have but my job doesnt require me to talk much. said maybe 100 words at work to anyone but myself this week.
traveling with the money especially to scenic locations and hikes are worth the money to me.
>>213755 >>213714 Both, unfortunately, correct. Menial waging doesn't leave you the time to ruminate and cry yourself to sleep, but it also is a massive waste of time that you could have spent watching anime. A good video game is the only way I have found so far to keep the ruminations away.
