I'm looking for Youtube channels or just single videos which provide detailed analysis about the story/gameplay/game design/whatever of video games or just interesting theories, facts and other stuff like that. I don't really know how to explain it any better so I'm just gonna link a few examples.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vp4-9G47uF0 (Oblivion analysis)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2X2tiINl-X8 (Nier Automata analysis)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fEj5FsBXFuM (Mass Effect indoctrination theory (there are three parts I believe))

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lk8tsK-FIdE (Pokemon Yellow glitch series)

I also like this guys game design videos
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmY2tPu6TZMqHHNPj2QPwUQ

or pannenkoek2012's SM64 videos.

I just realized I'm being kinda vague here, I'm bascially searching for informative game videos. Any game goes.

Shammy does that kind of thing, too, but it's mostly comedic. There's also smudboy, Jerks Sans Frontieres (for some soulsborne lore), MandaloreGaming, and maybe some more that I can't remember, I dunno.

>Mark Brown
he fakes videogame footage to suit the point he is making. here he does it in an invisible tutorial video.
https://youtu.be/5Y65atFcvT4?t=16m24s

 No.41379

>>41371
Interesting. He raises some fair points against the video, but he misses the mark on some things that the top comment pointed out as well. One being that Mark was comparing that instance of HL2 showing the player how to dissect enemies compared to Dead Space, but according to this guy he acted as if Mark was saying HL2's overall design was superior to that of Dead Space which was never the case then goes on to show "contradictory" footage in Mark's own video of instances where HL2 does the opposite of what Mark's discussing. Which would be valid if Mark was talking about HL2's overall design and not what it did in that particular instance.

He also makes the point that Mark's examples with tooltips are bad, and they are. Then goes on to act as if Mark's entire idea of hamfisted tutorials is inane because of his bad examples, which is ridiculous because games with hamfisted tutorials are a thing, and what's ironic is that there's two examples in his own video. Dead Space beating the player over the head with "Shoot the limbs" is one, and even if they did that because of the game's marketing campaign that doesn't change how it's implemented, and the second of a Dishonored tooltip flat out telling you pacifist = good, killing = bad which he then spends ~2 minutes talking about how this is an alien concept that couldn't be shown to the player (If you play like a murderous psychopath, surprise surprise, you'll get treated like one). That's also not even going into his Assassin's Creed example where previously in the video he makes the point that some games have mechanics that are complex and the play can't figure out themselves (which is true) he then goes to say that Mark's example with AC makes no sense even though it's an example of something simple (Using the left stick to move during climbing, something anyone who's played an ass creed game could figure out without being told).

Overall, decent video held back by trying to be snarky and falling on itself in face of its own critiques.

>A lot of these analysis videos are just people sniffing their own farts and trying to appear intellectual.

Agreed. Most analysis channels are just a person explaining why they really like/dislike a game while bloating their video length with things that could easily be cut out. The ones where the person is giving a game a fair assessment while saying things that justifies the video length are rare.

He makes some decent points and it's not a bad video overall but he starts making social commentary on the pokemon world and it's just dumb. Pokemons like Smash bros, you're not supposed to look deep into it. It's a world made just deep enough for the game and nothing more. When pokemon started trying to tell stories it spoiled the game.

Even though I generally agree with channels like Gamingbrit and Mauler the way they act as if their opinions are so refined and well thought out really puts me off them sometimes. Dialog wheels out the ass in a lot of open world games. You can still do things for people in social situations, but the social aspect is key. Take a game like Mass effect or Skyrim. You're chatting to people to find out what you need to do next. In the man's mind the act of finishing the quest is key. When he opens the chest he gets his reward. In a succubus's mind it's the social aspect is key so she gets a reward getting the quest, a minor reward opening the chest and then a large reward delivering the item back to the NPC.

Grim Beard: https://www.youtube.com/user/GrimbeardDiaries/videos

This guy is alright. He reviews some pretty obscure games, mostly those in the point & click/adventure game genre. He's actually made me aware of some OK games that I otherwise might not have played. Scratches, Alpha Polaris, Morningstar & Stasis being a few quick examples (I'm still working my way through what he's showcased, but I have to be in the right mood for it). His whole editing style/persona is pretty hit & miss, what with being some depressed psychotic crab, or whatever, but the content/substance of what he has to say is usually quite good. I don't like that he's becoming more popular and I wish him extreme unsuccess as far as that's concerned, as petty as it may sound.

RagnarRox: https://www.youtube.com/user/RagnarRoxShow/videos

Another decent channel. I haven't watched much of his newer videos yet, but his older ones are quite good. His "Forgotten Gems" videos are quite interesting & "Monsters of the Week" is fun for what it is. I like his Silent Hill videos the most, especially the one comparing SH2 to Solaris. I've watched his Jacob's Ladder video many times as well.

Mandaloregaming: https://www.youtube.com/user/MandaloreGaming

I'm sure most here have heard of this guy, but I'll post about him anyway I guess. I actually tend to find people like this fatiguing, what with their constant need to be funny & stupid via their editing, but I'll admit he has some interesting videos. I just find his voice to be a bit annoyingly deadpan and smug. Also, maybe it's just me, but I find his style/humor panders to message board culture, albeit in a subtle way, and it just rubs me wrong personally.

Fungo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PVNuEToTaZA

Not much to say about this guy, but his SH2 playthrough with Guy Cihi (the voice of James) was interesting.

Dead Rising analysis: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UkifvKOjs-Q

Just as a bonus I found this random dude's political critique/analysis of Dead Rising 1 to be somewhat interesting, albeit long-winded.

I can't watch other people for long, frankly. Whenever I hear someone speak, whatever it is about, I tend to just get angry. People are so fucking stupid and I can't stand listening to their asinine opinions, even if I agree with them. Eventually I just start imagining me stomping in their face with steel toed hiking boots just so they'll shut the fuck up already. Their shallow humor, their grating voices, their worthless fucking hides. "Look at me and all the bullshit I have to say about nothing. Blah, blah, blah. We're all having fun aren't we?" Well, I'm not, you fucking cocksuckers. I hope you all suffer & rot. Nobody deserves to have a good time and if I could enforce unending misery on all of you YouTube talking head scum fucks I would. Even moreso on all the morons who fawn & laugh over these pituary retards (like Mandalore & all the rest of the same ilk). People who treat channels like Super Best Friends or Red Letter Media as their personal "friendship simulators". That's so laughably pitiful it makes me want to projectile vomit for days on end. Pathetic scummy swamp of a planet. My misanthropy knows no bounds and is just getting worse with age. What I wouldn't give to take off in a shuttle craft from my backyard and nuke it all from orbit before leaving for somewhere else. It's the only way to be sure, after all.

Really liked Grim Beard's Fallout and X Files review, thanks for linking this channel.

On another note, that Ragnar guy calls Parasite Eve, a literal best seller game in a best seller franchise for a best seller console produced by none other than that tiny, unknown studio called Square, a "hidden gem". PE is as "hidden" as Resident Evil is. The term has been rendered completely useless at this point. Might as well start calling any game a hidden gem now.

Anyway, here's my pick for the thread. If you're into obscure games and shitty games, this channel is definitely for you:

 No.44585

Not sure about the figures. You can look those up but both PE and PE2 were massively popular, it's absurd calling those games hidden by any stretch of imagination. The term hidden gem went from defining an underrated, less known title to defining every game some guy found about it last week that's not Minecraft, Mario or Fortnite. I'm guessing it's just something people will write on the title of a video or article to get more clicks.

I have, coincidentally, been watching videos from this guys channel for the entire past week and I think I hate him. All his videos are just chock-full of opinions and common sense criticism with a general theme of snarky and sardonic nonsense. I would rather see him try to make any reasonable criticisms of his 'big 5' favorite MMOs, which he constantly shills, than watch him pick apart some korean trash for the 100th time.

I too want to know what happened to this. I had the Nintendo shop open during the e3 direct on the off chance that they announced that it was available.

 No.53834

Kind of looks like the Pi 4 runs most N64 games at a stable framerate with the exception of Conker's Bad Fur Day which is a Rare game anyway. Nintendo could use the chips in the Pi 4 as a basis for an N64 Classic.

There are many great non-rare titles. Enough to include at least 20 games. I think the real reason this product hasn't materialized is Nintendo has realized they can charge $60 for limited-time-only HD ports.

 No.53835

also nintendo knows precisely how the n64 works and could write a better emulator than those that currently exist

I actually started watching it but realized it was a nintendo channel, so I assume it's a bit biased. The wiiU was pretty much a failure and the wii store is not even online anymore. With the switch and switch lite out I don't see a reason why the wiiU would be beating a brand new console. I would be less skeptical about the switch selling more than the ps5 but the wiiU? Sounds like classic console wars crap.

>wii store is not even online anymore
You can still download purchaced software, so it is online.

Nindy have had pretty horrible support for all network services, starting with the Famicom Network System, which lasted whole three years. Satellaview for SFC was in service for five years.

So in that sense the Wii Store lasted fairly long.

Historically, the support have been completely different in Japan, where Nintendo repaired FDS's for free for 20 years after it's first release.

heroes of the storm is not dead, he really tried to make it seem like a big deal with that video, the thing is the game is just not competitive and never was, it's a casual game, the forced ranked/competitive modes died, but the game is very much alive and people play it for fun as is was clearly designed to be played. It is like the team fortress 2 of moba games

I would've actually had respect for Mass Effect's narrative if the indoctrination thing were canon. That would've made the strawberry flavor of playstyle all the more badass. I don't get why it's not. It fits with the lore perfectly. That's the entire reason as to why the spectre of the first game went insane.

Throughout the series, they constantly push this idea that Reapers slowly indoctrinate anyone in contact with them. Some become babbling lunatics while others, like Saren, are still given a large degree of autonomy because they can better aid the Reapers that way. From what I recall, they never formally explain why Shepard is immune. That largely caused fans to speculate about the trippy endings of the third game and ironically begin to believe that the Renegade ending was the true one because it's the only ending where the Reapers are annihilated, while the other two are about coexisting with the Reapers.
Of course, it was fans just seeing more to the story than there truly was. It wouldn't necessarily have been a shocking twist, but it certainly would've added a lot to the plot that Shepard was being controlled and progressively hallucinating more and more that he/she was successfully saving the galaxy (while actually accomplishing the direct opposite and doing exactly what the Reapers wanted him/her to do).
The endings kinda suck without utilizing that important plot point, but I guess it's less of a letdown if you treat the entire third game as the climax to the series. They tried to append the disappointment with a shittier slideshow than what you'd find on Fallout (which I think are quite good because they vary wildly and thoroughly explore what happens to all the different factions after the game is completed, which is not how it went with Mass Effect 3's newer endings).

 No.59299

I don't know, I just think it would've been poetic that Shepard fights so strongly against the same threat that Saren succumbed to, then potentially also succumbs to that same force. I think it would make a lot of sense, considering that the impetus for Shepard's rise into the Spectres was largely in response to Saren's treasonous actions. Time is a flat circle and all that.

maybe it's those artifact things he interacted with in the first. saren also interacted with them and they both are able to interact with reapers somewhat
