idk how to claim it
i click "claim now" and it tells me to install gog
i already have gog installed, im signed into gog on my browser
i search for witcher in the gog store app, and it isn't free

i think it's only for people that don't already have gog installed, first-installers?

someone should make a program that just claims all these free games for your epic games account. so you dont have to do it yourself. but maybe 10 years in the future epic games store will be cool. i can't be bothered to care about it for now is all

 No.56098

I bet you could make some decent cash making throwaway accounts, redeeming the free games, then selling the accounts once the games are no longer free.

not a bad idea actually

i did that with humble bundle, what was cool about that was you got a stean code. but it turns out everyone else did too

Not the guy you replied to, but it isn't always a moral issue. It sometimes is just easier to pay for software and not have to worry about viruses, getting the right updates, or any other inconvenience associated with pirating.

 No.56164

>>56163
Well in the case of this thread, getting it for free means you have access to those automatic updates and online without needing to pay.

 No.56794

not free but there is a bundle on itch.io for almost 1000 games for $10. that is like one cent per game. it seems the number of games is increasing over time also, 1 hour ago it was at 500 games. bizarre

they are absolute shit now that i look at it. this is insane because most of these probably took a few days of work to create. absolute garbage

what's interesting is $5 million / 2 / 1000 is still like $2500 each creator will be earning. that is ridiculous for this garbage

>tfw playing Thirsty Sword Lesbians and VISIGOTHS vs MALL GOTHS while ww3 nukes drop and my body is near-instantaneously eviscerated
Jokes aside, I do see a few games that are pretty good in there, but it's definitely 95% trash. Getting celeste, baba is you, and superhot for $10 itself is a good deal, the mound of shovelware is probably just for the headline/attention

This is not a free game deal, this is piracy. Probably full of malware.

 No.57934

>Probably full of malware
it's probably fine. i've been using fitgirl repacks for a long time. i always submit the files to virustotal and check, but never have seen anything bad

and it's better than free in my opinion. it costs no money, getting it on steam or something requires running another program simultaneously, and you don't actually own the software you pay for (basically you are just renting it until someone decides to delist the game), so one day in the future you probably won't be able to reinstall it.

 No.57936

>>57934
Yeah, I was gonna try a fitgirl crack awhile back but got cold feet. Although, it seemed like other posts about fitgirl echoed what you said.
I can also vouch for these "services" just giving you a license instead of ownership like with a physical copy of yore. I've been threatened with account closure by multiple licensing platforms, including Steam. None actually followed through and probably won't especially if you never voice disagreement with anything they do, but the terms spell it out plainly that they can close your account for whatever reason they want.

 No.57937

>>57936
from my understanding, fitgirl gets cracks directly from cracker scenes. the people actually doing the cracking are like autistic samurai, they do it entirely for prestige among their cracker peers and for reputation, and so there is low risk among established crackers that they would release something bad. so there is that, plus you can just upload/scan everything yourself to make sure. everytime i do it however, it says the files have already been uploaded and scanned by virustotal so you can be sure if anything bad was found it would be in the comments. another issue particular to fitgirl is copycat sites using a different domain but mirroring the same content, i think the only difference is they replace her donation/crypto links to their own. i've scanned stuff from the copycat sites and didn't see any modifications to the releases but it's best to just avoid them

it's a trick to get you to pay for the expansions

 No.60472

>>60470
That's really always the case. If it's free to download then there's enough money to be made in game with microtransactions and DLCs. No one gives out stuff for solely free there's always a monetary strategy behind it especially when it comes to modern games. The free version always sucks and feels stripped down or it requires you to grind an impossible amount of time to get anywhere.

 No.60473

>>60468
All the expansions cost premium currency. They might bundle some in the free package (I thought the barebones game was already free so I would expect them to), but they definitely won't give you the newest content for free. I think subscription is only $5/mo and you get a small stipend of the currency every month. Another bad thing for F2P is that you have storage caps on all materials. I don't know how harsh they are, but I presume they're very limiting.

Little tip: search for steam on google and click on news, there is always a new about a game being given away for free

A real quick check your c drive if your playing on PC because it says it's 70gb but it's actually closer to 120 I think. So if you have limited space watch out it grows slowly over time.
