>>61436I have MMORPG Stockholm Syndrome and it's my favorite genre. The games themselves generally are not very fun but something about the vast worlds are deeply appealing to me. The mechanics can be fun to learn, too. That being said, they are like an endless treadmill if you don't care about the world and solely seek fun gameplay.
OP I'd say give one a shot. For you I would recommend you stay away from any live official servers and play on private servers as generally they are free from MTX crap. Maybe give Turtle WoW a shot as vanilla WoW is easily the most accessible but not watered-down MMORPGs you can play. Project 1999 EverQuest is a major timesink that is focused around group play and communication, so if you are up to the socialization aspect this could be a good one. The Lord of the Rings Online is not a bad MMORPG but is deeply watered down from what it used to be. It has one of the best game worlds though and has a lot of interesting, if dated systems. There are a lot of interesting games to look into and I could list a lot more, but I will cut it short and say you should at least try one.
And while not necessarily MMORPGs, there are also games like Dungeons & Dragons Online and Guild Wars 1 which I think are more fun gameplay-wise, but there is not much of an open world to explore, and socialization is confined within city hubs and guilds.
