>>62320>childishThat's exactly why they stay popular and sell well. Nintendo knows who they should cater to, and they never forget it. This is a lesson that companies like Marvel failed to learn, which is why they went from being the absolute kings of the children's market with their IPs at one point to not even showing up in the charts anymore, completely obliterated in the publishing business by manga and titles like Dog Man. They're relegated to ever diminishing returns, trying to appeal to ever more bitter, jaded old fucks like myself. Now that they've milked all the good stories with the movies, there's nothing left but to roll off to the side and die.
One of Nintendo's biggest triumphs is knowing with crystal clarity that children are their primary customers, not manchildren. Attach yourself to a single generation, and you're doomed.
>I don't understand how there are adults who genuinely enjoy those games. What's there to understand, really? A game can be simple and have a cutesy exterior while still being fun. Games are all similar at the end of the day, they're all just braindead distraction. Play enough of them, and it doesn't really matter if it's Donkey Kong, where all you do is press A to break a barrel in front of you, or a Paradox game where you have to compare numbers on a spreadsheet. It's just a way to waste hours on this miserable planet. Mario Kart, for example, is a very enjoyable game, and when my sibling comes to visit, we always end up playing it. We pirate all that stuff, of course. There's no way we're actually paying the prices they ask for. That's another advantage of catering to kids. They don't know any better.
