I only care about Mario, Kirby and maybe Animal Crossing. I sold my Switch and all my Switch games because I wasn't playing that much on it anyways. The screen is too tiny and I'm too old and my eyesight is too shitty for it. I also only care about portable mode because playing on my bed feels better than playing on my desk. Besides, I already have a gaming computer and to be honest, the last Animal Crossing sucked so that's 1 franchise out of 3 I don't care about anymore. Nintendo has also been ultra scummy lately with their prices and attacking fan projects and emulation. Honestly fuck Nintendo, they're greedy assholes.

I only pirate Nintendo games at this point.
I doubt it will be hard to emulate switch 2 on a proper gaming pc.
So they can charge whatever, I ain't buying regardless.

>>62316I tried watching the direct yesterday and could not make it past the first 5 mins. All that nintendo shit is so childish to me now, it's just impossble for me to care about it anymore. And I don't understand how there are adults who genuinely enjoy those games other than the ones they grew up with.

>>62320>childishThat's exactly why they stay popular and sell well. Nintendo knows who they should cater to, and they never forget it. This is a lesson that companies like Marvel failed to learn, which is why they went from being the absolute kings of the children's market with their IPs at one point to not even showing up in the charts anymore, completely obliterated in the publishing business by manga and titles like Dog Man. They're relegated to ever diminishing returns, trying to appeal to ever more bitter, jaded old fucks like myself. Now that they've milked all the good stories with the movies, there's nothing left but to roll off to the side and die.
One of Nintendo's biggest triumphs is knowing with crystal clarity that children are their primary customers, not manchildren. Attach yourself to a single generation, and you're doomed.
>I don't understand how there are adults who genuinely enjoy those games. What's there to understand, really? A game can be simple and have a cutesy exterior while still being fun. Games are all similar at the end of the day, they're all just braindead distraction. Play enough of them, and it doesn't really matter if it's Donkey Kong, where all you do is press A to break a barrel in front of you, or a Paradox game where you have to compare numbers on a spreadsheet. It's just a way to waste hours on this miserable planet. Mario Kart, for example, is a very enjoyable game, and when my sibling comes to visit, we always end up playing it. We pirate all that stuff, of course. There's no way we're actually paying the prices they ask for. That's another advantage of catering to kids. They don't know any better.

I have never understood the appeal of handhelds. Even as a child.
Wouldn't you rather game on a non-portable machine at home? Why unnecessarily use hardware that is optimised for portability? Do you actually play games outside on a tiny screen in sunlight?

>>62318I have an old JC Penney Christmas catalog from 1996, which includes a video game section. A new SNES game then was $69.99, which adjusted for inflation was $140.81.

>>62329When I was a child in the 90s I had Gameboys (original, color, etc.) which I mostly used for Pokemon. I did use them when I was out of the house, and I had a few friends so we could use a link cable and battle each other. Also we didn't have a TV in every room, so being able to play games without having to hog the TV all the time was convenient. I did play it on the TV too, though, since you could get an adapter for SNES that would let you play Gameboy games with it. That being said, I wouldn't bother with any handheld systems today.

>supposed $90 physical games?
I sincerely hope not. I don't know if I'm going to bother with the Switch 2. I own the first Switch, and while it does have some great games, I don't play on it all that often. I like Mario, Pokemon, and the occasional Legend of Zelda title, but Nintendo straight up drops the ball when it comes to their various sports titles (like the Mario sports games or the Switch sports) and anything that isn't a Nintendo exclusive is just plain better on any other platform. I do understand why they structure their pricing the way that they do, because for the reason I just explained, their exclusives make up the bulk of their sales. However, I would argue that it's all the more reason why they should put more effort into their sports titles. Even the latest Animal Crossing and Tears of the Kingdom were poorly received by many fans, and I highly doubt that Nintendo can afford to make those kinds of missteps for long, especially if they continue to hike up their prices.
Personally, I never buy anything on release anymore. I always wait to see/read reviews, then wait for a sale (or pirate in some cases, obvioulsy). I'll do the same with the Switch 2, I think I'll give it about a year or so to see if the console and it's titles are actually worth my time at all. Even then, I may hold out even longer to see if the prices drop at any point. Of course with the way Nintendo is going right now, I'm not holding out much hope.

I'll wait to see how the modding scene on the console is. If it can be jailbroken, i'll probably buy one and pirate everything except from the games where the online is a major aspect. After waiting a couple years for the price to go down, of course.
If you're wondering why I can't emulate on a gaming PC, I can't afford one. Besides, building one of those seems like effort and I prefer portability anyway, I like gaming while lying down in my bed
Alot of the franchises I care about have been pretty disappointing recently anyway. Mario has been really hit-or-miss. I didn't like Odyssey and most of the spinoffs were bad, but we did get Wonder and Mario Maker 2. Zelda has become open world slop. I don't even hate BOTW, but i'm not interested until they bring back the old dungeons again. Was echoes of wisdom better in that regard? Also, Pokemon is as good as dead. Legends is fun, but I can play ZA on switch anyway. And they refuse to make a new PMD game that isn't a remake for some reason. Fire Emblem on switch was pretty good, so if they announce one on switch 2, i'll find a way to play it.
Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Banaza actually do look like fun though. Have you seen the World roster? They have the cow from Moo Moo meadows as a playable character, that's amazing. Still not paying £75 for it lololololol ($97 for reference, it's ridiculous. Hopefully the game flops and they learn their lesson)

>>62316I couldn't care less because I emulate 99% of the time nowadays, there are enough retro video games to last me a life time and I can have full console libraries on a small SD card due to how small file sizes used to be compared to now. I'm at least grateful for Nintendo for coming up with the genius concept of a console/handheld hybrid, though that's easy enough to replicate without me getting a Switch 2, if all I want to do is emulate, with a hacked Switch, or something like a tablet with HDMI out, and a telescopic controller attachment for when I want to play on it like a handheld.
It's a comfortable setup, don't even need a tablet, even a smartphone with HDMI output works.
