The point of getting a degree is to show your prospective employer that you can be trained to produce the desired output. It has nothing to do with education. Just think of it as a series of tasks you have to perform to prove you can be trained. Stop trying to think independently. Always approach it from the lens of "what does my professor think is the optimal answer" then you try to produce that ideal answer from the perspective of your professor.

Education, at least in the US is not a game. It is big bucks. You spend a lot of money for a specific purpose. Literally a degree and a GPA to show the employer you can be trained. It's not actually as important that you have the right specialty for many jobs, just that you graduated with a good GPA.

Also let me be clear, this is because in the workplace, you are judged and valued not by your ability to create the output that you personally deem to be the best, but rather the output that your employer deems to be the best. This is literally just training wheels for exactly the one skill you actually need to succeed in the workplace: pleasing your boss. Pleasing your professor is just a rookie mode version of that.

University is adult daycare in the sense that you get a socially accepted 3-4 years to fuck around and do whatever you want before you get thrust into the wage cage. Most degrees are barely a part-time job worth of work, which to a large degree you choose and schedule yourself, and the rest of your time is up to you to fill with whatever you want.

it's more difficult and requires you to be more socially active then is currently normal but there are tons of people who need help with little stuff and they are willing to pay for your help.

you know what it isn't more difficult then though? it is not more difficult then selling your soul doing something evil, which is almost anyone who goes to university. i don't know if it is 60%, 90% or 95% but almost all the university jobs are some bullshit that is either kind of helps everybody but is mostly unnecessary or it just straight up help rich people become richer which is how everything gets fucked up even more.

there are just tons of evil jobs and young people don't know it, they only learn it once they are in them unfortunately. i like to think young people get smarter because of the internet but the internet is getting censored and still tons of young people fall for narratives and don't understand how much of society is just pure expression of unfairness and malevolence.
