it's dead because OF THE SECURITY WARNING/EXPIRED CERTIFICATE THAT APPEARS FORTHWITH WHEN TYPING 'WIZCHAN.ORG' INTO THE ADDRESS BAR. THIS IS KEEPING WIZARDS OUT. FIX THIS.
16821 No.64817
>>64816The bad certificate is not keeping wizards out. It's making it ever so slightly less easy for phoneposting tourists from the third world to eagerly post their crabby whining. I'm a PC user (like real wizards are) are and I wouldn't even known the cert was expired if not for the 4 pixels of red that appear next to the favicon..

Wizchan used to have a lot more censorship, but now it seems that the mods have calmed down a bit, but still the site has no activity.

Someone whose logical capabilities are at that level was never going to contribute meaningfully. It's not a loss.

>>64818It still has censorship, you just don't see it because they are that quick. Also, if you would use a vpn you might chance to see just how many IPs the "mods" have already banned (and also some funny comments that for whatever reason merited the ban).
>>64819Not true. Not everyone is conversant enough with computers to make sense of whether such a warning should be heeded or neglected. Those that choose to flee may well be very smart in other areas that could very well meaningfully contribute to our discussions.

yeah, crabs ruined it. most threads now have crab lingo and discussions that only catch the average crab attention.

True wizards are still posting. Also, wizchan being dead has been a meme since its creation.

I would say it ran its course. IB culture itself is mostly normalized, anyway. From niche to mainstream, from fringe to absorbed. As for wizchan in particular, everything pertaining to wizardry has been discussed to death. There's not a single thread in /wiz/ that I've not read in some shape or form a million times before. /dep/ is dep, there's going to be sad people and they'll vent forever. Again, same old same old. At the end of the day all you have is your hobbies. For years now it's the only board that has anything remotely interesting in it but its biggest weakness is its general premise. I've maintained many hob threads afloat for YEARS, posting basically alone in them. Wizchan is a small community and the chances of having someone to talk about something you like is rather small to begin with, and even if there are people that read comics here for example, it's bound to be a very limited conversation, just you and another guy or two.
I just moved on, really. I only use the internet to keep up with my hobbies and there are a lot of other places better suited to talk about the stuff I like. What's the chance of striking a conversation here about OSR for example. It's going to be you and another user and then it's only going to be you writing to yourself for months and years in a thread. It's quite simply not fun. Now if I go to Discord or Reddit there are communities with literally thousands of people talking about it 24/7. Again, the advantage of those communities is that it's focused on a particular topic, so it will attract people interested in that particular topic. /hob/ is a general board and with wizchan dead it won't attract anyone anymore. So I can visit another social media site where I get to talk to people about the stuff I like or I can post here alone. Not a tough choice to make, even if I have fond memories of Wizchan and how you could sometimes get a conversation going. I like a slow moving board and wouldn't mind a single response per week or something but nowadays you're lucky if you get a response in 6 months, maybe a year, usually never.
Now, I'm sure everything I'm saying is painfully obvious to anyone who once wanted to converse about something here at wizchan. They try it, get a moronic response or none at all and don't bother next time. The internet is a huge place and it's very specialized now. There are niche communities about pretty much anything you want to talk about, and the chances of having an engaging conversation in those places is much higher than here.
There's nothing to be done about it. You can fix the certificate, nobody is going to show up anyways. I would definitely prefer to talk about stuff here than having to make a new account in some other website, but again, there's no good reason to write about anything in wizchan anymore.

16821 No.64848
>>64847It's simply a matter of Wizchan not deleting posts which present opinions and facts that are illegal to read or repeat in Germany. Wizardchan "allows extremism" as the EU puts it, so Germany regards anyone using this website to be an extremist. This image is highly illegal to view, save, and especially post if you live in Germany.
Ironic. Mass ranges have been banned due to child porn spam, and yet the German - who is now legally allowed to view child porn - is the one who is personally affected by the ban.
