World domination with Transv… sorry South African Union, beating the mother country and allying with Kaiserreich.
With HoI2, Arsenal of Democracy and Darkest Hour, it's just typical Greater Finland -scenario, beating the USSR back behind the Urals after it starts the Winter War and then finishing the job with the Third Reich.
Playing with any of the 'great powers' in those three games, it's just too easy when you know how the ai reacts in certain military situations. Usually it's pretty easy with small nations too, at least the WW2 long scenario.

Anyone got any fun RPish ideas for EU4? Sort of thematically appropriate or just interesting goals as different countries. Not world conquest or blobby stuff since that's boring.

Unusual/impractical colonizers; at the Venetian trade node the only new world trade nodes you can steer to Venice are Mexico, Texas and California; could be interesting to just go for those + Australia and Indonesia. Perhaps Venice, Ottomans, Mamluks.

For newbie vic2 players I recommend playing Sweden
Pros:
- 80% literacy from the get go, fast research
- Decent starting technology, corporative industrialism
- Can form Scandinavia and has cores on Finland
- Plenty of opportunities for colonisation worldwide
- Liberal chimpout events early game allow you to pass reforms (helthcare is especially important)
Cons:
- Crappy RGOs
- Low pops
- You have to go toe to toe with Russia if you want to take Finland

>>57303I like the Venice idea
Novgorod is pretty hard but sounds fun
Try playing somewhere you wouldn't normally play like the Great Lakes, Congo or as a native
Or just achievement hunt

>>57848Haven't taken anything from the Ottos yet. I trounced them when Egypt called me into a war but I couldn't add war goals because our side had the status quo war goal. I've been at war with the USA for quite a while, but they're easy enough to kick out when they land. I got Spain in on it to give them pain, but the ai is so dumb they're not attacking this enclave.
Also I think I've figured out how to build more profitable factories, by checking the data in this box (mousing over daily outputs). I suppose I should have built telephone factories as soon as I could cause it seems much more profitable than anything else. I should probably build more factories using coal considering I am exporting so much coal.
I've got 3 oil provinces right now.

>>57851The state of my empire at 1911. I just took Basra from the Ottomans when a crisis over Mosul->Iraq started a great war they will obviously lose.
I have one of the strongest navies, quite a weak army. My object now is to become a great power before the end of the game.
Some countries I have defeated:
Ottomans - Twice, once to no gain just cause they invaded my ally Egypt. Even in this last war their troops were much stronger, I had to attack with numbers
England - Russia defended my coasts well and I occupied their most populous provinces in India. This was a war to take Kashmir from Punjab.
Austria - They defended the Ottomans just now. They also contained me once early in the game
Qinghai - tons of troops
China - a great power, Russia helped
Japan - A great power, they even landed a ton of troops near Karachi. I was at war with them 2 or 3 times, always keeping enough troops near there to defend.

>>57848Oddly AI Ottos tend to conquer only one or two provinces from Egypt at a time instead of taking all the levant in one fell swoop by 1840ish like how they're supposed to. This causes their prestige to stagnate and they then go from GP to secondary power or even a stardard civilized nation in a matter of two or three decades from the start as they can't catch up with the rest of europe.
You got lucky about how Russia is helping you out. From my experience Russia usually tends to ally and sphere the Ottomans. It's pretty much game over if you're trying an expansionist playthrough with balkan countries like Bulgaria, Serbia or Greece.

>>57852I became GP a few months later just by waiting for the great war to finish. Got the free place in the sun CB on USA so I took colonial Hawaii (midway, wake, palmyra). I had no rubber for tanks or planes so I decided to start over. Also look at this ridiculous Colombia.
Posting about my new game (I played a couple times in between) later, Persia again.

>>57951I decided I take a break with a relaxed Tibet game. Pacificist at beginining, no army until recently. I had a nice industry but after getting taken out of England's sphere I can't get anything imported, can't even build any more soldiers or artillery.
Former Chinese substates attacked China, occupied and humiliated Tibet. I then built a nice army, declared independence and have been easily defending against China for about 10 years. I plan on invading Qinghai which has everything my factories need - maybe I should play as them instead.

They should create an HOI4 sim for the Leaders in actual power IRL, and they could open tabs and see how other nations are doing, what their internal faction balances are. Gaming optimizes everything with most efficiency. To the most easy way to quickly and simply display the geopolitics of the world is in a gamer format.

I just can't beat stellaris while playing fanatic xenophobe. It is so much harder than xenophile. Maybe the 2x tradition/tech cost and .5x habitable worlds is making it harder too, IDK, but I like it better that way. I just can't get any subjects. The game comes down to early conquest it seems. Did you come across someone weak you could subjugate in the early game? Congrats, you are guaranteed victory. If you didn't, you will probably lose. I feel cursed. All my neighbors have been hostile, no one wants to do research agreements or defensive pacts, I keep spawning near exterminating hive minds and fallen empires. If I do get a war with someone of comparable strength, by the time I pare them down to conquering size, someone else goes and subjugates them while we're at peace after a war. Federations keep forming and it's incredibly difficult to play by yourself. I'm enjoying the challenge. I'm almost winning this time, I have been fighting a federation basically all game and each time I take a few planets. I got 2nd most pops, but some hivemind next to me is trying to become the crisis and they are OP as fuck so we'll see how this goes .
