i don't remember anyone ever doing a thread about one of these. i've just started riding around on one of those. i don't see them so much anymore but they used to be very popular around the younger guys.

i never bothered to try one of these and turns out i very much enjoy riding around on them. it is the perfect tool to get around a dense city. i can't even handle so much power of mobility. felt very liberating riding around on mine.

many of the roads that have this sign before them, aren't actually dead ends.

they are only dead ends for cars but not for bikes and especially not for pedestrians.

on one of these thangs i can just hop of and become a pedestrian at any moment.

yes, people are jealous when they see it.

to use them one the public roads here like they were a bike, they need a little licenseplate-sticker that can be bought for somewhere between 15€ and 45€ where they sell car insurances, valid for a year in the germany and then they need a new sticker.

but that also means i can drive them on bikeways (which is niiiice) and when there is no bikeway, i can drive them on the regular roads.

I prefer kick scooters.
In fact I am likely to buy a new one with pneumatic wheels ether tonight or tomorrow.
I am emailing back and forth with the company now.
Rode one with 200mm wheels for 10+ years, and before that rode the more standard kiddy scooters.
I have loved kick scootering for most of my life. It's so fun while also being convenient and practical for short distances.

the only reason i even bought one of those is because this thing is powered by the standardized einhell batteries, the same batteries that already power my drill, my angle grinder and my leafblower. is nice to have a system for mobility and tools in one.

i guess not many others thought so because the thing is already no longer sold in most places. i was staring at it creepely from a distance it so hard when it came out but i was too cheap to buy it. it was 1000€. now i found one that was barely used for 450€ including 2 very large batteries and a beefy dual charger so both can be charged at the same time.

i'd never have bought some proprietary crap glued-in battery that i'd have difficulty replacing. also being able to just leave the scooter in the car and merely take the batteries home to charge them and return them without having to haul the scooter back into the 100th floor (in which i live).

leaning into the curves is very enjoyable. if i was younger i'd totally appreciate that these can easily be mastered for mating dance type of behavior. they do make me feel a bit young. i guess it looks slightly out of place to look old but ride around on such a young people device.

>I prefer kick scooters.

interdasting. i rode around on a metal one as a kid too and loved it but i stopped when bullies used it as part of their bullying.

i imagine one to be fun where there are extremely well taken care bearings inside so the momentum doesn't dissipate so easily. i'd want one where i can adjust the height of the standing plattform on a moment to moment basis because when the ground is smooth it is so nice to be near to the ground and have the push off easier.

not sure what pneumatic wheels are.

how do the bad people make it harder? where did they touch you, show me on the doll. you probably don't mean what you say and are just shocked from being touched inappropriately by a grown-up.

there is hardly any interaction with cars if you do it right, well i guess it is especially unproblematic here because there are so many bikeways here. the bikepath is next to the pedestrian walkways, 10 cm higher then the cars. maybe you live someplace where cars, bikes and pedestrians have to share a dirtroad, i guess then it is truly annoying and i hope these jerks get what they deserve for molesting you.

i think the matching outfit looks good with the matching scooter on the tubby. tubby needs some exercise though. that's how i do it. i look good on the thing. i guess you don't know how that is and i should quickly change the subject before embarrassing you.

there is one more amazing thing about these scooters. they really shake the body though. i forgot how important that is. that helps all the fluids in the body circulate a bit easier. people pay lots of money to stand on these vibrating boards, i think where i live is a place where people pay to have themselves shaken by a machine. this is just a free side effect of riding this.

i am beginning to suspect riding on these thangs could be healthy. i think it keeps me active and fills my day with movement.

if i would have had such a thing when i was younger i would have loved it. visiting friends in the neighbordhood would have been so easy.

i don't know about the range yet

when i bought it, it came with two 5,2 Ah batteries. i tested them and they can go for 17 km of range.

i am lucky to already own two 4,0Ah batteries. these are the ones on the picture. i can use these for the scooter as well. i expect them to go for 13km.

that gives me a total range of 30km.

if i notice that 30km is not enough range for me and i wanted to increase the range, i can do that easily.

all i have to do is pay 150€ for two more batteries and suddenly i would no longer have a rangeof 30km; i would have range 47km.

took me 1hour and 40 minutes to empty out the two 5,2Ah batteries, my 4,0Ah batteries probably add 1hour and 20 minutes to this so i am already at roughly 3 hours ability of cruising around. this will be nice to use this when traveling to a city to explore it. i usually did not like to go into cities but with this it seems to be bearable for me.

lucky me, 3 hours of cruising around time is already a big blessing for my life. very much a quality of live improvement it seems at this point.

>>307813
wouldn't it be way cooler if such a device had a way to higher and lower the foot-plattform? that could be operated with the help of the whole handle acting like a lever. tilting it front or back while holding a button could adjust how high the plattform is; that way it could be dialed into different ground contidions. it could be set to low for smooth pavement and set to high for rougher terrain.

Such a feature would add significant mechanical complexity, which would increase weight, R&D cost, overall price, need for repair, and dramatically reduce reliability and durability.

I just don't think it would be a worthwhile feature for a kick scooter.
Maybe for a duel suspension premium e-scooter. But in their case you only need push off at start up so it's less of a meaningful feature.

i see them laying around in the streets but they are hardly used. if i did not detest surveilence technology so much, i would have used one of those a few times to get a feel for it before i paid 450€ for mine but they are expensive and i am poor!

i noticed the way i do it is actually quite physically involved. standing on a plattform and pushing a button and levitate forwards is not all there is to it. there is usually a way to stay in motion at all times.

when there is rough terrain or uphill, i jump of and push to conserve the battery. instead of waiting at a stop light like a car, i shift into pedestrian mode, cross the road by pushing the thing and then once the cars that waited at the stop light are gone i go back on the street and jump back on all elegantly. when there is a straight smooth path with few people around i drive in kind of a snake motion.

it's like going for a run with a robot buddy that lets me push the fast forward button that isn't all that fast but slightly faster then running.

it's wholesome fun and this superficial lower end of the bellcurve nonsense about how it looks bad doesn't apply to me because i look good whatever i am doing.

lol people can't judge the speed of those in traffic yet. they always wait for me to let me pass and then instantly regret waiting once they realize how slow 20km/h is.

>There are a lot of guides online about making an array of these cells and using commonly available power regulator chips to permit safe charging and discharging. You could probably make your own supersized cell and not have to blow so much money on the overhead of buying a tool battery.

i do dream about doing that. i once harvested some 18650 cells from an old laptop battery and these were some phenomenal magical cells. despite being 10 years old they held charge for years while i totally neglecting them and using the laptop 10 years after i bought it they were still as strong as when i first got it. completely defies my understanding; i can't come up with a way how this was possible.

ever since then i am dreaming of doing what you describe though i am waiting on something convenient. ideally something with a transparent casing where all i have to do is pop the cells in and they are already connected.

so far the only device i have found to realize this idea is this beauty: it is a usb-powerbank sold by the company "xtar". it accepts a few different cells and turns them into a powerbank with a display. it shows state of charge and also what the connected devices draw. also useful to just use it as a charger for these cells if they are used for other devices (apparently some electronic cigarette vapemachines use these cells).

so far i don't mind paying for the batteries because this company that makes them has yet to disappoint me. i already have lots of tools and gadgets that run on this battery and i do detect a hint of loyalty towards them in myself.

something fun happened today. on my way home on my third trip i was casually pushing the scooter on the sidewalk because the road was uphill and i like to be nice to the battery and push most of the time when it is uphill.

some gentle fatty saw me just pushing the scooter on the sidewalk, believing i was just a pedestrian. once i made it up the hill i would start to turn around and check left and right to make sure no pedestrians on the sidewalks and no cars on the road were near, i swiftly and suddenly approached the road and i elegantly jumped up the scooter and rode of on the road in one fluid motion from the sidewalk to the road. the fatty did not expect that! my guess is he appreciated this fluid mobility of being a pedestrian one second and then riding down the road and he was raising his arms in celebration and shouted some good faithed comment i couldn't make out. he understood how cool this fluid mobility is.

on the first trip of the day i was wearing some edgy matrix-looking trenchcoat but since it flaps so much in the wind it noticably decreased my range so i probably wont wear it for scootering around.

oh yeah that's quite annoying to ride on with the undersized electric scooter wheels. the only way to make it bit better i have found is just riding a bit slower on it, this however should greatly impact the battery, luckily i just got a fresh second pair of batteries delivered and now my range should be 30km.

While I thought it's possible the business closed but hasn't yet bothered to close the site (since their twatter account is closed) according to the registration they renewed the thing earlier this month.

Many of their forms don't work so I sent them a email directly.
If I don't resive any responce I will assume something went wrong and just go through paypal or my debit card to refund the money.

It doesn't look like a straight up scam. More like their site has been neglected, based on a out of date template, and doesn't actually work anymore.
I just hope the items they say they had for sell are actually for sale, and the site isn't just a snapshot of when it was created.
Otherwise the item I wanted will be much more expensive to acquire with a much higher shipping cost since 3rd party sellers are rare and the people who make it charge over 100 bucks for shipping + vat. Which I don't want to pay.

Funny thing is, on a whim I messed with one of those fortune telling oracles based on dice rolls and asked it something related to the scooter being bought.
Said I should expect great hardship and trouble.
I blew it off but it looks like that silly dice fortune telling program might have gotten this prediction right.

Nothing can ever be easy for me. It's rare I can just enjoy things and not have something bad happen.

Guess the only thing now to do is wait and see if they email me back.
If they don't then so be it. I will deal with it and move on as I always do. Ain't nobody going to help me but me after all.

Sorry for the rant. Just had to vent.

Hopefully your day has less worry then mine.

hmm seems like there is room for a trustworthy seller of these things in your market. i hope you get the thing. i saw someone near where i live riding on a similar looking device.

was riding on the electric scooter today and i saw something i don't think i have ever seen before. it was a bike where someone was standing on. it did not have a saddle to sit on. clearly made for standing. it was similar to those on the picture i attached with the notable difference, that instead of a regular handle, it just had these poles to grab on, so i assume the arms could contribute to the movement, which could be something to strictly outclass all the leg-only mobility devices.

it did not look like the person who was riding it, was doing a good job of it, maybe a beginner, i could tell how the person was timid, stiff and limited; only used like 20% of what is possible. no shifting around of the weight, no springloading, no pendulum movements, no usage of orbits, no full body tension.

the handle looked more like this thing. just two poles. not sure if they were on a twisting axis like a regular bicycle handle. i imagine it is quite the advantage to use the arms for propulsion and have the whole weight on the body available to push down.

i remember thinking that this would be a nightmare to try to get into a car because of the long handles, maybe they are foldable.

makes so much more sense to me then on a bike. also bike seats are so uncomfortable that standing is probably more comfy. i have a small folding bicycle and i put a fat-ass saddle on it, basically a little seat because the saddle my folding bike came with hurts my ass after riding it for as little as 30minutes.

i wonder how much fun it would be to ride those around, they seem like exercise devices for physical rehabilitation but i can't help but think i could become pretty fast on them. i would use my whole body and it imagine the trampoline vibes. maybe they are considerably faster with less effort compared to regular bicycles.

this halfbike seems like it would be a bit more fun to ride around. because of how compact it is, i imagine it is better at maneuvering around traffic, road construction and congestion. probably not as comfortable to stand on. i wish the halfbike and the street strider had a baby i could ride around on.

>I reckon they're awesome too, except in my city they are just as expensive to hire as a share-car

i am wondering if they can keep the prices of these thing so high. where i live there are numerous competing services and they all seem to cost similarly. ~7€ for 30 minutes, ~13€ for an hour.

most of the time the scooters aren't in use though. they just stand by the road, waiting for people. while i was driving in a car the other day i was counting the scooters on the way to my favorite takeout. i counted 70 rentable electric scooters and probably 20 electric bikes and small electric motorcycle-type devices.

for the high availability of these things the prices are too unattractive. even bus is too expensive. the only reason to ride them that i believe makes sense is when you travel around and you want to explore a new city. then paying the 13€ to not exhaust yourself and ride around for an hour is so worth it. for daily use i'd rather pack light and walk.

my area has no real bus service
i see a lot of them by a warehouse nearby
i think a lot of them are opportunity usage
like people maybe are too tired one day,
or theyre running late,
because a lot of the jobs involve walking around all day for hours in the warehouse,
it seems counterintuitive for people to pay quite expensive rates to then ride one home instead of another 30 minutes of walking after 8 hours of walking
but the human value system is different
it is illegal to use a personal scooter though only regulated company ones are available

was trying out these inline skates today. i went inside the decathlon and bothered to put them on and ride around a little among all the normies, parents and children and i had no idea how fun they are. turns out my knowledge i picked up from skating other things transferred over and i instantly knew how to do it. it just all made sense. i remember doing it a few times as a child but i could never feel it as much as i do now. i guess i never got good at it. i could drive forwards and backwards, skate in circles and ride curves slow and gently. this was the most basic, cheapest model they have and they worked so good. i wanna wear a slightly more expensive model once to feel the difference but most likely i am gonna treat myself to such a pair. also wearing slightly more baggy clothes is something i have not done enough lately and having this clunky big shoe with wheels undernath is the perfect excuse to wear baggy pants again.

it's as simple as this: if you know how to make rare movements (preferably those that are difficult, complicated and fast) then the succubi will wanna fuck. they will come way too close and try to make pictures and videos of you and call other succubi so they can stare and scheme against you.

bless you for not understanding how bad things really are, you who use your body as a tripod to park your nervous system in front of screens who you have never had to strategize on how to avoid them. there is a war happening out there that you do not have the slightest idea about and i envy you.

i did a rookie mistake and went skating first and then i went into the aldi to buy a few things to eat, which is the wrong order unfortunately.

is better to go shopping first and skate afterwards because skating feels so good and wakes the body up so much, once i am warm and then go shopping the succubi recognize the superior elegant movements and want to come close and try their luck, which is very annoying and uncomfortable and i almost get startled by it.

>Also, what does this have to do with scooters?

the longer you skate the better you become at it.

you practice movements. the more you skate the more you search for these tiniest of advantages in movements that make your movements faster and more expressive.

a rare skill with surprising consequences and side-effects.

like a speedrunner playing the first level over and over, searching for something closer to perfection. of course he can never reach it but superhuman places are very much reachable. it is a practice of excellence.

imagine this dude climbed up there for the first time and it wasn't all that impressive and quick. you look at him now and imagine how many times he must have done it to do it this good. repetitions that reveal tiny differences. that's the love of movement, that's skating.

never mind the music you fool, when you skate you only listen to songs that are absolute bangers to you. if you are not DJing to yourself via phone while you skate, you are doing it wrong.
